Came to Hanu BBQ on a Sunday evening for some AYCE with the homies, and surprisingly this place was DEAD. Like... where everybody at?! Honestly though, that worked out perfectly for us because the service was ON POINT! First time here and I was impressed. The servers stayed checking on us, bringing out meat, replacing things, and making sure we were good. I love good service, especially at AYCE because there's nothing worse than being all-you-can-eat but you're sitting there waiting all-you-can-wait. The meat quality was bomb too! No frozen, frost-bitten pieces looking like they just came back from Antarctica. Everything came out at a nice temperature, looked fresh, and tasted good. The sides were delicious too. Honestly, I like this place better than Manna.... Yeah, I said it. Only downside is NO DESSERT! Manna got them beat there. After destroying Korean BBQ, sometimes you need that little sweet treat to tell your stomach, "Okay bro, we're done now." Overall, Hanu is definitely one of the better Korean BBQ spots I've tried in South Bay. Good meat, good sides, GREAT service, and on a Sunday evening we basically had the place to ourselves. My husband wanted to stop by here after we attended church in the morning. We arrived around 1:45 in the afternoon and it wasn't crowded, but there were at least four different tables filled with customers. I got on the Yelp waitlist and the wait was less than five minutes. By the time we got to the front after parking, I went to check in with the host, and he was able to see us right away. There was one other family ahead of us of four and they were seated a couple tables away from us. We ordered the regular all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue package. We ordered sides that included our staple items: kimchi, small bowl of rice, japchae noodles, potato salad, vegetable, vegetables, and this time I tried pickle/cucumber kimchi. The servers were really customer service friendly, and they seated us and took our order and drink order right away. They still have canned sodas here, but I like that they give you a glass of ice to pour it into. The highlight of our visit was that they now have two robots serving side items to customers. So you order it with the actual server and then about 5 to 6 minutes later the robot comes to deliver it. Please see my video of this awesome new feature here. There are two serving robots right now, but I can absolutely see them expanding to 3 to 5 in the future as the place has a big dining area. Overall, our food was delicious. All of the cuts of meat we received were perfect and I absolutely love their Bulgogi at this location. It is seasoned well and very flavorful. They also cut back on the amount of fat that they serve you in the meat. One thing different about our visit is that we did not eat the corn cheese this time. Came here last night with a huge group and the service was amazing! The inside of the restaurant is really spacious, and I noticed they have outdoor seating too. It was some of our first time here and we all really liked the different cuts of meat they offer on the regular menu. My favorite was the marinated short rib! Super flavorful and the meat was so tender after cooking. Our whole table kept ordering more lol. Their banchan was really good too, which honestly surprised me because I feel like at most KBBQ places, the banchan can be hit or miss. Hanu Korean BBQ in Chula Vista is, by far, one of the most authentic Korean BBQ experiences I've had. The quality of the meat is outstanding, with premium cuts that make every bite worth it. Even though it's an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurant, the quality never feels compromised. The entire restaurant is beautifully designed, spotless, and has a modern, welcoming atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation. My good friend and I got lucky walking in early on a Saturday, but I wouldn't count on that during peak hours. The service was outstanding our drinks were constantly refilled, the staff was attentive, and everything arrived quickly. Everything was perfect. The cuts of meat were exceptional, and all of the Korean side dishes were amazing. The kimchi was absolutely fire and one of the highlights of the meal along with the sides. Parking can be a little challenging, but it's a small inconvenience that's easily overlooked once the food starts hitting the table. Five stars. My fiancé, sister and I decided to come here on August 30. The food was okay, definitely not the best for the price point. Service was subpar. But what really ruined our experience. Was when I bit into their pork bulgogi and felt something extremely hard. I thought it *might* be bone? But as soon as I spit it out, it was a CURLED (2in) METAL WIRE. It had some white plastic around it, so I knew exactly what it was. When I brought it up the the manager (or server, idk they never introduced themselves) they just said "oh, wow" "I'm sorry" in the most bland tone. When I asked them what it could be and how it even got into the food, they confirmed my suspicions and stated that it was the wire that secures/ties up the bags of meat they use. Kind of like bread loaf wiring. I guess I'm glad at least the child next to us didn't end up eating it it instead... I couldn't get a picture of it but here's what I do have: - I'm never looking for a free meal. But I felt that in this case, we had only been there to eat a couple of items. This ultimately ruined our experience, so we wanted to leave. The guy who "helped" us said that the BEST they could do was take off ONE "AYCE". At that point I might as well have paid it in full... *see receipt* - The next thing that didn't sit right with me was how he looked at my clearly underage sister. And said "I can give you an ice cream". Seriously? After I almost digested a metal wire??. THEN he asks almost immediately afterwards. "Would you like a bottle or soju??"... it almost felt like adding insult to (what could've really been) injury. We said no multiple times, although he kept insisting. I have become quite fond of Hanu, especially when I do not want to drive all the way up to Convoy. And thank goodness for it, because it is difficult to find a Korean BBQ in South Bay. Hanu is located near Otay Ranch, which means it is surrounded by many other restaurants and local eats. Its a great place to go for dinner or lunch, especially on the weekend, in the middle of running errands. Overall, the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. And I find that both the variety and quality of its meats and vegetables are consistently good. My favorites include the salad (I sometimes choose Hanu because I am craving the house salad), the brisket, ribeye (which is massive), the beef tongue and all the banchan. I find that everything is always fresh and plentiful. A few tips: Get here early because it gets packed, especially on the weekends. There can be an hour long wait. Parking is relatively easy with a large parking lot for the entire shopping area. And they have a weird rule: no singles. You have to come with at least one other person if you want to dine here. Whether you're a longtime Korean BBQ fan or a newcomer to the experience, Hanu is a great option right in the South Bay. read more

About $40 pp for AYCE, worth it! Good customer service provided by Leo who was friendly and attentive. Lots of options for the regular AYCE menu, we didn't feel the need to pick the premium menu. Favorite meat was the bone-in marinated short ribs which was juicy and had great flavor. Favorite side was the japchae. Sides are served by a robot who arrives to your table and waits for you to complete the drop off by tapping the touchpad to indicate that you grabbed all your sides. I wish they served fountain drinks with comp refills but I do appreciate that their menu indicates that their sodas are canned. I've also been to other kbbq places that offer more options to create your dipping sauce too. These things would've made for a better experience but overall, we enjoyed our meal and I'm glad there's a good kbbq spot so close to home! read more

We ordered the following items: Galbi Bulgogi Chicken bulgogi Brisket For sides we got: Veggies to grill Cheese corn Steamed egg Kimchi fried rice Regular white rice Tofu soup Rice paper Everything came out fast. The kids enjoyed the robots dropping off our sides. Our grill was changed at least 3 times. Service was pleasant. Only negative thing was that the meats were a bit too salty for our liking. The reception person assumed we were with the other person who walked in first and assumed without asking. We just stood there waiting until I informed him we are not together. Only checked on us three times during the whole time and our waitress gave us a dirty look they also didn't adjust the heat at all so it was constantly burning. But when we ordered all of them, we never got the assorted vegetables. We were told in a snarky tone that the assorted vegetables are the three on there. Awesome..... The workers seem like they would rather be anywhere else than here, and they definitely do not want to serve you. They have such little variety of actual cookable sides it's ridiculous. Over the past 2 years I've visited this restaurant over 6 times since it's the only KBBQ located in Chula Vista area, other than Manna. That was when it was $30 per person for regular. Now the price is $36 - $43 per person which is honestly not worth it anymore. In my visit I had a group of 3 and we were excited as we didn't have KBBQ in a few months. The meat quality has gone down so much and it made me and my party disappointed/ lost our appetite. The meat was so chewy and it tasted-- not fresh. Some bites we could even taste like maybe soap or cleaning chemicals? It might have been in our head, but we tried to eat more and we couldn't. We went around opening time and there was only 2 other parties seated at this time. Adding on, the service was a let down as the servers were not attentive at all, they left our empty plates from meat just on the table stacking up. Now if the restaurant was busy, we would understand, however we were there during opening time and barely any one was in the restaurant! Not only that, our server asked if we were done when we were eating and he turned off our grill, then walked away. We meant that we were done and needed our check as well. He just walked away... so we had to flag down a different server and we were helped. No doubt the servers are nice, just not attentive to the restaurant. Overall this place is not bad, but it's not good either. It's a very happy medium. Let's start off with the good. The sake bombs were only $4.50. Yes you read that right. Half a cup of sapparro with a shot of sake on the side. This is probably the cheapest place i have found alcohol to actually be super affordable and FUN ! Another cool feature is the robot that comes around and drops off your side orders. This thing is so cool and the presentation was awesome. The service was exceptional, staff were very quick and attentive . Now onto the bad. This place was pretty dirty and kind of beat up. Im talking about stains on the wall, pieces of the wall coming off and exposing the steel beams, sticky floors and lots of messes and drip stains on the floor. The cuts of the meats were also mediocre. The best thing on the menu was the Hanu top blade steak. The bulgogi was lacking flavor, the spicy bulgogi was overspiced, and most of the meats did not taste like they had the greatest quality. The sides were good, i feel thats really hard to mess up, my favorite is the japchae (glass noodles). The best part about this place is its affordability. Been here quite a few times and each time has been great so far - despite some low star reviews. Love the food and most of the time it's pretty lean and generous servings, after all it's AYCE. I love their side dishes and we always have a bottle of Soju. Service was good and they always were attentive and we didn't have to wait long for everything. The music wasn't as loud as a year ago but that's great do we can have a conversation, the parking is open and easy. Really great place! Went with my husband and mother for a lunch and we had a great time. The meat were good cuts and the marinades were delicious! Definitely recommend the short rib and the corn cheese! The service was phenomenal- not too many people here on Sunday lunch and they changed our grill while we were there over 5 times for a fresher taste! We've been to a few kBBQ places around San Diego and this is so far the best place we've been to! Overall based on customer service, the quality of the food, including the side dishes, I would not come here again. We went on Thursday 8/8 around 4:30pm. We ordered several things that were disappointing. For example, the rice paper kept falling apart, despite asking for replacements. I've never seen rice paper also heated up, so when I asked for it not to be, they still fell apart. We also ordered the beef brisket, garlic pork belly, beef belly, and bulgogi. The only one I liked was the pork belly, but the quality of the meat was not as good as ones on Convoy in San Diego and LA. For the service, despite them being nice, it was hard to flag down the waiters, since they were busy attending other tables (who were there after us AND got their stuff before us). Additionally, they did forget requests of ours and having to ask multiple times did not sit well with us. The individual price of this KBBQ place is pricey compared to other places on Convoy that have better quality meat and service, as well as more reasonable prices for each person. I would rather drive out a bit than for the convenience of having a KBBQ place close by at the time. Food was 8/10: The sides were delicous! The cheese corn was perhaps the best I've had at a Korean bbq spot along with their Japchae. Not to mention the veggie dumplings. Oh my word! I'd understand if they would tell me right at the door, but when I continually got told, it felt extremely rushed. This took away from the experience. Secondly, I didn't really get any help at all. I had to really seek for help when needing a refill on water or ordering. Lastly, there was water or some type of liquid on the floor and almost tripped. I took a picture. This can be bad for customers. Ambience: The space looks new and modern. It feels spacious and not crowded. There was closed sign at the front, when it was in fact open. So that can be confusing. There is ample parking and located in a shopping center so a nice little walk around the stores after stuffing yourself with bbq is a nice idea! Overall, a bit disappointing cause my total for two regular options, a saki, soda, tip, and taxes was $90 so it wasn't cheap for an average experience I can't say was worth it. read more

We just left here and I couldn't wait any longer to leave to right this review. This was my first time going here with my family. It was 8:50pm when we arrived. They informed us while we were waiting to be seated that they would do last call in 30 minutes which we were fine with so proceeded to sit and dine in. Once we sat down, the server came within five minutes, took our order, and surely after the food was delivered and laid out on the table, all the food looked really good. However, the dissatisfaction of our dining came about 30 to 40 minutes before the closing. They started cleaning, it wasn't that busy on a Thursday night so that was understandable however at 9:30 they decided to douse the floors in Fabuloso making it really difficult to enjoy our meal because the smell was over powering. We felt really rushed eating but our server was kind. But I will honestly say that we would not come here again, nor would I recommend it. We've tried several AYCE KBBQ places in the area and out. Hanu remains my favorite. I'm not quite a carnivore so the side dishes are super important for me. Hanu has a great variety of sides and they have kept up their quality, even improved them, over the years. The prices have gone up but the food does not disappoint. The servers are friendly.
