We hired this crew to redo a neglected area around a large, mature live oak in our backyard -- it was just bare dirt and old, deteriorating plastic edging when we started. They pulled out the old edging and replaced it with metal edging, brought in fresh dirt and pea gravel, and installed an irrigation line to keep things watered going forward. We also had them plant two jasmine we had in pots, and they patched in new grass around the edges where the old digging had left bare patches. The end result looks great -- clean lines, good drainage, and the area around the tree finally looks intentional instead of neglected. The jasmine and grass patches have taken root well. Jaylin, the foreperson, was easy to work with and responsive to our input throughout the job. Everything went as I was told it would be! Jaylin is wonderful to work with. He's built his company from the ground up -a feat I greatly admire.......and he is a working member of his team! We contacted him early and received an " early bird" discount. We opted to go with the large bright LED C9's (?)not positive on the size.... but I talked to Jaylin about doing something a little more creative than the standard multiple colors although they were pretty too Jaylin actually brings along a short string of all the colors so they can be plugged in and you can see how they're going to look I asked him about a design that he thought was simple yet special and he encouraged me to consider a red and white pattern so it would look like candy canes. I love that idea and that's what we went with. It looks awesome & super festive. In terms of cost, I felt like it was definitely comparable and with the discount even a little lower than the competition. The thing is, I don't believe you can beat their work ethic and that is really important to me. Having been a leader in my former life I am very particular about quality customer service. Jaylin and his team are prime examples. He arrived on time for the estimate spent as much time as I wanted in terms of discussing it and then came to do the install also on time and completed it before they left. There wasn't one scrap of anything left for us to pick up. Jaylin is multitalented and I feel he's very detail oriented which really counts when you're doing a design we can keep them up as long as there as little as we want they will store them for us and there will be a significant discount. Should we decide to hang them again next year? I'm debating on whether I may go with the permanent lights next year, but we'll see. A very honest review - I would not recommend. Jaylin is earnest and tries hard but not the best business man nor was his execution of the project done well. There wasn't a clear level of communication in understanding our wants at the beginning nor a good back and forth along the way. Because of that his team ripped out bushes that were not meant to be replaced, the weed liner was laid too high and thinly mulched and mulch just ran off onto the sidewalk when it rained and needed to be redone and other details that needed oversight on our part. I had to point out spots where the liner was showing through, that was not something he caught. The work was decent, not what I would call excellent but he is a reasonable price so that might be a good trade off. My big reason for getting our lawn redone and some landscaping started with the grass in the back was not growing under shaded areas and agreed to replace the current bermuda with a specific type that grows in shade. He somehow forgot and relaid bermuda in the back and then wanted us to pay another $1500 to offset the cost of his labor to relay the grass we originally agreed and paid to have done. We did not agree to that as the contract stated things clearly. He did go ahead and replace the bermuda the second time but when that grass grew out it had patchy spots of which he has never come back to fix though he said he would, he no longer responds to my texts. There were many other mishaps like being late several times, delays that were not communicated and so forth. One last thing is that he committed to do our lawn service but has missed commitments and has only been here 3 times in the last 6 mo. Without any word he just stopped and will not return texts. I have spoken with him several times and given him multiple chances to respond and fulfill his commitment with no follow up and now no response. read more
