Tucked away next to the Uvalde airport -- and I use "airport" loosely -- The Hanger 6 has the kind of vibe where if you take one wrong turn, you might end up fueling a Cessna. Finally -- salvation: the lone server opens the door for us with the body language of someone being forced to babysit their ex's dog. Look, I'm never one to throw stones at a server. We've all had days. But let's be fair -- how do you know your day's worse than mine? (For the record, my day was fantastic.) Then the spill happens. Guy at our table fumbles his drink. Splashdown. She sees it. Locks eyes. Walks to the bar, grabs a Costco-sized roll of paper towels, plops it down with all the grace of a DMV appointment... and walks off. No refill. No napkins. No acknowledgment. If you're looking for a unique place to eat with good food, definitely check this place out! My husband frequents this place with his work buddies but this was the first time I've been here. The staff was friendly and patient with me as I admired the thoughtfulness that went into the place and especially the menu! I've never seen such an interactive or neat menu before and took some time to admire it. The menu gave enough options to pick from. We chose the following: 1. PT-19 Salad: bed of greens with apples, pecans and blue cheese crumbles and topped with a very well seasoned and moist diced chicken breast. Do not opt for any other dressing except the one it comes with, the honey vinaigrette dressing. It was the perfect pairing for this salad! Definitely a must for any omnivore! 2. Fish tacos: it was a grilled, well seasoned fish topped with their house made pico, coleslaw and jalapeño dressing. It comes with a side and my husband opted for the French fries. The French fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned to perfection. The taco had the right amount of texture with the crunch of the coleslaw/pico to the fish. The dish wasn't fishy at all and prepared well. Another recommendation if you like fish tacos! If you're in the area, you should definitely check this place out! Such a unique location. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching planes come and go. The food however was very disappointing. Chicken tenders were over breaded and slightly burnt. The chicken, once you got through the breading, was very dry. I should have sent them back. They were so bad, I didn't even bring them home for my dog I told the waitress how bad they were. I hope she passes my comments to management and the food will be better next time. read more

On our day trip to Uvalde we decided to try this place out. Kind of hard to find if you aren't familiar with the area. When we arrived there was one family there but nobody else. So plenty of seating with no wait. Place was somewhat clean, little dusty in some areas when you look around the dining area. Service was good, I mean we were the only two people in the place. My burger seemed like it had been warmed up and it had a lot of crumbly salty seasoning on it. I was expecting better I guess due the reviews I read. Especially since they weren't busy. read more

Obviously the 18 year old who was cooking was not trained properly. He said the grill was to high. I said, "you may want to turn it down." The coleslaw tasted like dessert. The chicken fried steak was tough. The cream corn with bacon, mp, and onion rings were good. He also started mopping with Fabuloso. That's stuff is HORRIBLE. I came here pre-Covid and I'm not sure why I didn't review. But I'm finally back on the road for work and back at it. Tonight I had the special - shrimp tacos with a side of broccoli. I got two tacos on corn tortillas with perfectly grilled shrimp. The chipotle aioli had a surprising bite but yummy. Even the steamed broccoli was lightly seasoned. Had a catch up luncheon with a middle school friend at Hangar 6 over the weekend. GF and I who met in elementary school met up with her junior high BFF; haven't seen each other since 9th grade. Checked out the reviews and picked Hangar because of it's similarities to the Airport Diner in Fredericksburg. Any venue whether it be restaurant or hotel located near the runway is a treat for me. Unfortunately, Hangar disappointed just as Airport Diner does. Took some time get our order taken. I attempted to split an entree with my GF; waitress advised the Chicken Marsala was too small to split. She ended up with the shrimp tacos while I opted for the club sandwich. I overheard the kitchen was hand cutting fries that day as they were out of waffle fries. The fries were limp and terrible. Perhaps adjusting the fryer temp or double frying for a better chance at a crisp exterior. GF's tacos ordered with corn only had one tortilla per taco. Doubling up on the tortillas would increase the dishes appeal. Her fries terrible also. My biggest complaint with my club was the bacon. Think a prop from the next Hellboy movie. Chefs, pay close attention. If you will cook a burger to temperature you should expect someone to ask for something other than annihilated bacon. I might be in the minority and that's fine. I did ask for the bacon cooked to my desire. Cook ignored my request. Waitress returned after my complaint to tell me they were out of bacon. Meaning they cooked all of it ahead of time for the day most likely in the fryer. Anybody in the kitchen care about their guest's preferences? Service was OK. View of the airfield while spectacular didn't make up for the kitchen mistakes and lack of care. Prolly try another place next visit to Uvalde. read more

First time visiting this nice restaurant. Nice ambiance with the murals of military aircraft honoring the history of the property once location to pilot training during WWII. Our server was great and welcoming. She suggested different offerings of the burgers on the menu. We ordered the P51. Wow, have not had a burger this good in years. Hamburger patties are not frozen. Mr R and I were on the road at 6.30am to meet the parents for an adventure in Uvalde and hit this for a late lunch on the way back. Ma saw it in Tx Highways and decided she'd be adventurous and try it after 2.30pm. I'm glad she did. Head for the airport, follow the three signs for Hangar 6 and take a right. Reasonable prices. Multiple options. Good food, good service. My family loved Katz's fried pickle spears and are always looking for the inheritor of that perfection. These are far and away the best fried cross-cut pickles I have had, with some good spice thrown in. I tried a turkey version of a Reuben, a Riveting Rosie. Spouse had his fave Frito pie with surprise pulled pork atop. Dad had what looked like a variety of chili dog and ma tried the Dauntless, removing the ghost pepper jack when it talked back to her. I was too slow to grab the tab, but I had a pleasant experience and a good meal here and would recommend it to any meat eater who happens to be in the neighborhood. Unique place to have lunch or dinner. Located among the hangers at the Garner Feild Airport, they serve good comfort food. One of the better options to eat while in Uvalde. Take some time to read the history of the airport and local area inside the menu, very interesting. Service was very good. Saw this restaurant featured on a Texas travel/food show. Had to try it as we ventured out and found ourselved driving through Uvalde. Did not disappoint. I had the chicken fried chicken w/jalapeno gravy. A HIT! Hubby has the burger special and he loved the unique taste. Highly recommend. This hidden little gem is off the beaten path but completely worth a trek to the Garner Field Airport! We happened upon Hangar 6 on Yelp and decided to give it a shot - we were VERY glad we did. Walking into the restaurant we were greeted by a charming, aviation-themed decor in a diner setting. The waiter, Josh, greeted us and guided us to a table to allow for social distancing from the other patrons. Our corner booth allowed us a view of the runway at the airfield. We had a selection of beer to choose from, along with the usual fountain drinks. They were unfortunately out of wine at the moment, but they usually have it available for service. We ordered fried mushrooms and fried pickles as starters; they both appeared to be hand-battered and were delicious. My husband had the Cuban Missile, I had the Mile High Club, one son had the Red Tail, and the other had the chicken tenders. The sandwiches were perfectly toasted and well-constructed. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. The Cuban was not drenched in mustard, and we were able to actually taste the individual ingredients. The pulled pork on the Red Tail was delicious with a sweet and tangy sauce that didn't overpower the flavor of the meat. My club was delicious, and the cole slaw was light and appeared to have been made from scratch when I ordered it, like there was a head of cabbage in the back just waiting to be sliced. The waffle fries were well-seasoned and not overcooked. The environment makes the meal. Watching the pilots come and go during our meal and the decor really added to the ambience. Our waiter was attentive without hovering, and unfailingly polite. The restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms, and the presence of 2 or 3 flies is to be expected in Southwest Texas. Just ignore them like everyone else does! All in all, 5/5, and I would happily return again and again. read more

The 1 star is solely in recognition of the fantastic design and decor. This cafe has great ambiance. The menu choices appear to be very appealing, especially when you begin to see plates come out of the window! Yum! We were seated across from a table that had a party of about 12. Their food arrived and the diners began to eat. When the waitress came back, she asked how everything was, and one of the men said, "I ordered a BLT." She replied, "That is the BLT." He said, "But there's no BACON!" She was back in about 5 minutes with a bowl of bacon for him to put on his own sandwich. That should have been a sign. It was well over an hour before we got our food. My friend's 2nd glass of sweet tea was nothing but melted ice at this point. I was never offered a refill of my water. After our food arrived, the waitress never returned to our table again. I ordered the "Frito Pie" which had cheese, Texas Chili, and topped with pulled pork and onions. I got it and asked the waitress where was the chili? She said it's blended into the cheese. Then how is that "chili"?? It was chili flavored cheese sauce that looked like concession stand cheese. There was way too much pulled pork, so it had a sweet taste that was overpowering. Sad interpretation of a Frito Pie...especially for us Texans. My friend ordered the Brewster Buffalo sandwich. You would expect the chicken to be the star of the sandwich, but it was literally the size of a large, 3-inch chicken nugget, cradled in 2 large slices of soggy Texas "Toast" (not toasted and too much butter made it oily when you held it), and there was nothing to moisten the sandwich, like mayo. It was dry and plain on the inside. The waffle fries?? They were so overdone and super dry, they felt like wood chips. There was no ketchup on our table, nor was it offered. Our server always had her back to us and never bothered to pass by our table again. Neither one of us finished our meal. I was giving them a second chance today. The last time I came, we ordered salads, but those got screwed up, too. How can you mess up salads? We were very disappointed, and I expressed our concerns at the register to our server. All she could say was, "sorry." I said it was the kitchen's fault, not hers. We described our food issues, and all she could say was "sorry." I asked, "Is there anything you can do?" She said, "I don't have control over the kitchen." I asked, "Isn't there a manager we could talk to?" She said, "The managers are too busy." I just laughed out loud. What a joke! The entire wait staff, bus staff, and kitchen were all VERY young people; maybe high schoolers, but no one over 25, for sure. The 2 youngsters doing the cooking were always laughing. The servers moved like molasses, and NO ONE was expediting the food. People waited FOREVER to get their meals. It wasn't even crowded. When we arrived, there was a party of 12 inside, and one other small table being occupied, and there was a large party on the outside patio. That was it! There are no excuses for bad customer service and lousy food that is overpriced. read more
