    10:10am and doors aren't open.

Really great climbing gym, and one of the bigger ones offered by Hangar 18. Have been to Hangar 18 gyms in Arcadia, Upland, and Long Beach, and while each have their specific strengths and idiosyncrasies, this is generally ranks near the top. It has both good climbing walls and bouldering areas, clean bathrooms, changing areas, and great, helpful staff. Had to come here on a few occasions since the closer LA and SB counties' locations were still shut down due to COVID, and came when reservations were required, numbers were limited, masks required, etc. The only reason this doesn't get 5/5 stars was because one time three of us booked a 10am slot and despite all of the climbers waiting outside and calling and knocking on the doors, no one was there to open up and we ended up leaving almost an hour later, so that kinda sucked.

First, Hanger 18 is a gym (so don't be like me and dress cute). This gym is pretty big and offers bouldering and power rope climbing. I'm trying to get back into shape and thought I'd try climbing... I went for a month and primarily stayed in the kiddie's terrain. I strongly encourage you to watch videos if you've never done this before (to learn how to use equipment and prepare yourself for your life workout). I'm not a fan of heights and have zero upper body strength, yet I had the raddest time at Hanger 18. The staff is super helpful and two hours goes by super quick here.

It was $66 for two adults if you want to get the day package and $6 more for the monthly membership (which comes out at $36 for each). If you know you only want to go to try it out for the day I would say jump on Groupon and get that discount, after checking I saw a 50% discount that would have saved me $30. If you know decide that you loved it and want to invite a friend next time I would say totally get the membership bc you can bring a friend for free and you can split the cost after :) Regardless, the staff was really friendly especially Anthony who was who helped us and taught of the belay lesson. Really laid back that made you feel comfortable to ask for clarification and questions. It is SUPER HOT especially in the summer time so make sure you bring enough water because they do NOT have a water refill station which really doesn't make sense for a so called gym. With the fans spread around it still has you sweating bullets which I guess is fine as you get a better workout. Pretty clean & spacious place a request as a newbie would be that they had more of the first "level" areas spread across

Had the best time with my nieces!! They absolutely love this place. The gentleman that helped us was very nice and professional. He even recommended to going to one of the other locations because it had more than one available option for new climbers.

Great Gym the staff is friendly and there's a lot of great routes. Would highly recommend.

Need a chalk bag, like this whimsical 8b+ bag, shoes, or other climbing supplies? They got it at the front. Drinks and snacks too.

Coming into the parking lot, I'd say be careful driving past the gate; the gate isn't secured properly to the cement on the floor, so it pops up, making it hazardous for your tires. The workers here are very chill, just like any other gym, though climbers are very chill in general. They're very helpful and friendly if you ever need them. They keep the gym very clean and the bathrooms well stocked. They are also always quick to notice you and provide support if needed. The routes here are a range of difficulties. The basic routes here feel slightly more difficult than other gyms, helping you build your core. They reset the walls on a weekly basis, which encourages you to come back. On the weekdays, it's ridiculously packed where people don't wait their turn in the walls. Lots of newcomers and people who come after work. If you like climbing freely, wait for weekends in the evenings!

I love visiting the other gyms as well in upland and riverside. In over a decade of climbing here, I've met some wonderful friends and climbing buddies. No empathy, just plain cold at the front desk. I will continue to support and recommend Hangar 18 to new and we experienced climbers, but hoping they ask the new front desk staff to treat guests with young kids better.

It is shaded in the morning with the sun hitting it around mid day, so be prepared for the heat of the IE to come bearing down on you. The climbs themselves are pretty good, though I have only done a few so far. There is loose rock, but in this day and age, you should be wearing a helmet when you are belaying (if not when climbing as well). The routes are all sport, with chains or rings set up for anchors and bolts placed fairly close together. I never thought I was running anything out when leading.

Huge recreation space, so many different amenities to try, overall a pretty nice recreation center…read more After 4 years of coming here to the student rec center at UCR, I've decided to write a Yelp review. There have been so many changes over the years to the gym here at UCR, mostly to try to better the place. They've moved things around, made things nicer, added more things, and overall improved the gym space but adding things like extra power racks and now they have a weight sled on the second floor. Service is generally friendly but usually whenever I ask the front desk for things, they seem lost or they act like they don't care about anything. Overall, I do think that this recreation center is a lot nicer than other the other UCs. Some of my complaints include that they refuse to have higher dumbbell limits, since the highest dumbbells only go up to 100. I know it's not in-demand to have them, but if students need to progress, you'd think they'd add more weights. I also don't like that they got rid of some of the leg machines downstairs and moved them upstairs. By doing that, you're making students become even more lazy from doing leg workouts more often and you've created a chicken leg epidemic! haha If you're coming to this gym from outside of the university, I believe that they have guest passes for $5. Which means I'm calling every month because I can't always use all 4 sessions in a month because I do have a life. This is just annoying because I can really only make it on the weekends, and weekend classes book up weeks in advance. My other annoyance with this is if you do go on a waiting list, you'll sometimes get notified like two hours before the class starts that you're off the waiting list - now it's too late to cancel if you've made other plans, OR you've wasted your day waiting around to find out if you'll make it into the class. I enjoy pilates, but this company just does not care at all about the customer experience, they make it unreasonably difficult to use their service, the app sucks, just overall annoying in every encounter I've had with them. I can't ever get into a class on the weekend and then they expire so I can't use them unless I call every single month to ask them to extend the dates. Why make doing business with you guys so difficult? Why put so many roadblocks in to be able to enjoy the service? If I paid for these sessions, they should not expire ever frankly, but good god, 30 days? Not even 60 or 90 days before you can't use them? Now I try to cancel my membership, next billing cycle is tomorrow, and they require a 30 day cancellation notice as well so I'm going to be charged....again.....for a service I can barely use because of how inconvenient they make it. Just annoyed with it and done, I'm sure there are better and cheaper pilates studios who don't make it nearly impossible to use them. I'll be looking for one that doesn't charge me for sessions I can't even use.
