Cool logo, cat-style misspellings, overall theme and feel. Superb songbook, and it's posted online…read moreso you can plan ahead. (Try the "kamikaze" button to get random songs, you might find a gem.) The KJ seems cool, and he sings well himself to kick things off. Good drink list, including NA options. Didn't try the food but cool that it's all vegan. You can rent a private room, which might be good with a large group. You could even warm up with your friends in the private room and then move to the public room. We went public only, which gives the thrills and horrors of hearing strangers sing, and also means you get to sing fewer songs since you have to wait your turn. The big drawback here (although I haven't tried many other karaoke places to compare) -- is the poor sound. It's loud and distorted. We left early because our ears were hurting. Another little drawback is the location of the main screen -- if a singer faces it, his or her back is to the audience! There are smaller screens to look at so you can face the audience.

This was a Friday night and I got to have two completely different experiences in one night. First of all, I first went to a karaoke spot in the way way back... like 2005. Back then karaoke was not really A thing...sure, some folks did it but ask all your friends and maybe 1 in 10 will actually go and then it would be questionable if they would actually put a song in and sing it. Fast forward to now, 20 years later and most of your friends might be down. With that said, I no longer enjoy going to most karaoke places because it is usually a bit over the top. The sound is terrible and a lot of people are just beyond drunk. My friends scheduled the private room from 6-8pm and, again, this was on a Friday. It was challenging to get across town during that time of day but having the empty bar was so wonderful. I get nervous going into over crowde9d spaces so this really was nice. I was late so they were already singing up a storm. Catching up was no sweat. The website is so easy to navigate to add songs to the playlist. I also loved that almost every song I sang is not a song that is on just about any other karaoke list. I am a big fan of songs that are not the popular stuff. I have actually discovered songs in the past I never heard of before because someone sang it at karaoke. I also have tried out things before and realized with great humility that I will not sing that again. Just to clear things up...I am NOT Beyoncé. After our room time was up and we discussed things, we decided, as a group to just move into the main room. We grabbed a long section of tables at 8pm, knowing that the main karaoke starts at 9pm. We discovered that this is the best way to do this. We had such a great time just relaxing and having conversations, getting a drink and plotting our next singing session. There was quite a few "regulars" and you can usually tell the regulars at a karaoke bar. These are the best and we felt so welcome and included. Amazingly inclusive, in every sense of that word. From 9pm to midnight I was able to sing 4 times and had such a great time.

We ordered margaritas and sat at the bar, then ordered chips and guacamole while we decided if we were ready to commit to a meal. Great guac, warm chips, good stuff. Later ordered another round and meals. I got the chicken fajitas. Excellent. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the veggies were cooked just right, lots of flavor. Good tortillas. It was enough food for two, but I valiantly consumed most of it myself. When they brought the check, they asked if it was the first time for us, and gave us a 10% discount on the tab. Can't argue with that. This place is great, more people should know about it.

I was curious about what took over the old La Cucaracha space. I had chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. It came with beans and rice, but it didn't come with some of the other things common to fajitas (like pico, sour cream, and guacamole) The chicken was well spiced and delicious. The salsa and chips were good. Salsa tasted hand made. I asked for a side of guacamole, and they whipped it up fresh. It was simple and tasty. The space is clean and looks ready for groups of family and friends. I'm coming back.

Restrooms are acceptable. Drinks are maybe avg-slightly overpriced. Not sure what happened but, if you're expecting a patio or rooftop or any kind of outdoor area within the confines of the club itself, you will be displeased that they no longer exist, for whatever reason (as well as the food cart). I was extremely nice and polite to her the entire interaction and not bothersome at all just asked for a drink and the attitude and nastiness was genuinely insane. I watched her be very rude to other customers after me who did literally nothing except ask please and thank you for drinks and give her their card. Beyond weird. She treats guests like she hates them and their whole families. I went alone and I just moved states here and it just ruined my time there and made me feel horrible. I have no idea why such a hateful person would choose to have a customer service job and why no one has done anything about her but this was really weird and not ok.

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

We came to Teardrop Cocktail Lounge while visiting Portland and were genuinely impressed…read more The cocktails were excellent -- thoughtful, well-balanced, and clearly made by people who know what they're doing. One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.
