    Their iconic giant cone outside.

Dear Hubby and I were at Ventura Harbor Village last Sunday to get a break from the inland heat, and just to hang out for a while. After a late lunch / early dinner I was in the mood for something sweet. Specifically, I was craving a root beer float. We wandered over to Coastal Cone to see if they could help with that desire. Indeed, yes they could. In the summertime, they are busier than ever, especially on a weekend afternoon. They have a newer system for serving customers, which works pretty well, if the customer pay attention to it. They have you queue up at the door closest to the water. There, a team member directs you or your group to one of three stations inside. Each area has all of the services that you might need, whether it's just getting a cup or cone of ice cream, or ordering fancier dishes like sundaes and much more. I noticed a few reviewers saying that the ice cream is pretty basic. That might or might not be true, but what I see them emphasizing now is that they can make you specialty creations above and beyond what many ice cream shops feature. They bake their waffle cones on premises - and you can enjoy the sweet scent of the results when they come out of the oven. Heavenly! I can't enjoy cow's milk dairy any more, so vegan frozen treats are my jam. They were able to offer me a scooped vegan vanilla ice cream in a cup, with a full bottle of root beer to float away on. It was just what I wanted! A slightly larger cup would have made the experience even better / easier to eat & sip, but it worked out okay. One serving was plenty for DH and I to share. The best part was refilling the cup as we drank the root beer, then every time we added more liquid, the ice cream would foam up. That magical foamy texture is such a taste treat. It was $10, which initially seemed high, but given how long it lasted, and how two of us got to share it, it was a great value. They sure had a lot of people employed behind the counter. Like a lot. The line seemed to move pretty quickly as a result of all that staffing. One last note of pickiness. Perhaps in the off-season the owners might consider doing some deep cleaning and interior refreshing. The floors are particularly beat up and don't have that clean, fresh ice cream parlor look that might be expected. DH and I sat off to the side on the long built-in bench inside the busy shop. It has some shelf space at the back/sides, and those surfaces look like they hadn't been cleaned well in a long time. Just sayin'. While I enjoyed our root beer float, I had time to notice some of the details of the place, and those are my observations.

I got a small Ube shake. Very helpful staff. The view is great. Seems busy but was quick. Tasted very good. Really hits the spot. Small spot but leaves a mark. Worth a try.

If you're visiting Ventura Harbor Village, don't skip a stop at Coastal Cone & Parlor! It's one of the most popular dessert spots in the harbor, and for good reason. I came here for my favorite Pineapple Dole Whip soft serve, and it definitely hit the spot on a warm day. They offer several serving sizes, including Kids, Small, Regular, and a Waffle Cone, so there's an option whether you're looking for a light treat or something more indulgent. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and had such a relaxed, beach-town vibe that made the experience even more enjoyable. Grab your ice cream and take a stroll around Ventura Harbor Village while enjoying the ocean breeze--it's the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Parking is convenient, with plenty of spaces available. On weekends and holidays, parking is just $1 per hour, making it an easy stop while exploring the harbor.

    Classic Yaki

I had to try this ice cream place after a relaxing afternoon at the beach. There were like 40 something flavors of ice cream, but I knew I wanted to try one of their fish cones because they're so cute. Went with the classic yaki (short for taiyaki which are the Japanese fish pastries they use) and it did not disappoint. Great vanilla ice cream. The yaki had more ice cream and chocolate syrup inside. And there were nuts and rolled wafers for the toppings. Delish. Service was fast even with a small line. They have multiple cashiers, which is helpful. There are also a couple of servers who bring out the orders, so it was just super efficient. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area. There are so many different flavor combos to try!

I got the fish with Nutella and match. The match wasn't very green tea flavor which was disappointing. Had to wait a while for them to make the fish. Friend got the cotton candy and liked it. I tried it and it was super sweet. Might try again.

When you walk in, you are greeted right away. The vegan options are good. They are tasty. It's like having soft serve big stick. Awesome flavor profiles. The inside is spacious, and you could enjoy your dessert there or outside with the nice scenic surroundings. The ice cream is good too! Fresh made "fish" was delicious with the cookie monster ice cream. Love it all. Great experience, if you want ice cream, come get some!

After trying the hot fish with the cream from coastal cone... I am obsessed. Everytime I go to the harbor I have to stop and get an order. They are so good and fresh off the press. You almost have to wait a few because they are so hot. The cream on the inside is delicious. The ice cream always looks good as well. But I like these too much to get anything else. This is one of my nieces favorite ice cream shops. They are always busy even on a cold windy day like today. That's how you know it's good!

I like coastal cone for their sorbet. My niece likes them for literally everything else because according to her 'they have so much good stuff'. Service is always friendly and never rushed. They offer samples but I always get one of their sorbets. Ample parking in a large lot (free only on some days and not the weekends), they are facing the harbor and not the parking lot so you have to walk in to see them.

If you believe as I do that ice cream solves everything, or rather great, wholesome ice cream solves everything, this is your place. Cool pier side location with nice lighting, not a lot of seating, but this is meant to grab and enjoy while walking amongst the boats docked there. Employees were kind and patient as my kiddos sampled nearly everything! I had the malted chocolate with a fish waffle cone which they made right then and there and the combo of cold ice cream with just from the oven cone was great!

what a lovely place to grab ice cream and walk alonside the harbor. there are so many flavors offered. the staff were really accommodating -- I wanted the ube-matcha remix soft serve and they ran out but they offered the ube soft serve atop the matcha ice cream, which we got with the fish cone ($9.50). loved the fish cone itself -- it was crispy outside and chewy inside. freshly made, it contrasted well with the ice cream. the ube was strong and the texture was good. the matcha was kind of light in color and more icy than creamy but still tasted of matcha. would visit again!

Coastal Cone is a great spot for ice cream cones and sundaes in the Ventura harbor. I definitely understand its popularity, with only so many super kid free options for dining and snacks in the harbor, it's a treat I'm sure many kids look forward to when they come. I mean who doesn't love a good ice cream shop? Always delicious smells coming from this spot as they bake their famous fish ice cream cones. Cute decor and signage makes this place inviting. Since I'm not a huge sweets fan, you'll never catch me coming here when there is a long line lol. Which sometimes there is. However, I've wondered in a few times off speak hours when there were no lines and I could grab a quick bite. I'm one of those people who really has to be in the mood for ice cream. So I've only been here like 3 times in the last 10 years. Upon my most recent visit last week, I came in on a dreary day and there were almost no customers. Staff were friendly but nothing over the top or memorable. They got me in and out which is A-okay on my books. I opted for the pineapple coconut ice cream and it hit the spot. Delicious. Also I will give them credit for it only being one scoop they did load it pretty big. Mainly the reason for my one star just comes down to pricing. Almost $7 for a one scoop cone. To me it's not worth the price but yes, when having a random craving it's fine. But for a family of 5 that's as much as dining in somewhere for a simple ice cream. Idk how people afford it. All of that to say, coastal cone is great for the community, good ice cream, just a bit too pricey for them to be on my regular rotation.

How much are those zookies like fish pancakes?

Do they have anything thats vegan?

I think they may have some sherbet that is dairy free.

One of the reviews said the shop is very dog friendly. Do they regularly have dogs there then? I want to take my kids there but have one that is terrified of dogs due to a bad incident.

I haven't seen any inside while ordering... but I've seen dogs tied up to the tables or chairs while people are eating. People also walk their dogs on the sidewalk regularly.

The soft serve is the thickest and creamiest, and comes in all shapes including cones, dips, sundaes, malts, blizzards and our favorite, their shakes. I have not had a better strawberry shake anyplace, including expensive ice cream shops. The crinkle fries are always hot and crispy and the food items are what you would expect - fast food but a notch up from the major chains. It's cash only and like most places, prices have increased over the last few years, but we will continue to return whenever we are in the area or passing through.
