Uneven grout lines and thickness

If I could give minus stars I would. Unfortunately, I contracted Tyce and his team from Handyman Lawns to do quite a bit of work at my home including the installation of a stone fire pit area, sod, a backyard irrigation system and redo some pavers in our current walkway. The job started on time but they seemed to be in a rush to get it done and most certainly to get paid! They didn't clean up their scrap either! Fire pit area/stone work: The stone work for the flower bed areas and fire pit boarders was so terrible as nothing was level, square and the grout wasn't evenly spaced (it looked like a 5 year old did it vs someone claiming to be professional). We complained that the fire pit wasn't level and all the grout lines lined up vs a professional brick pattern. They tried to build the fire pit twice and then tore it down, claiming that they would redo it again. It's be over 2 weeks with no word that they would come back. So I asked to stop the work and I have now hired someone to redo all of it and he told me building a fire pit just out of limestone was dangerous as limestone can explode if it gets hot! The new contractor realigned and trued up the boarders correctly and built the fire pit on a concrete base for stability with firebrick. You can see in the photos that there is only limestone "bricks" with no fire brick in between and that it was being built without a proper foundation which left it un-level and not truly round. You can also see the unevenness of the fire pit area boarders and grout work. They didn't know what they were doing. Sod: They didn't comb the area or use more than a centimeter of compost/top soil for laying sod. They also didn't roll the sod so my yard is full of dips and holes. A proper landscaper would have combed the area prior to sod installation and rolled it flat after laying it but since there was so little compost (for Tyce to save money) this wasn't feasible! Irrigation system: Trying to save money for himself, Tyce installed a 1 loop irrigation system for the back yard. He chose not to install bubblers at our fruit trees (per original plan) without consulting us - it would have required more effort, money and another loop. Because it was a 1 loop system, it required more pressure to push the water through 7 sprinklers. He finished the system on a Friday together with laying sod and left us with high pressure (more than 150 psi) on both the irrigation system and the house for the weekend. I left messages for him to call but he didn't call or come to adjust the pressure until the following week. I was left trying to throttle the pressure and flow with a 90 degree block valve until he came and adjusted it. I hired a plumber to install a pressure regulating valve. The plumber told me I was lucky not to have blown a pipe, the dish washer or washing machine as normal pressure for home appliances and lines shouldn't be over 75 psi! Again, They didn't know what they were doing! Paver walkway: We asked to redo the paver walkway as it didn't have a weed barrier. The walkway consisted of 2 x 4 foot pavers surrounded by pebble stones. During the job we asked to change the stone to black star rock vs pebble stone. The pavers where not true when they reinstalled them as you can see in the photos. Ever the consummate professional, Tyce wouldn't return calls or texts even though we were told he would. No feedback could be given related to poor quality and they threatened to put a lien on us if we didn't pay them for their shabby workmanship. I can only say stay away!

We built a house in Cedar Park in 2017 and it came with its share of yard issues we weren't prepared for, including a section we didn't realize wouldn't be sodded for us at all. I'd called around for some time to research local companies that could suggest paths forward. I was really excited when we found Tyce and team bc for one, he was patient. Really patient. And he took the time to walk the entire property several times and map out our yard, our existing layout and potential upgrades, including pricing. And let me tell you his pricing wasn't just slightly better. It was LEAPS AND BOUNDS better. (One example is when we finally extended the sod, instead of extending the irrigation for thousands of dollars, he recalibrated our existing system and added in gold course heads to accomplish the same end goal for a fraction of the price). He gave me his personal line, his business line and told me to reach out any time to ask questions. Since we've begun, he's done 2 major projects for us each with individual requirements and installs, each done with precision and the utmost care and we intend on using them for many more. And since we've had our sod extended we also decided to start using them for our bi-weekly lawn servicing and they are in-n-out with a quality job each time. Whether is good pricing, quality work, a knowledgeable professional with creative suggestions you're looking for or all of the above, we highly recommend Tyce and the team at Handyman Lawns.

Can't say enough great things about Handyman lawns. We needed our trees trimmed, sod, and mulch to our back and front yard. Tyce and his team did a great job in just 4 days and I couldn't be happier with the end result. Thank you again for all yalls hard work in making our yard beautiful.

New pathway replacing ugly mulch and pebble rock area

I cannot emphasize enough how awesome Tyce and Handyman Lawns is. Not only is their work impeccable but their character and professionalism is second to none. Not only did they start much sooner than we had anticipated, they were meticulous in making sure we had the best materials. When a batch of sod they had seemed to be less than stellar, they refused to install it and instead sought out the highest quality sod. During the entire process they were great with my two young kids who really wanted to watch the process. All of this, plus the price was super reasonable. We would have easily agreed to pay double for the quality of work and materials they brought. HIGHLY recommend!

We have a ground level wooden patio with a metal veranda that was in sore need of having the…read morefloorboards replaced. Initially, we planned to do the work ourselves. We bought/stained pressure treated lumber and did the demo work of pulling up the old porch. We soon discovered to our dismay that the underlying frame and columns holding up the veranda were varying degrees of rotted-out and needed to be replaced entirely. We wanted the job done right, and so we decided to find a contractor to work with. After doing some research on Yelp, I reached out to a handful of deck building specialists. Originally, Deck N Cable Railing wasn't even on my radar. Yelp has the function that if you click a button, it'll automatically duplicate your request and send it to an additional handful of businesses. I didn't even realize that I had accidentally done this. I'm so glad I did because Deck N Cable Railing was one of the businesses that Yelp sent my way. First off, they were very fast at responding to my request for info. They reached out, asked for a bit of additional information, and then offered to come out to give a free estimate in person within 24 hours. Juan Pena, the owner, arrived on time for the appointment. He listened attentively to our needs and evaluated the job that needed to be done quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. He was sensitive to our desire to not let the lumber we had already bought/stained go to waste and made a plan to utilize it. He was also able to give us a quote on the spot which was really helpful. On the day of the installation, Juan arrived with his crew members, Jovial and Alejandro, to help get this situated for the job before he left for the day to attend to other projects. Jovial and Alejandro spoke limited English, but they used their smartphones and Google Translate to communicate with me when a question came up and so communication worked out just fine. Jovial and Alejandro were friendly, professional, and very hard workers. They were fast and fastidious and kept the job site neat. Juan had said that it may take up to two days to finish the job, but his crew were almost complete by the end of the first day. There was a minor issue with the frame visibly sticking out just a bit at one corner of the terminating edge of the porch. It wasn't a structural issue, more of a minor cosmetic issue, but I discussed the issue with Juan, and he immediately came up with a suitable solution to address my concerns. He joined Jovial and Alejandro on the morning of the second day of the installation to personally inspect their work. The job was finished within an hour or two on the second day. All in all, Juan and his team did an excellent job with the porch. It looks fantastic and feels exceptionally sturdy. We're very happy with the quality of the work, and we are looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come. We'd recommend Deck N Cable Railing without reservation based on the quality and efficiency of their work alone, but that's not the only reason you should consider giving them a call. Juan was very easy to work with. He's professional, responsive, friendly, and conscientious. He takes a lot of pride in his work and it's important to him that his clients are 100% satisfied with the work done. Moreover, his pricing is very reasonable. His quote for the job was by far the most reasonably and competitively priced bid. Finally, and this is a bit embarrassing, I accidentally overpaid for the job. I paid Juan in cash, handing him an envelope with cash, without realizing that I had miscounted it. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from Juan that evening (apologizing for calling so late!), to let me know that I overpaid him, and he wanted to schedule a time when it was convenient for me for him to stop by in person to return the amount I overpaid. That's integrity, folks. If, like me, Deck N Cable Railing isn't on your radar, they should be. Solid 5 stars.

That's a bunch of crap. They don't know what the rest of my deck looks like. They never bothered to come out and look at it. This company is a joke and all they want to do is upsell you. Beware of this company!

FYI "Custom Deck and Fence Austin" also has poor reviews on multiple sites noting owner Todd Louis Ratajik of "Good Day Baked Energy Snacks" (Forfeited Existence). Sites now name "Cesar" as owner. Negative reviews disappeared. AFFD has pending lawsuits with Travis County Courts. Unknown AFFD subcontractor alarmingly used my name and address in another client's lawsuit wtf! Std: Concrete pad supports stairs. AFFD: Stair stringers hover in air, failing to land on concrete. Todd blatantly texted that stringers would step out (not down) from deck. I refuted the abnormality. Top step was cut off; stringers don't reach concrete. Instead of extending pad or redoing stringers, an ugly post was set. Std: Stairs treads w/o gaps. No overhangs. AFFD: Stringer cuts forgot stairs' fascia; treads weren't 11+". Gaps added to meet code, so stair noses are 1.25+", ie trip hazards. FYI Use rise-to-run guidelines. Std: Posts sit on existing FINISHED concrete pads. (LOL) AFFD: Post had no contact with pad (after removing makeshift shams to hide the blunder) ie ZERO deck weight on ground. No continuity in stairs fascia to meet deck edge. Silver bolts on black railings. Posts unequal distance from deck edges. Cedar's shorter lifespan requires staining / maintenance is inferior to Trex's composite fascia. Std: Disclosure of unforeseen issues. Protocols. Loyal crews. AFFD: Crew wasted a day plotting makeshift repairs after causing roof damage. Licensed roofer was furious about erroneously-cut flashing. Roofers returned after crew again made damaging cuts where told not to. Zero acknowledgement from Todd. AFFD: Crew noted holes in house's ceiling after removing joist nails. No repairmen references. Not-our-problem mentality. AFFD: 15+ days by 2 tired guys: the hire + his actual neighbor. Ditto to reviewer compelled to supervise. Days start late, end after 7pm. My neighbors had 5 deck builders who left by 6pm still jolly. AFFD: Non-recyclables in recycling bin. Concrete and stinky liquid in trash bin. Cigarette butts, nails, and construction debris across yard. AFFD: Crew won't tell owner about gray areas and errors in judgments. One unsure if he'd get paid wth. Std: Professionalism. AFFD: No final walkthroughs. Owner ignores items in emails. Condescending; when I climbed a ladder re an issue (that I called a roofer to fix), Todd muttered that I was "an inspector, eh". Instead of talking measurements, Todd's retort was "I'm the owner of a deck company", as if titles alone grant proficiency. Labor is hired out, crew turnover is high. Workmanship depends on whoever is outsourced, who aren't deck builders so much as guys who "have built decks before". Expect no corrections on what Todd Ratajik deems as "good enough".

They take the rain into account to ensure the work gets done without interference. I had a shared neighbor fence with rotting posts and they quoted 5 poles and any fixes to slats as needed. The quote included metal posts and wood, we chose metal for longevity. The installers put in cement to lock them in for good. Pinar also split the quote with my neighbor and sent us separate invoices. They finished the work in 2 days, only because my neighbor had them complete a new gate as well, which I just had them do as well. They can do it all when it comes to fence work, they are on time, polite, quiet, and clean up after the job is done. All removal is included in the pricing. No surprises on the bill. I will be having them come out and just finish out the rest of my posts to metal, to match the neighborhood fence, which started with metal anyways.

Unfortunately, I ended up going with a different contractor who quickly proved he didn't know what he was doing. After I decided to end that relationship, I immediately called Landmark and one other company back who had given me quotes previously. The other company couldn't find the time to get someone to come out for a re-estimate and then did not return my calls. Merlin was extremely responsive and came to give me another estimate to check out what had already been done. He originally told me mid-July and at this point it was mid to late May. Everyone was booked through July at this point, so I was willing to wait. Merlin ended up starting earlier than planned around the end of June but then I had an issue with my composite boards with Home Depot where they had to reorder my boards and wait another week. Merlin was extremely understanding and worked around the Home Depot mistake. As soon as my boards arrived, they immediately picked them up at Home Depot and finished the job within the next 1-2 days and ended on a Holiday - July 4th. They are a hard working, trustworthy, and professional team and did an absolutely outstanding job! I would definitely use them again for any fence or decking needs. I'm so glad I found them!
