I brought my car in on August 10th for an oil change, tire rotation, and to check a service light on the dash. About an hour later I got a call about it, and was given an outrageous quote to repair the root cause of the light, which turned out to be my alternator. On that call I wasn't given any real explanation or even a breakdown of the cost. That's also where I learned about a diagnostic fee I would be charged even if I went ahead with the repair, something I was never told about upfront. I declined the repair. After that call, I got quotes from a dealership and two other local shops for the same alternator repair. DiMaggio was going to charge me roughly 30 percent more than the dealership and nearly 70 percent more than the other local shops. Nobody called to let me know my car was ready, so I showed up assuming it was done. At pickup, I was charged for services I never approved, with no explanation until I pushed for one. My invoice said I had been given a courtesy vehicle inspection, but I didn't actually receive the results until after I had already complained. When I asked for the manager's contact information in person, I was handed a business card with an incorrect email address on it. I had to track down his correct email myself just to reach him. He did call the following day, and I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 only because of that call, but the conversation mostly defended his team's handling of things rather than offering any real path to fixing it. Because of that, I ended up taking my car to another shop instead. This experience was more than terrible. It didn't make sense on paper or even in person. Avoid this shop if you can.

The full thing took place while I stayed in my car, which is sooo much more convenient than having to sit in bare lobby, especially during COVID. I'm not a car expert, but had asked a few mechanic friends from work before I went and the recommendations were consistent with what they'd said. I had seen this place dozens of times on walks and bike rides - it is just a mile away so I thought I would give them a try. It is a tiny place so it is hard to get into but I was not in a rush - two weeks out was OK. Greg and the guys were really friendly and straightforward in helping to figure out what was wrong. They only fixed what was wrong and did so in a cost effective way. They also discovered a very rusted out part that needed replacing in order to replace a rocker arm (I saw the old one - wow I am lucky it didn't fall apart). They tried getting the part from Nissan but due to pandemic supply chain issues it was not available but they found one from the South on Ebay for a quarter of the price of new. It was in great shape (no salt used down there). I like their initiative in trying Ebay for the part. I brought the car back for this additional work. It was done quickly and for the price quoted. So far so good with both the brake job and the front end work - and I am sure I saved a ton of $ going to these guys. I am glad I found them on Yelp!
