This is one of the first times I've ever had yukgaejang and I'm glad I was able to have it at this restaurant. Service was quick and the soups were very hot and fresh. Yuk Dae Jang has one of the best kimchi side dishes with the perfect amount of fermentation and crunch. I got the regular yukgaejang with fresh pasta. The fresh pasta noodles are just thicker rice noodles and they paired well the soup. The soup had such a deep, umami flavor and was so hearty. Had an awesome week night dinner experience at Yuk Dae Jang! This restaurant get very busy for dinners on the weeknights and weekends. We happened to be free for dinner very early at 4 pm and the restaurant was empty! We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and we immediately ordered the original Yukgaejang with Ramyun and the brisket cold soup buck wheat noodles. We were served three banchan dishes: fresh kimchi, green onion salad, and fish cakes. The kimchi here is one of the best side dish kimchis - it's so fresh and bright we asked for 2 refills and demolished it. The Ramyun is my personal favorite dish here, the broth is rich and flavorful and I finished every drop. My favorite part of the brisket cold soup was surprisingly the radishes which were thinly sliced, fresh, and almost sweet like an Asian pear. We came for dinner on a Monday evening, and got a table right away. We ordered the original yukgaejang with ramyun ($20.99) and the premium bossam boiled in various herbs with purple rice ($21.99). For those wondering what "bossam" is, it is a Korean tender, slow-boiled pork belly, usually eaten wrapped with fresh vegetables. The vegetables, toppings, and side dishes were all provided. The bossam was so good. I liked being able to wrap up the pork and add all of the toppings and vegetables. The yukgaejang was also delicious and satisfying. Yuk Dae Jang is a popular chain from South Korea serving comforting Korean noodle soup -- individual bowls and shareable hot pot -- meat entrees, and other popular apps and sides. The primary options with varying ingredients are a milky ox bone soup/ seolleongtang, spicy beef soup/ yukgaedang, cold noodles, and a tender pork belly dish called bossam. Individual soup bowls do push at $17 and up, but you they give you a ton of noodles, onions for flavoring, and a heaping of shredded beef. Said shredded beef comes in pretty much all their noodle soup bowls. It's not the best beef as it's a little on the dry side, but when the protein helping is on generous side, I let it slide. All their noodle soup bowls also come with glass noodles by default and you can upgrade to pasta or ramyun noodles for +$3. My favorites are the seolleongtang (lately with pasta noodles) and cold noodles since the yukgaedang already comes very spicy (with the option to add more spice for $). Their cold noodle broth comes pretty tasty to start; no need to add anything extra. The bossam platter is probably best value and great for sharing. Love the crunchy bits of skin on the pork belly and the crunchy cabbage. Super filling to have alongside a large noodle bowl though. The banchan though is perhaps my favorite. They offer only fish cake and kimchi, but they are automatically the best options anyways and the only banchan I usually touch. The kimchi is fresh/ crunchy, tangy, and has the perfect level of spice. My other favorite option is having the ability to order purple rice at no extra charge. This is served with cabbage, kimichi, and other sides. Essentially you make a small wrap. We got the large version. The pork by itself is very flavorful and not greasy or overly fatty. Also came with several large pieces of tofu. Prep it as you feel or even just eat it with some white rice. Placed on a tabletop warmer. Prime beef bulgogi with glass noodle. Straightforward but excellent tasting dish. My daughter ordered an Original YukGaejang (spicy beef noodle) soup with pasta instead of the normal glass noodle. I felt that we might have too much food so I didn't order one myself but after sampling hers I definitely will on next visit. Assorted Banchan (small complimentary sides): There was your standard kimchi which one of my daughters loves so much to the point where she has stopped in and actually ordered it by the jar from the restaurant. The soup here was incredible and the kimchi was top notch too! I see why they had a crowd of people, and also why they sell their broth & kimchi! Definitely outstanding in flavor! Rich broth without feeling greasy, full of umami and belly-warming goodness. The restaurant is quite small and can get packed easily. Suggest coming here with a smaller party if you don't want to wait too long. They also seemed a bit short-staffed, and kept forgetting things for our table (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). For example, the cups they gave us for water were dirty. There was a very obvious pink lipstick stain on one, and food stain in another. Another example was they brought out all 4 hot soups we ordered, but did not give any rice. When we asked about it the server replied "we ran out of rice". A minute later they brought rice for another table who hadn't even received their soups yet! So my (Korean) father-in-law asked for rice again, and again, we were told they ran out of rice. We waited about 20 min for rice that was supposed to accompany the meal, which was a bummer. If the food and banchan were not exceptional my review would have been lower. It's a very popular restaurant among the local community. The interior is small but cozy and clean with a chic and modern vibe. Their Premium Bossam Boiled in Various Herbs is good too, it comes in 3 sizes S/M/L. It's tender and flavorful combined with all the sides that comes with the dish. Although their banchan is not as many as other Korean restaurants but the quality really makes up for the lack of variety. We absolutely love their kimchi cause it's fresh and savory and not as acidity. Their YukGaeJang is flavorful and well seasoned, you can pick the spicy level. Our favorite is the Seafood Premium YukGaeJang, we put our rice in the soup and make it like porridge style. You can add a side of their custom made ramyun or fresh pasta and other sides too. We added a side of the Korean sausage to the Premium Tripe & Brisket YukGaeJang with Glass Noodle and it's amazingly delicious. Rice comes with all meals and you can choose white or purple rice. I decided that since I couldn't find parking near the persian place I wanted to go to, I was going to scope out the Korean scene here in SD. I heard good things about Yuk Dae Jang, and I figured I can't really go wrong with Korean food. It was early for dinner on a Monday, but actually this made for a perfect eating experience for me as a solo diner. Only one other table was occupied, and I didn't feel like I was taking up space eating alone. The atmosphere in this location was very relaxed and cozy in my opinion. The music was fitting for the experience of eating Korean, and the Fresh Soju was perfect to round out the afternoon vibe. The service was fantastic - efficient and attentive, but not too much so. My order was the prime beef bulgogi with glass noodle and it was every bit what I hoped for. The beef was well seasoned and good quality, and the mushrooms man - they were amazing. The size of the banchan was huge. Back home I'm rarely going to get portions that size. And the kimchi was REALLY good. I commented how red it was, that I'd never see kimchi so red, but it was very well balanced. My server even brought me more to take home with my left overs. Possibly one of the best Korean restaurants I've been to yet. A friend brought me here to try bossam the other night, and we left so full and happy! We shared a small order of the bossam and it was the perfect amount for the two of us. Everything tasted so good. The cabbage, pork, and banchan all tasted great without being too heavy. I really enjoyed their banchan, especially the fish cakes! After finishing the whole bossam order, we mixed together the leftover banchan with the purple rice. We wanted to get every last bit! I have been to the one in Koreatown Los Angeles many times, and I am very happy to say the quality remains the same here!! As a side note, this restaurant has some of the best tasting fish cakes I have ever had and I am delighted to get a 2nd serving of them every time I visit. It's definitely a step up from the traditional pork dumplings and a must try! - Dried Pollack Sullungtang: This was the only disappointing dish of the night. The soup was pretty bland despite the dried pollack. We wanted to try this seafood version of the classic sullungtang but unfortunately the flavor just wasn't there and the dried fish was too tough texturally and didn't feel incorporated in the soup. I think I may have ordered the wrong dish, since I was not terribly impressed by my experience at Yuk Dae-Jang. I dropped by with a friend and as it was a hot day, I was craving cold noodles. I have had some amazing naengmyeon in LA so I admit I have high standards. The restaurant was not terribly busy and service was quick. I considered getting the titular yuk dae-jang stew, but my cold noodle craving won out. I was thrown off by the chopsticks. I've never been able to use chopsticks the "correct" way so that may have played a part, but I was struggling to grasp the thin, flat, metal chopsticks, and found them super slippery. It was a challenge to pick up my food with them. Once my food arrived, I used scissors to cut the tough, chewy noodles into more manageable bites. Unfortunately, the broth was quite bland and not as icy as I would have liked. I saw photos on their Yelp page where the broth was more of a slushy texture; my bowl didn't have any ice and was just chilled liquid broth. I added mustard but it did not add that much to the flavor unfortunately. I did enjoy the beef, it was plentiful and soft, but the noodles and broth were not my favorite. Portions are large but this restaurant is quite pricy. If I return, I will definitely suck it up and order the yuk dae-jang stew, no matter the temperature. read more

Service here is amazing! They are attentive to your needs and are happy to refill any of your side dishes. We love the variety of side dishes and especially love their kimchi! This is my favorite spot for bossam, the slices of pork are super juicy and flavorful. This place was sooooo good it blew me away. Got here before 6 and there was already a line! It moved pretty quickly though and we only waited like 10 ish minutes. All the servers here are super sweet and kind. We ordered the sullungtang, the bossam, and the galbi jjim/ braised beef ribs and everything was amazing! Of course the beef rib was the star of the meal. Loved all the veggies, especially the kabocha squash, and I enjoyed the inclusion of the glass noodles. When the mushrooms soaked up all the sauce at the end too, so good! Definitely my new favorite Korean spot in the area :) parking is super easy in the big lot too! read more
