Hapa market and Grill is an emerging gem, conveniently located just a short ways into Pālolo valley. I love popping in here to find out what's fresh and new. Local seasonal produce, and local wild harvested venison are staples in my life. This is the spot to get the healthiest meat and veggies. The ready to eat bentos are a hit!! There is no other place that offers grab and go food at this level of quality food and at such a great price. ***For all my gluten-free, gluten allergy, celiac, gluten intolerance, dairy-free, dairy allergy people*** ~THIS IS A SAFE SPACE~ The bentos are made allergy friendly. They use Tamari instead of soy sauce. The market also sells the best allergy friendly, gluten-free breads, cookies and pastries. These gluten-free foods are a game changer, they are indecipherable in texture and flavor from the glutenous usual options. They are made my Chef Kate Wagner, of 'Not Just Desserts'. She is French patisserie trained and substitutes out quinoa and potato starch in the appropriate way to get the right consistency and flavor. There are amazing selections for your pantry as well, delicious in house made hot sauces, venison jerkies, beverages and more. This retail space on Palolo Ave has seen its share of different businesses. Rainbow supermarket used to be here and then it was a coin laundry place for a little while. The space is decently sized for a little store and there's a parking lot in front. Just go slow when you're nearing it on Palolo Ave so you don't miss it. I love Palolo, so I'm glad this little store opened up. I can see myself coming back in the future. I also love buying fresh produce, so when I saw the little fruit and veggie stand outside and a new sign plastered to the building, I thought I'd stop by. They just opened a week or two ago and they aren't really ready to have a full blown opening, but in the meantime, while they set up, you can buy produce and fig bars and dried goods. My boyfriend eats a lot of ulu and kalo. I eat tangerines and star fruit. I'd say there was a good mix of produce on the random Thursday afternoon I stopped in. The person who rang me up was nice. They don't accept credit cards just yet, so bring cash! I really hope they are able to stay, it looks like the new beginnings of a very cute store! read more

A while ago I wanted to try the Early Birdie Coffee's cookies. I had lunch plans with my friend, since we both were off on a State holiday. I picked her up in Palolo, hoping we can stop by at Early Birdie Coffee to buy some cookies. We were sad to learned they have moved out of Hapa Market & Grill. I couldn't search and find the business page for Hapa Market and Grill, although they have been here for a while. I created a page yesterday and it was merged with one from 9 months ago. Funny I couldn't find it. It was the first time here for my friend too who just lives down the street! The special part of this market was they sell variety of local products and it's like a little farmers market of products that is open from Monday through Saturday. It's a place for local pop ups of food businesses on the right side and the market of local vendors' products at the market side. They carry produce from Ko Farms, Hooah farms, KLK farms, Kolea farms, Heavenly Farms, Nozawa's Corn, & many more. I heard for a couple of month Kokua Market was here but not anymore. On the Grill side, right now Bing Mi 808 would be here on Wednesday through Friday. See hours posted. The serve Taiwan Jianbing. The Shioketh will be here soon. They were setting up when I was there. They will be selling Singaporean Street food on certain days. On Saturdays you can pick up beef / venison burgers from 11am-2pm but must pre-order by Tuesday at 1pm. I can't wait to try all of them! The Market side, they carried a variety of can drinks, frozen local artisan pops from Pop Culture, Local organic local farms fresh eggs from various farms, fresh food, and local beef and venison from Makana Provisions Meat Co. I'm curious about the Wailua Green Monster eggs! I bought oat cakes, dried bananas, cookies, that they made. I would have gotten the Pop Culture pop since it was so hot and humid but I was on my way to lunch. When I was there there was no Air conditioning inside. I'm not sure if they have or not but it wasn't on. If you have a need for ice, in the parking lot there was Kooler ice machine in the parking lot. My friend was happy to know about the ice machine, since she buys ice when they go fishing and she can buy ice just up the street from her home. Although I live far away, it's good to know of this wonderful market with food vendors. I don't mind trying the Bing Mi 808 and Shioketh! Come out and support local businesses when you're in the Kaimuki area! They are way in the Palolo valley on Palolo Avenue. They will be having a grand opening on August 23, 2024. The cafe is open from 7 am - 11 am on Monday through Saturday and the food vendor that are opened for that day will be there 11am or after. Check for the vendors and their hours of business. I hate leaving this review but after getting violently ill after eating here I HAVE to leave this review. They claim to have "gluten free" pastries. Unlabeled, and made by someone at their home. After doing some research, this is against Hawaii state health laws. They almost put me in the hospital, agreed to give us a refund via social media, then when going in person - we were given a hard time... they are lucky I didn't go to the hospital or I would've taken legal action. Do not go here if you have any sort of food allergies, even they don't know what's in the food they are selling. read more

Recently discovered this nice little store in the heart of Palolo. It used to be Rainbow Market when we lived in the valley. Now it sells produce and meats from different local vendors like Nozawa Kahuku corn, Ko Farms, Kolea farms. Also game meats like venision, local honey and other produce. Call first before you come to make sure it's stocked. They even have a nut grinder in the back so you can have fresh almond butter. Besides, food stuff there are prints and caps by local artists as well. Right now Bimg Mi has a pop up here so you can get lunch and support local at the same time! read more

Came back for a visit today to pick up a delicious Venison Burger, Nozawa Corn for a gift, Chef Kate's gluten free brownie, my favorite treat and Makana Provisions Beef Chili. Will have to return to get more chili before the sale ends. All 'ono'! The store has been re-designed for an opening for your burgers to come out to you. Produce is displayed on both wall sides in fridges and open-air. Nice seating areas to enjoy your burgers or foods you might purchase from the businesses there on certain days. 2 picnic tables outside with umbrellas. A/C hasn't been installed in the main store as yet, as the back side of the bldg. is still under construction. I hadn't been back for a few months, so nice to see the progress that's been made. Such a great neighborhood addition and we hope many of the former 'Kokua Market' loyal customers will stop by and check it out. Great supply of local eggs! I know the Pop Culture Artisan Pops are VERY popular. People buy by the handful and who can resist all the great natural flavors? Happiness at Hapa Market! Come see for yourself. read more
