Went with some friends on a Saturday evening. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated immediately. I ordered the 3-piece hand roll set (spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab), a toro hand roll, salmon sashimi, and ribeye skewers. Everything tasted good, but the blue crab hand roll was my favorite. I also ordered sake, which paired well with the meal. They also served us a complimentary tamago at the end of our meal. It was delicious and a nice surprise! The hand rolls arrived at a good pace, not too fast or too slow, which gave me plenty of time to enjoy each one while still being able to hold conversations with my friends. So, as promised I came by again for the lunch hour. However, this time was a bust. So the server did not hear me when I said I wanted the chicken karrage. So, she sent over the curry croquettes. I quickly told her that was not what I ordered in a nice way. She said ok, went to the register and placed the order for the karaage. She then proceeds to give the croquettes to the couple next to me for free y'all. The new server came on because it was her shift and handed me my receipt before asking me if I wanted anything else. I noticed that they had taken off the croquettes and so I was like ok, they were comping them. When I got to the counter, she proceeded to add the chicken karaage on to my bill. I enjoyed the salmon roll the most. The seaweed was crispy and decent fish to rice ratio with good quality fish. The rolls weren't special or unique though. Service was good. They bring you the next roll after you finish the roll you have. The same thing with drinks they don't give you any drinks until you finish it halfway through. The atmosphere is bar like style where you could be seated to someone. At the end you pay with the hostess. They also had a speakeasy(kenpai club) on the other side where you can order drinks and do karaoke. I tried multiple different drinks and they even put some of them in a cute glass. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. My favorite 3 roll was the shellfish it was the most filling. I did try the classic 3 roll too. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of them. The seaweed wrapper was crispy and not soggy, the rice warm and soft, and the fish just tasty. After eating at the Heights location a few times I was excited to see that Hando had opened a Spring Branch spot closer to home. The restaurant is in a newly updated strip center on Longpoint nestled alongside other popular neighborhood eateries with plenty of public parking in the attached lot. Hando is a hand roll sushi restaurant that offers bar top seating and service usually makes your orders one at a time as you eat, so you can enjoy each piece of sushi freshly made. They have a couple of very popular happy hours, so be on the lookout for a deal if you can come early or time it right. The menu's main event is hand rolls (duh) along with crudo, skewers, and some small plate offerings. The hand rolls are a good size and you'd be plenty full after maybe 3-4 pieces and an appetizer. They have handroll sets on the menu where they offer a 3 roll, 4 roll, and 5 roll set at fixed prices which makes it easy to navigate different samplings. Service was super friendly and prompt. To start, we got a spiel about the daily specials, but I didn't pay too much attention to this. It would've been more effective to have it on a white board, since I overheard the same speech maybe 4 different times given to the other patrons throughout the course of my meal. For the food: the handrolls were prepared a little too fast for my liking. I had barely finished my 1st roll when the 2nd was already ready, which caused the seaweed to be soggy when I ate it a few minutes later. This happened for the rest of the handrolls that came out - so overall, the timing was really off. The fish inside was decent, but with a tad fishy aroma. The fried oyster handroll was the only one that really stands out among the rest. I also got the ribeye skewers, and they were OK - not too tough to chew, but didn't really taste like it was freshly grilled or cooked. It was only just warm, which signifies to me that they had it out for a little bit before serving it to us. Nothing mind-blowing. Had a gift card for Hando and decided to try it out since I was in the area for their spring branch location. This is my first time going to a hand roll restaurant and trying handrolls. I tried an uni bite, their limited time special rodeo hand roll, and the 3 piece handokase (spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab). The uni bite had a somewhat creamy texture but I didn't think it was anything crazy, probably wouldn't get again. The rodeo handroll was their special pork belly hand roll and it had a nice crisp, it was good but I prob wouldn't get again as I would focus more on the seafood ones. For the handokase, I really liked both the spicy tuna and blue crab ones. The salmon was good but nothing in special. On the HH, we got the Takoyaki and the Squid Karagae (really enjoyed the aioli it came with and ended up dipping my handrolls in it). The karage bento had chicken karage, rice, brussel sprouts, dumplings and a piece of castella cake. The karage had a light and savory batter, the dumplings had a cripsy sear, and the brussel sprouts were super tasty with what tasted like eel sauce and Japanese mayo on top! First time trying Hando today. Intimate and neat spot for dinner with a speakeasy in the back. They have a large menu with a variety of different item. The food came out very fast. I've had a amount of hand rolls however this place would be my least favorite. A fun experience! Went for lunch on a weekday with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was mostly full. When you arrive, plenty of parking in the shopping center. You're directed to use the side door, which I didn't even know was there until I followed the arrows. My friend and I ordered some edamame, salmon kama (salmon cheek), and several hand rolls; the blue crab was one of our favorites! And the quality of all the food was top notch. This was my first trip to Hando and I am a fan of the bar concept; the entire restaurant is one large bar, which makes ordering and the service very seamless. Last time I came here was for Kanpai Club (the speakeasy) in the back but I was finally able to try the restaurant. My friend and I came in during lunch time so we were able to try their lunch course menu which is $21 each. We both got the handroll set that consisted of Spicy Tuna, yellowtail, and salmon (there are two other options that are listed in the menu). I got the curry croquette for the small plate option and my friend got the matchstick salad. As for appetizers (separate from the Prix Fixe Lunch), we ordered the Salmon Kama. Initially we were worried that it wouldn't be enough but we were both quite full by the end so it's definitely worth! Although the matchstick salad is a nice refreshing start to the meal, the curry croquette is delicious- perfectly fried with the savory rich curry sauce that everyone loves. As for the handrolls, they were all delicious- the salmon roll was our favorite! Speaking of salmon, the salmon kama was fantastic too. I will say there are a lot of bones so do be careful if you order this but it's a great appetizer choice if you're craving more fish. Very modern and minimalistic interior. I opted for the 4 piece set but also wanted to add in the toro hand roll. The set comes with spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab, and fried oyster. The set option doesn't allow substitution so you can add in additional hand roll. I have always love the blue crab hand roll but the fried oyster was also really good. After 4 hand rolls, you will start getting full. I like that they give you a good amount of rice per hand roll so it doesn't overshadow the flavor. Service was friendly and quick. The seats are set up as bar style so may not be ideal for a group. They were nice to let us sit at the corner for our group of 6 so we could talk to each other. Came here for happy hour after getting off work. The inside decor is simple yet elegant. Very rectangular shape with a long bar set up in the middle and seating around the outside edge. The staff was very attentive and helpful and always prompted that it was happy hour and last call for happy hour to make sure we got our orders in. We ordered the hand roll sets and the chefs made the hand rolls at the perfect speed and interval. They waited to make your next hand roll when you have finished your current one. We ordered a bottle of the kunizakari nigori sake to split between the 2 of us which was a good amount ~100mL each. And then got the sweet gin music which had Roku gin, lime and habanero garnished with a large shishito pepper in a fun puffer fish mug. Bartender even made the fish dance when he served it to me. The extra mile! For happy hr apps, we ordered the wasabi shumai x2, curry croquette, and Geso karaage. All the apps were a great portion for sharing. The shumai was juicy and well seasoned and the wasabi flavor shined but wasn't too overpowering. The croquettes were a bit heavy for our liking but the katsu breading was on point. The Geso karaage (fried squid) was so flaky and delicious! Easily could have ordered another. For our entrees we both got the 4 piece and 5 piece hand roll set respectively. We both got a spicy tuna hand roll which was SPICY! Way more than the typical spicy tuna which we actually liked. Very bold flavor profile. The yellowtail and salmon hand rolls were our 2nd favorite. The rice held together well for dipping in the soy sauce and the seaweed wrap had the perfect crisp and crumbled perfectly with each bite.
