Bear with me: Whitestone's Utopia Bagels, the standard of bagel greatness, has had the same bagel makers for the last 30+ years. Those guys are the hall-of-fame of bagel makers. This place has teenagers serving, and probably making, your bagels. That being said, the bagels aren't that bad--big, soft, and fluffy. A little too big and doughy for perfection's standard, but satisfactory. Because I'm cheap, I opted to take 1/4 lb. of lox home as opposed to having it served on the bagel. While the Utopia Bagels' lox is reddish-pink oozing with Omega-3, this lox was thick strips, akin to thick pieces of zucchini skin, cut by a young lady who did her best. If you're craving for a bagel, and you're in the area, this is not bad. It's a solid #3 behind Utopia Bagels and My Three Sons, but better than the Long Isand Bagel Cafe. read more

The bagel was delicious but it was very disorganized when ordering. She took the order, went to make everything and came back a few minutes later for us to pay. At first, we ordered a black and white cookie and they only had red and green. We told her to cancel that part of the order 2 times and the cookie still ended up in the bag. Every single time I come here it's just so amazing. Always a line out the door too. That's when you know that these bagels are quality. I tried the everything bagel with bacon, egg and cheese today. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I feel like this place is overrun with the teenagers that work there, they're always goofing off instead of focusing on the order you JUST gave to them! Because of this, I've had all 3 of the orders I've placed at this place messed up. I asked for a bagel with butter, they asked if I wanted it toasted I said no... they toasted it anyways! Another time I asked for a bagel with cream cheese they gave me a bagel with butter. And lastly I asked for a garlic bagel, they gave me an onion bagel. Overall, I think if they hired more older employees the place would run smoother. But because you've got kids working there, they don't care if things are done correctly or not... so I wouldn't waste my time going there unless you want your food messed up! read more

The only reason I give this place two stars is that this place has the best bagels. The two is because the customer service has a lot to be desired. Regularly there are multiple people working and only one person attends to a customer until the line reaches the door. All of the "young helpers" are always on the phone, have the earbuds in and everyone is walking around. This is the third time it happened, three weeks in a row, this time while waiting for an order. They are "working on orders".... The second to last time it happened there were three girls standing behind the area where the salads and cold cuts are so you can't see what they are "working on" and finally someone walked over when there was 7 people at the door. Especially during times you're not in "peak hours", don't ignore the customers walking in. My family and I have been going here for years since we live in the area which is we are trying to show some sense of loyalty but it's not helping your newer customer pool. read more

If you want to impress your date the morning after, I would recommend visiting HRB. Fresh and doughy bagels in the morning will please even the most critical NYC bagel snub. They got a good variety of bagels, from mini to egg. The spreads were great too. The place is a small local shop that seems to be a line to get their fresh batch every morning. However the line moves fast and the staff is very friendly. The price is very reasonable, unlike some SOHO "artisan" bakery where a bagel costs more than a hour of minimal wage. The only downside is there is no sitting, but you can munch on them in your car ride to start your day. Best bagels in New Hyde Park, hands down. read more

Hand Rolled is by far my favorite bagel place to go to. No other bagel place on Long Island compares to the quality of a Hand Rolled bagel. They never fail to serve up high quality fresh bagels. The turnover here is great so you are guaranteed a fresh bagel every time. If you go here you need to try their homemade cream cheese. They have a number of options to choose from that that make in house which are all great and can be paired with a number of different bagels to make for a great breakfast. In addition to their regular bagels and cream cheese/butter combinations, Hand Rolled also offers some high quality breakfast sandwiches. Their bacon egg and cheese is great with the boars head American cheese and bacon. They also give you a free coffee with the purchase of a breakfast sandwich. I highly recommend Hand Rolled bagels as they are by far the best bagels I have had on Long Island. You just can't beat the quality you are getting at the prices they charge. read more

OK..so maybe we could have given these "bagels" 2 stars because they are huge...but quality is always more important than quantity. My wife and I are bagel lovers. To us, a great NY bagel has an amazing, thick chewy crust and slightly dense and doughy interior developed by boiling it prior to baking. Not sure how these bagels are made but they have none of those wonderful characteristics. Thin crust with a super fluffy, bready interior. Tastes more like roll....not a bagel. I've been coming to this little bagel store for over 25 years. This place has the best bagels on LI! The bagels are extra huge and flavorful and amazing. When you Buy 1dozen you get 3 free and that's awesome too! You can order in advance by texting their designated number so waiting time is limited. Every weekend there is a long line out the door. This alone should tell you something! It's So worth the wait. It surpasses the plain tasteless bagels from everywhere else in Nassau and I've tried many other places around. While all the components were great, I felt that their sandwiches are never consistent in the 4 times I've been here in the last 2 weeks. Maybe because they were training someone new?! Generally I order the same thing so it would be nice to not have half a head of lettuce one day and two pieces the next. Either way, all the ingredients was FRESH and delicious. I'm ashamed. Not of Hand Rolled Bagels, but of me. I grew up in New Hyde Park and never, not once did I step foot inside this place. I passed it countless times and always saw the colorful, bagel-decorated windows, and yet that never got me to swing on by. I thank Yelp (and Chris H.'s ROTD) for giving me the heads up that I should've been here by now! Yesterday morning, with a little extra time on my hands, I drove past my usual Dunkin' stop to finally indulge in a bagel from HRB. I had read and seen pics of lines out the door, but I must've came at that perfect transitional time as there were only a handful of people in front of me with my order taken after only a couple of minutes. The menu hangs above while the bagels are located below to the left. All your classic favs as well as a few unique ones (French toast!?). The size of these doughy delights were no joke. I could've totally gone with a bagel and cream cheese/butter and been satisfied, but something inside of me yelled "EGG SANDWICH" and those words carried from my mouth. Everything bagel with two eggs and add on bacon, cheese, and SPK (salt/pepper/ketchup for those unfamiliar) to round it out. Price-wise, this was a combo that equated to a little more than I might've expected. But honestly, it's probably worthy of paying even more than that! A few minutes passed and my breakfast was ready for consumption. Within those minutes I noticed customers buying bagels by the dozens while others were chatting it up with staff, a sign of regulars returning and good service. I love the local feel, even if I'm the local bozo who hasn't been here until now! I got in my car and started over to Dunkin', (still loyal for my coffee) and once back in the driver's seat I couldn't resist the temptation any longer. I tore the wrapper open to find a huge yet light and fluffy bagel filled with tasty fried egg, meaty bacon, gooey cheese, and just the right amount of SPK. Each bite was better than the next. The name is true to the quality and taste of these beauties as the hand rolled technique made it one of the best bagels I've ever consumed (along with A&S). Overall, I feel like the bagel monkey is off my back as I've finally experienced one of these hand rolled gems. They don't mess around at HRB and it's true by bagel size and taste. Lines may make you weary, but it's a sign that you need to come here. If you haven't? Don't be like me. Do it soon and enjoy your bagel in all it's wonder. Holy smokes these bagels are huge! Hand Rolled Bagels has been recommended to me by a few friends including a Yelp Elite or two, and it took me moving away from the area to actually give it a try. As I am now a 20 minute drive from this place as opposed to 5, I wish I would have tried this place out much sooner! Hand Rolled Bagels is by far the best bagel venue in the area (at least that I've tried). The bagels are fresh (and tremendous) and the options are fantastic! It's not exactly the most beautiful place in the world, but like any NY deli, it's the inside that counts! When my wife and I arrived on a late Sunday morning, the line was practically out the door, but we didn't let that stop us (definitely was a good sign). About 5 minutes later, it was time for us to place our orders. It was tough to decide because of the sheer amount of options available (the seasonal options were particularly enticing), but since this was my first place visiting, I decided on a classic route - cinnamon raisin bagel with regular cream cheese. Meanwhile, my wife decided on an egg poppy onion bagel with veggie cream cheese (total price under $8). When the cashier handed over the bag, I immediately noticed the weight. Just 2 bagels with cream cheese was actually quite heavy! We brought our bagels to the car and opened them up (had to eat in the car because we were en route to a second location). Wow was there a lot of cream cheese on those bagels! Folks, I'm not kidding you, this place's idea of a regular amount of cream cheese is pouring out the entire tub onto the bagel! You definitely get your money's worth, but next time I think I'll ask for a thin layer (the equivalent of normal I'd imagine). Nevertheless, the quality was awesome! The bagels were soft, warm and very fresh, and the taste was excellent! Needless to say, I will definitely be returning again soon. read more

I used to think this place was delicious, but my friend and I just ordered from here. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel with ketchup salt and pepper also toasted, while my friend got an egg and cheese with ketchup on an everything. First of all we didn't get ketchup on either and they weren't toasted just cold bagels. The crazy thing is they weren't even busy for it to be such a mistake. It seems like the owners of this establishment cannot afford to pay for their electric bills. They leave the lights off in the front of the store now. Sometimes, a business is only as good as their employees. I like coming here for bagel and coffee because its only about a 10 minute drive from my home. However, after today's interaction, I am not sure I will come back, regardless of how convenient it was for me. Service is slow because they take your order one at a time. So, your first bagel order, they will grab the bagel, go back into the kitchen, and then come back out for your second bagel order, and so on and so forth. If you have 5 different bagel / sandwich orders, keep in mind you will probably need to tack on an additional 5-10 minutes. Today, I came in to order a bacon, egg and cheese on a toasted everything bagel. After I ordered, I stepped aside because the girl had gone to the back and I wanted to let the next in line to walk up and order too. About 3 minutes later, she came back out and asked if I wanted anything else, so I put in my order of iced coffee. Another 3 mins later, she rang me up and walked away. So I thought, okay, it's not ready, no biggie I will keep waiting. About 5 mins later, another girl told me my sandwich was ready. As I walked over, she wanted to double confirm that it was what I wanted, so I repeated my order to her. Then she said "oh, you didn't want ketchup?" I said "no, I don't want any condiments on mine." So she told me to hold on and went back in to find girl 1. Girl1 came back out with the biggest attitude and told Girl2, "no! this isn't hers! That is hers! This one (supposedly with the condiments) belongs to THAT girl (pointed to another girl sitting)" and she pointed to the bag that was closer to the inside of the counter, which was probably sitting there for like 5 mins and then pushed it to me and said "ma'am, yours has been ready, you just didn't take it!" What I don't understand is if you see my food + drink both sitting there, you- Girl1- as the person that took my order and was helping me, why didn't you say anything if you knew it's been ready? When Girl2 tried to tell me my coffee was ready, I told her I would wait for the sandwich and grab them together. I am going to assume she didn't know my sandwich was ready, because she wasn't the one that took and/or prepared my order, Girl1 was. This is not the first time I've been here. All my other interactions were great. I usually get just 1 or 2 sandwiches and always with coffee. I never had them ring me up until the entire order is ready, and they have always been pleasant, even when they messed up my orders (once or twice). It's not a big deal, we have all been there and made mistakes. You know, I would have been fine with all this, if there was no attitude coming from Girl1. Nothing irks me more than people being unapologetic for their mistakes. And you know what? After I got to work, opened up my sandwich, there is still ketchup in there. The worlds best bagels!! These bagels are one of a kind. The massive giant bagels are always fresh when you walk into the store in the mornings. This place has a nice variety of bagels to pick from. The perfect combo to compliment their home made cream cheese. My favorite speciality cream cheese they have are the cinnamon walnut because every bite is filled with a simple sweetness of cinnamon sugar. The other alternative is the veggie cream cheese. This cream cheese has nice pieces of fresh veggies from carrots to radishes and scallions. Overall the this bagel place is honestly the best spot to get your fresh homemade bagels. However the rating is a star lower due to the prices; these bagels cost almost 1.5 times more than comparable bagels in NYC. However, as there is only a few bagel places on Long Island that are good as NYC quality, this is probably one of my favorites in Long Island. read more

Big, delicious, doughy bagels! I'm visiting my family on LI for the weekend and decided to stop by Hand Rolled Bagels when we were driving through the area. I got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and an iced toasted almond coffee. The bagel was amazing-it was just a tad crispy on the outside without being tough/difficult to bite into and super doughy on the inside (exactly how a bagel should be). Basically, it was the perfect bagel. My iced coffee was also delicious and had a really yummy, authentic almond taste versus an artificial flavor taste. It also wasn't sweetened which I liked. The service was also quick and friendly. There was a line when we got there but it moved fast and the employees taking our order were helpful and efficient. Seating is limited, so it's definitely more of a grab and go type of place. Really sad I don't live in NY anymore because I miss bagels like this! read more

My search for the best bagel on Long Island is finally over. After many disappointing ventures to places that people swear by, I finally got wind of this place from a friend who knows her bagels. We got to try one at her house and I knew that we needed to come and get them for ourselves. This place is BUSY. The store has to be about 1000 square feet and houses at least 10 employees hustling back and forth taking orders, boiling bagels in the back or popping them straight from the oven into the bins for hungry customers to purchase. The bagels here are top notch and on par with some of the stalwarts in the City. Large and fluffy with a subtle sweetness, each bite is just tasty. Spreads are standard and taste good but everyone knows the bagel is where most of the flavor comes from. Service is nice and prices reasonable. In addition, each dozen nets you 3 free ones to boot. There is really not a place on LI that I've found so far that compares. Big thumbs up. read more
