I've read a ton of bad press on tire shops so on the advice of one of our new Anchorage friends, that we trust, we brought our new snow tires to L&M for installation. Other places had us calling them every day for an opening or waiting until the end of November. L&M got us in in three days. We arrived exactly at 3:00 on Tuesday as the snow is just starting. Whew! Maybe it should have been a warning sign when the tech walked back into the office (35 min into our appointment) and asked how he's supposed to work on a BMW when Honda keys are attached to the work order? That took you a half hour??? The super sweet Christine (who makes a killer cheesy potato soup) quickly found our work order and our 3:00pm job now has a 3:45 start. The car was finished in about an hour, as quoted. Plus, at twenty dollars per tire, it would appear a successful visit, thank you to my friend! Wait! Successful up until we were on the road again, approaching Tudor on "C" street. Wobble, wobble and off comes the left rear tire and lodges sideways under the axle. The freakin' tire came clean off! It's Tuesday, 5:00pm rush on our first seriously ice covered road this season. Now we're staring at the Bear Paw bear on the corner with only three functioning wheels on the ground. But thankfully, no one was hurt. Naturally, we called L&M who called a wrecker and carried us back to the shop. At L&M's expense. Having no loaner vehicles, they then sent us home in a cab. Again, on their dime. The following morning our car was first on the rack and all repairs were made. Once more, no charge. In fact, our initial $80 for tire service was refunded and L&M paid for our return cab ride. I spoke to Michael, the owner, and he confirms that they not only double checked/repaired the problem wheel, but they also rechecked the bonehead's (my term, not his) work on the other three. Tragic in some eyes, irresponsible in the eyes of others, inconvenient in mine. Mistakes are made in this world. I get that. This is one area they are not excusable. Burn my steak and you can always make another and we're all good. A serious accident happens due to neglect on my car, that could've have been a catastrophe. One maybe you don't recover from. To sum up. A huge unacceptable mistake was made. But this group bent over backwards to accommodate. They sent the cavalry to rescue us, secured our safe transport home and back then double checked all the work done to the vehicle. They waived all charges and paid all expenses. Equally as important to me is each of them offered a sincere apology even though only one person botched the job. I normally give local businesses a few chances before totally cutting ties. In my book this is a stand up organization that will get my future business and deserves four stars. 10/22 read more

I've been bringing my vehicles to L&M motors for 20 years. Today, I brought my vehicle in for a standard oil change and was charged $327.48. They charged me $32 a quart for the oil and $54 in labor. The last time I got my oil changed it cost me $170, so I feel like I'm being price gouged. Since the prior owner sold the business, things have gone way downhill there. I went in looking to get my Radiator Flushed and Found out there were a few more issues with My Car as it needed a few Hoses to fix my issue and Although I did not have the Funds for the complete Fix they were able to Fix One Issue and I made another appointment for them to finish my Car but as Always they pulled thru and got it that Fixed. Now keep in mind they are very busy and so they may not be working on just 1 vehicle at a Time as I was there from 9am to almost 1pm. But they Do quality Work and their estimates are a nice value as it prepares you for the Just in case scenario if it's more or less. But I'd HIGHLY recommend them All your Service Needs. read more

This is the third tire-change shop I've been to and, so far at least, maybe the third time's a charm?! First place I used to use was Alyeska Tire. I bought my winter tires from them. Their process is pretty annoying, it goes like this: 1) Show up 30 min to an hour before they open. 2) Hope they can squeeze you in. 3) Take a Lyft back to work. 4) Take a Lyft back to Alyeska Tire. 5) Pickup your vehicle. It's nice knowing it will probably get done if you wake up early. It's not nice knowing you can go ahead and add +$30 to the cost because you'll need a shuttle to/from Alyeska as they will have your car all day. I can no longer go to Alyeska though, as they had my car all day then couldn't get a hold of a 4th tire, so they forced me to drive around on 3 snow tires and 1 regular tire for the weekend, and told me not to go very far. I had to cancel an ice climbing trip I had planned because of them. I did this 6 mornings in a row for a grand total of 2 hours of my life hitting the redial button on my phone. If I'm going to waste time, I may as well go the old school route and show up early. What is the point of an appointment if it takes 2 hours of your life to make an appointment? (Cynosure) The woman working the counter was friendly and funny. So great to finally find a low-stress tire change shop that doesn't waste my time! When we connected he was rude, nasty and refused to take ANY accountability for the issues despite them being the ONLY shop to touch the car. He won't honor his own warranty. so I don't know where to start. My son needed work on the truck he saved while in HS to buy. this shop told him to tow it over and since other shops were booked, we towed it over there but then it sat for several weeks before they even looked at it! in the end their bill went to $2000 then to about $4000 then to $6835 and the truck still had issues! My lost ALL his money in this truck and the shop didn't tell him that it needed a new engine until after they took $6835 from a young inexperienced person. He had to sell it. For a mere $1500 after spending around $12000-14000 (original cost plus new tires and minor repairs and the almost 7000 to L&M!). And I was just told this by the person who bought it " "On another note, I wouldn't take anything to the mechanic that worked on that truck. The drain plug was so tight we couldn't get it removed. Then the oil filter was the tightest I've ever seen. It broke my tool that I've used on every oil change the last 10 years. I ended up having to take the fan and shroud off and buy 2 different tools to finally get it off. Probably took me 4 hours to get that thing off. Sadly I was able to confirm that the motor does have silver flakes in it. Looking deeper into the motor it's also missing bracket and bolts everywhere. Most of the electrical connectors are also broken. There's a big one over by the battery that the retainer clip is missing and it comes undone and the truck doesn't start. This was probably why your son said that it wouldn't start. It only started because I put in a good battery and wiggled that connector just right. I had to wiggle it to get it to start then I got home. I would caution you to not take anything else to the mechanic that worked on this truck. " I feel like my kid got ripped off by this shop. If they didn't know what to do or how to fix they needed to tell him upfront or do a good inspection first. And the owner gets angry and will probably write back blaming my kid. I don't know anymore. I just know my son lost ALL the money he had due to this truck and I'd think a good shop will let you know not to proceed and wont just keep taking money for something they can't fix. read more

I called to ask why I want told of the alignment problem and the lady was rude and defensive even after I told her I know you guys didn't break my car. So again. Horrible service performed. And horrible customer service given To answer you mr question on how to make it right. First. Talk to your tech who let me leave without him give my car a test drive. Second talk to your front desk person. I called and Informed her of this mishap. She was rude and defensive. Even after I said I know you guys didn't mess the car up. I talked to her today. She said she doesn't remember my call to tell her about me leaving and my car was still broke. So that is on her for not putting a note on my account or informing you of this mistake. Needed radiator replaced. Said they would get me in and out Monday same day. Carried over til Wed. Called saying they couldn't find replacement. I was losing time and manager guy got pretty snippy so i decided to take it somewhere else. I was nervous about having them put it back together properly since the tone of the business was not the most professional. Receptionist admonished me not to drive my car though it drove fine before. It barely made it to the next shop. Lots of under handed comments made when picking up and very bad vibe in the shop and no eye contact. They had only put water in the coolant and the new shop had to add 2.5 quarts of transmission fluid in. So did they put water in there and water in the power steering? The new shop said that their was also a leak in the AC Condenser, which was not discovered by Dodge dealership and not mentioned by L&M. Got both changed and now it stops while driving. Next stop transmission. It's tough finding a shop with integrity I don't recommend these guys at all. My mistake and its about to really cost me. read more

SSCAMMERS, fraudulent BS. 03 Tahoe, told them I had a leak from the transfer case and transmission was slipping from 1st to 2nd. The guy told me they'd see what they can do. 2 days later he tells me they can't diagnose internal transmission issues and they aren't going to do the transfer case seal. 150 dollars for "diagnostic", I told the pink haired lady at the desk that you just told me you can't diagnos it. She clutched my keys away from me and pushed the bill closer while saying "sorry honey". They didn't check computer codes, nothing. They took my truck in KNOWING they couldn't diagnose it and charged me anyways without doing anything. The giant "Full service garage" on the shop is a lie. read more

Took my car too them for a new engine and was told by Mike they could get me in on October 3rd and he was going to order the part and have it ready . Come The day of my appointment they had not Scheduled me or even bothered to order my Part . Spoke to a very Rude lady and apparently I was "oh that Jeep " and was told then. That if it pleases me they will go and pick up my vehicle and have someone call me back . Two days later I get a call about what needed to be repaired and was told they still haven't ordered the part from north west and that I needed to wait 2 weeks to have it deliver and repaired . Not a single call from this shop In that time frame . Once the part was delivered I was told a 12 hour job and it would be ready on Friday and that never happened. North west auto parts delivered my part and they just sat on my vehicle for 3 days before they took the old motor out and put the new one in . Called Friday to check on my car and the very rude front desk lady told me it was now a 22 hour job and I too wait till the following week . Paid this awful shop 6400 bucks for them too sit around and not fix my car . Nothing like picking a car up and having to find out they didn't do the check list on my coolant levels and drove off with now no heat . Mike called me and tells me "oh sorry " my technician assumed you knew there was a issue . When I never had the issue and it was blowing perfect heat before they tore it apart and bandaged it back . Don't waste your time going here. They may have been good at one time but they are no longer. Yes they have the BBB banner, and have given money to little league sports but the service and experience is very bad. Went in there and 7:30 am with an appointment this January 2024 from an hour drive out of town and nothing got done when I finally drove back out at 5:30 pm. My vehicle was there all day and when I came back to the shop at 4 pm no one had done anything, nor did anyone know to do anything. They brought the vehicle in the shop finally after realizing I was there to see what had been found and fixed, but the mechanic had to leave for his other job and was not able to do anything. They don't have any organization and the mechanics (mostly) are not the quality of personnel you want working on your vehicle that drives your family in safety. The office manager has no concept of the daily workings of the shop. Kids, grandkids, dogs running around, slovenly maintenance personnel, mechanics smoking in the service areas at their work stations. For the hour or so I was in there in the morning and for an hour or so I was in there in the late afternoon. In the afternoon I saw enough to get the picture. (And truthfully realized I had lost en entire day of my time but at least they had not worked on my vehicle, I had lost all confidence in their maintenance ability). Particularly in the later afternoon when the boss goes home. That is also when customers return to pick up their vehicle. Most customers I observed had an issue and were not super happy about the service. This is also the time the mechanics come waltzing back and forth through the customer area and you can see what goes on when the shop doors open, and the kid, grandkids and all go cruising between the work area and shop area. Not such a good thing. Bottom line; very interested in getting you in the door and making money. Service, not so much. Every time they answered the phone when I was there; "we had a cancellation and can fit you in"! It is too bad this maintenance outfit in Anchorage is so slipshod; L&M Motors. I wish I did not have to post this negative rating but I am taking the time to help the next guy. I did call and nicely explained to the owner the next day, he listened but gave me the bums rush. read more

We have been customers with L&M for over 20 years. Recently, my wife had a screw puncture her tire so she called a mobile tire service but they were unsuccessful in removing the tire from our 2007 Tundra. They also said the tire was unrepairable and we would need to replace all 4 tires. My wife called L&M and they were able to fit us in on very short notice. Tom the mechanic who's worked on many of our vehicles including our GLK 350 Mercedes, Ford Escape, FJ cruiser etc. His humorous matter of fact style and innate ability to quickly diagnose any problem and get you back on the road is very calming and reassuring. After all was said and done $12.60 was the bill for repairing the puncture, removing the rim and using some sealant to prevent the rim from rusting to the vehicle again. ****Changing a tire sounds easy but after trying to Chuck Norris that tire off the vehicle didn't work and the mobile tire service using a sledge hammer didn't work it was definitely not your typical tire changing experience.**** L&M always makes you feel right at home and are among few mechanics that don't charge book rates. Only shop in town that knew how to install a rebuilt tranny on an older BMW 635csi. Their competitor across the street took months to make no progress on my car, but Mike and L&M took care of me in a matter of days. The second time I came in, they found a fuel leak that I was smelling right away. I was sent on my way an hour later with a new fuel line installed. OVERFILLED OIL!!!! Had bad experiences with companies before (Auto Service Co in Fbks), with "mechanics" adding too much OIL TO THE ENGINE (overfilled). No different here. May.20,2016, brought my car in for oil change (brought my own OIL and FILTER). Good points: Their counter lady (service tech), and owner (Mike) both were courteous at the beginning (didn't care for their attitudes latter) Oil change done quickly. Bad: My Dad told me long time ago, NEVER leave a auto repair shop without first looking under the hood to see if all is where it should be (dip sticks, oil filler cap, radiator cap etc etc), and if an OIL CHANGE was done, CHECK THE OIL LEVEL before you drive away. I did check my oil and it was OVERFILLED. The BOOK that comes with every NEW VEHICLE says "DO NOT OVERFILL". I had placed the Mobile 1 synthetic OIL and my new OIL filter in the front passenger seat. The guy who changed my oil put all four quarts in my vehicle, which IS overfilling it!!! After I told them that they overfilled it they tried to assured me that the little amount over "wouldn't hurt" it. Which I know to be a lie. Doesn't matter if they intentionally lied or not, I know you NEVER overfill the OIL. No amount of "it will be ok", or attitude towards me (as if I'M the one with the problem) is going to make me changed my mind. DO NOT OVERFILL!! DO IT RIGHT THE FIST TIME, or don't expect a return visit. Know what I mean? I've been using L&M for a number of years. I normally do my own work, but bought an aftermarket warranty with a used truck back in the early 2000's. They did a bit of work (eventually) finding a factory defect. More recently I had a head gasket issue that was more than I had time to address. They do great engine work, and stand behind their work if there are any follow up issues. They're not cheap, but they do quality work. read more

Josh the mechanic was very nice and explained everything to me. He was great! The only thing I want to mention is that I had 3 tire sensors in my glove box but they wanted to use their own. Took a car I was interested in buying here for a pre-buyers inspection. While it took longer than the estimated time they gave me (was supposed to be an hour took an hour and a half instead) they made up for it with their great customer service and honest opinion. They were very straight forward with me about what the vehicle was worth which contradicted what the owner claimed it was worth. Their honesty helped reveal the vehicle owner's dishonesty. On fifteen thousand mile trip with our 2014 Ford F150 with camper on back. No problems but needed and oil change. I called around the Anchorage Metro looking for a company that could do the oil change without bleeding me dry for being a tourist in July. L&M took the details on the phone, gave me an estimate, and invited me in. I made the appointment fit our schedule. The L&M office was staff was friendly but told me exactly like it was. So, I had them do the oil change and it worked out well. I always double check other people's work when I'm headed into the bush. They re-attached the drain plug, splash guards, and bash pans tightly, no oil mess around the filter and no trace of sloppy work. Got what I asked for and paid a fair price. read more

This place sucks! Brought the car in for an oil change and we started to notice there were oil leaks on the floor. So we opened the hood and found out they FORGOT to put the cap back on! I will not pay someone who cannot get this simple thing right to work on my car. They did not offer a refund, just told me to bring car back so they can take a look at it. However, I just don't trust them, I would rather have someone else work on it instead of giving them another chance, not someone who nearly ruined my engine. read more

Horrible service and possible scam!! I put a car there for a buyer's inspection. The car had a little back-fire but not in a way that prevented driving. It also had a 'go to service' light that lit for few seconds and then went off. We put the car there for the inspection and waited for the result. When the mechanic came to tell us the results he only said 'minor issues' and the lady that runs the auto shop shouted at him saying only she tells the results. Then she started to blow up some issues recommending fix aggressively. After we left the auto shop the car went way more roughly than it did before and the 'go to service' light was on constantly. I really think they 'fixed' so we'd come back for fix. STAY AWAY! read more

There has been 2 different times when I brought my cars in for tune-ups and both times they had the cars lifted, looked at and BOTH times didn't charge me a cent since it was their honest opinion that my vehicles didn't needed to be tuned up. I would never ever EVER go here for any maintenance work, buyers inspection, or even for just a quote. They are COMPLETELY UNSAFE and total crooks. I took a car that I was selling, here, for a buyers inspection and not only did they quote the two elderly ladies planning to buy the car, with over $2500 worth of work (untrue because it was previously checked by another mechanic) but they also broke the brake drum and brake shoe, notated it on the inspection form, and then crammed the pieces back in there. They tightened the lugs so tight that my mechanic had to use a four foot bar and an hour to get them off. Brett, the manager, notated that the car was not safe to drive, gave the sheet to the potential buyers, and then sent my 17 year old daughter driving down the road with the car without telling her that it was unsafe. I asked the owner, mike, to give me a call, and upon discussing with him how unbelievably unsafe it was to have my daughter drive away with a car that they shoved a bunch of pieces that they broke off into, he hung up on me! I now have to take him to court for the damages he caused. I am beyond disappointed in this company. Don't ever go here! My daughter could have crashed with what they did! Brought a used car into L&M for a buyer's inspection based on Yelp and Car Talk's Mechanic's Files. Seems like the shop may be at capacity with the amount of cars it serves, so there's a bit of a frenetic energy at the front desk, but Mike (the owner, I presume) is incredibly helpful. Despite the fact that he seems to be overseeing all of the work at the shop and keeping everyone else on task, he takes the time to talk to customers and share as much of his knowledge as they'd like. That's rare in a mechanic. He gave us the different levels of Bluebook values for the car and offered to do so over the phone for any other cars we looked at. He also priced out what he thought the car was worth, factoring in the possibility of further issues with the car. L&M seems like a mechanic shop only interested in doing an honest day's work. They aren't cheap, but they deliver. Better than going with a cheap garage while always wondering if you *really* needed that work to be done...or whether your car will seize up on the freeway. read more
