Perfect. That's the word to describe the Handlebar Café. It's nicely situated on the east side of town near Main St. Very cute and friendly café. Loved the local artwork that was on display. The coffee was excellent - definitely our new go-to coffee spot whenever we're in Nantucket. We had seen the owners Jason and Courtney on HGTV's House Hunters. So we introduced ourselves to Jason, who was very nice and shared how they came about starting the Handlebar Café. It was great to see how they've made the café into a central community gathering spot. As we sat outside drinking our coffee, it was great to see the number of locals stopping to grab coffee in the mid afternoon. It's such a nice spot, we had to come back a few more times during our Nantucket stay. Handlebar Café gets an A+ in my book. Funky funny, friendly as hell, stocked with some of the best coffee products on the island and you have what is distinctly "The Handlebar". It's worth going out of your way to visit and that's backed up by their almost unanimous five star rating. It's so easy to hang out in the big room they have and their coffee is out of this world. Why I'll go back: The first truly artisanal coffee place that I've come across downtown...finally! You HAVE to order: Some flavor of latte - they make them with care and high quality ingredients, one at a time. Tony's Tip: It's a relaxing, fairly quiet place so you can comfortably read the paper, catch up on email, or chat with your coffee buddy. My search is over. Love ACK, but besides great sushi (sorry Lola), the only other thing lacking on this island for me has been a true cafe with carefully crafted coffee drinks. Well, good thing we vacationed late this Summer because Handlebar only opened a month ago. Coffee is tasty, blueberry muffin was well made, and the atmosphere is great. The bike theme is well done. The owner, Jason, is extremely accommodating. If you are in the downtown Nantucket area and need a break this is the spot to be. I go here all the time to visit because there's really no other place like Handlebar! The atmosphere is great - there's always good music, and the decorations/art are wonderful. Spent a great few hours at Handlebar this morning. The island is pretty quiet right now, in Mid-May, so the cafe was not too crowded at all. I sat on a very comfy chair and read a book from their shelf of books related to career-building and self-improvement. My iced mocha latte was delicious and kept me feeling energized the whole time I was there. Very cute, comfy, and conducive to productivity. Highly recommend! read more

I've never been on Nantucket before; I'm only here for Thanksgiving with my friend, Sophie, who I met in college. Ever since I met her, she hasn't stopped talking about her favorite coffee place back at home, Handlebar! I had to check it out. I've been on the island for 4 days so far... and I've been to Handlebar 3 times. The first time I ordered the mocha latte. Unfortunately, I had a bad case of the sniffles and could barely taste anything. The other 2 times I visited, I ordered the chai latte which was absolutely delicious. One note: tax is included in all the drinks, so it is quite easy to pay with cash. They also have cute merchandise around the cafe like shirts and mugs. I actually have two stickers on my laptop that I'm writing this review on! The staff is extremely kind, the atmosphere is great, and it is an overall awesome place to hang out, get coffee, or study. Hopefully I'll be able to visit one more time before we go back to college! read more

Such a cute coffee shop with a great seating area in the back. My friend ordered a lavender latte which has a great light lavender flavor (not soapy at all) and it tastes great with a half packet of sugar. I ordered an iced coffee. I would recommend ordering half ice next time as the ice coffee is not strong and slightly watery in flavor but it is really smooth and non acidic or bitter. All of the employees were very nice and there didn't seem to be the urgency to order like there are at other coffee places. A Nantucket native took us to the Handlebar the first day we were here and we returned every day for the next 4! The drip coffee is quite nice and the lattes my wife ordered (decaf w/ almond milk) were excellent. The kids behind the counter were friendly and helpful. There's a nice place to sit inside and an equally nice area outside. We sat outside by the sweater-wearing tree and enjoyed our coffees while becoming acquainted with several local dogs who had brought their owners out for a walk. read more

My friend and I ordered two cold brew coffees. They gave us two iced coffees. Cold brew does not equal ice coffee. We realized that and they replaced them for us. My friend then unintentionally spilled his cold brew. This happens sometimes. The man then wouldn't refill it, citing we were undercharged for our initial order. I tipped 5 bucks to offset their "charity". They refilled only half his coffee and acted as if they had done a great service to us both. You guys are serving coffee at the end of the day... Give me a break. **Amended: after leaving the ownership reached out to us and offered free coffee (I'm a tourist so that's no good) but I appreciated the effort to explain. Finally! I don't know how many years we have been going to nantucket and wondering why the espresso based drinks are terrible (cough the bean, cough). Like other reviewers here, I am a snob and have tried the best all around the world. I'm not saying this is the best in the world, but it was absolutely the best on Nantucket. We tried a chai latte and a vanilla latte (oddly they do not have any sort of signature latte, but they said this was their most popular). We both were very happy, and will certainly return. Popped in here to grab a coffee and a small bite. The interior is small and cozy and the girl who helped me was super friendly! I appreciated that she didn't rush me and answered whatever questions I had since it was my first time there. I got a pumpkin spice almond milk latte and I couldn't help but notice someone with an amazing looking muffin so I got one of those as well. I liked that they offer almond milk as a lot of places don't. The latte was really nice but it could've been stronger and also hotter. I couldn't taste the pumpkin spice syrup that much but overall it was a nice warm drink on a chilly day. The muffin on the other hand was fantastic. This was a gem of a little cafe near the bus terminal in the downtown area. It is slightly hidden but if you find it, you will not be disappointed. Inside there are a handful of tables to relax at if you need to get off your feet. They have your standard caffeine fix and I would highly recommend the espresso as it was strong and flavorful. They had a limited food menu, but it seemed like everything was prepared to order which was nice. It's been years since there was a place for passable coffee and espresso beverages, and this is light years beyond what we used to have! To start with the atmosphere, the small brick walkway and patio in the front is very charming. The knit tree-sweater is cute! Upon walking in, the atmosphere is bright and clean. The bicycles on the walls are so neat! The photographs being shown are great - it's hard to find genuinely original photographs in Nantucket! The order was taken quickly and attentively, and each one was carefully crafted. The drinks were delicious - we had a chai latte, latte and cappuccino - all very good. We sat on the couches towards the front - comfy and in a space of their own. Overall, an enjoyable experience that we can't wait to repeat. Don't wait for any other coffee place to open or get better, this is where to go! read more

After spending most of the day at the Whaling museum I was pretty pooped and needed a little pick me up. A quick Yelp search recommended the Handlebar and I was not disappointed. A cute place, great coffee and an adorable "secret garden" to enjoy my drink. I got a boring Americano so I can't comment on their specialty drinks, but the place was pretty busy so I assume there are meny fans.
