We were referred to the Hanger Clinic for a back brace for my grandmother from Kaiser. We had nothing but good experiences from here. The staff at the front was polite and answered any questions we had. We got Holly as the specialist that fit her for a brace she was patient with my grandmother as she has restricted movement in her left arm/hand. She made sure she understood how to put the brace on, now to remove it and how to sit and stand correctly. read more

I used this place at the direction of my podiatrist at Sutter Health back in 2012. They took my information, they said they received my doctor's orders, etc. I have nothing to say about the front-line staff. They were fine. My complaint is about the so-called "doctors." A young man (dark hair, glasses--I can't recall his name) took down some info, watched me walk around the room without my orthotics for a bit, checked my feet, told me what he'd do, etc. I had to correct him and indicate that I wanted STRONG orthotics made of hard plastic. I had broken others. He agreed. He took measurements. He marked up a sheet of paper. I believe he even made a cast of both feet. One important point: my left leg is a quarter inch off from the right; thus, I have to have a bit of a heel to make sure I'm walking correctly. The orthotics came in and they were NOT made to my request. I'd waited several weeks for these. They were made of a softer material for runners and they didn't have the quarter-inch adjustment in the left heel. The young man apologized for the mistake. He asked me to try them out for a couple of days. I did. They sucked. I broke them. I came back and told him to fix the mistake. I reminded him of the heel issue and the hard plastic. More weeks went by. I hadn't heard back from them during the time frame they said they'd have them ready. I called and they still weren't in. I believe they said they'd failed to send out my order? Not a good sign. More time goes by. I had to call them to find out if my order came in. They said it finally got there. I go to the clinic to get my "new" orthotics. I'm excited. The pain in my feet has increased and I'm limping. Again, they've failed. The orthotics are made of harder material but not hard plastic. They said it's cheaper. I told them, flatly, that price was never an issue and that I had requested hard plastic. They said "oh well." As if that was the end of the matter. AND, the damn things didn't have the quarter-inch height adjustment! I pointed this out and they shrugged their shoulders. I told them to make them again. They said no. An older man came in to assuage the situation. He told me they could add a height adjustment. What they did was add a piece of foam to the bottom of the heel--which was a joke! They told me that it was the best they could do. I was tired of playing this game. I was in pain. This pair, though lousy, worked for what it's worth. I'm considering writing to BBB. I left this place because someone was doing identity theft on me and they always talk like there up to something. Luckily I left and found someone that makes a way better leg now, don't have to worry about my leg swelling up or leaking air. Soo Hanger stop calling my number. I had my most recent AFO made about 2 years ago. It broke in 1/2 no idea why. The "Provider" said it may be covered or may not by medicare. I thought since it fractured it might be covered. I should have got one from the Amazons on the internet where prices range from $20 to $50 for something decent. When a bill arrived for $650 I returned to the clinic. The office person on duty looked at the bill and said "it may have been coded wrong, lets try it again." That was the end of any help. I dont know if they tried a different code like "AFO broke and had to be re done" or "I think I will go out for lunch. I have heard nothing from them except another identical bill. No mention of what they tried or anything. I sent a letter asking what happened or what was the response. NOTHING. The next thing i got was a notice from a bill collector that I owed the full amount. If I need to go to a clinic I will go different clinic. Even the Amazons will give you your money back if something breaks. Hanger wont even discuss it. Had they said that while "breakage is not covered, we can split the cost with you since it is so new" I would be happy and cough up the $ 325 and would not continue telling this horror story to anyone who will listen. My doctor sent me to this place for a walking splint because I cracked my ankle and sprained a ligament.. and well, it just wouldn't heal on its own over the course of the last six months. I arrived a little before 4pm on a Friday (the office closes at 5) and there were just a few people in the waiting room. The lady at the desk was helpful and nice when it came to my insurance and understanding that I wouldn't be able to pay my co-pay that day because I wasn't aware that' I'd have one. She told me they'd bill my insurance then bill me if the insurance wouldn't pay. So I was grateful for that. I sat in the waiting room for about 10 minutes after that before being called back by a younger guy with dark hair and glasses wearing a green apron who didn't bother to introduce himself, nor did he have a name tag. He looked like he honestly didn't want to be there. To sort of sum the rest of this up, he led me to a room and told me he'd be right back. He set my patient papers (including the prescription paper from my doctor that said a right splint for my ankle, aka a walking splint) and a few seconds later comes back with a very basic ankle brace. I told him I already had one of those and that my doctor wanted a splint for my ankle. He said he didn't know what an ankle splint was and went to grab a book. He comes back with the book and flips through it and says something along the lines of "I mean a splint can mean any part of the body" so I asked him if we could call my doctor to find out exactly what she wanted and he said "Yup, go ahead and call" then started to walk out of the room. I thought it was pretty unprofessional of him to tell me to call and he must've sensed it or caught the look of disbelief in my face because at last second before leaving the room he said "I can call her." He calls and comes back to tell us she's with a patient and she'll call him back and told us I could wait in the room. At this point it's 15 minutes before 5. I sit in the room for about 20 minutes (and at this point the office has to be closed, it's a little past 5pm) and not once did he come back and say anything to me, nor did anyone else pop in to even just make sure nobody was in any of the rooms. I could hear the office personal leaving, including one guy walking down the hallway making a comment about how he's going to see his "old lady". After about five more minutes I got up because it was incredibly quiet and I knew at that point nobody had any idea I was in the room. I grabbed my patient papers and walked to the front desk (almost all of the lights in the place were off at this point) where luckily there was a woman (who was about to leave might I add, she had her car keys in her hand) that I was able to stop and ask what I was supposed to do. I explained that the guy had left and never came back and she asked me if I knew what I was supposed to get, so I told her a walking splint and she knew right away what it was. She also profusely apologized for the guy's actions. She told me she could help me if I wanted and took me into a room and came back with the splint. She helped me with it and was very nice about everything. I wish I could have caught her name, but I do remember she had a British accent and was just very pleasant all around. She's the ONLY reason I am giving this place a star, otherwise if I could choose negative stars I would. I will never go back here if I need any sort of brace/splint/prosthetic.. I will beg my doctor to send me anywhere else if I have to. read more

There are times in life when service is so terrible that you must inform others. The billing practices in this business has been unprofessional and should be reviewed by an outside agency. A clear directive was written to Hanger from my insurance company and the business, to this day, cannot complete the action. very poor service..my husband had a prescription for a compression stocking we went to this place jan 6 upto this date we have not gotten the compression stocking we called the doctor and claims adjuster and according from the adjuster she already approved it and fax harger the approval...but every time I called hanger they keep telling me they don't have any approval or any information from our adjuster. I called the adjuster again and she fax me the fax confirmation one from the morning and one from the afternoon. Will never use this company again...horrible service and the person I spoke to was very rude on the phone. read more

My doctor sent me to Hanger for orthotic insert for my shoes. I went there, scheduled an appointment return in 2 weeks. They took my insurance information. I had severe stabbing foot pain. I show up for appt.checked in, that is when they started talking to my insurance company. We both learned at that time, my insurance doesn't cover this Companies orthotics. If they would have checked my insurance first, they would've saved me a lot of pain, I would've made appointment with Orthotic Company covered under my insurance. Now with my foot pain even worse than before, I'm pressured to go with out of pocket expense, $300.00. They took molds, and said they'd be ready in 2 weeks. 2 weeks pass and I don't hear from them, so I call them and they tell me it might take another 1-1 1/2 weeks. I thought ok, though now I'm thinking I have more then 1 pair of shoes, I will need more inserts, that's another out of pocket expense. I called them back to see if I can cancel the process of making the orthotics. They didn't even start, so they were able to cancel the order. Medical businesses always call to check the insurance will cover them, not wait for you to arrive. This is not good for business. I had to leave early from work 2 times. With their incompetence, I decided to start over, and contact my insurance company to find orthotics company covered. I called them and made an appointment for 2 weeks. They wanted to know what insurance I have. This is the difference, if I wasn't covered they'd be calling me. I have good insurance too. My doctor thinks this is a good company, and sends all her patients there, that's another problem. read more
