I wanted highlights and I wanted them done right. I sought out a good salon with positive reviews on Yelp and found Hands2Create with 5 stars. I had Jeff do my hair 3 days ago. The pros are that he's a very nice guy, the right amount of talkative and personable, and to some degree he seems to know what he's doing. Regulars filtered in and out of the salon during my two hours there; he is clearly beloved by the people who come to him. I don't know what went wrong with my request. I asked for highlights, but I asked for them not too close to my roots so that I could grow them out cleanly -- sort of like a balayage. I didn't exactly want a balayage, but the general idea that the highlights looked natural without being streaks. When I came home and saw my hair under my own lights and mirror, I cried real life tears. It looks terrible. There is a halo around the top 4 inches of my hair where no highlights exist, about 2 inches of highlights in the middle that go from brassy to blondish, and returns to my natural color on the bottom couple inches. $200 later, and all I got out of it were terrible photos to send my mother and a ruined weekend of figuring out how to fix it before my upcoming event this weekend. read more

Full Disclosure: I got highlights here on Sunday off of http://www.salonapprentice.com/ I don't normally write reviews for places that I used weird discounts for, however this place was so amazing. I was here on a Sunday afternoon. Taylor did my highlights. Raymond was also doing hair at the same time. All of the other clients that came in while I was there were regulars. Raymond and Taylor were both so nice to everyone. I saw 3 finished haircuts from Raymond while my highlights were processing. The 3 difference woman all had very different hair, but they all looked amazing when they were done. Taylor did a really good job with my hair. The highlights are just what I was looking for (very natural. My hair actually looks a lot like my sister's hair now!) I know that I got a discounted service here, but I was blown away by how nice the salon is, how great the staff is, and how loyal the customers are. All of those things indicate a outstanding salon to me! Oh, and they offer you a drink when you come in! I love places that do that! read more

I am always excited when it's time to go back at H2C. Jeff always remembers what what hair styles we discussed last time and is always full of fresh ideas and suggestions. He also has the best attitude and truly magic hands. I always get multiple compliments on my hair styles from people. I have been going here for about 3 years and it is well worth driving all the way to Lakeview from Wicker Park where I live. The salon is very tasteful, cozy and boutique-style - not your typical blinky-blinky salon with 20 chairs where you are a nobody. You will even be served complimentary espresso, coffee or tea. Still very, very happy with this salon after several years. Reception is always very accommodating over the phone and pleasant and welcoming in person, offering a beverage and taking coats. Jeff, the owner, is fantastic. He knows exactly how to cut my hair, whether we do the same thing or something a little different. My young child also gets her hair cut here. Her hair was always falling in her face, and Jeff pointed out that it grows forward from the top. He recommended trying bangs.. Update: I've now been seeing Jeff as my primary stylist for over six months, and I'm a happy camper. My hair has never looked better, and he's got my very funky purple color down to an efficient process and reasonable price. (yes, I have purple hair - you have no idea how hard it is to get right.) Best-Kept Secret in Lakeview About 8 or 9 years ago, I wanted a new look. I happened into a trendy restaurant downtown (called Harvest on Huron) and saw a waitress sporting a stunning hairstyle. So, I decided to "follow the hair." I waved her over and asked,"Where did you get your hair cut?" She told me about Jeff Stiglich at his nearby salon. I went there, and never went to anyone else again. But here's the clincher: I go to Jeff, even though I work at a hairdressing company by day that is known to be the "Harvard of beauty schools," where I could get my hair cut, for free, all day, any day. It turns out, people at my company also knew of Jeff. He had worked for us doing hair for a photo shoot. When I mentioned his name around at work, most remembered him and some who were hazy said, "Oh, he must have been good--and had great hands--or he would not have made it on set (for the photo shoot)." They were right--Jeff has great hands, precision, creativity, a natural ability to listen, visualize and design, and does great color. He cares about his craft and being the best at what he does, and it shows. I came in to see Jeff after years of my Step Mom telling me how amazing he is, and I am so glad I did! First of all, the salon is adorable and very comfortable. I typically get a full head of highlights, and am always a bit nervous with new places as my hair tends to come out very warm (brassy). Jeff listened and was amazing! This is a great salon! I moved in around the block about 8 months ago, and I regret not writing this review sooner. Jeff was amazing-I went in as a new client, we talked about what I wanted as far as my hair was concerned, and he executed brilliantly. I highly recommend him and all my friends and family ( including my sister who has been seeing Jeff for over 10 days and my son who is an incredibly finicky teenager) who visit him become loyal customers. I was recently visiting Chicago, I had some time to kill and I was in desperate need of a facial. As fate would have it, I happened to walk by Hands 2 Create Salon and Jenny had an opening for me. Walking in to a new place, I wasn't sure what to expect, but Jenny was amazing! She took her time and gave me a great facial and she answered all of my skin questions! She also came up with a fantastic skin regimen for me and sent me home with some products that I am in LOVE with! I have been getting my haircut for less than $20 for years at different supercut/hair cuttery's. I have never in my life had a good hair cut or even imagined that it could be cut any other way and assumed I was always going to despise getting my haircut. I moved close the Hands2create a few months ago and needed a haircut last minute and read the reviews on this place online and about Jeff the owner in particular. Although it was more then I was used to spending on a haircut I can't even begin to explain how wonderful it was. For the first time when I left I loved my haircut. I didn't have to try and fix it when I got home and I vowed never to go another place again. I had no idea that even though I thought my short hair was easy to cut having a professional actually do it could make such a difference. Jeff is an awesome guy and I recommend him to everyone.
