Great facility with a lots of actitivites and events for all ages from kids to seniors. They have…read morebingo, dance classes, bid whist, water aerobics for adults, day camp for kids, basketball court, swimming sessions and swimming lessons for all ages. The pool and workout room are very nice and they have steam and sauna rooms. The facility also offers an outdoor walking track and outdoor fitness equipment. In the winter, you can workout at the indoor gym which has all of the usual gym equipment. I have to give a special shoutout to Linda at the front desk who was so helpful and informative when getting me and my mom registered. Also Sharon who works in the locker rooms went above and beyond in giving my mom and I a tour of the facilities. We weren't expecting a tour and just asked Sharon for directions and she was so kind in showing us all that the facility has to offer. I am really looking forward to enjoying many activities here!

The DIS is a beautiful community center remodeled from a old grade school…read more The campus is nestled inside of a residential community on the west side of Detroit. The space is filled with nonprofit businesses offering much needed community resources. There is also a gym space, a renovated swimming pool area, which unfortunately no longer houses a pool, but it is now a cool rental space. There's also a convenience store, a Toarmina's Pizza, a community laundry space and a cool arcade inside. I've visited on a number of occasions as the agency I work for has remote offices in the space, offering various resources for the community. It's also a great place to network and meet other Detroiters. The parking lot is sizable and the building is managed by a great company and is secured with guards, inside and out.

It probably is more of a 4 to 4 1/2 star but honestly, when actually comparing it to others, I would give it a five. If I compare it to resale stores, maybe a then a 4. The way it was organized was terrific, and it made things very easy to find. The staff working, there were friendly, helpful, and overall just kind. And the selection of certain items were very good. I would probably say in terms of quantity and overall quality it would depend what you're looking for. Clothing I would probably say is a 3 to 4 star experience based on amount and pricing. But if you're looking for HomeGoods, kitchenware, or other things of that genre, it has a lot to offer. I was particularly impressed that they took the time to label the size and type of the linens. This is not something I've seen done at a thrift store before and it is extremely useful. I actually ended up getting some curtains for my photography business as a result. Normally, I don't take that risk because I can't tell what they might fit like. The linen area was amazing. Highly recommend if you're looking for table cloths, sheets, placemats, etc.. I also was impressed with how they have the jewelry laid out. And it made me think about some of the stuff that I have wanted to donate for jewelry, but I haven't felt comfortable bringing to Goodwill or Salvation Army. I may donate some costume jewelry here soon. Definitely I will be back and I'm so glad I discovered this place today. Well I didn't buy clothes. My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

The steam room and sauna are closed until further notice, and their new hrs are M-Sat: 8am - 2pm & M-F: 4pm - 8pm. They are no longer open early at 6 am, nor do they stay open all day, Saturday's they close at 2, and Sundays they're closed all day.

Was seeking a local gym for classes while visiting the area and came across this place not too far…read morefrom the hotel that we're staying at. So happy I did! Drop in rate is 10.00 per class. A variety of classes are offered 7 days a week but unfortunately this past Sunday's were cancelled due to some special event they had (website's schedule is up to date). To book a class is super easy; choose which class you want and it tells you how many open spots are left. You pay via credit card and receive an email confirmation. Upon arrival you just go to either of the studios where the classes are held. I booked a spin class and the instructor came up to introduce herself and asked my name and said she saw it on her roster. As for the class, it was very good and the instructor (Jill) was super nice and chatted with her a bit after. Facility is very clean and the bikes were in excellent condition. The only con is it is very hard to find as there is no signage indicating where the center is located (you see the theater upon arrival). I stopped and asked what appeared to be some city road/construction workers and one was able to give me directions. Saw the building with a huge parking lot and assumed that was it as I saw some people going in who were in workout gear and carrying gym bags. Once you initially find it you are good to go and know what/where to go.
