Love this place! It's a much larger nail shop than the others in Encinitas, we had driven to 4 other shops and they were very small and the smell was very strong. This beautiful Nail shop was easy to get to and even as busy as they were they had a lot of staff to take us right in for a pedicure. There ventilation was great because we really didnt smell much of the nail polishes. They use plastic inserts so the bowls were clean and the massage felt great. This is my new favorite place to go for my hand and toe nails. The prices are much more reasonable than all of the other places we checked out too. read more

WORST manicure I've ever had and the WORST customer service. I made an appointment for a dip manicure with Lily (the owner). I had a dip manicure on which she didn't soak off - I questioned her and she said to just do a "fill". It's not how I typically get them done but I obliged. She "filled" the growth with clear dip powder. She had me go under the UV light for the base coat, which I questioned but again obliged. She had me go wash my hands and when I came back she had gel bottles of color, not the dip powder. I told her I did not want gel and I want dip. She insisted it's better and won't chip. I told her I booked a dip manicure, not a gel manicure and she told me she already did the dip (referring to the clear she applied to fill the gap). In the end she gave me a gel manicure, but not even a good one. She did a horrible job shaping them (not the shape I asked for) and the gel is incredibly thick and lumpy. I told her how it looked bad and you could see the gap where she "filled it" and she tried to put more polish on it. I told her no because it already looks super thick. She made no apologies. She then told me it was $25. I should have refused to pay but I gave her my card. I see my receipt and see $45. I told her I thought she said $25. I exclaimed "$45 for this"! I didn't tip and walked out. After I tried to cool off, I came back in. She eventually offered to redo it but I told her I had no time to sit there and soak off and redo it as my daughter would be up from her nap soon and I'm leaving town the next morning. I should age demanded a refund, but I didn't. I told her I was disappointed in my nails and service and she couldn't care less. I would NOT recommend Lily or this nail salon. read more

I have gone there, frequently, for years, however if there is not a stop to this tactic, i will go elsewhere. A couple of the nail technicians have pressured me to pay in cash. It happened again, when i was there, very recently. It doesnt necessarily have to do with their work but it makes me uncomfortable & i really dont want to pay in cash. I would hope that management oversees this and puts a stop to it. Also, the nail technician i worked with recently overcharged me. Sounds like retaliation when i wouldn't pay cash. This is a very tacky maneuver and should be reported to Managment. I dont know who management is, & dont really want to put the energy into finding out. I managed to do a face plant on the stairs in front of Happy Nail Salon today having misjudged a step. The manager apparently noticed my low quality dive and summoned three or four of his staff who came to my assistance. The staff triaged me, immediately whipped out a small medical kit and treated my minor scrapes. I left with the only real damage done to my ego. I cannot recommend this place. I had a good pedicure experience at this place last year. But yesterday I came once again for a pedicure with callous removal, for which I paid extra (no nail painting). Not a single callous was removed, though I did receive a very light massage and minor nail trimming for what was close to $40. When I asked for the callouses to be addressed, the very rude woman at the front desk offered a reduction of $5. The man who had done such a poor job lectured me on the need to come several times to address callouses, while I tried to explain that a young woman there had previously done a fine job with one session. It phased neither the arrogant woman at the front desk, nor the man who had done a poor job. While mistakes can be made, their total lack of concern for quality service, customer satisfaction and customer retention makes it impossible to recommend them. read more

I have been coming into this shop for about ten years now, since I was 13. I am finally done coming in. Over the years, I've gotten very good service as well as very bad service, and recently the bad has taken over. I won't go in depth, but to sum it up, these people have horrible attitudes (they will roll their eyes and their entire demeanor is just horrible), their work isn't great most of the time and sometimes it's just really bad, and they don't use clean tools for every person. They have cheap prices and if you get the right people, you can take advantage of their specialities to get a decent set of nails, that's why I kept going back along with the fact that they're 3 min from my house. Lady rolling eyes after I picked the basic and then did a horrible job painting, distracted talking to friend while "massaging" and didn't help put on my sandals and then rolled her eyes when I had to ask for her to help fix them when I accidentally smudged. Unfortunately my nails are jacked up. I went in for a removal of my acrylic nails done by a different nail salon new by (they have been on for 2 weeks) it was cheap (10$) but instead of soaking them off or any attempt to separate the acrylic from the nail she cut them down then took a plastic nail and very painfully shoved it between the acrylic and real nail prying it off. I now have a crack down my main finger. On a postive note I've gone here before and my gel nails were nice but expensive. read more

I've given them a few chances because I used to come here all the time and loved it. The quality and service has gone downhill. The last 2 gel manicures I've gotten have only lasted a week. I went into today for a mani padi and the gal did my nails like she was mad at me. The pedicure was so rushed and everything she did was so ROUGH. The manicure was even worse. When she put the alcohol on after the for my fingers started burning and when I looked closely it's because I have cuts (like paper cuts) all around my cuticles from how roughly she "buffed" my nails. I got my nails done 2 hours ago and they still hurt. I then had to go back and forth with her 7 TIMES that I would not be paying with cash or Venmo. This business has always accepted card and there are no signs stating it's cash only. She told me next time I need to pay with cash or Venmo. There will not be a next time for me. read more

went with a group of girls today for a mani/Pedi. Of the 5 of us I was the last one finished and nails looked horrible... The gal that applied my polish said we needed to wait for the polish to dry more before applying top coat. A different gal, who had done my pedicure came over fanned my nails with a menu and applied the top coat before the polish had even somewhat dried leaving my polish streaky & transparent and then sent me on my way with wet nails. So... I definitely should've read reviews before I dropped into this nail salon. Last night at 6:10 pm I decided to drop in and get a quick mani/pedi. I know they close at 7 but I don't do polish so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. First off, after I tell the man at the front what I would like to have done he proceeds to have some kind of a back and forth argument with the lady that he is asking to do my nails while she is eating her dinner. After 2 minutes of them arguing he tells me to sit in chair 1. When I say this is the most rushed mani pedi I have had I am not exaggerating. The woman did both my hands and feet in 30 minutes. She aggressively filed, clipped, removed calluses, etc. She didn't even acknowledge me, ask how my night was, nothing. So I'm a pretty understanding person usually but this was completely unacceptable to me. I somehow ended up with none of my fingernails being the same length or shape?! And she didn't even offer to buff them even though I asked for no polish! I ended up spending $50 on this ridiculous manicure and pedicure with insanely terrible customer service. Always have gotten gel mani/ pedi, because of a particular nail tech -is the only reason for return. Can easily spend $100+ here on just that, but I can't agree with the middle-aged nasty hag at front desk on Customer Service for that amount! She does a lot of gossip & (yes certain nail shops have stigma for talking in different language about the customers), but one can feel it here/ very chilling -she's not slick/ discrete. Very inappropriate, disrespectful, and unprofessional. Every now & again she'll give a smirk, but that is simply more confirmation (since no words= weird). Also confirming her behavior is our phone exchanges; I haven't fed into it yet, but she is just as disgusting/ condescending/ snobbish &, patronizing just trying to make an appt. One recent ph call, ehe berated/ scolded me as if I was her high schooler - not sure why. Have had no negative interactions there, I pay & tip, and consistent with visits/ appts. #Clueless# Google Translator.... whr are u? Haha. In any event, I have watched her be extremely biased partial/ bigoted towards certain individuals when they enter or exit. Goes out of her way (with greeting, saluation, or gratitude) for... and a few others (she feels is not alike) she WONT SAY ANYTHING (not bye, not thank you, see you later: NOTHING - very rude & cunning. The atmosphere or vibe is sinister or menacing (like being in a fish bowl) due to all the stares from the 'workers' (probably from whatever is going around from the boss lady/ tainted weak leadership). The stars are only for the outcome of my nails & the nail tech who at least keeps a good game face/ business conduct. This usually is my Go to and absolute favorite nail salon as I've never had issues there and the staff are incredible but today i had a new employee who I had not seen since I moved back from college and I was unfortunately disappointed in how clean my acrylics came out, even asking him to fix it there is a gel polish on the edge of my cuticles and he missed multiple spots on my nail. However I did have an incredible pedicure today and do not want to fault this amazing buisness I just would make sure you ask for a more experienced nail tech for acrylics. The purple nails are my last set and my pink ones are the ones I got today.. I will be back but making sure I ask for a better nail tech! read more

Worst experience-I tried them after just moving here and I'll NEVER go back. My cuticles look horrible. Tu was very aggressive pushing down when cutting my cuticle. I've never had that happen before and I've been getting my nails down for over 35yrs! She had to polish my toes twice because it was uneven polish and she put the top coat on so fast it bubbled. Not pleased at all. I called them over the phone and asked the price to remove my old acrylic nails and get a new set with a french tip design I was told it would be $53. I go in and get told them price of getting a new set was $75 if I kept my nails on and filled them in. Then they told me it was $80 because I was asking to get the french tip design done. I went along with it not realizing I was being overcharged when my 50 dollar nails (removal of old nails, new nails and design) from another business were nicer than this current set. I was told I was "saving money" by keeping my old set, a new set would've been 93 dollars. Not only all of that but these nails have chipped severely shortly after getting them done. I've had sets where they did not chip at all while doing the same activities I'm currently doing. This place is a waste of your money!! read more

By the next day it was actually bubbling and peeling off. I called and was told the owner Rose would take care of it. I drove over there and Rose would not make it right. My mobile pedicurist moved out of state and I have been to Happiness nails twice so far. This is a booming business in Encinitas and they have a steady stream of guests that keep the nearly 20 spa stations full. 3 Stars is A-ok, this is a chop shop for the most part. They were quick and efficient and my nails look good. Each of the spa stations contained a disposable plastic liner, which I hate to see, but know is needed in this setting. Nobody wants nail fungus! Some of the issues include staff conversations in another language while performing pedicure services. This is a pet peeve of mine as I never know if they are talking smack about the clientele or about themselves. This is inappropriate in any service position, the customer needs to be the center of attention. On my first visit I got started with a gal that I liked and after she removed the polish and started scrubbing my feet a new person took over, and I did not like the new gal nearly as much. After my pedicure was done I noticed that her technique was mediocre as well, so I guess I got the bait and switch. Today I stopped by and it was 9:20, they open at 10 but they said come in and were happy to start work early, and I appreciated their flexibility very much. I had sleeping kids at home to entertain so i was not planning on the massage, the deep scrub, a pedicure or any other treatments. She asked me at least two times whether I wanted each of them and got a bit pushy when I declined. I thought it was rude to keep pressuring me, but then I dismissed it on cultural norms. So if you are in the mood for a pedicure, Happiness is a decent bet in Encinitas. The wait is short, the quality is decent, and they seemed to be employing sanitary practices. 3 stars for those things. read more
