2nd time here and will continue to come back. I don't have any complaints. Brisket cold noodles is flavorful & refreshing with chewy & bouncy buckwheat noodles. Soo perfect to have on a hot humid day. Bossom is great just like last time.
I really enjoyed yuk dae jang! It was very popular when arriving so be sure to secure parking early on. It'll probably be tough on weekends. Overall, noodles were cooked well and tasted very authentic. I thought the kimchi could use improvement, but the dishes are nice to have around San Diego
Went on a Friday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. The restaurant was pretty packed but we got a seat right away. It was a warm day so we wanted cold Korean soup. When we walked in the interior was really cool and has great lighting. The customer service was great! The staff is so friendly. We ordered the Brisket cold soup with buckwheat noodle. It was so refreshing because it was a really hot day. Paired up with the Bonchon it was a perfect meal! Broth was light and really delicious!
This is one of the first times I've ever had yukgaejang and I'm glad I was able to have it at this restaurant. Service was quick and the soups were very hot and fresh. Yuk Dae Jang has one of the best kimchi side dishes with the perfect amount of fermentation and crunch. I got the regular yukgaejang with fresh pasta. The fresh pasta noodles are just thicker rice noodles and they paired well the soup. The soup had such a deep, umami flavor and was so hearty. The shredded brisket and vegetables absorbed the broth well and were so soft and flavorful. Overall just a very simple restaurant full of hearty and flavorful soups. I wouldn't mind stopping by again, especially during a cold day.
Best Korean restaurant in San Diego. My husband and I keep coming back and it never disappoints. Service is quick once you're seated. The mandu is fresh every time, and the yukgaejang broth is so addictive. We keep trying to guess what the secret ingredient is, because there's really nothing else like it. Highly recommend.
absolutely slaps! came here after a long night out and was a little hungover, didn't want something hot; this is a great pick me up :) haven't had this super often, so nothing to compare to, but it's really good!
Had an awesome week night dinner experience at Yuk Dae Jang! This restaurant get very busy for dinners on the weeknights and weekends. We happened to be free for dinner very early at 4 pm and the restaurant was empty! We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and we immediately ordered the original Yukgaejang with Ramyun and the brisket cold soup buck wheat noodles. We were served three banchan dishes: fresh kimchi, green onion salad, and fish cakes. The kimchi here is one of the best side dish kimchis - it's so fresh and bright we asked for 2 refills and demolished it. The Ramyun is my personal favorite dish here, the broth is rich and flavorful and I finished every drop. My favorite part of the brisket cold soup was surprisingly the radishes which were thinly sliced, fresh, and almost sweet like an Asian pear. Overall a delicious meal, pretty solid value, and excellent attentive service! Will definitely be back.
I recently ordered the bossam (premium pork belly) in size small and the portion was perfect for me. It came with toppings, dips/sauce, and some cabbage to make a ssam (wrap) -- it can also be ordered in sizes M and L, but the size S is good enough if you're a light eater. Service was great, they refilled our banchan (side dishes) when it was running low/when we ran out of them. Ambiance was pretty peaceful, the place seemed clean and they had some kpop songs playing in the TV/background.
The service was warm and welcoming. The ambience was casual and clean. Really enjoyed the broth and purple rice refills -- would come back to try the other dishes.
There's plenty of parking in the plaza on a Monday night and not too crowded. Our group of 4 was seated immediately. Everything we ordered was delicious, nothing was too oily or salty. The sides were also good. They have one of the best kimchis I've ever tried at a restaurant it was still crunchy and the right amount of fermentation. Service was good and sides were refilled. Yuk Dae Jang is a popular chain from South Korea serving comforting Korean noodle soup -- individual bowls and shareable hot pot -- meat entrees, and other popular apps and sides. The primary options with varying ingredients are a milky ox bone soup/ seolleongtang, spicy beef soup/ yukgaedang, cold noodles, and a tender pork belly dish called bossam. Individual soup bowls do push at $17 and up, but you they give you a ton of noodles, onions for flavoring, and a heaping of shredded beef. Said shredded beef comes in pretty much all their noodle soup bowls. It's not the best beef as it's a little on the dry side, but when the protein helping is on generous side, I let it slide. All their noodle soup bowls also come with glass noodles by default and you can upgrade to pasta or ramyun noodles for +$3. My favorites are the seolleongtang (lately with pasta noodles) and cold noodles since the yukgaedang already comes very spicy (with the option to add more spice for $). Their cold noodle broth comes pretty tasty to start; no need to add anything extra. The bossam platter is probably best value and great for sharing. Love the crunchy bits of skin on the pork belly and the crunchy cabbage. Super filling to have alongside a large noodle bowl though. The banchan though is perhaps my favorite. They offer only fish cake and kimchi, but they are automatically the best options anyways and the only banchan I usually touch. The kimchi is fresh/ crunchy, tangy, and has the perfect level of spice. My other favorite option is having the ability to order purple rice at no extra charge. The wait can be long if you're not in before 6pm on the peak weekend days. Regardless, I do think they are the better option for Korean food in the Convoy area.
Food was super yummy! Got the medium bossam and original yuk dae jang with ramyun noodles! Both entries were absolutely amazing! Side dishes included aged kimchi, Chinese chive and onion, and spicy fish cakes. All three banchan were so yummy and we definitely got refills of the kimchi and fish cakes at least three times. Service was very quick and multiple people took very good care of us. Food did not take too long to come out either. Interior is smaller but not extremely busy and it was just my boyfriend and I so we were seated very quickly.
One of the benefits of my kids having gone to college at UCSD is that they were able to explore the Asian dining scene a whole lot with their friends. A shuttle from campus runs to that area. They were there a lot over the last four years lol. One of their discoveries was Yuk Dae Jang. We wanted to bring their Grandma out for dinner but take her out of her normal dining routine. Yuk Dae Jang came highly recommended from one of my girls. It was a cool October Friday night and we were a little worried about getting stuck in a wait but we were blessed and our group of 5 were seated immediately (by the time we were done there were several groups waiting). The hostess/owner was super friendly and must have recognized one of my daughters because she got a little hug. Apparently she has her regulars and greets them quite merrily. I love seeing that with these tiny places. Good vibes. Our serve came quickly with waters and explained the menu to us. Tbh, I was a bit tired and just told my kids to order and make sure Grandma would like it. Premium Bossam (thinly sliced pork) boiled in various herbs. This is served with cabbage, kimichi, and other sides. Essentially you make a small wrap. We got the large version. The pork by itself is very flavorful and not greasy or overly fatty. Also came with several large pieces of tofu. Prep it as you feel or even just eat it with some white rice. Placed on a tabletop warmer. Prime beef bulgogi with glass noodle. Straightforward but excellent tasting dish. My daughter ordered an Original YukGaejang (spicy beef noodle) soup with pasta instead of the normal glass noodle. I felt that we might have too much food so I didn't order one myself but after sampling hers I definitely will on next visit. Assorted Banchan (small complimentary sides): There was your standard kimchi which one of my daughters loves so much to the point where she has stopped in and actually ordered it by the jar from the restaurant. A surprise for me was fish cake banchan. I absolutely loved this one. Pretty sure I ate 3 servings by myself. Service was attentive and very friendly. Water and Banchan refilled swiftly. It is a small but comfortable restaurant. Good for families, dates, or just on your own. Come on in and enjoy!

The small is perfect for two people to share. * Original yukgaejang with ramyun: rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. You can ask for mild if you're sensitive to spice. * Brisket cold buckwheat noodles: refreshing and especially good on a hot day. yuk dae jang is a good comforting place to get a meal. i love getting their spicy cold noodles! this time we got the army stew to share and it was tasty! i loved the variety of items they put and the broth was very savory. it wasn't my favorite item that i've gotten from here but i always recommend the cold noodles. parking is ok as the spots are small and sometimes it gets busy but this place is good. read more

Food: (S) Premium Bossam Boiled in Various Herbs - the boiled pork was made so well! very fresh, tender, and flavorful. it paired well with the lettuce, jalapeño, onion, radish salad, and ssamjang. although, i do wish that the lettuce slices were bigger instead of small pieces because it was hard to make a wrap as i always do when i eat bossam. Original Yukgaejang w/ Glass Noodle - the broth was nice and it wasn't too spicy. if anything the spice was a boost of flavor. good broth, decent beef, and flavorful glass noodles. Service: Such friendly service here! Very helpful and some are very smiley and upbeat Ambiance: Very cozy and casual setting for some korean comfort food! Yuk Dae Jang is a great Korean restaurant on Claremont Mesa in San Diego. It's at one of the few plazas that you can park for free in the area. We came for dinner on a Monday evening, and got a table right away. We ordered the original yukgaejang with ramyun ($20.99) and the premium bossam boiled in various herbs with purple rice ($21.99). For those wondering what "bossam" is, it is a Korean tender, slow-boiled pork belly, usually eaten wrapped with fresh vegetables. The vegetables, toppings, and side dishes were all provided. The bossam was so good. I liked being able to wrap up the pork and add all of the toppings and vegetables. The yukgaejang was also delicious and satisfying. I ordered it less spicy and it was just right. I would definitely order these two dishes again. Service was nice and the restaurant was clean and comfortable to dine in. They have several locations in Southern California. read more
Hits the spot for Korean food! I went on a Saturday evening and the wait for a table of two was around 20-30 minutes which I expected since it's a super popular spot! I believe the restaurant is a lot smaller than I expected so the seating was a bit tight and a bit overstimulating. However the environment was fun and the kpop music was exciting! For the food, I thought the broth was rich and spicy. I got the original Yuk dae jang with knife cut noodles. Hits the spot on a cold evening esp winter time. This was authentic, beef was tender, and noodles were well cooked. However, I thought the banchan was a bit lacking as they only provided kimchi, fish cakes, and a chive salad. More variation in kimchi would be great :) I give this place: 8/10 parking ( it's a bit tight and always busy but you can find a spot) 8.5/10 food (authentic, fresh, and hot) 9/10 service (super friendly, fast service, very efficient and food came out fast too!) 7/10 (environment was busy and tight) read more

Yuk Dae Jang is so consistently good it almost feels illegal. The food always hits -- the broth is rich, the meat is super tender, and the flavors take me right back to my time in Korea. I've dragged friends, family, and basically anyone who eats... and not one person has walked out disappointed. Service is always on point -- quick, friendly, and they actually pay attention. Parking? A full blessing. Especially in Convoy where you normally need to pray, circle, and manifest a spot. And the music is lowkey a vibe. Works for catching up with friends, bringing the family, or even a cute little date night. If you want a spot that delivers every single time, this is the place. I'm obsessed. read more

The soup here was incredible and the kimchi was top notch too! I see why they had a crowd of people, and also why they sell their broth & kimchi! Definitely outstanding in flavor! Rich broth without feeling greasy, full of umami and belly-warming goodness. The restaurant is quite small and can get packed easily. Suggest coming here with a smaller party if you don't want to wait too long. They also seemed a bit short-staffed, and kept forgetting things for our table (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). For example, the cups they gave us for water were dirty. There was a very obvious pink lipstick stain on one, and food stain in another. Another example was they brought out all 4 hot soups we ordered, but did not give any rice. When we asked about it the server replied "we ran out of rice". A minute later they brought rice for another table who hadn't even received their soups yet! So my (Korean) father-in-law asked for rice again, and again, we were told they ran out of rice. We waited about 20 min for rice that was supposed to accompany the meal, which was a bummer. If the food and banchan were not exceptional my review would have been lower. Overall, I'd still recommend coming for authentic, delicious Korean soups. read more

This is a Korean chain restaurant originated from South Korea. It's one of our favorite Korean cuisine spots in Los Angeles. Glad that they opened down here in San Diego. It's a very popular restaurant among the local community. The interior is small but cozy and clean with a chic and modern vibe. There's a big TV screen playing KPOP music videos and some pictures of their dishes on the walls. Server was friendly and attentive, refilling our Banchan and water in a timely manner. The highlight is the Premium Bossam in House Special Soy Sauce. The pork belly is not fatty or chewy and the meat is soft while soaking up all that delicious sauce, yummy goodness! Their Premium Bossam Boiled in Various Herbs is good too, it comes in 3 sizes S/M/L. It's tender and flavorful combined with all the sides that comes with the dish. Although their banchan is not as many as other Korean restaurants but the quality really makes up for the lack of variety. We absolutely love their kimchi cause it's fresh and savory and not as acidity. Their YukGaeJang is flavorful and well seasoned, you can pick the spicy level. Our favorite is the Seafood Premium YukGaeJang, we put our rice in the soup and make it like porridge style. You can add a side of their custom made ramyun or fresh pasta and other sides too. We added a side of the Korean sausage to the Premium Tripe & Brisket YukGaeJang with Glass Noodle and it's amazingly delicious. Rice comes with all meals and you can choose white or purple rice. The Beef Short Rib SulLungTang with Glass Noodle was disappointing. Ribs were tough and not enough soup was given as it's only a little over half bowl. Also, it's overly filled with chives/leeks. However, the soup was very rich and flavorful. I took one star off because of this dish. It's high-cost but does not meet expectations in terms of value or quality. I will be back and try their other dishes soon. read more
I decided that since I couldn't find parking near the persian place I wanted to go to, I was going to scope out the Korean scene here in SD. I heard good things about Yuk Dae Jang, and I figured I can't really go wrong with Korean food. It was early for dinner on a Monday, but actually this made for a perfect eating experience for me as a solo diner. Only one other table was occupied, and I didn't feel like I was taking up space eating alone. The atmosphere in this location was very relaxed and cozy in my opinion. The music was fitting for the experience of eating Korean, and the Fresh Soju was perfect to round out the afternoon vibe. The service was fantastic - efficient and attentive, but not too much so. My order was the prime beef bulgogi with glass noodle and it was every bit what I hoped for. The beef was well seasoned and good quality, and the mushrooms man - they were amazing. The size of the banchan was huge. Back home I'm rarely going to get portions that size. And the kimchi was REALLY good. I commented how red it was, that I'd never see kimchi so red, but it was very well balanced. My server even brought me more to take home with my left overs. And I did have left-overs because the portions were incredible. Food in California seems even more expensive than back home in NY, but I felt like I got a lot for my money here. There is limited seating but the restaurant is very homey! They provide delicious homemade banchan & rice with your meal. This Korean restaurant serves traditional dishes that are perfect for cold days. The servers are also very kind & helped us refill our banchan as we ate to our heart's desires. * Premium Tripe & Brisket YukDaeJang with Glass Noodle - 8.7/10 (the soup had a kick of spice & came out steaming hot. the beef tripe & brisket were yummy, with lots of bits & pieces. the noodles were thick & chewy which i liked. the soup tasted like i was eating a delicious bowl of homemade soup) * Brisket Cold Soup with Buckwheat Noodles - 8.5/10 (the noodles were thick & filling. we liked how the broth had a nice sweetness & was quite light. the radish was a nice addition & added a nice crunch of texture. the brisket & egg was just a bit tough for my liking. nonetheless, a delicious & refreshing cold noodle soup) * Premium Bossam Boiled in Various Herbs - 8/10 (the presentation is very pretty. the bossam itself was more tough than i usually prefer. i wish the pieces were slightly larger & thicker. the combination of the cabbage with the pickled radish & pork belly made a tasty bite nonetheless) read more
Came here for lunch last year in April! We shared the premium bossam and the yuk gae jang with glad noodles. Kim chi, tofu, green onions were part of the ban chan offered! The soup was flavorful and bassam was a huge portion! It came with jalapeños, garlic, sauces, and lots of lettuce to wrap it in! read more

Possibly one of the best Korean restaurants I've been to yet. A friend brought me here to try bossam the other night, and we left so full and happy! We shared a small order of the bossam and it was the perfect amount for the two of us. Everything tasted so good. The cabbage, pork, and banchan all tasted great without being too heavy. I really enjoyed their banchan, especially the fish cakes! After finishing the whole bossam order, we mixed together the leftover banchan with the purple rice. We wanted to get every last bit! But I think us mixing all our food together made us look really hungry, as one of the sweet servers later offered us more banchan.. which we gladly accepted. The restaurant itself is clean and has seating both indoors and outdoors. Menu is very limited but everything we ordered was so flavorful and fresh that I do not mind at all !! This is one of the best stew places in Convoy. Service was very nice and quick. The side kimchi they give is very tasty and the best I have ever had. The spicy octopus dumplings were soft and full of flavor. I love this place so much, it's def a favorite and one I recommend. read more
Love the variety in their yukdaejang options - both the soft tofu and fresh pasta ones were delicious. Very flavorful and rich but not too heavy broth. Bossam was solid too with good portion sizes. Attentive servers as well with fast service. Recommend a reservation on weekend evenings but the wait wasn't too long. read more

When someone asks what my favorite Korean dish is, I'm very quick to respond with Yukgaejang. As a soup lover, this is a top tier dish and I am always so happy to stop in a Yuk Dae Jang location. I have been to the one in Koreatown Los Angeles many times, and I am very happy to say the quality remains the same here!! As a side note, this restaurant has some of the best tasting fish cakes I have ever had and I am delighted to get a 2nd serving of them every time I visit. I came by on a weekday late evening (~8 pm) and while they close at 9 and did have a 20 minute wait, I was able to place my order in advance so as soon as a table opened, I was able to sit and eat my meal almost immediately. The service here was quick and very polite and seeing how yummy the food is, its definitely popular for a reason! Yuk Dae Jang looks and feels simple, from the exterior facade that I found to be easily overlooked to the simplistic interior that is thoughtful, practical, and gets straight to the point. However, what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality! Reminiscent of how Asian street food is perfected over decades (one person, one stall, one dish), Yuk Dae Jang has perfected their yukgaejang. Some notes: - Their bonchon is simple: chives, fish cake, kimchi. Free refills too. Chives were fresh with a snap. Fish cakes were on the sweeter side. I'm inclined to say their kimchi is made in house. - The yukgaejang came with a side of rice. The broth was rich, full, spicy, and packed with umami flavor. Unfortunately I did not order this, but the few sips of the broth that I got to have left me wanting more. - The mandu & rice cakes were slightly disappointing. The broth was, dare I say, bland, and the mandu/rice cake didn't add anything special. Maybe my palate is too Americanized, but with ox bone broth soups, I am accustomed to having the option to add salt to my liking, which was not provided here. For the price, I would not recommend. - Our servers were very kind & gladly gave refills as we asked. We were seated immediately and I got to witness the servers gently rearranging customers to accomodate as many as they could. read more
Korean food gem in SD! I loveeee Sundae, so I decided to try their sundae soup. It did not disappoint! I'm not a huge fan of soup, but this was delicious. Broth was simple but flavorful, sundae was delicious. The side dishes paired well also. Service was excellent and efficient. Dishes are a bit pricey, but I'd go back when I travel to SD again! We came to Yuk Dae Jang after a craving for Korean food and ended up loving the delicious and comforting soups here! Between 4 people we shared a bunch of dishes to try and really enjoyed most of what we ate: - Original YukGaeJang with Fresh Ramen: Loved the ramen texture which was perfectly chewy and the soup was so flavorful and rich with a nice kick - Tripe & Brisket Hot Pot with Glass Noodles: This was great as well, we love tripe and this was perfect for sharing. We found this soup to actually be even richer and meaty than the yukgaejang so it didn't feel repetitive on flavor either - Steamed Mandu w/Spicy Baby Octopus: I've had this in Korea and was excited to see it on the menu here. I love the tender, spicy baby octopus in the dumplings along with the veggies and glass noodles. It's definitely a step up from the traditional pork dumplings and a must try! - Dried Pollack Sullungtang: This was the only disappointing dish of the night. The soup was pretty bland despite the dried pollack. We wanted to try this seafood version of the classic sullungtang but unfortunately the flavor just wasn't there and the dried fish was too tough texturally and didn't feel incorporated in the soup. We actually ended up adding some of the hot pot broth in here to boost the flavor. Overall a really solid spot for authentic Korean food! Would definitely be back for the spicy octopus mandu and yukgaejang! read more
Visiting my sister and she wanted soup! We went to Yuk Dae Jang around 6:30-45 and were quoted a 20-30 minute wait. That time went by quickly and we ordered prior to being seated (so be ready!) My sister chose the Mandu & Rice cake in ox bone broth and enjoyed it. My future BIL and I shared a small bossam and the original yukgaejang with custom made ramyun (the lady at the front who took our order recommended it!) Food was fantastic - absolutely delicious! There were 3 banchan (a marinated chive/onion, kimchi, and fish cakes) to accompany everything. Bossam came with lots of toppings including a pickled plum(?) that I had never had before. Noodles in the spicy soup were tasty and chewy. Had a great time with good food and quick service! Would definitely come again. read more

The food here was top notch, finest Korean I've ever had. Be prepared for a bit of a wait. Took us probably 15-20m both times. Is it worth the wait? Yes. The prime bulgogi was killer. Their spicy soups are bomb! Service was very good and straight to the point. If you're not familiar with the food items, they will help you with a positive attitude. A bit pricey, but the taste won't let you down. It was so good we had to revisit a week later! read more
