Not as good as it oncw was!! Sandwich was smaller but the price didn't!! Quite disappointed!!read more

I wanted a really good deli sandwich. The kind of itch that can't be scratched by one of the skimpy…read moresandwiches from a little chain place. A big massive corned beef or ham & swiss or Dinty Moore from a place that has fresh bread smell absorbed into the walls. Well, Bread Basket kind of delivered. I had picked out my chosen order while salivating in between work meetings earlier that morning, and ordered online, expecting a quick in-and-out work lunch visit. I got there - and the polite staffer told me that I had to pick something else, because the item was no longer on the menu, but hadn't been removed from the website yet, and hadn't been removed from the menu above his head yet. He handed me a pamphlet menu - which still had the menu item. No big deal. Restaurants can transition. Change is good. I went with a #9 Rachel's Rhyme as my back-up. It's corned beef and turkey breast as a 4-decker club sandwich, with Russian dressing. Positives: the sandwich was huge. I'm a big dude, and I could only eat half. The corned beef was excellent, the turkey was tender. Negatives: the sandwich was $20 and didn't include any side nor drink. That's like "the most expensive lunch with unlimited sides" at some other local spots. It doesn't fully redeem that price point when I got to keep half to eat the next day for lunch when it was cold from sitting in the fridge. Staff was nice, the place was diner-esque, but I won't be in a rush to get back. Most of the menu was $15.99 or higher for a sandwich by itself. I get inflation, but I can still get an amazing buffet nearby for less than that.

Service was prompt and friendly. It's tight inside, this is not the place to come with a big group- but a few friends or your family? Absolutely! Perfect. 4 stars because I just feel like the Reuben could have used a bit more flavor somehow. It was a little dry today. The bread was good, the meat was lean and thinly sliced, but I think we needed more punch from the sauerkraut and dressing. Still, will come back many times for years to come! Happy to have this in the area.

Their sandwiches are crazy-expensive, especially for the quality of the turkey. It was the slimy, smooth kind, not the more dry, you-can-see-the-grain-and-taste-the-quality kind. I got turkey and cheddar and it was $15, plus adding a drink and chips was $3 more. Hubband got the turkey and ham sandwich and said the ham was excellent but had the same gripe about the low quality turkey as me. Are they big, yes? Would I rather have less meat but it be much higher quality for the same price? Also yes. Decor hasn't changed in the almost 15 years since I visited. It's clean enough but still incredibly over-crowded with too many tables and chairs. Service was friendly. Honestly, this is just so underwhelming that I'm incredibly surprised that people are excited to drop $15 on a mediocre sandwich. I'm missing something (it must be nostalgia because I didn't grow up here.)

Team behind the counter is friendly and fast. Ambiance? Well don't go here for ambience go for cheesesteak! Perfect rolls, finely chopped ribeye stuffed into their soft bread. I mean stuffed!

Gabriel's is an institution in Metro Detroit as far as cheesesteaks are concerned. I've been to the…read morelocation in Ypsilanti a few times and do really enjoy their sandwiches. This one has essentially the same feel and the food is almost identical as well. I do believe there is an argument to be made that this is the best cheesesteak you can get in Michigan, as the meat is super tender, the bread is very soft and feels like you're biting into a pillow (in a good way) and they offer different toppings as well as their delicious pepper relish. The food and service are no doubt great, with the simple rustic decor giving the place added charm. There are two minor reasons they don't get a perfect score to me. For one the bread, while delicious, is way too delicate. If it absorbs too much moisture from the meat it will break in your hands while you are eating and then you are using a spoon at that point. Secondly I feel like the size of my sandwich was a bit underwhelming as far as length was concerned. They could have put more meat in it as I've seen them really stuff mine at the Ypsilanti location. Despite all this you cannot go wrong coming here for a cheesesteak sandwich
