Visiting from out of town, decided to find a local yarn shop, and thanks to google, discovered Hands on Knitting 1/2 mi from our hotel, off W. Colton Ave. The managers were very friendly, introduced me to other knitters sitting with their knitting, showed me the different projects being made, and then gave me excellent advice on the project I just finished. They have a delightful selection of yarn as well. I purchased a bottle of special soap to wash knitted garments, and the owner added that this is a 'no rinse' soap. I'll come back to knit or chat, next time in Redlands. read more

Great shop, great experience. You can't beat the people at this place. Each of the owners are fantastic knitters willing to help you at the drop of a stitch (haha). I literally showed up to knitting circle one Wednesday night and said "teach me." They helped me cast on and start knitting right away. The customers are also fantastic. They help me when I can't figure out how that hole got there or when I need to choose a yarn. It is just one of the friendliest places you will ever go. If you crochet -- this place is for you too. A lot of crocheters go here (including me) and can help you all the same and you still get to eat the same snacks as everyone else. Hey - its all the same yarn, right!?! Speaking of yarn - they have a great selection of different qualities, content and weight. If they run out, they will order it for you. I'm NOT an experienced knitter. So having these lovely owners so helpful was such a relief. The shop is set up like a workshop, not a store. No salesperson hovering, but the owners do encourage you to bring in your knitting and hang out. Other knitters will bring in snacks, coffees, teas, donuts, etc. Someone once brought in avocados from their backyard to share. So lovely! (The store has some coffee cups too, if you forget to bring in your own.) Oh, don't worry. There's PLENTY of stuff to buy! (LOL!) The owners offer so many wonderful items. They'll also order items for you. I ordered a needle set, and many skeins of a wool yarn in "my" color. There's WiFi so you can search for patterns if you can't find one in the store. A very relaxing experience. If I could, I'd spend everyday there! read more

The staff is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is very warm and comforting, and the products are excellent (not-to-mention kept neat and tidy). If you ever have a question about knitting or crocheting, need supplies, or would like to just sit around with some friendly people and knit, this is the place to be. For Christmas, my brother went in and purchased some yarn for me. He knows NOTHING about fiber and said they were extremely helpful in finding which skein to purchase as a gift for me (malibrigo =D). One of my all time favorite knitting stores. They have a wide variety of yarns for any project you're working on. The staff are always friendly and very helpful and every time I walk in there are always customers sitting around working on projects that are happy to help as well. When I have gone in there I am never greeted by anyone, or asked if i needed help. The employees sat at the table knitting and never even acknowledged a customer had come in. After reading the review I thought I would give this place a try. I must admit I find Megann's review on the 1st January to be a little suspect. When I was there it was a full house. Everyone there was willing to help and very nice. If I had gone somewhere 6 TIMES and found it to be busy it means it is a popular place....? As to shelves being empty..... They day I was there boxes came in and were immediately put on the shelf. I then watched and people purchase a good portion of what had been received. They even offered to order some for one guest as one customer had already purchased most of it. Once lady didn't know how to knit and was just curious. They told here when she was ready to learn to come back and they will show her how to start. Including to let the customer know that she can use any yarn she has she was not obligated to purchase from the store in order to learn.......this to me it highly unusual in todays market. If I could give more than Five Stars I would. Finally as to inferior quality of yarn Megann must be looking for lavish and extremely expensive items. I found them to have a great diversity in yarns and fibers. I look forward to the next time I can spend an afternoon just knitting. read more
