Used to really love this place, and it's still a like. Competitors close in quality are a lot less money. Props to this and the other locations, as this chain seems to be doing quite well. First off kudos on the chicken fingers, as they have a lime/avocado marinade taste that's delicious. The quality and marinade cannot be disputed. Savor the flavor. This is revolutionary tasting chicken, and the way it falls off, is proof of quality. Fries are not what they used to be. Servings size is skimpy. When you're paying $15 and a tip, these need to be upgraded on both counts please. The biggest disappointment is the toast. Got the heel piece, of white bread last night. When competitors offer Texas toasts that exemplify excellence, this heel of white bread from what appears to be the grocery store, ugh. Thank you to the really nice employees. They are all friendly. Turn around time was good too. This is a very clean location. Definitely like it here, as the ambiance is pretty sweet. Yet my hope is that I write this review honestly, and want them to be back to better. Good spot but that amount of fries and white bread, let's see a turnaround in those aspects.

Sandwich and fries

Joes vs Dave's - Dave's won for us for chicken but Joes had better Mac and cheese. I wish they had a tender order comparable to Joes. We got the messy sandwich and it was massive! Waffle fries were crispy even after doing a takeout order and eating later on.

Korean nuggets

Fast and easy to go meal. I ordered the Korean nuggets with rice. The nuggets were good! But the amount of rice was a joke.

Came here twice now. I like that their chicken is cooked perfectly with lots of meat and the right amount of breading and crispiness. Their spicy level are truly spicy. So spicy cravers rejoice! I can take a fair amount of spice but found that their medium level is just the right amount if not a little too spicy for me. They even have a "Angry Hot" level of spice that you need to sign a waiver for. They offer chicken sandos (sandwiches), nuggets, strips, and other parts of the chicken along with waffles and waffle fries. For a more calorie friendly option, they also have a salad with chicken. Located in the strip mall with the Panera, Party City, etc there is a lot full of parking. There are a few tables inside as well a few shaded tables just outside. It's a fairly small shop overall. They have a regular cashier but also two table kiosks to take orders. My order of a small chicken sando, waffle fries, and Korean style chicken with rice and pickles was ready in about ten mins on a weekday dinner hour. Dropping a star for how expensive these are. Food is great but just a bit on the pricy side.

We've always liked Hangry joes, getting the medium and spicy levels. The hotter levels are definitely spicy but have a very tasty kick. I still prefer medium so I can taste the flavors more instead of just heat. We got tenders with waffle fries, which both were crunchy and well cooked. I liked the dry rub and dipping it into the sauces. They were nice enough to give us extra sauces too. The celery and cucumbers had a good crunch too. I loved the loaded mac & cheese but it was a lot for me. It had chicken, the medium sauce, and jalapenos in it. It's my comfort food and to have the extras on it made it even better. The place is inviting and it's sort of small inside but there are also a few tables outside too. There's plenty of parking in that strip center. Has plenty of natural light. Service was decent except oddly slow when it came to the drinks, but I think they forgot so we ended up requesting them at the counter. I'm glad I got bubble tea (I can't resist) to help with the heat. And yes, I did pick up a sheet to color since I'm a child at heart haha

Chicken sando combos and korean chicken nuggets

This place has some of the best fried chicken I've ever had! I got the hot chicken sando, and I almost didn't finish it in one sitting because of how spicy it was. The spice builds up with each bite! Still enjoyable to eat, I just had to eat lots of pickles and coleslaw to help with the heat. I'm definitely getting medium or mild next time! The flavor of the fried chicken was so good, and I loved how saucy yet crispy it was! The meat was super juicy and piping hot. Probably the juiciest fried chicken ever. I also liked how big the piece of chicken was! The portions were worth the price to me. The fries were amazing, as well - crispy and flavorful. The Korean chicken nuggets, in spicy soy garlic, were outstanding. They were really spicy, too - almost as spicy as my hot chicken sando! But the sweet and spicy flavor was so tasty. Everything I tried today was fresh and delicious. I've found my go-to hot chicken place! 10/10. Will definitely be coming back for more and more. Craving some now after writing this review!

We had the tenders and Korean nuggets. They even gave us two free wings to sample. Got the waffle fries too. So everything was delicious but I need to warn you that the spicy level "hot" is no joke, painfully hot. The hangry level requires a waiver, I didn't try that. It was so tasty and delicious but I couldn't finish my chicken because I'm a big baby. The Korean nuggets were amazing. The Hangry Sauce reminded me of Cane Sauce which is great. Staff was super nice. Not much seating but some. Place was clean. I will be going back for the medium chicken.

Ordered two sandwich combos; $35 is a bit pricey for this type of food- also had to wait over 25 mins.

My boyfriend and I LOVE Nashville Hot sandwiches. We have a couple places that we go to often and decided to try this new place out. Meh.. it was quite disappointing. First- We waited over 25 minutes to receive 2 sandwich combos. The sandwiches themselves weren't so bad but I def don't think it was worth paying $35. Second- I think the fries taste good but they are definitely similar quality like that of Popeyes (so I'm saying it's not worth paying a normal meal price for a fast food quality meal) Try this place to get your own opinions though! Every business deserves a chance with everyone.

Their angrier hot is actually very hot!!!! Much more angrier level than Indian hot. My husband loves spicy food, the level of hot spice which he can handle is more than 10 of most of the places here in DMV. So he wanted to try this for so long. My husband signed the waiver and got a to-go order of angry hot chicken wings with waffle fries. Both of these came in one single box. I picked the topmost waffle fries from the box. O my goshhh!!! Those were crazzzyyyy hot for me. They didn't had any spice rub on it, was just sharing the box with the wings. I couldn't had more than 3-4 fries from that box. My eyes were teary and my nose was running! Couldn't think of trying more of it. My husband tried the wings. Although he find it very hot, but he managed to finish half of it. And decided to trash rest of them. He had a tub of icecream after that!! LOL So we visited them again after few days and tried the 2nd hottest spice level. Had sandwich and the wings. Loved it!!! It was an exceptionally hot experience. Not trying the angrier one ever again. But their food with other level of spiciness is fantastic!!

Medium chicken sando
Marina N.

Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken comin in hot! Ordered the medium spicy chicken sando and waffle fries for pickup asap. By the time we got there, our order was ready! The medium spicy chicken sando was actually spicy - coming from someone who loves spicy food! I probably wouldn't get it any higher spice wise because then I wouldn't be able to enjoy my food. If you can't tolerate heat, maybe try mild first. Their chicken was HUGE - it was like two whole pieces of chicken! We split a sandwich and waffle fries amongst 2 people and it was enough food! The chicken was very moist, crunchy, well seasoned and the sandwich was drizzled in their sauce with ample slaw and pickles. It's really big so it may be hard to eat, but who's complaining about that? Waffle fries were seasoned deliciously and came with their Hangry Joe's sauce, which paired well with everything! Would definitely return and recommend!

This honestly may be one of my favorite chicken sandwiches in the area. The chicken is HUGEEE in the sandwich. It id literally sticking out of the sandwich!!! I love LOVE how the seasoning was kind of a wet seasoning instead of using a dry season but it was still very crispy. ALSO i love their pickles it pairs so well with the sandwich...oh man my mouth is drooling just writing this review. The french fries were also huge! Overall really delicious chicken sandwich in the area!

Mary M.

Hangry Joes does NOT disappoint!!! This is what Fairfax didn't know they needed!!! The chicken here is soooo crispy and juicy and flavorful. I've never been a huge fried chicken eater, but I can't stop coming back for more. I am so obsessed with this place. Not only is their food TO DIE FOR, but their staff is SO FRIENDLY and accommodating!!! Jennifer especially always treats me like royalty whenever I come in, it is so sweet. Despite being their first customer (subtle flex), they treat all other customers like royalty as well and it's great to see. I have recommended Hangry Joe's to everyone I know since it opened a few weeks ago, and have received so much positive feedback from those who went and tried for themselves. I would give Hangry Joes allllllll the stars if I could, but I suppose 5 will suffice. Okay so I love spicy food but I did find their medium to be juuuust right, I wouldn't have been able to go any hotter. Their Hangry sauce is a MUST! If you like Bo sauce from bojangles than you'll love their hangry sauce. Their chicken sandwich is huge- very thick but in a good way!! Chicken fingers are a less messy option and equally delicious.

2/13/23 Chicken huh?... maybe next time. I want some Waffle Fries and Fried Okra.
John F.

2/12/23 Upon seeing a sign from my car of Waffle Fries, I was drawn into Hangry Joe's. Upon entering inside the store of Hangry Joe's I saw something I haven't had for a long time. I wanted to try Fried Orkra; as well, as The Waffle Fries. I saw there were a number of other chicken options I would like to try, but I will hold off on this until next week or the following. I will say the Korean Chicken caught my eye; as well, as the Macaroni and Cheese. These will have to be without any kind of spice to it. I dislike spicy food, but my wife loves it. The restaurant apparently started out from Nashville Tennessee, but has now opened its doors in Maryland and Virginia from what I have seen. I have checked to see where else they have opened up, but am sure there a lit of other places. I look forward to trying more of their foods very soon.

How many scoville units is the Angry Hot spice level, and do you really have to sign a waiver for it or is that just a marketing tool?

It's just marketing. They will verbally tell you to be careful though. Can't say how many scoville, but I feel like there is a big jump between hot and angry hot, and wish they had more levels as I'd like it hotter that the hot, but the angry hot…

Do they have anything mild enough for an (older) kid?

I let the employee at the register know I was there to pick up my order. He told me it would be about another 10 minutes, which I completely understood since it was getting busy. Unfortunately, it seemed like he forgot I was waiting. I watched several customers who arrived after me receive their orders before I did. When I finally went back to the register to ask about my order, I was told that my food had apparently been given to other customers. This was extremely disappointing because the order wasn't just for me--it was for my coworkers as well. I ended up spending my entire lunch break waiting for an order that I never received. A mistake like this can happen, but I would have appreciated better communication and more attention to customers waiting for pickup. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and I hope the restaurant improves its pickup process to prevent this from happening to someone else.

She was very nice and helpful with me ordering my food for the first time. Now to the bad part. I've heard a bunch about this place and maybe it was hyped up a lil too much but I was disappointed with the food. I got the classic chicken salad croissant sandwich with couple sides. The broccoli side was pretty good. Tasted solid but I feel like it would be better hot or at least w melted cheese instead of just cold shredded pieces on top. The Mac cheese was just plain cheap microwaved stuff with bland runny sauce n no extra cheese on top. And then the sandwich. I've been obsessed w chicken salad sandwichs (specifically on a croissant) since my older brother used to work at Vie De France back in the 90's. I was excited to try this and it wasn't horrible or even bad but it wasn't great. The croissant was prob the worst part. Its like not a real croissant, it reminded me of something u would get on an airplane. It wasn't flaky and just kinda tastes like white bread. The chicken salad was also mid at best. Very bland and unimpressive Specially at almost 20 bucks for the platter. Maybe I should try one of the other kind. And I will. I'll give this place one more try. Maybe I'll update this then. But for now I do not recommend.

It felt like there were too many workers, too many ordering stations, and not enough actual attention to customers. The basic deluxe burger was disappointing: small, dry, overly salty, and not filling. Most of the other menu items were noticeably overpriced. I actually left and went to Wendy's afterward because I was still hungry. The burger itself was average at best--boring, with very sparse condiments. Cleanliness was another issue. Several tables had salt and food remnants left behind from previous customers. Drinks were overpriced, served in very small cups, and the water option was warm with no ice and even smaller cups. They also had no working internet connection; staff told me to connect to the store next door, but that didn't work either. I didn't see any older or experienced manager on duty, which may explain the lack of oversight and the overall condition of the store during my visit. If they continue operating like this, I don't see how they'll survive in this market.
