The flavors you can pick are endless and so unique! We bought a couple pints to share amongst the family and were not disappointed. - Banana Cream Pie: this might be my new favorite flavor of ice cream. The thing I was most worried about was an artificial banana flavor (which I hate), but the flavor was so true to the real taste! My parents also loved this because it 'wasn't too sweet'. - Cookie Monster: personally I never get the hype about this flavor but it was good. Seemed just like a regular cookies n cream with blue colored ice cream. Solid pick. - Chocoholic Peanut Butter Ripple: also LOVED this one! The chunks of PB in here were unreal. So so good and would 100% get this one again. Because this location is new in Oxnard, the line was pretty long, but it moved quickly. This was my first and probably only time going to Handel's. I'm quite the ice cream fan, so I was excited to try this. SERVICE: Great service, our ice cream assistant was very nice and despite a big line only waited for less than 5 minutes to order. AMBIANCE: Not much to say, feels very much like an order window spot. There's a few places to sit but nothing much which is totally fine for this type of restaurant style. FOOD: The ice cream is not good. It is very creamy which is great, but the flavors are very lacking. We got the 4 scoop sampler with banana cream pie, pistachio, peppermint (candy cane vibes), and brownie dough. Brownie dough was the best of the 4, but still wasn't a flavorful punch. All other three scoops tasted like vanilla with a *hint* of other flavors. Banana cream pie had marshmallow in it which was odd. Pistachio had zero taste of pistachio. Nothing had rich flavor or depth, it was very mid. Cannot compare to McConnells, Afters, or Coastal Cone. Handels was affordable in comparison, but you are much better off at other ice cream places if you want real flavor. read more

They have so many unique options that it's hard to choose just one... which brings me to my pro tip: order the 4-scoop sampler in a waffle bowl. You get a crunchy, buttery waffle bowl to balance the sweet ice cream. And you can rotate bites of all four flavors (highly recommend Graham Central Station, Spouse Like a House, Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie, and Pistachio). Handles has become my families late night treat of choice. I like banana spits so my favorite has been the Monkey Business negate that's exactly what it tastes like. A blended banana split that easier to eat while drinking. The employees are nice and patient. I asked for a few samples when I came for the first time and they didn't seem to mind at all. I recently visited this store to give it a try. Although the ice creams were decent, the portions were absolutely ridiculous. Why on earth would you put 3 scoops for a small portion? Most of the time LESS IS MORE! Please offer an option with 1 scoop only so we can't pay a bit less and don't waste the food. Also, this location has no indoor seating. Excellent ice cream especially the chocolate. But terrible service. I stood at the ordering window for 15 minutes before they even acknowledged me. I ordered two scoops on a sugar cone and got four scoops on a waffle cone and when I told the server the order was wrong. I was told that's how they make it And I said I ordered a sugar cone not a waffle cone and he said we don't have sugar cones, even though the picture clearly illustrated sugar cones that was hanging in the window. I love ice cream and probably would've been a regular here but with such poor service, I probably will not return. read more

Ice cream great and workers super nice, but something needs to be improved with their "speed"of service. My issue was that it took almost 10 minutes to get our ice cream after ordering at the window. Mind you, we already waited 20 mins in line. We ordered and after about 5 mins of waiting, I poked my head in to see what was taking so long. A new worker asked for my order- a simple 4 scoop sampler. She asked if any of the other 5 workers were making it- NO ONE was making it. Our ticket was still on the wall! I believe online orders were getting priority over ours. Priority should be the people in line- the person who took our order should have made our order right then and there. read more

I placed an order online and when I picked it up it was wrong. They left off, in my opinion, the dog ice cream. Called the store, got no help. I understand it is only 3.50 for the dog ice cream, but that was really important to me. I don't like being charged for things I don't receive. It's going to be a long time before I place another order. To put things in perspective, I ordered on 2/1 and on 2/8. There are other ice cream places around town. You may have lost a customer based on the handling of this issue by your store personnel. read more
