I wanted to share some feedback from our recent visit. We noticed on the receipt that we were charged $4.00 for the pie, even though the menu listed it as $3.25. When we asked about it, we were told the whiteboard price reflected inflation, but it was a little confusing since the menu hadn't been updated. Also, the pie didn't have meringue on the entire piece, which was a bit disappointing. The chicken from the bar wasn't up to temperature (although the fish was), and the hamburger was very dry and had a cardboard-like texture. I personally found most of the food to be overly salty, but that may just be my preference. We also noticed the customers ahead of us returned their chicken sandwich because it was undercooked. That said, the atmosphere was fantastic--watching the plane take off was a really cool experience! We also appreciated being sent home with drinks to go, and our server was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. read more

Visited hanger kafe... found a hair in the fries. The fries it's self was very greasy and soggy. Had one piece of bacon in the bacon cheeseburger which is 2$ more than the regular cheeseburger. Literally one bacon strip difference between the two. We paid four dollars for the mac & cheese side which is exactly like the craft mac & cheese that you can buy a whole pack for a dollar at Walmart... I was very disappointed it was just a little bowl for the price. Won't be visiting anytime soon. read more

For a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, this place can get busy, especially if they're skydiving. Don't be in a hurry, but the food is worth the wait. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich and onion rings. Sandwich was very good and I would rate the onion rings somewhere in my top 3. Deb had the French Dip. She said it was real roast beef not out of a deli package and really good. Cheyenne was our waitress and she was hopping the whole time we were there but still was able to take care of everybody. Past 4 years truly enjoyed eating here, but new ownership ... manager yelled at staff within earshot of seated customers, food took 35 minutes to arrive, nice waitress kept refilling drinks explaining she didn't know what was going on. Entrees were devoid of flavor, salad bar had wilted iceberg lettuce and four toppings, broccoli from bag was served cold in middle, just so disappointing after years of fabulous home cooked meals. Finding a good breakfast in a rural area usually isn't this easy. I had the Cub breakfast with bacon, hash browns and toast with a half order of biscuits and gravy on the side. The hash browns were barely cooked, which is the way most restaurants serve them. I prefer hash browns cooked crispy and BROWN, so I wish I'd had the pancake option instead. The biscuit was so hard it could be cut with a knife only with great difficulty. So it and the gravy were basically inedible. The chief attraction here is the location and unusual decor. read more

You have to want to get here. Especially at 7:30 on a late fall night. We kept following the signs and wondering what we were getting ourselves into. (Note, I think this is the last week the restaurant is open until 9 PM. A sign on the door said starting November 1, it would close at 3 PM.) As we finally saw a dimly lit runway and a fairly well-lit Quonset hut, we felt a bit better. The restaurant has quite a few tables but there was only one other family dining there. The staff was bare-bones (waitress, busser, cook) but everything was friendly. The burgers were some of the best old-fashioned ones we've had in a long time. Onion rings were definitely homemade and delicious. I tried the sweet potato fries. If you like sweet, order them. They are sprinkled with sugar so be prepared. I'll order onion rings next time. Looked like there was homemade nightly specials (ham, mashed potatoes, green beans) and homemade dessert (gooseberry cobbler). I would love to visit during the daylight. There's a large outdoor are with some vintage cars. I also would like to delve into the history of the place. There were a lot of interesting framed photos and artifacts inside. This restaurant was a bit of a drive for us but totally worth it. We took a day trip down to Joplin from Springfield and stopped her for breakfast on our way. The restaurant is at an air strip. You can sky dive if you want. We enjoyed sitting in the restaurant and watching others sky dive while we sipped coffee and ate. The menu is full of American classics. I had the pancakes with eggs, bacon, and a sausage patty. My husband had an omelette with a side of biscuits and gravy. Very tasty. We had great service and a fun time. Definitely drive out to try this place. You won't regret it. read more

Finally made it over to this place today for lunch. Wife had Chicken Fried Steak (the lunch special) with mashed potatoes & okra. I tried hers, and I had chicken strips with fries. All in all pretty good, and the server was busting her butt taking care of a busy lunch crowd alone. Well done, young lady! read more

Drove an hour to visit the Hanger Kafe. Checked multiple sources confirming that the restaurant was open until 6 pm, including Google and their own website. Upon arrival at 4:50 pm, I walked up to the door where the hours were also posted. The sign on the door indicated they closed at 6 pm. I pulled on the doors. Locked. I looked inside and saw employees moving around. I called and I could see the employees debating on whether or not to answer. Finally, someone answers and I asked if they knew the front door was locked. The employee told me they were closed so I asked if they knew it was only 5 pm. The employee told me that the hours posted on the door, on their own website, and on Google were wrong. As I turned to leave, a woman opened the door and asked, very rudely, if I had a problem. I'm assuming this is the owner that is mentioned negatively in other reviews. I informed her that my problem was that I drove an hour to eat at the restaurant and was disappointed that they were closed when they were supposed to be open. She then informed me that their hours are based on the skydiving business. When I asked her where this information was available, she couldn't answer. My advice is if you decide to try this establishment, don't trust the posted hours and be prepared to be treated poorly by the staff read more

Was out back roading and stoped by here for lunch. Had the bacon cheeseburger with curly fries and it was fantastic, next time around probably try the onion rings they seem to be popular here. Great little place, super clean, staff was pleasant, and on a nice day lots of outdoor seating. Think they are only open till 3:00p now but if you happen to be out that way it's a nice little place to grab lunch and relax and if your lucky you might see a skydiving plane land or take off. read more

Oh my goodness...... the Pilot Beef Melt. Best. Sandwich. Ever. I have no idea how they cook the beef, but it is so tender and so full of flavor. I had the onion rings with it....crunchy but not greasy...delicious! My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich.... Loved it. Our server was friendly and efficient. Great job! Fantastic food, lots to look at, view of sky divers coming down about 200 yards away (if not closer) and planes taking off behind the building, along with classic cars, festival days, balloon & plane rides; we'll def be back. Several other reviews noted poor service. I am really glad we found this place by recommendation before I read those! Our whole experience was great. The server was prompt, knowledgeable, and responsive. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially the friendly local diners. And our food was exceptional. Neat place in an off the beat location, the Hangar Kafe is a fun place to visit any time of the year. They have awesome specials, great selection, and quality food. I had the baked chicken tenders, which were not my favorite, but hubs had a steak that was really good. In the summer you can watch the planes come in through the huge glass wall. The bacon was Baco's bacon bits. Come on, really? Second visit: couldn't get my ice tea refilled. Third visit: got seated by the host/cashier, bright sweet tea when I asked for unsweetened. She was good at keeping the drinks filled, however the tea had an "old" taste. After 45 minutes we finally got our food. My wife had chicken strips and tater tots. I had a pork tenderloin sandwich with onion rings. Other than the fact the onion rings were not done, the food was bland. we visited this restaurant on Saturday during their 3rd anniversary celebration. it was our first time there. the ambience was cool, if you love airplanes you'll enjoy it. the food and service were far below par from what we expected. we waited an hour to get our food once ordered and it was salty and meat was over cooked. the potatoes tasted as if they were made from powder. for the distance we drove to try this place it was not worth it at all. the events they had at the airport were good and the classic vehicles were a treat. however, we will not be back. a waste of time. read more
