Well since may my Toyota has been down.I had suspected it was the transmission that went out since drive is neutral and only reverse really works. Called all around anchorage to see who would rebuild Toyota transmissions, pretty much no one. I was suggested hansens transmission by the transmission shops I had called and various people. Hansens said bring it by end of June and they'll start on it July 5th. I was on the slope and called them on July 5th to get an update and they said they're so busy they will start working on it first week of august. So first week of august rolls by and I call them again for an update and they still haven't worked on it. The 2nd week of august rolls by and I get an update saying the transmission is fine, but the rear diff exploded. So I authorized them to replace it while I was on the slope (repair was 3000$) didn't care for the price, I know I could have done it cheaper myself but I just wanted it done by the time I get off the slope because my time is valuable. I got back from work august 26th and went to go pick up the truck. I got the keys and went to go start it and when I went to go out it in drive, drive wasn't working. It would just rev up and not move. The dash was also lit up like a Christmas tree, and the rear differential locker was stuck on in 2 wheel drive. In Toyotas the rear locker only supposed to be on in 4 wheel drive. So I went to go inform them about everything, and they said "oh we thought you had all that stuff disabled cause you have it set up for off-roading" and I was like uhhhhhh no it wasn't like that when I dropped it off. Then they said they were going to forward futher diagnostics to their partner to dig into it more. On September 26th so another month, they finally looked further into it and they had said the rear inferential control module is bad, and the transmission is bad. But hansens told me it was fine in the first place. After being told the transmission was bad, they said they wouldn't work on it and said "no more foreign vehicles" but they didn't even Touch it and gave a bad diagnostics and now I'm out 3000$ and to make it even better, I got laid off during this whole process. I recently brought in a C6 for an older F250 plow truck. The trans was completely trashed, the converter was coming apart and shredding everything. They offered the best price for a bench-top rebuild w/ a new converter and had it back to me in a few days. Every time I called and every person I talked to there was nice, honest, and delivered great service. My truck is now solid and runs like a champ. I will definitely use them again for other projects and refer others to this shop. They do a lot of race car work too. Great service! read more

Hansens Transmission and Gear is a 300 mile drive from where I am. I was in the Anchorage area a week or so ago taking care of some business on short notice. I had been thinking about getting my transmission serviced for a while as I'd never had it looked at since I bought my truck. I own a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins Diesel. It was already late in the morning when I thought about getting it serviced. I didn't think even with some pleading that they might take me the same day. But I told one of the owners "Jennifer" on the phone where I had traveled from and that I didn't have much time. Jennifer was great, she said bring it in right now we'll make room for you. I got there 40 minutes later and her mechanic "Eric" came out saw me then took my vehicle right into a bay he made ready for me. While I waited for Eric to evaluate my tranny, Jennifer showed me pictures of her and her husband "Chris" projects "race cars" and monster trucks. Chris is the other owner and was busy working on a bench with some parts so I didn't speak with him very long. They were very friendly and I could tell these folks were the old school type "get er done" shop. Definitely NOT a corporate look garage, but a place that looks like real work gets done there. Eric came out to see me about my truck and said the tranny fluid was bad as I had guessed and that it hadn't hurt the tranny but I caught it just in time. He said I needed a new gasket on the rear differential it was leaking so I had him change it and all the fluids. I was probably a hour that I spent there but. The owners made the time pass by sharing photos and conversation about what extra things they were always doing so it was a nice visit and when Eric completed his work he came around and talked with me so I had no worries and shook my hand. You don't get that everywhere these days. The whole day was quite a interesting experience and the service fees were very reasonable. I'll be going back in the time they described for my next check up, and I'd suggest this place to anyone. I'm also happy to leave this review. read more

I've had my truck into Hansen's five times over a transmission replacement. I have been flat out lied to on more than one occasion. Two weeks ago I took my truck back into them because it was shifting strange, they told me that I had to take it to another shop to have the check engine light taken care of before they could do the repair. The check engine light was do to an evap sensor, which is completely unrelated to the transmission. The truck made it approximately 6 miles before it left me stranded in the road. (Do to a transmission bearing that should have only been 4 months old (if it was really replaced when they rebuilt it) I had it towed into Hansen's, where it sat for 5 days without as much as a phone call. I got a call on Thursday (to my phone number) saying my truck would be done on Friday and they would call when it was ready. I received no call on Friday, despite their staff insisting that they left a message. Apparently their not familiar with communication technology and think that they can just "say that they called". I left two messages on Monday, no return call. I called at 10:30am on Tuesday to have a guy tell me that my truck was ready and had been since Friday. He said that "Paul" had called and left me a message. When I arrived at the shop a lady (not Paul) insisted that she called and left a message, but it was to my wife's phone number. I pulled out my wife's phone with call log and voice message records and asked her to show me when she had called. Of course she could not. Perhaps I should have known better than to take my truck to a business who obviously doesn't reinvest their profits into their company. I prefer to support Alaskan owned business, apparently I need to be more critical of who I choose. I hope this review helps save someone the trouble of dealing with inferior workmanship and non existent customer service. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! read more
