One of my biggest foodie friends would NOT stop raving about K Tang, so I knew I had to try it! She specifically told me to order the cold noodles, and after one bite I immediately understood the hype. Their cold noodles seriously taste different. It's not your typical naengmyeon, and I loved that they had so many different variations since that's something you don't normally see. The broth was SO flavorful and refreshing, and even my friends who had never had cold noodles before ended up loving them! We also ordered the tofu soup, raw marinated crab, and raw shrimp, and honestly everything we had was so fresh, clean, and incredibly flavorful. The banchan was another standout for me because you could tell everything was really high quality. Just be warned that some of the side dishes are VERY spicy haha. One thing I also appreciated was how quickly all of the food came out despite the restaurant being busy. Overall, I can definitely see why this place gets so much hype. Every dish tasted thoughtfully made, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. If you're coming for the first time, I would 100% recommend trying the cold noodles--they're unlike any I've had before and are absolutely worth ordering! I was seated right away, but it took quite a while before anyone brought us a menu or took our order. After we finally ordered, we waited a long time for our food. When it arrived, we realized we never received any banchan. The owner happened to notice when she brought out one of our dishes and apologized by bringing it out then. On top of that, we still hadn't received the water and alcohol we had requested at the beginning. We had to track down a server ourselves just to get our drinks. There wasn't really an apology--just an "okay" kind of reaction. I understand restaurants get busy, but it wasn't even crowded. After that, no one came back to check on us. When we were finished eating, we had to walk up to the front to pay because no server ever came by. Overall, the service was very slow and disappointing. As for the food, I'd give it about a 5-6/10. It was pretty mediocre--just basic Korean food without much flavor or anything memorable. TL;DR: Get the kimchi pancake, marinated salmon, bulgogi jahpchae, and/or a soup. As a Korean American who grew up in Houston in the 90s, I must admit I tend not to venture much from the OG spots. The original Houston K-town, or K-street along Long Point between Gessner and Blalock (and not the new establishments in Katy off I-10 and 99) has gotten an infusion of new restaurants since the 2010s that have come and gone. K-tang is a newer player on the block that has managed to come onto my radar AND overcome the inertia of going to the same place. More notably, it's become one of my two favorite Korean restaurants overnight. Yeah. I came here 3 times in 5 days, and our parties ordered 12 items off the menu. I need to spotlight this menu that drew me in in the first place. The range is unprecedented. Their namesake highlights tang (pronounced tahng), or soups, but their standouts extend way beyond, and they straddle the hot and cold items better than any other place I've seen in town. Service could be more attentive but is friendly. Appreciated the owner going around and asking how things are. Enough prelude. Here we go, in ascending order to greatness. Ratings take price into consideration. What I didn't try but was enjoyed by others: - Bulgogi Bibimbap. My brother-in-law got this on our second consecutive day here. - Kimchi pork dohlsoht (stone pot). My SiL got this and loved it. Gets that nooroongji (rice that slightly sticks to the bottom) from the hot stone pot. Hard to go wrong with this. - Soondooboo (soft tofu) jjigae (stew) with kimchi and pork. I love that it comes out roaring boiling and stays piping hot - authentic. My BiL loved it so much that he lamented not living closer to K Tang. What I did try myself: - I can't believe they serve munggeh (sea squirt) here across various dishes. It's definitely an expert-level acquired taste, so both my non-Korean husband his brother found it disgusting, and I was not offended in the least. If you grew up eating this and miss it like me, this is a treasure trove. So while I don't recommend the sea squirt dishes to the general public, I so appreciate that this section of the menu caters to the more native Korean audience. Definitely a 5/5 in my book. - Dduhkbokki: I didn't really like the flavor or the rice rice cakes in this (as opp to "rice cakes" made of wheat, which have chewier texture), so I wouldn't get this again. 2/5. - Boodae jjigae, or army soup, originating during the Korean War where SPAM and sausage met kimchi. The broth is nicely done and doesn't taste like ramen soup like it does at some places. I liked it but my husband didn't, so 4/5. - Bibim (mixed) naengmyeon (cold noodles, pronounced nangmyun): Hard to mess up this sauce, but they must make the noodle in house. 4.5/5. Curious about their mool (water) naengmyeon esp in this heat, but it's made with beet juice and without the beef base that I like, so I haven't tried it yet. Edit: Went back for the third time and got the mulhoe (pronounced mool-hweh, meaning water sashimi) with salmon. It was ok (3/5), but had too sweet of a broth; I would stick to the bibim naengmyun. - Dogani (beef knee) tang (soup) feels like a misnomer given this dish has just the tendon and no knee cap served in it, but I do love the stickiness of that soup, which you get only when it's full of collagen. It's also hard to get the flavor and consistency this well, and I didn't taste anything synthetic. Yes, I had it in 90+ degree weather, and yes, I still enjoyed it; I sure as heck wouldn't make it myself in this weather. 4.5/5 - Bulgogi jahpchae: Copious in amount and delicious, especially with that hot plate singe with zero char. 5/5 - Kimchi pancake: Bar none the best I've had. I make a good one too, but this one's on another level. So chunky with potato bits or slices adding to the starch complexity, so that you get both the crispy edges and the comforting bites of pillowy potato. I don't know whether they included samgyeopsal (pork belly) fat into the batter or just cooked the pancake in it but it's a slam dunk with all those onion and kimchi slices on both flavor and texture. 5.5/5! - Marinated raw seafood: crab, abalone, salmon, and shrimp. This is what brought me to the restaurant, and it did not disappoint. They must have a high turnover because dashima (thick seaweed thus far bka by its Japanese name kombu, which is the ingredient of kombucha)-wrapped marinated salmon doesn't keep fresh for very long. But it's also unsurprising that they would have a high turnover, because it's delicious in all its slightly gelatinous texture and sweet soy marinade flavor. I tried the big platter that has it all AND the shrimp rice bowl on separate visits, and decided I would get the salmon on repeat. 6/5! Sang this ode like a canary, and a happy one. Please keep doing well so that I can come back for more and more, K-Tang. Love you already. Plenty of parking. read more

My wife and I were out late and decided we wanted to have Korean food. However, it was quite late and all of the Korean restaurants we normally frequented were already closed. Fortunately, we found the only Korean restaurant in the area that was open - K-Tang! I ordered the Army Stew, my wife ordered the Hot Stone Bibimbap, and we were given an array of sides (barchan) that were all delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful in giving suggestions. I probably wouldn't have ordered the Army Stew, but our waitress said it one of the best things there. It was a good suggestion! If you're in the Sprint Branch area late at night (or in the daytime!) Came here with my wife. I had the sea squirt cold noodles and my wife had the salmon cold noodles. Flavor wise, it was not good, salmon was low quality and fishy, and the sea squirt i had was extremely fishy. Service was slow, never checked up on us to see how the food is, we had two free drinks but we had to remind the servers because they forgot to bring the drinks out. I really like the concept of this restaurant, and had high hopes. They specialize in seafood, and it reminded me a lot of Busan. We got the spicy cold noodle with cuttle fish, and it was different. I never had cold noodles like this before. The broth was a bit bland compared to what I was used to, and because they added crushed ice, the broth watered down causing it to become more bland. The cuttle fish was good though. Not sure if I would order it again, but it was cool to try. I also order the sizzling eel plate, and was disappointed. There was a good amount of eel, but it just tasted okay. However, the rice was dry. Not sure if the sizzling plate caused the rice to be dry, but this has never happened at other restaurants before. However, service and food quality seems to have taken a turn downhill. I came in with a group of 9. Totally understandable that we would have to wait a bit for a table without reservations on a Friday night. Once we were seated, I had to ask for menus. Then it took a while to get food ordered. There were some dishes that tasted great. Here are the good ones: Banchans - great variety, especially love the spicy shishito peppers Spicy stir-fried squid - good amount of squid to veggies ratios Seafood pancake - nice & crispy Spicy beef and seafood stew - comes with glass noodles, hearty Kimchi pork stew - can't go wrong with this dish La Galbi - good portion The meh: The raw soy marinated crabs were pricier $45.95 than everywhere else I've had it but it was also the smallest, 3 really small crabs. The galbi tang had a weird soap after taste and the short ribs did not taste good, almost like the meat was cooked while frozen. It was the one dish that we didn't finish. Braised short ribs galbi-jim - this looked like a soup, was not braised like I'm used to. Had two small chunks of short ribs for $24.95. We kept having to ask for things like bowls, refills on banchans. Maybe I came in an "off" night. I remember my prior experience being really good so will come back and try again. read more

Wow!! One of the best Korean spots in town. They have a wide variety of tasty food options from raw marinated crab to flavorful soups and appetizers. I was very impressed by the quality of their food options. On this visit, I tried the seafood pancake, raw marinated crab, and army stew. K tang is a place that I have been wanting to try for awhile. I came for dinner in a weekday and it was fairly empty inside. There's plenty of parking available as well. Their menu seemed very unique, they seem to specialize in cold noodles. Unfortunately, it's winter right now and I wasn't feeling like ordering cold noodles. We ended up ordering a soy salmon and soy shrimp rice bowl and the seafood soft tofu soup. They bring out a set of banchan after you order. I think they change up the banchan that they serve daily because one of my friends came here yesterday and they said that the banchan was different. The banchan they had was very interesting. It included sausage, pancake, radishes, and acorn jelly. I was surprised that there was no kimchi. The first dish that came out was the soft tofu soup. It was sizzling hot and you can taste the strong seafood flavor. I'd say it's definitely my favorite soondubu that I've tried in Houston so far. The slices of salmon were do big and thick. It's basically a sashimi rice bowl. The soy sauce flavor was pretty subtle and not too overpowering. Overall pretty satisfied with this restaurant but I would recommend the soondubu over the soy rice bowls read more

One night, my girlfriend and I were hanging out when one of the workers offered us a sake bomb on the house. They treated us like friends, not just customers, which is rare these days. Went for lunch on a Monday afternoon. You know a place is authentic when all the customers are Korean. Ordered the spicy cold noodles with snapper, the galbijjim, and the yukdaejang. They had a special senior citizen's happy hour special, so ended up getting an extra yukdaejang for free. In total, was about $70+ tip with lots of leftovers. The galbijjim was nice and sweet, with well-braised meat that falls off the bone with ease. It's a smaller portion but filling overall. The spicy cold noodles were refreshing and icy. I wish they had an option for the sashimi style cold noodles but not spicy! Finally, the yukdaejang was warm, spicy, and flavorful. It came with a nice sticky rice. With a cold front hitting Houston, we were craving something warm and comforting specifically Korean noodle soup since we are already in the Long Point area. I briefly considered the H-Mart food court, but then Yelp brought us to K-Tang (tang meaning soup in Korean), which sounded perfect for what we wanted. When we walked in, there was only one other table occupied, so we seated ourselves. Several TVs were on, adding a casual atmosphere. We ordered the galbi jjim (braised short rib) and the ox bone soup. They served hot barley tea right away, which was perfect for the chilly weather. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. The ox bone soup was mild and comforting--you season it yourself with the salt and generous amount of green onions provided. The banchan selection was on the simpler side: kimchi, cucumber, fish cake, kelp/seaweed, macaroni salad, and daikon. I wish they offered something extra like anchovies or bean sprouts, but it was fine. They also had a salad, which we didn't touch. I enjoyed my ox bone soup quite a bit. The galbi jjim was tender, though a little sweeter than we personally prefer. We happened to be there during the World Cup draw, so we stayed for over an hour watching the groups being announced. Even after we finished eating, they didn't rush us, which I appreciated. Toward the end, our waitress offered complimentary coffee even though we didn't take it. I briefly spoke with the owner, I assume he is the owner, and that their specialty is cold noodles, On a 40-degree day, I wasn't tempted by cold noodles, but maybe next time when it's warmer. K-Tang is a Korean restaurant located in Spring Branch right across the Hmart on Blalock. Sometimes when I make a grocery stop at Hmart, I will swing by and grab a quick meal. I have gone to K-Tang quite a few times and have tried a variety of their dishes. My favorite is their specialty spicy cold noodle dishes. I absolutely love the spicy cold noodles with sea squirt, cuttlefish, or salmon. I have tried each variety and like them all equally, and I choose the protein depending on my mood. Asides from their cold noodles, I also have had their spicy chicken dakgalbi, which is very spicy They have a variety of side dishes; some change but some stay the same. The kimchi, fish cakes, and spicy, pickled radish are always present, and the other half changes up. Staff is friendly, and service is fast. There is also plenty of parking. Legit good food. Not sure why it took me so long to try this place. Maybe because it's not a "pocha" or as hyped up by influencers as the other spots, but I regret it because the food are amazing. I'm so thrilled to have a place that sells soy marinated salmon, shrimp, and crab, AND close at 2am. Perfect bar vibes when you just want to sit and chill with friends without the typical greasy bar food. I am a huge fan of raw marinated stuff and these were bomb. A tad salty so maybe better with rice. I'm really appreciative of the fact that they're one of the few restaurants that serve these dishes in Houston without charging an arm and leg for it. Sushi was also on point - fresh and generous portions. My friend ordered the bulgogi which I typically do not like (too sweet, too American) but these were the best bulgogi I've had in a while. The beef sliced were thick with a nice crunch, and not too sweet. Banchans could use some work, like the other reviews mention. The Spicy Cold Noodles was indeed full of flavor and undeniably eye catching with its vibrant colors. While tasty, I felt like it was missing a bit of substance and the lettuce as filler was excessive for me. I also tried Kimchi Fried Rice, LA Galbi, and Seafood Pancake. While the hot food items tasted fine, they just felt a little underwhelming and didn't quite live up to the standard set by other restaurants on Long Point. The food quality here is so high. You can tell they actually care about the quality of the ingredients and food here, and you can hear the ahjummas in the back cooking it up and taking orders. The seafood pancake was the best I've had in Houston. Big pieces of squid in there, and their spicy sauce added a lot of great flavor over just regular soy sauce (which our server was happy to pack up separately for us). The cuttlefish naengmyeon was a unique item, haven't seen these types of naengmyeon at other restaurants. It was definitely aesthetic and the fish was good, but it was too tomato-y with no other flavors for my taste (and I usually enjoy tomatoes), still pretty good though and the portion size was huge. I returned to K Tang after my first visit, which was just over a month ago. This time, I decided to order the yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) bibim naengmyeon. Everyone, you must try this! It is absolutely delicious. This may very well be my favorite item on the menu. The yukhoe is magnificent. It's fresh and tender and pairs perfectly with the chewy cold noodles. The bibim naengmyeon comes with a sauce that you pour over the noodles and mix in. The sauce ties everything together and really enhances the flavor of the dish overall. The radish and pear slices are super refreshing and add a nice touch to the whole dish. The restaurant has a casual and cozy vibe, making it the perfect spot for both families and friends. Despite being busy, the service was excellent. Considering it's been a couple of days since my visit and I'm still thinking about the yukhoe bibim naengmyeon, I know I'll be back! read more

Plenty of parking spaces available even on a weekend during lunch time. There was a short wait under 15minutes. It is a medium size restaurant with quick friendly services. We came here for their ice cold noodles. On a hot summer day, it is simply the best. Both the spicy cold noodles with cuttlefish and salmon came with a pile of toppings. The noodle was perfectly cooked and the cold soup was deliciously full of flavors with the perfect hint of spiciness. It is not the burning type of spice so don't be afraid to try it. And don't feel ashamed to drink the whole soup. I personally liked the chewy cuttlefish better than the salmon. Maybe because salmon is normally pretty unusual for moolhoe (물회), the fishy salmon flavor didn't feel like it mixed well with the spicy/salty cold soup. Came around 11:30am on a Saturday, and it wasn't busy it all but it quickly filled up after that. I ordered the spicy cold noodle with salmon. To me, it was more sweet and not spicy at all. The noodles were super chewy, which weren't my favorite, and the salmon cubes were quite cold, which I also didn't love. I would rate a 3, but I'm quite positive that cold noodles just aren't for me (this was my first time ever trying cold noodles), so I don't want to fault them for just a mistake in ordering on my part. My friend and I came here on a Friday night around 8:00 PM. Even though it was busy, we were seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise. First off, I was delighted to see they served quail eggs as part of the banchan! And as everyone else has mentioned, the kimchi was delicious. Here's what we ordered: Cuttlefish Cold Noodle (4/5) The noodles were perfectly chewy and bouncy, and I loved how the dish had plenty of veggies and didn't skimp on the cuttlefish. I'm not sure how I felt about the ice- it's great for keeping the dish cool, but I'd probably ask for less next time. Honey Spicy Wings (3/5) These were more sweet and tangy/sour than sweet and spicy. They weren't crispy either. Not a bad dish, but definitely one you can respectfully skip. LA Galbi (3.5/5) The marinade was spot-on, but unfortunately, several pieces were overcooked and ended up dry. For $27, I expected better. The vibe in the restaurant was lively, with K-pop playing in the background and ajummas checking in on you and the food (which I appreciated!). FYI: you pay at the front after your meal :) And a cute little touch- after I paid, one of the ajummas handed my friend and me a pack of trail mix, which was super sweet! All of the pictures of this place looked so good, I had to stop by and give it a shot. It's cozy and inviting inside with Kpop playing softly in the background. One of the more interesting Korean restaurants I went to this past month was K Tang. They serve a dish that they're famous for called cold noodles that you could add various types of seafood to that served like a ceviche over noodles with some type of liquid that I cannot properly describe because I don't know the seasonings. It also has crushed ice Incorporated into this salad, if you will, to keep the dish cold while eating. Very interesting! I don't know if I will order it again but I did enjoy the experience and there are so many other items that I prefer like they're their array of Ban Chan which included pickled quail eggs among other outstanding items. My favorite dish so far is their pork served in a bao. Very flavorful. Nice clean interior with some of the fastest service in town as the waitress literally runs from table to table ensuring you have what you need. Nice owners who are always welcoming and say hi as they come to check on you at your table to ensure you're satisfied. I'll be back to try other items soon. read more

Exceptional food! We knew it was good when we walked in and saw older Korean ladies, the cooks, sitting together having a family meal. We really enjoyed the banchan it was stellar, and had amazing flavor, definitely made with love. The beef tendon was tender and delicious, the army stew was good, a bit too tangy for me, but everything else was so good and the service was excellent. They were so nice when we told them how great the food was they kept bringing out more banchan. Definitely plan to return here after our shopping at Super Hmart. read more

I had been seeing the salmon cold noodles all over my feed for weeks and finally got the chance to try it!! To be honest, it wasn't outstanding. It was good, but also it's not worth $25. Overall a refreshing dish. The noodles were chewy. There was too much ice though. The brisket ramen was yummy! The brisket itself was a bit on the tougher side, but the soup was flavorful and hearty. Came to try the salmon naengmyeon and it did not disappoint. Probably the best naengmyeon in Houston in my opinion. The broth is the perfect amount of sour and you don't need to embellish it at all. I also tried a few of their other menu items, but the naengmyeon is the best item for sure. I tried the seollongtang which is alright, the beef is a little tough and the broth tastes heavily of beef which is not great to me. I also tried their fried chicken which was pretty good as well. The chicken was lightly battered but still crispy and the meat was tender. I also love all the banchan they serve here. It's different every time, but all the banchan is delicious. read more

Overall very good experience of authentic Korean cuisine. I believe they specialize in the raw marinated items but we unfortunately did not order those. We decided on the cold spicy salmon noodles which were my personal favorite. The broth was very refreshing with a just right level of spicy allowing for the noodles to stand out. We also got their spicy beef/seafood noodle soup which was also a great option for the rainy weather. Not pictured, but we also got the LA galbi which was also a great choice with very tender meat but I would prefer it to be a little bit more crisped up but that's just a personal preference.
