I have had several massages from numerous therapists over the years, and this was among the best. Matt is intuitive and skilled, and it comes through in his attentiveness to client needs. I highly recommend him if you're seeking a massage therapist in the Arvada/Golden area. Matt was thorough in analyzing not only my current health status, but also paid close attention to my overall health and activity history. He used this information to plan my treatment, and even advised that we break up my 90-minute session into two 45 minute sessions so that we can begin to properly address some if my issues. He also recommended (and later emailed references for) some great local yoga studios when I indicated I was in the market. This attention to detail and focus on patient well being is what separates the good from the great. The massage itself was firm and therapeutic. I prefer deep tissue-style massages and Matt definitely delivered. It was precisely what needed, and I've noticed immediate improvements in my comfort and range of motion. Don't get me wrong- there was some discomfort when we got to certain trigger points and I had the urge to curse like a sailor. I've been to Handled With Care twice in the last year for separate issues. The first visit was prompted by occasional numbness in my left hand. I've known Matt socially for a while and asked him if he thought he could be of some help. His office in Arvada is easy to get to and well appointed. Both the front office and exam room are tastefully decorated and comfortably lit. I filled out a short intake form and we spent a few minutes discussing what triggers the condition and how it presents itself. Once I was on the table Matt was very thorough not only in his treatment of the issue, but also in his explanations of the anatomy involved and the techniques he was using. I was surprised to learn that the numbness was a result of tightness near my shoulder blade and had nothing to do with my arm or hand at all. After the session he gave me some advice to prevent future flareups including corrections to my posture while at my desk at work and some stretching exercises. I'm happy to report after six months the numbness hasn't returned. My second visit was a couple of weeks ago. I play competitive volleyball and I've been having a lot of stiffness and pain in my right shoulder. Matt is an experienced volleyball player himself and was very familiar with my complaint. The intake and treatment formats were the same as the first session. I was again pleased with Matt's educational approach to treatment. He again gave some advice at the end of the session about preventative measures and proper stretching. I've played once since the visit and noticed a significant improvement. He advised me I may need subsequent treatment if I continue to play, but so far I'm feeling pretty good. If you're going to visit HWC be prepared for some discomfort on the table. Matt is serious about the THERAPY part of massage therapy. When he finds trigger points he will get after them. I admit I cursed at him a couple of times when he hit particularly sensitive areas. He's good about backing off for a bit, but he'll get back to it if he knows that's the key to treating the problem. I hadn't had much exposure to massage therapy prior to visiting Matt, so I can't draw a comparison to other therapists. I can say without a doubt he conducts himself with superb professionalism and I can't argue with the results. I'd recommend Handled With Care to anyone, and have already done so on a number of occasions. 5 stars and I'll be back whenever I need it! read more

Matt is great about dealing with my spontaneous "fix me" visits. I usually end up contacting him in a panic because something feels "off" + I have a race on the horizon that *must* happen. He's always patient with my chaotic descriptions of my problem areas + has been fantastic about giving me tips for stretching on the trail -- things I can to do help myself before coming back for another visit. It's really easy to get in contact with Matt + he's great about working around your work/life schedule. Personally, as an ultra trail runner, I'd highly recommend hitting up Matt/Handled with Care should you have any issues...or just because you want to give your body a little TLC after a big weekend in the mountains. read more

I have been going to Handled with Care Massage Therapy for almost four years now. I have never had a bad experience. In fact, most of the time I have tremendous results. I honestly believe that if I didn't get massage therapy on a regular basis, I probably would not be able to go to my job every day. It helps me so much. I have also seen several different massage people in the past, and Matt is by far the best I have ever seen. Plus, he keeps up on current techniques and training. He will even send me links to help me if he feels it is relevant. Sometimes if things are really bad, Matt will take the time to schedule me additional time if he has it, or he will squeeze me in with another appointment a few days later. He does his best to get me in quickly, so he can fix any issues. Also, Matt will gage you will your own personal comfort level. I truly like fairly deep work and Matt is able to provide that for me. If you are sitting on the fence about trying massage, I would highly recommend Handled with Care. You will not regret it and you will certainly be happy with the results. Matt is a fantastic massage therapist, really caring about doing what's best for his clients' health issues - starting with listening intently to their needs and addressing their problem areas with his expertise in athletic and pain therapy. I was traveling through Denver for a week, and tension in my neck and shoulders from working at my computer had built up until it was giving me terrible migraines. He fit me in the next day after I called, and treated the problem expertly right at the source of my tension with his knowledge of anatomy and trigger points. He has a very nice and welcoming office; it's clean, quiet, and professionally equipped, with the most comfortable massage table I've ever been on. While the trigger point work was sometimes uncomfortable or even painful (this isn't a relaxation massage, after all!), his work sure did the trick! I was feeling much better by the end of an hour, and my neck mobility increased greatly after just one session. After a second visit, I had improved even more. I only wish I could have stayed around longer to see what a few weeks or months could do! He also showed me anatomically what was happening in my neck and back, recommended some different sleeping positions and pillows to try, and showed me stretches I could do during the day at work. Thank you Matt! A recommendation from a friend provoked me to call with a serious strain prior to a doctors' visit. BINGO! Matt was able to pick up on exactly what needed attention which made a significant reduction in pain. He also provided some suggestions for the recovery I needed. In this process he was also able to pick up on another larger problem that had plagued me for many years. Not realizing the extent of my problem I came back to start work on this during the healing of my stain. The work on my back provided ease of movement and a significant increase in comfort. I found Matt after developing terrible pain in my shoulder upon waking each morning. I had been experiencing a very stiff neck for months too. My doctor had done xrays and sent me to a PT, but nothing was helping. Within only a few sessions Matt totally fixed my shoulder AND my neck regained flexibility beyond what I had had in years. I also have had him work on my hip/lower back. He is amazing at identifying the source of the pain, even when it is referred from another location...he immediately figured out my toe was hurting once because of something tight in my leg.
