Still our #1 Korean AYCE in San Diego! Never missed a month not eating our samgyupsal here at Otay Lakes location. We were seated upon arrival at 11:45 a.m. No issue with the parking. Ordered our usual A2 with meat selections #18 (Chadol/Beef Brisket), #21 (Manna Steak/Flat Iron Steak), #22 (Jumooluk /Boneless short rib), and #25 (Pork Belly). Just needed to cut some tendon parts with the Manna steak while grilling, and the rest were all tender. All the sides were fresh, not too salty, and delicious. Also, their dipping sauce makes us keep coming back here at this location. Staff were nice and quick; always got our orders 2-3 mins after ordering on the tablet. Glad they upgraded the dining. I've eaten at many different KBBQ places, but I always come back to Manna. My go-to is always the galbi, brisket, and beef belly as far as meats go. The sides are the star, though! I've been to other locations but this was my first time at the Otay location. I met my friend here for lunch and we did the All you can eat A2 menu. When you walk in, it's decorated beautifully inside with light signs and greenery overhead. The booth we sat at hardly had enough room for our legs under the table but we made it work. We started with the salad and Bonchon which were all pretty good but the salad i had to mix a little more to get the dressing on all the lettuce. The bonchon was fish cakes, blanched spinach, potato salad, kimchi, pickled onions and beans sprouts. All very great options! We ordered the pork dumplings, Soon Dubu (tofu stew), Manna Ramen, Ssamjang (fermented soy bean paste), corn cheese, cheese fondue and white rice. The pork dumplings were pretty good, nice and crispy on the outside and well seasoned kn the inside. The Soon Dubu was pretty good but the flavor wasn't the same as the other locations, it had a lot more veggies in it than I've had before also. The Manna Ramen was also pretty good, the noodles were cooked perfectly and I like that they had an option for spicy or mild and corn or no corn. The Ssamjang was really thick so I added water to it to make it more like a sauce than a paste and it was still really good. The corn cheese was good but the edges of it were pretty burnt. The cheese fondue is always a nice treat to have on the gril. And the white rice was cooked perfectly. For meats we stuck to beef belly, beef brisket and pork belly. The beef belly was cut thin, had a good amount of fat on it and cooked pretty quickly. The beef brisket was cut thicker than I at the other Manna locations which caught me off guard when I took a bite. Still good quality meet. The pork belly we got was significantly smaller than what I have had at other Manna locations so when it cooked it shrank even more and ended up crispy and not really how I would've preferred to have it.. I dipped each meat in the Ssamjang and the side of sesame oil n salt and the cheese fondue and it was all pretty delicious. The service was very minimal since we used the tablet to place our order. The servers brought the meats out pretty quick but the sides did take a bit of time to see come out. Overall, a good Korean BBQ spot and definitely worth paying a visit! read more

My partner and I dined at the Mana BBQ location in Chula Vista on September 13 and were seated at approximately 6:52 PM. Unfortunately, what started as a normal dinner turned into an extremely disappointing and humiliating experience. We have been coming to this location since it opened. Chula Vista is our hometown, and we were genuinely happy when Mana BBQ opened here because we have enjoyed visiting Mana BBQ restaurants throughout San Diego with friends and family. We ordered two Premium menus and began ordering through the tablet. When our food arrived, our grill had not been turned on. I asked an employee to turn it on and didn't think much of it because the restaurant was busy. Later, our tablet stopped working properly. We would submit orders, but they apparently weren't going through and the food wouldn't arrive. A very nice server noticed we had been sitting without food, checked on us, and personally brought what we had ordered. I appreciated his help. When we finished, we requested our bill through the tablet. An employee brought the bill, took my card, processed the payment, and returned the receipt for my signature. I signed it, left a tip, and my partner and I left. This is where the experience became completely unacceptable. Immediately after stepping outside, I was approached by an older Asian gentleman wearing a white shirt with a short, flat-top-style haircut. I don't know his name or position, but I had seen him around the host stand appearing to oversee staff, so I assumed he may have been a manager or supervisor. In front of other customers waiting outside, he loudly asked whether I had paid for my food. I was completely caught off guard. My card had just been processed, I had signed the receipt, and I had even left a tip. I asked what led him to believe I hadn't paid. Instead of explaining, he asked whether I was from "table 1A." I told him I didn't know my table number. I'm a customer, not an employee, and have no reason to know the restaurant's internal table numbering system. He again asked whether I had paid. I told him that if he believed I hadn't paid, he was welcome to verify it at my table and pointed out where we had been sitting. I also told him that if the restaurant is concerned about people leaving without paying, they should verify that before publicly confronting paying customers without cause. Rather than apologizing, he laughed at my response in a way I found arrogant and dismissive and went inside to check the table. I chose to walk away because I was extremely angry and did not want the situation to escalate. What bothers me most is that my payment could have been verified before I was confronted. The restaurant had already processed my card and returned my receipt. Yet I was stopped outside and repeatedly questioned about whether I had paid in front of other customers. My partner and I felt singled out, humiliated, and deeply uncomfortable. Given the way I was selected and confronted without an apparent factual basis, the interaction felt discriminatory to us. I cannot know what was in this employee's mind, but that is genuinely how the encounter made us feel. If there was confusion about which table had paid, that was an internal restaurant issue that should have been verified before confronting a customer outside. We have supported Mana BBQ for years and have brought friends and family to its locations throughout San Diego. Unfortunately, after tonight's experience, we no longer feel comfortable supporting this business. I strongly encourage management to review what occurred on September 13 at approximately 6:52 PM onward, identify the employee involved, review the transaction and any available surveillance footage, and address how situations like this are handled. No paying customer should be publicly confronted and made to feel like they committed a crime after their payment has already been processed. read more

It didn't feel like one of those "meh" lunch deals either--it actually hit the spot! The place wasn't too crowded either, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and low-key. Now let's talk parking-- San Diego people, you know the struggle... but Chilveston? I arrived late on a Sunday, it was just my partner and me. We put our names on the wait list behind 13 others. They don't send a confirmation text, only a "your table is ready" text. All employees were kind and helpful even though it was the final hour of business by the time we got seated. It was pretty messy, food crumbs on my seat and slippery floors and sticky tables. We received everything we ordered and it was fine. Nothing really notable, flavors didn't pop, spicy levels were abysmal in every meat we chose. My husband and I originally thought we were going to another KBBQ place but I punched in the wrong one on maps. We wanted to take my in-laws to KBBQ for the first time. Turns out it was our first time at this location too! As soon as we step in the door there is a tablet with 2 parties on the list. There was no worker in the front so I added ourselves to the list. I saw a worker take a group to their table. And after ~10 mins, another group came in after us and got seated (likely the party before us on the tablet, no issue here). We waited at the front for what seemed like 20mins with no one acknowledging us.. which felt very weird. There's a lot of tables but not much space between them. It didn't necessarily feel cramped but it was not roomy. We finally get sat and our food and drink orders came out very fast. The first grill change took a long time - it was completely black by the time it was changed. After the first change, the subsequent grill changes were much more frequent. The food was all very delicious. The japchae and a few other sides were a favorite. Sapporo and Asahi beers were large pint sizes. Budlight came in a smaller bottle. The price really wasn't that bad for AYCE- we didn't see anything we wanted on the premium menu so we opted for the cheaper one. Overall it was a very good time and the food was delicious. Not sure that we'd make this our go to but we didn't have a bad time. The free ice cream (self-serve scoop into a cup only, no bars/sandwiches) was a nice touch! Plus you get a scoop of ice cream included with all you can eat meal which is also an amazing park. I love how clean the restaurant is including their bathrooms. Came on a Tuesday at 5PM and there were plenty of tables with nobody waiting. Tried to use the iPad to put my name down but it wasn't working at first. A worker came up to me and asked how many people were in our group but then said I had to put my name down and I said, "it's not working" but after tapping for a while it finally worked and I put my name down and then she came back, called us, and sat us down. We were served right away and ordered using the iPad at the table.
