I suppose it's not really the most exciting farmers market if you're more familiar with the KCC one or ones where there's many prepared foods vendors. There was one prepared food vendor and one extra art vendor so not a whole lot to explore. There's a nearby playground where it's focused for the bigger kids since it's mostly climbing focused. The marketplace where this is located, if you aren't familiar, is filled with many stores that sell food and even have a Safeway grocery store. Parking was relatively easy on a Sunday since there's a big parking lot.

It wasn't very well organized, there was no sense of community, and pray little number of vendors. And there was a good number of vendors who had their boxed up products there but their booths weren't manned or even set up at start time. Believing that they were just running on island time, I waited a good 20-30 minutes, but I ended up losing interest. I took a few laps really intent on making some purchases. I ended up getting some fruit to throw into my fridge at the hotel which always comes in clutch, but there wasn't much else that was exciting. Only drop by if you're staying at or near the Hyatt Regency, and lower any expectations that you may have of a farmers market.

Tucked away right behind Mud Hen Water in Kaimuki, their entrance is small and kind of easy to miss. There are a few parking spots in front & a small door leading to some amazing fish. I believe you can walk in and buy fish/seafood by the pound, but I actually have a subscription where I pay X amount per month & get a "fair share" of fish per every 2 weeks. You can play around with the portion sizes and frequency too. I think currently I receive 1-1.5 lb of fish per share of whatever the catch of the week is. I absolutely love the fish I receive from Ashley. You know it's fresh, it's sustainable and proceeds go directly to local fisherman. Over the past few months, I have received so many different types of fish. Some common fish I see are sashimi grade mahi mahi, ono, and ahi. Sometimes the fishermen will bring in invasive species & I always try to grab those. I've picked up whole kanpachi and whole opakapaka. It's always a fun challenge to try and clean & break down a whole fish lol. I think the craziest thing I picked up from Ashley was mahimahi head & bones. It was actually offered for free, I ended up making mahi dashi and then picked off of the meat for lunch. On Saturday I picked up some sashimi grade striped marlin & a whole octopus. I made a marlin carpaccio and grilled octopus for dinner :) I just love how Ashley and the team make it easy for us to be more connected with our local food source. Although it's a tad more expensive than buying fish at a convenience store, it is nice to know that all the fish is coming from our local fishermen from our shores.

I just recently found this out when I visited the Farmer's Market few months ago, I panicked because I thought the are no longer having the market. If I was lived or work close by I would look forward to Wednesdays, the Honolulu Farmer's Market happens once a week from 4-7pm. Free parking , I try to make a stop here if I need veggies, fruits for the midweek. It is out of the way for me come from east side and coming from long work day, I am already exhausted. This Farmer's Market is smaller compared to the one at Kapiolani Community College on Saturdays, less than 20 vendors. Noticed some vendors from the KCC FM, a quick stop to 2 booths for Thai Banana, butter lettuce and chayote fruit. Got what I needed, quick walk to the end to see browse the other vendors. Although the food and drink booth looked great, one day I will make it a Honolulu Farmer's Market night where we go for our walk here, grab goods, enjoy and then walk back home! For this visit, I am happy with my produce, can't wait to prep my salads and cook a dish with the chayote. Love farm fresh veggies!!

I love the ambience of the vendor set up (simple and clean) with the ceviche containers were over ice and the guy who was selling the ceviche was nice. They gave to go tostadas, a cup of mayo and salsa with the ceviche. It was delicious and I'd recommend it to anyone. Tip: spread the mayo on the tostadas, add the ceviche to your tostada then top it with the salsa. It is finger licking good!
