I've banked with HAPO Community Credit Union for over 15 years. I disputed a charge where a merchant failed to deliver merchandise and did not issue a refund. Despite providing documentation and my history as a member, HAPO denied the dispute and sided with the merchant. The funds were not credited back to me, and I never received the merchandise. This experience seriously damaged my trust in the institution. Based on this outcome, I cannot recommend HAPO if you expect strong consumer protection when a dispute arises. read more

HAPO has lost its soul and they've forgotten where they came from. Found out from my CAR INSURANCE company that a NexisLexis score was affecting my insurance rates! Contacted NexisLexis and found out it was a late payment from HAPO affecting my score. Dug into it and discovered many years back when I paid off a HAPO credit card online (using the posted full amount due!) that my online payment didn't include the daily accrued interest! So, we were thinking it was paid off and really a $13 interest had built up in just the first 5 days of that month! Several months went by and a nice lady called me up telling me about the late payment fees that were accruing. I paid the $13 and they removed all the fees. But they didn't remove my Experian late payment record! So, years later, and thanks to WA state now connecting LexisNexis risk analyses to our insurance analytics, I have a red flag that will stay on my record for 10 years! I called up HAPO, showed them the proof of payments, the statements, including the month prior showing how much was owed. I implored that it was obvious that I had intended to pay it off because the two payments added up to the total amount owed on the statement sent out less than ten days before. Management agreed it was ridiculous. But in the end, they "couldn't" remove the record because "it was technically correct." I was faced with the reality that with HAPO, I was just a number. They were more concerned with this incident being "technically a late payment" than with helping their customer. Were they right? Meh. Was I right? Doesn't matter. Their online payment system remains vague and still doesn't warn or address this issue. Management told me that the only way to pay the full amount, including interest, is to call up a rep. No online warnings. No nothing. You tell me, if you weren't a corporation that was too large for your neighborhood, would you have cleared this record? $13! And now my insurance will be impacted for ten years! read more

I have never seen such a terribly run company with lack of customer service follow through. I left Hapo many years ago because they were a joke! Weird rules, policies, and fees, and they don't have a single ounce of care for their customers. When they deposited my paycheck into the wrong account, I had to fight hard to prove that the teller made the mistake (thankfully I was successful and got MY paycheck back). It was one horrible experience after another, so I left for another bank that I was extremely happy with for 20 years. Unfortunately, my beloved bank sold to Hapo... and now we cannot access our money at all, our cards don't work and Hapo is closed for the "transition" blackout. No support line, no nothing! We have plenty of money in our accounts, but Hapo has locked us out of our own money. I will be leaving Hapo for the 2nd time immediately!!! Not even at the bar. Below the bare minimum. On time payments 1 missed one and now they want to foreclose. I pay on time every month. Feel behind because you know life happens. Was fine the next month consistent on the payments. But they want me to make a double payment instead of just moving the 1 missed payment to the end of the mortgage. I can't do that. I have had other property and any other bank would offer different programs. They don't offer any help and when I found a program that is willing to make that 1 missed payment on my behalf they refused to work with the very people that can help pay the 1 missed payment. They are scammers and prey on people. DO NOT make any commitment to the this bank. they definitely aren't a credit union. They don't even embody what that is. A credit union is FOR people it's clients but they operate like a local bank instead. They should be required to change their name to match their business practices. I have auto pay for a car loan, the day it is set to come out I always get a call saying I missed a payment. They reported to Transunion that I never paid yet I showed them the bank statement showing I paid that month. This company is absolutely awful and can't figure out their own policy's. read more

I've never had so many issues with any bank or Credit union!! All i want to do is SIMPLY make my monthly payment & it's impossible they put a lock on my online Account for no reason throughout the year and back in September they withdrew a double payment so i called the HAPO representative instructed me cause it wasn't late there wouldn't be any issues and now I'm locked out from paying online FOREVER is what they are telling me and it takes 15-20 min. to pay over the phone and snail mail requires a Money order & they don't have a branch near me.. #IrritatedCustomer #AvoidHAPO read more

WOW! I have been extremely frustr ated with this Bank for months. I have been dealing with a situation that shouldnt have been as complocated as it turned out to be. I was going to cancel my account today but Anthony saved the day. And is only reason you have any stars in m y rating. He is the 4th person i talked to about the situation. All he had to do was a stop payment that was done over the phone. 3 previous ladys gave me the runaround and told me I had to go in there in person. Which is a bit complicated for me right now because I have a busted foot and cant drive. I even asked about a stop payment and whomever it was said I wouldn't help. One of them had me cancel my debit card and get a new one. 3 month's later. Anthony took care of things in 5 minutes. You guys should train your employees better and give Anthony a raise. read more

ATTENTION!! Anyone banking with Hapo be careful there are people calling from a Hapo credit union number and they are not hapo credit union they are scammers. It starts off with a fraud charge and then the fraud center calls you, well what claims to be the fraud center. If i were any of you and have the text set up for fraud i would reply to that first and call the fraud center yourself and or the bank first so that you get on a secure line. Also watch the phone call when on the line they switch mid call to a completely different number. They need to figure this out there lines are not secure at all. read more

I bought a car through a financial institution through Chevrolet who later sold my loan to HAPO. Later I decided to pay off my bills and get a credit card through HAPO as it sounded good from their junk mail. I realized that after transferring all my debt into HAPO, they had a bunch of hidden fees they didn't disclose. The bill transfers were marked as a cash advance. This after dealing with a real person throughout the process. I'm sure this was in the fine writing. However, this seems shady to me for someone wanting to pay off their debt by giving them more debt. I also received many junk mail letters asking to sign up for their life insurance. This seems like poor practice from a financial institution. I have since paid off the VISA debt and have used the credit card occasionally. Still, I was seeing additional charges that I don't recall signing up for. On the customer service side, using the chat was no problem. After speaking to a rep about paying off the car loan, I felt like they were trying to belittle me. My car loan and VISA are now paid off and I'm so happy to be rid of them. They are so greedily evil, they had the gall to repo the car in the middle of the night with my daughter's car seat and stroller in there along with other possessions of ours, gave us no notice. I barely had the account at the 4 N Union Kennewick WA office for 2-3 months when they started making "mistakes" like not processing deposits, then charging me NSF charges. I closed my account because of this; but I would like to add that the tellers there are the Rudest, most insulting people I've met in a Long time. All they say it "We can't do that" over and over. Well, if they can't perform the common duties of tellers at a credit union, why have an account with that credit union? I had a similar experience with hapo. Bought a camper from a dealership. Had to provide proof of insurance. Of which I did. 3 months later I get a bill that they added insurance to my loan, because I didn't provide proof of insurance. I sent them the insurance again to show I had insurance. Didn't matter still cost me a extra 500 dollars. So I paid off the loan and told them they would never see another penny from me. Lost a customer for 500 dollars. Not smart business. read more

I have a car loan with Hapo. Can't log into my account, when I call it's a complete nightmare and after 4 years still can't access my account. They do not send quarterly statements so I am pretty much in the blind and have to actually call to get any info. They said I have to go online to order quarterly statements yet I can't get into my account...Why can't they set that up per my request!!!! Never will refer this bank or organization to anyone!!!! I am always having issues by phone or online. I'm always needing to jump around between search engines and phone to get anything accomplished. I called this organization to request a skip payment. I was granted that request, however, they did not disclose at the time that I needed to stop the auto-pay. I talked with a representative on 7/26/23 to a representative to get the funds reversed. She kept saying we can't do it, but then finally asked for a screen shot. Then I asked what the process was and asked specifically if it would be wired back to our external account. She said "yes". I asked when would I see it, she said "at the end of the business day of 7/26/23" I thought everything was all good and thought, well, I better confirm. I called on 7/27/23 and of course, the representative I talked to was not available. I requested it be wired to my external account, she said "no I don't have that authority". She put me on hold to talk to a "supervisor". Came back on the line and said, oh no we don't do that. We went around and around. This is unacceptable for any business to not be able to wire back OUR funds back to our bank. UNACCEPTABLE! Do not recommend this company and as soon as we can, we will get rid of this loan. I have banked at credit unions all my life, I worked in credit unions across Washington State for eight years, and I've seldom had to interact with more small minded staff members than the contact center representatives. There is no room to see the bigger picture, it's follow exactly everything by the book. Let me give you my example: my mom died and had an auto loan at HAPO. I received documentation that they cancelled my mom's auto payment and I had to set it back up. I call in to make a payment to make sure it's up to date and I'm referred to the collections department. I ask to bring it up to date whatever that amount is. I was told that there was nothing she could do and she couldn't tell me what the payment amount was. Hello, bigger picture? I wanted to bring the loan up to date and you couldn't handle that? So I asked to transfer 1k from the savings account to the loan and she told me there was a $20 fee for payments over the phone. What a ridiculous idea. Oh, also, I'm renovating my mom's house and I needed a 6k cashier's check made payable to the contractor and the realtor would pick it up. Once I am verified through their identity verification over the phone, they can't handle that request? I was verified by them, and I asked to have a check made out to my contractor and left for someone to pick up... I was authorizing it. But they couldn't do that. I could, however, transfer the 6k to someone else who could physically enter to the branch and they could cut the check. Sooo.... I had my friend open a HAPO account online, I transferred the 6k to him, and he went in and had the check cut on a brand new account.. not sketchy at all.. but hey there are rules and I guess they best never leave any room for interpretation. So I'm going to drive from Seattle to eastern Washington to visit my nearest delightful HAPO branch next weekend. I recommend WSECU as an alternative Washington State credit union with more flexibility. Come on, you really couldn't take my payment over the phone transferred from the attached savings account without a $20 fee? Good riddance once I can sell the car. read more

DO NOT GET A CAR LOAN WITH THEM. They are crooks. You can not make principle payments they take out interest on any payment. If you make a payment by phone they charge you $20 dollars. If you make one yourself online they charge you $12 dollars. read more

Everytime I try to make a payment for my auto loan online it says I'm not registered to make payments. Won't let me do it on the app either. I usually use "Express Pay" but there is a $12 charge everytime you use it. The past 3 months I've tried making the payment but everytime I try to enter my information it zooms all the way in and won't let me type. If you can help it don't waste your time with this credit union. There are far far better ones available. I have refinanced with my credit union. WSECU. And I also got an interest rate 5% lower than what this place offers. The dealership had me go through HAPO but I'm glad this experience is coming to an end. **Update** This bank continues to be rude and condescending when I interact with them. There was a banking issue that resulted in my insurance auto-payments not going through. I had no idea, my insurance provider did not let me know. I found out by HAPO asking I provide proof of insurance. When I found out my insurance had lapsed, I resigned up that day. What was told me was "get us proof of insurance when you can" no big deal. When I called that I re-signed up for my insurance I was told (very rudely) that I would be charged for a service I didn't know I needed and never received any information about it. They are liars and provide horrible service. I wish I could easily get out of my financial relationship with them. They are one of the biggest source of stress in my life. AVOID HAPO! read more

I've been with Hapo for 14 years and have always been happy with them. The other year, someone snagged my debit card information from an online purchase I'd made. As soon as these hackers made a purchase with my card, Hapo caught it and notified me that some unusual activity was taking place with my account. I was able to get it fixed almost immediately. I was very impressed and pleased with how they took care of the situation. If you want a bank you will only be pleased with, choose Hapo Community Credit Union. You won't be disappointed. read more

Hapo is a monster that eats senior citizens money. I have been paying on my auto loan for over four years. I had a medical emergency a few years ago and my daughter explained to the collection department that I might be late on a couple payments. They were understanding and took the payments but reported me to the CREDIT RATING COMPANIES. They charge $20 to make a phone payment. One gal even put my monthly payment into my savings account and they charged me a late fee. The lady in charge of the collection department says "we have no control over the reporting of late pmts. ??????? What a DIP. I'm impressed with their service at the Richland branch, and Hapo overall has pretty competitive accounts locally for savings and checking. The lines here are generally short, and I have never had trouble depositing or withdrawing checks. Today the lines exploded right at lunch hour, and even the manager came out to start moving the lines along. Nice. Tomorrow is her 18th year working at this branch and she loves it. I am travelling internationally and she gave me valuable advice on staying safe financially with a debit card and traveler's cheques. Overall good service, knowledgeable employees, and short lines! Hapo is opening new locations in Moses Lake and expanding in Walla Walla. I hope that means they are doing something right! read more

I was going out of town Friday morning, and went to pull out cash before the bank was open. The ATM machine went crazy and did not give me any money, but said I withdrew $180. I was pretty upset, but saw an employee start to walk in, and I yelled out and asked her about what I needed to do. I ended up speaking with Kristin, and she was so very helpful, she took my receipt, and said she would fix this issue for me and not to worry. And within a couple of hours, the issue had been corrected. I was so very impressed with how she handled my situation (as I am sure it must be annoying to be confronted while walking into work). but so appreciate her taking the time to make sure that my situation was resolved. I called HAPO because when my husband and I leased our car Honda decided to do a pull for purchasing options and HAPO was one of the lenders they sent an inquiry to (we are not HAPO members). This is not something we were interested in nor something we asked for. When we brought this to Honda's attention they said that they could not remove the inquiry and told us we would need to request the inquiry be deleted either by the credit bureaus or by the banks themselves. So of course I called all three bureaus and they each said the same thing- each of the banks would have to be called individually and we would have to request a deletion letter for the inquiry. So I sit on hold with HAPO for 30 minutes waiting to speak to a customer service rep. Initially she was quite friendly and helpful. When I explained the situation to her she placed me on hold to see if this was something they could accommodate. When she returned her demeanor had completely changed. She was rude, curt and wholly unhelpful. She gave me multiple excuses for why they couldn't produce a deletion letter, why it wasn't their problem, and implied that it was my fault that Honda had done the inquiry and not their problem. I reiterated that both Honda and the credit bureaus said I needed to take it up with the banks and that I was just looking for resolution. She cut me off to tell me they wouldn't help me and rushed me off the phone. So I suppose I'm glad I'm not a member? But I also absolutely would not recommend if you like the kind of customer service that is helpful, solution oriented and treats people like people. read more

Looks like I'm in the same boat as others posting here! Problems from using them thru a dealer and insurance requirements. Rate was great, service is HORRIBLE!! I submitted proof of insurance when I bought my vehicle, not just the card we carry but the actual info needed. Week later responded to an E-mail requesting info, did that too. Now a month later I get threating e-mails about my failure to provide proof of Insurance. Called and turns out it is a 3rd party, never got the original I was told and when I sent it thru on-line the 2nd time they could not verify the info. I questioned them and turns out they called when my insurance company was closed and left it at that, never another follow up call. Waited on hold, was treated very rudely and told if I hung up they would not enter the info and charge me...WTH!!! So I called HAPO thinking it was reasonable to ask about the way the 3rd party company handled things. Now I know why the other company was horrible, so is HAPO! Told that is their policies, not the 3rd parties and the way it is...Another WTH!! I even asked if they got the original info from the dealer I provided and was told yes they can see it in the E-files. Was also told they don't use it when provided thru the dealer. "We'd never sell insurance if we didn't make you follow our rules" Definitely tells me about this company and Yep, I'm out and will make sure and share my experience when ever possible. Also I'll go back to the dealer to let them know how they treat customers and since I've purchased 20+ Vehicles there over the years I know they will listen. Had the same problem as everyone else. They charged $800 to force-place insurance for 11 days on my MINIVAN. Had four separate interactions with customer service and was given different responses each time that all turned out to be false. When I finally received the forced policy, it states that it covers "pleasure boats up to unlimited lengths." They literally purchased insurance for a YACHT to cover my minivan for 11 days. Any time I talk with customer service (whether over the phone or in the online chat) they are extremely condescending and rude. I have never once said anything impolite to them, yet they treat me like dirt. They have contracts with dealerships that include low auto interest rates, but they also have contracts with State National insurance company that allow them to recoup all the costs of those low rates, plus a huge bonus, all at the expense of the customer. Please, please, please stay away from these dirty criminals. read more
