But the "OMG" Oh My Goat Salad is amazing. Perfect proportions of greens, goat cheese, glazed walnuts and cranberries. It's a perfect side dish to accompany any of the other offerings at the Mooring. New owner (Jim) completely cleaned house a few months ago. Fired/ Replaced most staff, managers and even non-essential employees including one of my favorite musicians!! Food and drink didn't get much better and it's still a dirty, cluttered bar without any of the things that made it tolerable. I can understand rebranding, but the things that I loved most about going to this bar was the community feeling and the live music. After new management, The food service improved a bit, but the food, drinks, stayed the same and the atmosphere now sucks. read more

Having just moved roughly 3 minutes away from this establishment my boyfriend and I decided to try their delivery. We have now ordered from here at least 5 times and not once have we been disappointed. My suggestion - don't go plain. The cheese pizza was just alright. The BBQ chicken pizza and wrap were both amazing (special ingredient hint hint BACON ). The pastrami is unreal! Had it both on a sub and a roll - you can lose on this one people. Little hole in the wall place but the food is pretty decent. I got the fish and chips. It was huge. It tasted good but the breading was too thick for my liking and it seemed my piece was way more cooked than my dining companion. Hers looked lighter and the breading didn't look as thick. As a North Weymouth resident we have been going here since they opened and ordered takeout during Covid. However after our last 2 visits we will not be going back. On New Year's Eve the owner left one employee on the bar and tables. We visited at 5pm and she was overwhelmed it was awful. Totally not her fault. Bar tender was a no show. Visit 2 last night (7:30pm) was the total of 30 minutes which I witnessed a customer (in her young 20's the median age of all the customers in the bar was about 40-50 at that time of night) multiple times go to the closet and turn the music up to an obnoxious level where it was all fuss and it was night club music. Each time a staff member would turn it down. The owner talked to her 3 of 4 times about stopping. However it didn't. I asked the owner to turn it down at one point. He told me "you know you are in a bar". Oh yes. A sports bar. Which he said. "No sports are on" however each one of the tvs had some type of sport on it. If it was live music I'd understand. If it was later in the evening I'd understand. We got the check then proceeded to leave. As I was walking out the customer turned the music up again. I asked why she needed to consistently need to do that. She freaked out on me and the owner just told her to stop. I asked him why she was still there she's driving his business out. He should of removed her from the restaurant. Only staff should be touching the music. I know plenty of males that he's removed/banned but because she's a female it's ok? We will not be back to this place until there is new owners. read more

I understand it has recently changed hands, and I can't speak for the previous ownership, but Jim is doing a fantastic job! We had a ladies lunch. Sat at the bar. Lobster fritters and salads. It was expensive but Newport always is. The Mooring is a comfortable restaurant and never disappoints on the food. I have been here a few times over the past 20 years. I'm just now appreciating it for the great mainstay that it is. Looking forward to going again soon. Four stars because of prices. Horrible smell right when you walk in! My bf thought it smelled like bathroom cleaning fluid. I thought it smelled like a rotting dumpster. It smelled baaaad. So I ordered a plain chicken salad sub. It was ok. But my bf ordered a medium well black and blue burger. It came well done. He actually choked on a bite of it and spat it out. The bacon wasn't edible and tasted recooked. This is a restaurant with a social conscience that serves good and affordable food. The macaroni and cheese is amazing as is their side dish of sautéed spinach and garlic. The steak tips are outstanding. Service has always been friendly and welcoming. Owner tries to keep costs affordable. We recently tried their thin crust pizza at a fundraiser for The Weymouth Food Pantry and it was excellent. Restaurant owner has a heart and always does what he can for the local community. Just visited The Mooring for the first time because it was a close place with a great rating on Yelp that had a Reuben (and my mom was craving one)! I wasn't very hungry so I opted to just try their fried pickles, which I try every place they have them, and they were AMAZING! Most restaurants serve you less than ten pickles, or about five if they're spears, and this was a huge basket of fried pickle chips! They came out quickly, were well-seasoned, and had a great dipping sauce with just enough heat! They were fresh and only $6. The Reuben was hot and fresh with a huge piece of corned beef. My mom said it was the best Reuben she's even had! The fries were perfect for steak fry lovers and crunchy fry lovers alike. They were thick, so you still got a nice potato taste but the outside was perfectly crisp. The staff was so nice and and I can't wait to go back again and try more of their food! read more

It's hard to give a review based on one part of an experience. First, I've been a regular customer, not super often, but this is a good go to place for a great pizza or burger. Tonight was my husbands birthday and we went out for dinner before a movie. Food was great. We placed the order with the bar tender Patrice and were served by the kitchen staff. My husband loved his burger and I asked to take home my chicken. Patrice brought out a styrofoam box, dropped it on the table and I wrapped my chicken. While I was getting ready to pay the bill my husband asked Patrice if she had considered taking the plate to the kitchen and boxing it herself rather than have me do it as the table was so small. Her response was a snarky "and just where did you get your food service experience?" before walking off. He doesn't put up with a lot of crap, so walked over to the kitchen to ask for the owners name. She followed and demanded to know what he was doing and why he was talking to the staff. I think it's time Patrice review her own experience in the food service industry. Perhaps a new job in a funeral home where she doesn't have to interact with human beings would be more in keeping with her people skills. Sorry, I'll be speaking with the owner and recommending people not dine while Patrice is there. read more

It was ok, my GF had pizza which she liked, I ordered potatoes skins, they were not hot, and I was very disappointed that it just tasted like potato, Bland, the cheese had no flavor and the bacon ok. My GF and I were disappointed that when we asked for Ice tea, we got bottled tea! I wanted real ice tea, with ice. Not a bottle of it? I should of brought the Ice tea from Duncan donuts! OMG salad! That's their Oh My Goat cheese salad. Oh my goodness,it was filled with goodness, tons of goat cheese, walnuts, and dried cranberries. Chicken fingers were very good, not greasy. The pizza won the Pizza Throw-down challenge at St. Jerome School, a local elementary school. It was good,but not great. I prefer a crispier crust and more sauce. The pizza was warm, it might taste better piping hot. Beer and wine selection just okay. Don't go on karaoke night if you want to hold a conversation. We have been coming here for years and always loved it. We found out there were new owners and it all makes sense now! Our waitress was highly untrained for such an expensive place the waiters and waitresses should come from some experience. I ordered the ahi tuna and it was cooked fully through so I sent it back. Tuna like this should be prepared seared. My husband ate dinner without me which was a little annoying and they brought me out the halibut. It was completely raw inside. So I sent that back and didn't eat any dinner. Pretty sad they still charged us for anything at all after such a terrible experience. We won't be returning. read more

My wife and I went here on a whim. I must say I was very impressed with our meal. I had the North Ender and she had a pizza, and we both the had cocktails. Price was great compared to other places we have frequented. My favorite thing about this place right of the bat, was the "cheers" like atmosphere where you feel very welcome, and everyone really does know your name. It's always tough to go new places, but they have the friendly atmosphere nailed. I had a chance to meet one of the managers " Rob" and was able ask questions about other dishes, that we did not try out. He explained different variations of dishes and also told me about his background, which was very impressive. Then he gave a great recipe for a Chicken Parmesan, which I really appreciated. Definitely will be returning in the near future, with my parents. I wish I could give more stars. read more

Went to mooring yesterday with around 20 family and friends for my daughters 16th Birthday. Owner Jim let us use dining area for a private party area.. All set up nice when we got there. Ordered pizzas and a garden salad off catering menu.. Jim was so nice and just a down to earth guy. Definitely cares about customer service.. Girls behind bar helping with drinks were also awesome and always coming over to check to see if we needed anything never once did anyone have to go asl for anything . .. Everyone enjoyed themselves and were full from the food.. When the check came i couldn't believe what an amazing deal I got. Went here recently with my son for a quick sandwich and sat in the restaurant area with my 3 year old. They didnt have a kids menu BUT they did cater to the kid! My son had so much fun. Went here for lunch today. First time eating there. No bartender, like for 10 minutes. To the point where one of the guys sitting at the bar told us it was self serve with a laugh. "Days of our lives" was on the TV. This is painful. Hen the bartender did arrive she changed the channel and got us a pitcher of beer, it was a great cold pitcher of beer and the glasses were cold. I asked what her favorite thing in the menu was and she literally had no answer. I decide in the pastrami "specialty sandwich". While it may have not been the weakest pastrami sandwich I have ever ate, it was in the bottom of the barrel. There was 4 slices of meat on the sandwich. And no cheese. Bread dominated my lunch.
