I called three landscaping companies on a Tuesday. Hapa Landscaping was one of them. Of the three they were the only one to have someone answer the phone in a polite and professional manner. They were the only one to actually have a estimator contact me, make an appointment to look over my project, and promise to send a written proposal. This is a work in progress but ... (fingers crossed)so far so good. Well, it's been a while so I called. I spoke to Makenna this time. Still very polite and professional on the phone. She said I should've received the estimate and wondered if it might have gotten caught in my SPAM (it didn't). She promised to follow up with Santiago and someone would get back to me. Finally received the estimate from Hapa Landscaping. For this project they are unfortunately, out of my price range but I appreciate their professionalism during the estimating process. I had synthetic grass installed in my backyard for my dog and he loves it. The first day it was completed he had the zoomies for 10 whole minutes feeling the new soft grass between his paws. Victor was great with my consultation and follow up. He also always responds in a timely manner with calls and emails. His installation team Chad, Chase, and Jawaiian were very professional and very skilled at installing the grass. They even layed the grass behind my ac condenser between the wall and the unit. After some research we chose this company to help us create a happy place for our new dog to roam free. The area was already perfect for her, but we couldn't grow grass because no sunlight ! Someone suggested turf and the rest is history. The project didn't take very long and the installation men were stellar. They had a great selection to choose from, and even though all their products are pet friendly, they have specialty turf just for your fur friends! I reached out for a quote for servicing our front yard sprinkler system which has suddenly stopped working. The customer service rep let me know that the earliest available appointment was three weeks out and would call me if something earlier became available. Day of the appointment: I get an email, not a call, saying the technician will not be able to show for the appointment and that I will be notified as soon as possible of when I would be rescheduled. I didn't get a response back so I initiated the conversation and I have yet to receive any word back from their business. This was a complete waste of time. Time which I could have gone out to another business and have my issue fixed by now. *********** Update to service: It was about a week with no response after the initial appointment cancellation before I got an email notifying me of an available service appointment for the following morning. Technician showed up on time, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We've had no issues with our irrigation system since the service. Adding two stars for Quality of work. There was an issue with some of the groundcover plants not thriving and I communicated this to their Ops person Makenna. Since they were so busy, it took some time for them to schedule me in. When Ace showed up he brought additional plants to shore up the bare areas and replace the dead plants. He worked so effortlessly and was able to give me some pointers on how to take care both my ground cover and the newly sodded lawn. The crew showed up on time and worked quietly so as not to disturb our neighbors. This was amazing because they had demolished a CMU wall as well as part of a stone wall that was tipping badly. The crew were very polite and soft spoken so it was very easy to talk to them regarding why my wall was falling apart. Most importantly, the crew cleaned up after themselves so that there the yard was ready for replanting. I really appreciated that being my age makes it difficult to do big jobs in the yard by myself. We needed our landscaping replaced due to neglect. I called Hapa. I felt they were very professional with just the first call. I requested the landscaping be completed by a certain time (in a month) and there was no delays or excuses for not having to meet this time. Santiago was out within a couple of days helping me figure what plants I needed. I had some ideas too so we easily worked everything in. Three men came for four days and worked so well together. They had to rip everything out first. Every time I asked a question they were courteous and helpful. They brought several plants the same kind out and I picked what I liked. I had a great experience with Hapa Landscaping. From estimate to installation, the whole team (Victor, Brant, Brant's dad, Ace, Chad, and Dustin) was super responsive, professional, and courteous. Chad and Dustin did such excellent work! They were always timely arriving at the site early, ready to tackle the project, and they knew exactly how we wanted it to look like. I had a 4 star review but now it is not as the trees they trimmed had horrible problems afterwards and I never fixed my review. Die back on the plumeria and avocado trees and mold disease on the mountain apple. I had another arborist check it and he stated that it was "Trimmed too severely and it put the trees in shock." So I'll never hire this company again, no matter what. read more

We recently had our lawn redone and can't say enough about Hapa Landscaping! We live in Manoa and were having drainage problems with parts of our lawn being underwater after rains. Our project was started just before the recent huge rainy streak that caused havoc around the islands. One of the Hapa Landscaping owners, Brant, came and "listened" to what we wanted done. He brainstormed ideas with us and included a French drain under the lawn to take care of the water. Luckily during the install, the rains started. He suggested installing a sump pump to kick in when we have heavy downpours. The rains continued and the pump worked great! Looking at the lawn today after it's complete, you'd never know that the drain and pump are there. It turned out gorgeous and we are sooo happy. Throughout the whole process, a number of workers helped with the project. We were impressed and pleased that each one of them were really nice, professional (even when covered in mud), knowledgeable, a team player, respectful and conscientious. My wife and I recently completed a project on our residential home. The work included building a 3' high moss rock wall, pouring concrete sidewalk, demo and replacing chainlink fencing, and a small patio expansion. We went into the project without any drawings or written plans. As the work commenced, adjustments and new ideas emerged about how best to accomplish the scope of work. I found the crew most willing to make the requested adjustments. At the completion of the project, we were quite satisfied with the workmanship. Hapa did a great job from.start to finish. Santiago came to give us a estimate for a Japanese garden that we wanted but we weren't sure exactly what that fully encompassed. He offered some great ideas on plants and how it should be flowing (See pics). The crew that came out, Ace, Matt, Mike, and Noa were very professional in every way. They made every effort to accommodate changes in scope of work as the job went on. We ended up asking them to redo our sprinkler system and to change out some of our grass. They extended their time to make sure this was all finished before they left the job. Once done, they power washed our sidewalks as if they wasn't even there. I also want to thank Makenna who is in their office for always keeping me informed on scheduling, making sure of changes we wanted, and ensuring everything was going well. I hired Hapa landscaping last year to trim my huge eucalyptus limbs hanging over my roof! Hapa L was the only company who was willing to do this very dangerous job! As you are all aware, eucalyptus trees branches are very heavy, heavy wind an rain will uproot the trees easily! He was the last company out of five that came for a quote. He explained that their business model for servicing smaller clients did not allow them to keep up their expected standard of service. Hence the experience I had. And since they could not maintain their high standards, they decided to discontinue that division. I think that is smart of them. After all, a business like theirs is all about reputation. And I appreciated Brant taking the time to explain this to me. He also offered to make up for their missteps by doing some landscape work at their cost. We worked out the details and the work was done that same weekend. And they did a great job. Brant kept in touch with me the entire time and the yard ended up looking like I wanted it. We called to see if regular yard service was available and were told it is not, but the friendly woman on the phone said she recommended a one-time cleanup. Brant called the day of and said he needed to move up the appointment time so would just come earlier and then send us an estimate. He said "I am on my way" and never showed up. We had a Bamboo plant that was approximately 8.5 feet in diameter and 35 feet tall. It was beautiful and provided a lot of shade. It also made a mess with leaves that fell and never went away. The upkeep to keep it from overrunning the yard was horrendous. In comes Hapa Landscaping. They not only took down the 35 ft tall bush, they also removed the stump and hauled the debris away. I had previously given Hapa a 5-star rating but somehow I must have deleted the review. Two years ago, we hired them to do our backyard. Part of that included laying down quite a bit of cement. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn and the rain did a number on the fresh cement. The project manager, Kyle, did everything he could to correct the issue. After many attempts, he came up with a great solution that we were happy with. Aside from the cement, they also put in a lawn with an irrigation system, a rock border around the garden and a number of plants. By the time they were done, our yard looked awesome. The customer service was the best part of experience, though. This afternoon, I was messing with the controller for the irrigation system. I turned something too far and water started shooting out everywhere. I was soaked in seconds. I frantically texted Kyle and he called a minute later. When it was clear that I was too incompetent to fix the problem myself, he drove over and fixed it for me! That kind of customer service is unbeatable! read more

I would not recommend using this company! This company DOES NOT take ANY pride in what They do! They have workers that are extremely unprofessional! My neighbor uses this company as a twice a month yard cleaning service, which they park work vehicles illegally in turn arounds & they also block neighboring driveways. The workers do not properly remove and dispose grass cuttings and leaves. The workers use a garden hose and a gas blower to scatter all debris onto neighboring properties! Made an appointment for an estimate for a residential job. Emailed company and scheduled an appointment. Took time off of work for the appointment. Morning of appointment, Brant texted telling me he was unable to make it. Asked to reschedule for the following week. After telling him I was unable to take time off of work again, Brant accommodated by doing estimate earlier in the morning. Did a walk through and talked with Brant about my ideas for the yard. He told me they were busy with other jobs and asked for a few days for the estimate. Waited for little over a month and still haven't heard back. No follow up, no email, no text. I know the job was on the smaller side compared to other jobs they do, but if was too small of a job or of they were too busy, could have just let me know so I could find other companies. read more
