I came back here hoping to relive a good experience from years ago, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the memory. The portion size was still solid--the jumbo shrimp were definitely impressive in size--but that's about where the positives ended. Everything lacked seasoning, and I mean everything--even the French fries tasted bland, like they had been completely forgotten in the seasoning department. The shrimp themselves were disappointing too. Instead of being tender and juicy, they were rubbery. The only real flavor came from the cornmeal coating, which isn't saying much when that's doing all the heavy lifting. "You Buy, We Fry" seafood restaurants are (imho) a gift from above, and Hank's is one of the best. I typically order the family meal that includes 10 catfish fillets, 15 shrimp, french fries, and a simple salad. This visit did not disappoint. The fillets were well seasoned, well fried, and consistent in thickness. The shrimp were very good and the french fries have gotten better over the years. Just as important, the owners are friendly and know their customers. It's been a couple of months since my last visit and the owner let me know that she was happy to see me again. Thankfully there were no panhandlers on the premises for this visit. I'd probably drive into the community more often, but for the panhandlers. read more

I heard of rumors of a small place selling great sea food like pappadeaux without the price tag. I was skeptical because the location didn't fit my description but without fear I proceeded anyway. As I walk in I didn't notice a strong fish smell which was a plus. I have walking in other establishment and was mauled by foul smells from the kitchen which made me walk right out. There were four men waiting on orders as I moved towards the cashier. They also have a drive thru if you are in a hurry. After I placed my order for the fried fish, it took about 10 min. Not bad on service and delivery because for 5.50 I got 3 pcs, fries, and salad. Overall, I was impressed with the food and I can't wait to return. This place is good for crawfish. The crawfish were so delicious. Best I've tasted in Houston. The place is clean and has seating so you can dine in. I also tried the fish sandwich which was super delicious. The staff here is ehhh, they aren't rude, they just aren't the nicest. But they're pretty busy so i can see why. After a few days of great meals (Ciao Bello and Haven) I decided to head over to Hank's Fish Market after reading the Houston Press article by Robb Walsh. After a google maps snafu (Search for Hank's Fish Market and not by address "4319 Lockwood") I was in the parking lot and ready to tear into some fish and shrimp. It's in the fifth ward so you'll run into a variety of people, a sign that this place is damn good i suppose lol. Looking at all the stencil prepared poster boards with "Family Special" written on all of them, we decided to go for the 10 Trout and 15 Shrimp special for $15.99 and some fried crawfish tails for $3.99. The Family special came out in a birthday cake box and I felt like it was my birthday after cracking open the top to be greeted by the fresh smell of fried seafood. Opening the box to the crawfish wasnt as eventful though. The trout and shrimp were perfectly fried and wasn't terribly oily. Slap on some hot sauce and tarter sauce and goto town. The three of us consumed 10 large pieces of trout, 15 shrimp, 30 fried crawfish tails, large box of fries and a large "salad" (read iceberg lettuce and french dressing). Great prices for pretty good seafood! Not open Sundays. Its a hot spot small in the hood, so even the smallest order took about 20 mins. They do have a drive through but never used it and dont know if signage is up to date! This place will satisfy your seafood desire for a cheap price. read more

I find an excuse to hit the drive thru at Hank's Seafood in Kashmere Gardens at least a couple of times a month, excluding Lent when it's more often. They serve my favorite catfish in town, at least for a semi fast food joint. And it's as good as most expensive seafood restaurants minus the frills. The catfish is perfectly fried with a light coating and ordered as a 3 piece basket includes fries and a side salad (a tomato slice on iceberg lettuce with french dressing) and a slice of white bread. It's a great deal for less than $5. I can't speak to the rest of their menu because I like the catfish so much that it's all I ever order. I did try a trout basket once, it was very good too but I prefer catfish when I have the choice. The food is cooked to order so don't get in the drive thru if you're in a rush. I had and enjoy their boiled crawfish on my first visit.I dined in They were fresh and hot. When I went the second time I ordered everything ordered on the first visit, I ordered to go. When I got home I was SO disappointed. The crawfish was not fresh. I went early in the day. I think that I got the crawfish from the previous day. They mixed old ones with the fresh ones. You could plainly see the difference. The corn was old and the potatoes were dried out. I live on the other side of town but drove the distance to get some of the good food that I got on the first visit. I will NEVER go there again. If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would've but the minimal is 1 so I guess that'll have to do. I've never had an issue until recently and will not be going back. All I have to say is if you have a large order check your order TWICE before leaving!!! Once when you get it and another after you send it back.
