Fried Flounder filet w/ coleslaw and fries.
    Mary Y.

Great family restaurant. Very nicely decorated and clean. We stopped in late afternoon just before dinner hours and it was filling up just as we were leaving. They have a robust menu with fresh soup and daily specials to suit every diners needs. We ordered the crab cakes and fried flounder filet as our entree and both were very good. Each dinner entree comes with a choice of two sides to choose from for that day. We got Cole slaw and banana pudding for ours that were excellent. The fries were nothing special. Of course we had to order a dessert to take home. The chocolate layer cake was divine. The menu options available, booth seating (large and small) available and efficient friendly service makes this a perfect family restaurant.

Spaghetti with meat sauce - fried squash- These are supposed to be regular portions not kids meals-

I have debated long and hard about leaving this review- however it has happened again- the food is not living up to what I have been used to receiving from here and the serving sizes have decreased significantly but the prices have not!! The photos will have to speak for themselves-

Chicken and Dumplings with a side of mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

Would have loved to give this place a better rating but sadly am not able to. I ordered the homemade chicken and dumplings with a side of mashed potatoes and macaroni. The chicken and dumplings was very good and very authentic but came out lukewarm, as if it had been sitting in a big pot all day long. The mashed potatoes had absolutely no flavor but the brown gravy did give it the life it desperately needed. The macaroni and cheese looked like it was going to be delicious but was honestly just extremely mushy. (My three year old wouldn't touch it and that's saying a lot.) Everyone was very friendly and our waitress was just the sweetest. I think I'll give it one more try, hopefully it'll be a better experience.

A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.

I ordered a…read morelazy nacho salad thinking it would be like a taco salad, well it was canned unseasoned corn, 8 overly fried tortilla chips, dry preshredded cheese, thick cut lettuce but the white parts, and chili which was alright but could have also been from a can. I also ordered a side of green beans, they were also straight from the can. I also received a sweet tea, which was good but also how do you mess that up? And the kicker, $18 for that... should have stayed home. I was really hopeful for this place but after trying it twice and it was just as bland, I unfortunately will not be back.

Today I decided to try a south west chicken burrito that has avocado. To my surprise when I opened…read morethe box, the avocado was visibly dark and black! I called and asked if they check the avocado before putting in the food, and the person that answered said she didn't do it, that's the cooks......there was a weird moment of silence when nothing was said so I said hello? She rudely yelled I AM STILL HERE! It took me by surprise how rude she responded and I asked so is there some type of solution she could offer me because I just felt like how could you even put this in someone's food and feel like it's ok? I understand whoever answered the phone did not assemble the damn burrito but if your going to answer the phone, you are now the face of the establishment and the very very minimum you could have done is offer a simple apology and ask to POLITELY bring it back so the matter could be resolved. Instead she literally started yelling over the phone with a disgusting attitude and getting defensive! At this point I was just shocked at how this person was acting so I hung up, because I felt like if this is how your going to act over the phone, I can only assume you'd be the one to spit in my food. NO THANK YOU! This behavior is not acceptable, and if your going to be in a customer service position, learn how to provide appropriate customer service in general because this could have easily been handled without being rude and nasty! I will never spend my money here again!

The inside feels like (or is?) part counter restaurant and part antiques store. I knew I had come for a hot dog and the folks behind the counter were patient while I decided on a side item, ultimately settling on onion rings. I hung out until they handed me a paper bag with my order. I had parked right out front so I didn't have far to go to enjoy my lunch. Everything (especially the onion rings) was really hot. The footlong was really good. The dog itself might have been fried and it was great to see pretty full coverage across the full dog. Onion rings were pretty greasy, as evidenced by the dark spot soaking through the paper bag. They were tasty though. I did go back in to ask for an extra couple ketchup packets.
