It was smooth and not overly sweet. I also tried the French Toast Breakfast Sandwich and it was quite good. Total was a little over $$22 for the two items and a 20% tip. Free street parking available. They are also doing great things for the community and that is worth so much more than great coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

We rolled in a little before 1:00 PM and had no trouble finding easy street parking (huge win!). The vibe inside? Mixed. While the space was cute, relaxed and inviting, the service was... not so much. The guy at the front counter barely looked up from his screen, and let's just say, enthusiasm wasn't on the menu. Definitely not the warm welcome we hoped for and very unfortunate. BUT--shoutout to my bestie for treating us to a coffee date, because the drinks were solid. I had the piña colada cold brew, which was super sweet at first, but after a quick stir, it hit just right. My bestie went with the strawberries & cream cold brew and a matcha lemonade. Both were surprisingly good, but the matcha lemonade really stood out to me; so refreshing and unique. All in all, Backstory was a convenient and tasty pre-concert stop. If the service matched the drinks, this would've easily been a 5-star visit.

I've since removed myself due to how popular the shop got and recently had an opportunity to revisit. I'm so glad I did! What I once knew as a tiny, cozy shop has expanded into an entire new section directly behind the original space allowing for more guests to visit. This is fantastic! I know the original owners of Cafe Astoria have stepped down, yet I'm pleased to say under the new ownership that many of the original decor and items remain the same from awhile back. The biggest transformations are the larger space, added painted mural, flexible ordering system where you can now order from a QR code at your table or walk up the register, expanded menu that includes brunch all day and items such as breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast. What went from a small crepe and specialty coffeehouse has truly grown. Don't worry the crepes and coffees are all still on the menu. I had the mango smoothie bowl and a mushroom and Swiss crepe - both were outstanding. I even had an iced pumpkin chia. Yum! I look forward to returning. The hospital workers are so lucky to be close to this establishment.

Wifi is good and some people WFH here, but it does get crowded fast on the weekends! The menu is expansive, but the crepes and drinks seem to be the main attractions. They have unique espresso and matcha options, including a secret menu and seasonal items. They do tend to be on the sweeter side. I always get the dirty matcha! My friend enjoyed the campfire mocha and creme brulee in the pasr. The crepes are pretty good - thin, but still soft as crepes should be! I also like the variety. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu here!

My plans changed on Saturday, thanks to a three-hour flight delay getting to the Twin Cities from Toronto. When I finally got into a rental vehicle at 1 pm, I decided to drive to West Saint Paul to check out this place. This nutrition studio is next to H&R Block in a huge plaza. I found a parking spot steps away from the main entrance. It occurred to me when I had parked and looked at the storefront that I have been here. It used to be Hangout Nutrition. I was trying to find a place to get healthy shakes and teas with no to low sugar in them back in November 2021. I tried a tea from Hangout Nutrition. It was okay, but it wasn't as yummy as what I get from ZeeV's Nutrition in Toronto. The Bar Nutrition has taken over the space that Hangout Nutrition once occupied. I was immediately greeted by Ashley. I got to meet Tony for the first time, who was working behind the bar with her. The space feels cozier and more welcoming. Ashley let me know that Liz made a lot of design changes. I liked them. Ashley was happy that I knew about Hangout Nutrition. She used to work at another business in this plaza, and would get shakes and teas from this place. She agreed that they weren't as yummy as those from NCN. The cool thing about this second location is that the menu is identical to the one at NCN. It makes things easier. I got the pineapple dreamer tea. It consists of pomegranate, raspberry, coconut, and pineapple flavours. It's essentially a pina colada with a pomegranate-raspberry twist. Tony made my tea. It was awesome. I loved it. Sadly, it's only available till September. I have never sat at any of their studios to enjoy a drink. I did on Saturday, mainly because I wanted to post a few stories on Instagram to help spread the word about this new location. There isn't any guest wifi at this studio yet. However, it's next to H&R Block that I used its guest wifi. I paid with a credit card. You can also order ahead using the Engage app. Sadly, it doesn't support credit cards with a Canadian billing address, so I can't use it. Even though my plans had changed getting down to the Twin Cities, visiting this new studio made my day. Congrats, Liz and Ashley! I had a great experience with my tea, and look forward to trying the shakes and getting more teas. (378)
