Shocking deceptive marketing big sign with a 5.99 price for Jarlsberg cheese. In a bin full of by the pound cheese prices. Turns out the price is for a 6 oz piece wrapped in plastic. So the actual per pound price is almost 16 dollars! I barely caught this in the checkout line. Last time I will trust anything g at Hannaford. Time to find a new grocer! read more

My lackluster rating of this location mostly reflects my experiences with the hot bar (not the wing kiosk) in the meat department - though the overall store prices are also less than ideal, even before COVID hit. I have tried getting hot chicken tenders here five times now, over the past year. Four of those five times the chicken was barely room temperature; two of those times they were inedible tubes of tendon and gristle. I have never had either issue, consistently, at any other Hannaford location. I've shopped at many. I have spoken to staff here twice about this issue. The first time was an older man working the counter, who, when I asked how long the hot food stayed under the lamp before being pulled (expecting to hear "four hours"), replied "until close, when it gets refrigerated". Thinking he assumed I meant just the current batch (it was 5:30 PM), I clarified. His answer remained the same, and he looked at me like I was crazy for asking. That ain't right. The second conversation (after I'd sworn off getting hot chicken here), was initiated because I saw a woman actually temp testing the whole birds under the lamp (located right under the tenders). I thought, "finally, signs of quality control!" As we were speaking, a guy behind the counter pulled five bags of tenders off the heat and replaced them with fresh ones. The woman turned to me and said, "Those should be piping hot". I grabbed a bag, ran for the self-checkout (no line) and was in my car in under three minutes. Took a bite...room temp. And a giant finger of tendon (seen in attached picture). I give up - for good, this time. Chickens of the world rejoice. The last Hannaford I routinely shopped at sold hot foods that would burn your mouth, once in the car, if you didn't let them cool for a bit. So, while I don't know what this store's problem is, this is not a insurmountable condition of serving hot foods. read more

I have had multiple horrendous experiences at the pharmacy. The pharmacy techs, who are waiting on people take the brunt of the customers abuse. However, the pharmacy manager is about at useless as an individual can get. I worked in retail for over 30 years, and I never let anyone talk to my staff in that manner. As any good manager would do, I stepped in and either deescalated the situation or had the individual removed. The current manager stays behind his glass enclosure and leaves his employees to fend for themselves. Fortunately, I have found a pharmacy where you don't have to wait 5 plus days for a prescription, and the pharmacist is present and not hiding. Hannaford's has not only lost my business at the pharmacy, I don't even shop at the store any longer. You may believe that this is an isolated incident, but nothing could be further from the truth. I was introduced to my new pharmacy by another unsatisfied Hannaford's customer, and I have told at least 10 others who have now left your inferior pharmacy. As for the other pharmacist on staff the female pharmacist is extremely pleasant and apologetic for delays. However, the other male was so rude to an older woman it was disgusting. Not only did he violate her HIPPA rights, as he clearly stated the medications she was taking. He was also extremely nasty to her, asking her what would you like me to do, all these people are waiting as well. ATTENTION All CUSTOMERS: Find another pharmacy, Amazon is great and their prices are far superior. read more

This grocery store has a great deli and bread/cheese selection/variety of items and has a very convenient/wide range in their liquor section however... DO NOT BUY SEAFOOD FROM HANNAFORD'S GROCERY STORES. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! We first went for some basic mussels because they were close to the house; it's Maine, sort of hard to screw that up right? WRONG. The mussels were mealy, clearly old, and mushy. We then went back to try and get some basic white fish (haddock) for fish tacos. How does one mess that up you ask?? We get home and go to double check for stray bones... There were a few but the WORST? WE FOUND WORMS IN THE FISH. WORMS!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. How, as a worker or fish monger, do you not see that?? Not to mention, now consider that those pieces of fish were in with the rest of the seafood counter items. GROSS!!!!!!!!! While the grocery part of the Damariscotta Hannaford is good, the pharmacy is pretty dysfunctional. I've stood in line for 40 minutes to pick up a prescription. Today, I had a 1PM appointment for a Covid shot. When I got there, I found a line of about 15 people ahead of me. The woman in front had been waiting 40 minutes. So why even pretend that appointments matter? I understand that finding people is difficult. they need to try harder. read more

Re: Hannaford Pharmacy at Damariscotta, Maine: I scheduled for a covid booster 3 weeks ago. I received a call this morning from a nice gentleman saying they are cancelling my appointment that was later today. There was no offer to reschedule, to be put on a wait list, or anything else, just an apology. I would have to re-schedule online as I did before with no allowance given for the 3 weeks I have already waited. I understand they are short staffed, but this is unacceptable. If I had been given notice some time ago that this might happen, I would have attempted to make other arrangements. Now I am that much later in receiving my booster, putting myself and my family at increased risk of life and limb, particularly with the current covid upswing. If they are unable to keep appointments, they need to change their operation. Do not take appointments if they cannot keep them. Pay their employees better. Something! Absolutely unacceptable. Very strange & bad experience today at checkout. When we got to the register, the cashier asked us to take out items out of the basket we had sit on the belt. Several items which were glass. And awkward to carry. Then after ringing us up, she says..."You don't want a bag do you?". Who is training these people? I weep for the future. read more

Shopped here for food and essentials while staying in Maine and found everything we needed (including diabetics items) and fresh vegetables and fruits. Plenty of parking and friendly helpful cashiers and a nice laid back atmosphere and wheelchair accessible, of course! read more

Real decent grocery store up on the Maine coast. Hannaford's is from Maine so you would expect the best here and you do get that. Plenty of parking, good number of checkouts in operations, and all the things you could think you need when up at your cottage. And, even though there are plenty of seafood places about to get fish and the like, the fresh scallops and tuna would be good from here as well. Definitely the place for the main Maine (hehe) food shopping even with the improvements to the Boothbay Harbor store. read more

OMG the people here are so nice and accommodating. Variety of foods is terrific, had everything we needed for staying in our cabin for a month. Pharmacy was also above parr. So there was a fake tree in the middle of the produce section. Honestly I think that is a stupid and moronic way to judge a grocery store. (Like someone before me did) If you are looking for a specific health item (we were looking for nutritional yeast) there is a small health food co op store down the street. The store is poorly organized, and general overpriced. Fresh vegetables are at a premium all winter and good luck getting simple green beans. This place is big. It's the size of some smaller Wal-Marts. The decor for the produce area where you enter the store is one thing that must be highlighted. The two fake trees really made me think that it was not a huge chain on my first visit this year, but them I remembered it's a huge store, part of a huge chain, and it has some huge flaws. They have 40+ sodas but don't carry any italian soda or cane sugar Coca Cola or Pepsi. Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, nope. Barbara's Puffins Cereal, also no. They lack just about every specialty and moderately specialty food you'd want. It's just an inefficient use of space to not carry any specialty foods. For some that lack of specialty foods may be made up by their liquor selection. They have many beers, micro, local, major brands and they have a heavy emphasis on seasonal. They also have a quite respectable selection of lower midrange to low priced wines including the major brands and some smaller ones. The liquor range is decidedly on the low end of the range, they carry Johnny Walker Black Label (no Blue) and Patron Silver only in less than full size bottles. I keep 1.75 liter bottles of both at home and not even seeing half that size is pathetic, especially when they are the primary liquor store in town. The staff are also subpar, having trouble finding their ID Checking book and thusly delaying me by five minutes on the first occasion and 10 on the second. It's not as though I live in another country, just another state. Out of the four staff members I interacted with in these two instances (two people are required to check an out-of-state ID) only one apologized for the delay. This place slips away with two stars because they still perform the job of having everything that a regular grocery store carries, save for a few supposed specialty foods. If you're willing to spend a little more for a better grocery store that is locally owned with nicer employees you should consider Yellow Front Grocery, and for the specialty foods Rising Tide Coop works quite well. read more

So here we were. 10 days in Maine in this neat sea side cottage and now it's time to fill the fridge. Where to go? Hanna who? Never heard of them. But when I get there, it exceeeeeds all of my expectations. First of all, the meat dept was great and cheap! Chicken, beef whatever! And, I'm from the "Peoples Republic of Massachusetts", so I'm not used to being able to buy beer, wine AND Liquor in the same store! Imagine at checkout...Bread, Eggs, Jose Quervo...SHut Up! I love Hannaford overall, but if this had been my first experience I would never shop here again. This is not my normal store, but I was in the area, so I figured I'd get my shopping and prescriptions done while I was there. It was horrible. The produce section, at 11:30a on a Saturday was out of almost everything. The few strawberries left were rotten, the garlic was OUT, the bananas were almost out. Basically there were huge gaps in every section. The two workers weren't exactly moving to get things filled either. One ignored me completely when I tried to ask about the strawberries, the other tried to ignore me when I had a pricing question. And her mention of stocking, by the way, was to tip the entire box of produce upside down and just dump it in the tray. No wonder everything was so bruised up! The variety available at the fish section wasn't much better, despite the fact that this is Maine. However, the case was at least stocked, and the guy at the counter was great. He's the only reason this place gets two stars instead of one. THEN the pharmacy and check out. I got my prescriptions, signed and went to the register, where I put the prescription bag with my groceries as I always do. At every other Hannaford, they simply toss them into one of my grocery bags and I prove I'm not stealing anything. Except apparently this time they didn't. I don't know what happened, but I got home to no meds in my bags, and a message from Hannaford because they'd just been returned to the pharmacy. Okay, things happen. But the pharmacy wanted me to come back and get them. This would have resulted in another hour and a half round trip ride, so I said no thank you, please just cancel the order and refund my money. I'll get them closer to home. They tried to tell me this wasn't do-able. That I had to come back to get a refund too. The lady was incredibly rude and stuck me on hold several times while I was in mid-sentence. I finally told them I would file a complaint with my insurance company and suddenly, MAGICALLY they decided they could give me a refund after all. But they have to mail it. We'll see if ti actually shows up. If you have the option, go to Rockland, or to the little grocery all my friends in the area shop at. Now I understand why they won't do Hannaford. read more

This Hannaford is crazy. Even Bobbi's review doesn't do it justice. The scope of things like gourmet beer, local Maine cheeses, incredible seafood products, and gluten-free stuff in the big "natural" section is just spectacular. Also, great employees and a really nice Maine vibe. I love this Hannaford. Why isn't there something like this in Park Slope? I am actually embarrassed to admit that I do something I call the "Hannaford Dance," that's how happy I am to be at Hannaford. Frozen, gluten free pizza crust? Organic Mirin (rice cooking wine)? Smoked Alaskan Salmon? Organic gluten free cookie dough ice cream? The National Enquirer? Check! Love it! read more

The Hannaford here is amazing. We have a sushi guy, our bread department has local baked bread from Borealis Breads and the rest of the store has a huge selection. I can get lost in our Hannaford for hours. If there is something I need and I can't get it elsewhere in town, I know they will have it there. read more

Hannaford's is a rip-off compared to many other supermarkets. Their sales are a joke and the products they advertise are always the same- i.g. twizzlers and marshmallows. Their bakery is small and their cookies and pies have a mass-produced flavor to them. The company is also not family owned anymore, it is a large Belgium corporation concerned only about the bottom line and not the workers or customers. John R. and Annie S. must have been in a parallel Universe to have written the reviews they did. Vaiety, price, service have in my 20 years of interface with this particular Hannaford's NEVER been in question. Year round their choice of fresh foods, ORGANICS, Seafood, Meats is unprecedented and compares with the best overseas and in the Major Metropolitan areas. This is a huge Hanniford! Just huge compared to the one near me. You can find just about anything you could want. I was vegan for 7 years and it makes me smile to see all the vegan products that they carry. They have a great produce section. Just about anything. I even found collard greens which I was afraid I could no longer get this far north. They have a wonderful cheese section. Just about any kind you can think of. It covers I believe 4 deli cases full. They have a sushi spot with real Japanese people (bad Chinese experience with only non Asian people, don't trust non ethnic people at ethnic restaurants). They even had vegan sushi with brown rice! Meat section has all kinds of stuff as well as the fish, bread and deli sections. Vegans, you are represented in the dairy and freezer sections as well. I remember when daiya was mail order only and veganaise was as well. Health and beauty has all those natural products you could only get at speciality natural stores. This is our splurge store since there is just so much great stuff. read more

I have asked for several items over time (more than a year) via their customer review cards and via email. All have been ignored. Even one of the beer guys said he'd get Gritty's IPA in for me and that didn't happen. They usually don't have enough registers open and when I go to self check out and buy beer it takes forever to get someone over there to check my id (this is when there is ONE "express" (lol) line open with seven people waiting. Their beer prices for a 12 pack change constantly from $13.99 to $18.99. There is way to much "ready to eat" or "heat and serve" stuff. Look at their baking dept - you'd be lucky to find a 25# bag of flour. The cashiers are mostly adequate except when they put some slow (I won't mention who) person In the express lane and it turns into a "slow" lane. Overall the prices are way too high, finding stuff is a pain - there's just too much. The deli people all cut their meats differently - I'll ask for thin and get thick or ask for shaved and get thin. They need to come up with a system like 1 out of 12 so people know what they get if they order it as a 4 or 6. And along those lines - get rid of the "heal" ends. I've had experiences where i ask for a 1/2 # and I'll get 1/4 # from an old dried out end piece and then the person opens up a new one and gives me 1/4 # really fresh stuff - what do you think I'm going to eat? If there's less than a pound save it for the people who come in to buy that for their dogs or other animals. Their one really good department is the meat dept. Those guys are really good, have great product and are very willing to help. And yeah, I agree with the other persons commentary the other staff (not cashiers) wander around in a daze not really doing anything (ie: checking to see if people need help on self check out). They won't help you unless you ask them. If you have lots of money and time then this is the place for you (Mr. Massachusetts). But if you're a local looking to grab some stuff quick and cheap - not the place. I'm going to try to use Yellowfront more. read more

This review is solely for the pharmacy. I actually really like the store for grocery shopping (they have a great and changing wine selection) but the pharmacy is awful! I can't tell you how many times I've had to wait in a ridiculously long line and be treated by a rude cashier at the pharmacy. My husband is there right now trying to pick up a prescription for me and the women told him twice and loudly "15-20 minutes. Maybe more. Maybe less." And that was after he had been waiting for almost 30 minutes! The neighborhood pharmacy closed this year and so our choices in town are limited. I just wish the management would do something about the bad customer service and long wait times at the pharmacy. read more

This Store lets it's Alcohol & Wine take up WAY too much space ! They are better to shop at instead of the Waldoboro Hannaford though. I can see why they get such high marks from the people out of State, But me being a local & shopping at night is no picnic to put it mildly on a regular basis ! They NEVER have enough registers open & they depend to much on the self check outs. I normally have to wait in line in the evening about 15 Minutes, That is way too long & they don't have ANY 14 items or less registers open. I shop at night for my convenience, But the employees don't rush for a thing ! I also think they are over priced on quite a few items. read more
