Handel's has opened a location here in the Orlando, Florida area (Oviedo, Florida to be exact) and this is great news for all around the great Orlando metropolitan area. I first tried Handel's just outside of Nashville, Tennessee and was pretty impressed, so now that we have a location here, I had to head over and check it out. Handel's has been around since 1945 when Alice Handel opened her first location in Youngstown, Ohio. They now have over one hundred and fifty locations spread out through fifteen states. I pulled into this location and I will say that I can see parking has the potential to be a bit of an issue and while there was a line, the line moved quickly and the service was friendly and professional. The ice cream here is definitely top-notch. They have a great selection of flavors, as well. This is an outdoor place, I did not notice indoor seating, but there were several tables outside. I would definitely recommend this particular location of Handel's and I will give it five stars overall. Go see for yourself. read more

Thank you to the owners of Handel's for fighting to bring this franchise to Orlando. My Mother In Law is from Youngstown, so we ALWAYS stop there when we go to Ohio. Their ice cream is so incredible and they always have great deals going on. My favorite thing to get is the 4 scoops. We always get the black cherry, buckeye, and graham central station and will swap out the 4th for something new. This time we got the ube. The staff is QUICK with a scoop and so kind. We love the modern feel and the outdoor vibes of the space. Perfect for summer. When the owners heard my mother in law was from Youngstown, they came and chatted with us for a bit about how much they loved Handel's as well and how long it took them to get this FL location. This is an outdoor service location with very limited seating under cover. We were excited to try it as it's new to the area. And I can say we laughed pretty hard because the slogan for this ice cream location is "exceptionally large" portion sizes. We got the large 4 1/2 scoop vanilla which was incredibly expensive and equivalent to maybe two scoops from another local area. They probably use 4 1/2 scoops but they're the tiniest scoops in the world. As for the quality of the ice cream, it was meh. It was rich and creamy as are most other ice cream locations around the area. For us personally the price was not worth the flavor or the quantity. In fairness I did not try the milkshakes, which may have a different review. Probably will not return. read more

The service was super fast, and you're able to sample their menu to figure out which icecream youd like, and theyll have it out within a few minutes. The texture of the icecream however wasnt my thing. It was too soft and smooth, and after a few bites of the scoop, the artificial flavors get more prominent, making it hard to eat. read more

Great atmosphere chill vibes, but the ice cream sucked no flavor, just cream and sugar. They could really benefit from boiling that ice cream longer with whatever toppings and mix ins they put in there because it just tastes like sugar and vanilla. I got a small dipped cone with the cookie dough flavor that didn't taste like cookie dough and didn't really have a lot of cookie dough mix in and i also I got a medium mint whatever and it didn't taste like mint or chocolate it tasted like dreams of mint and dreams of chocolate, but pretty cool vibe. Wow! It's so great to witness Handel's finally come to the Orlando area! This location is simple as it is located in a small plaza with about 4 other businesses. If you're not familiar with Handels, there is usually just an ice cream window with a few picnic benches out front. Although it will be rough to have only this setup during the summer months, the nice thing is that this allows for them to offer as many flavors as they do. In spite of the heavy mist in Apopka and miserable chill and wind en route and upon arrival in Oviedo, the unpleasantness of the weather practically vanished with the welcoming manager and other customers wanting to share findings about the ice cream flavors. Shawn Ferguson and his wife Mary manage this new ice cream haven, and he is such a pleasant person to meet that it makes the guests delighted to be there for the ice cream. Growing up in an ice cream family, it was a frequent dessert or bedtime snack. My grandparents who lived on a farm while I was a child made various types of homemade ice creams with available toppings. I've always been partial to dark chocolate and as an adult added coffee to my preferences. Shawn had several suggestions as soon as I shared that tidbit of information. I had high hopes for good matches, and I was not disappointed. Hubby tried my 2 favorites--chocoholic chunk and mudslide (my name) or mudpie (his name), and he selected the same, because he liked both so much, too. As seniors, we've certainly eaten our share of ice cream, establishing our favorites. My theory is it's important to love it or leave it when consuming calories, so I have high standards. There are so many choices of flavors here, along with ways to have it, and the ice cream is made fresh daily, so guests can expect to find some to absolutely love. They don't limit tastes either. There was no seating inside--only busy workers serving up quality ice cream to the walk-up service windows. However, Shawn and his wife Mary were prepared with heaters set up near the seating area. The age range of guests were varied, but it was obvious that those who fared the unusually unpleasant Central Florida weather loved their ice cream and looked forward to many years with their options. Awful wait times, and the way that they make cones is ridiculous. You order a small cone and they shove a small amount in the cone cracking it and then they put two unnecessary small scoops on top so it all falls off as soon as you leave the window. They hide the napkins and ration them out like they're made of solid gold or something. 3rd time coming here 2nd awful experience, never coming back! I wish I could give negative stars. read more

We went on Friday, the day after opening expecting a long wait, but thankfully the line was very short. While we were waiting, four people in front of us took one look at the ice cream and left, mentioning the size was ridiculous. We weren't sure what they were talking about until it was our turn. Just for context, my daughter ordered a small cone, I ordered a medium cone, and my son ordered a large cone. When we got the ice cream we realized that the claims of "not skimping on ice cream" was false. It's true that they'll stack the ice cream up, but what they don't mention is their ice cream scoops are about 1/3 size of the standard ice cream scoopers used by other shops. So, when they stack 3 to 5 ice cream scoops on your cone, they do it loosely to make it appear taller, and the scoops are insanely tiny. They top it off with a melon baller size scoop of ice cream. So, while it appears that they are being generous, they're not. A small, is really a kiddie size anywhere else. The medium and large were the same size, and if you took the amount of ice cream they give you, it's really one scoop of ice cream anywhere else. Five dollars for the tiny amount my daughter received and seven dollars for the "large" just weren't worth it. While we were waiting, we saw a few sundaes come out, the banana split is just a couple small scoops of ice cream with six tiny slices of banana pressed against the sides. My son got the dough flavor and was not a fan. I got the mint chocolate chip and there was the tiniest, absolute tiniest, hint of mint in it. My daughter did say that the chocolate was one of the best chocolate ice creams that she's ever had, so that was a positive. The ice cream is very creamy, looks good, the staff was friendly and the place is clean. I just wouldn't go again. It's not worth the money for the amount they really give you. read more

I visited your new store in Oviedo and asked for a vanilla ice cream cone with sprinkles. While I waited I noticed a huge sign that read " We don't skimp" and then I get my order and it was Skimped on the sprinkles! literally had like 20 sprinkles. I asked for more sprinkles and I got 20 more. I was very disappointed. But for the record an ice cream parlor should never skimp on sprinkles. I miss Mr. Softee! read more
