If you are coming here expecting a high quality meal this is not the place for you. The food quality is ok but it's nothing to write home about. However the quantity of food, the price, and the fast service, is worth a quick visit. This lunch meal, large bowl of soup, and hot tea was all under $15. I had plenty to take home for a second meal later in the week. The restaurant does not play any loud music, which I like. It's one of my go to spots if I want something quick and filling. read more

Went for lunch today on a whim and I was not terribly impressed. I had gotten takeout from here once before I think. It was somewhat better than that, but not great. Pros - Service was *very* quick, prices very low, portion size fairly generous, it is nice that the lunch specials are daily and not just weekdays, the complimentary tea, and the large size of the restaurant (it's big I think for a downtown district) Cons - Service, while quick, was very impersonal and brusque, and the food itself was ... I ordered the "general chicken" (I think better known as General Tso's chicken, though I suppose general chicken is more apt). The meat was cooked fine, but the coating was awfully crispy, like to an extreme. Some may enjoy that, I thought it was a bit much. It was swimming in a bright neon pinkish red sauce, and served on the same plate as the lo mein I got as my side. For a place with only a 3 star average, the reviews are relatively glowing. Most mention it is Americanized Chinese food (read as horrid). Our very first experience tonight and we chose a pickup order so we could eat with our toddlers in comfort at home. I'd have to rate this a total fail... My wife had less than half her spicy chicken before firmly saying she couldn't stand it anymore. The sauce was neon and disgustingly sweet. The rangoon were ONLY cream cheese with no hint of crab or even krab anywhere. My teriyaki made me realize i have had better tasting (and easier to eat) pieces of rubber. The wings were a total lack of flavor experiance and apparently all the oil in the restaurant lives in the sweet & sour chicken pieces. Perhaps to make up for the complete LACK of moisture in the meat itself...? The egg roll was as generic as possible and I am 100% positive that sauce contained grenadine syrup. (I am an off & on bartender, so i know that taste.) My 2 dogs were thrilled at all the meat scraps they got, but my wife and i went running for the pepto after the rest hit the trash bin. read more

I've been coming here for 10+ years and that always are consistent with food and mostly drink, the drinks are mixed perfect and the people that are working there have been there the whole time and are beyond nice, couldn't recommend this place anymore if you want perfect scorpion bowls and a cozy Chinese restaurant give them a try read more

We went here for lunch on Christmas Eve. It was pretty good! The only thing I didn't like was how fatty the boneless pork was but it was tasty! We had the sesame chicken, crab Rangoon, and boneless spare ribs. The whole meal came to $21 bucks. You can't beat that price. We will definitely be back to try some more food on the menu. read more

My family pretty much only likes one dish, the general chicken (best with white rice), which can be a hit or a miss. When it's done right it's spectacular and when it's not it's dried out and hardly edible. I suspect at these times the food is not made to order. If you dine in, for example, it sometimes comes out way too fast to have been made just for you. Consistency has been a problem here for years, I'd pay substantially more for higher quality control standards on a consistent basis. The people that work and run the place, however, have always been very friendly. We still dine in or take out occasionally but with some long pauses when the consistency wanes. Definitely one of the best Chinese food restaurants in Maine. Food is delicious. My favorite dishes are house lo main I always have them make it spicy. And the po po platter for 2. The spare ribs and beef teriyaki are unlike I have had at any other Chinese restaurant. Also the mai tai and scorpion bowls are delicious as well. read more

I'm shocked by some of these reviews honestly. I live in FL and come to maine every year and drive for miles to this place for the food. Florida Chinese is horrible and I can't wait every year to stop here. I have never had a bad a meal. They make their own duck sauce which i love. Most places in FL give little packets of slime like sauce. Yuk! The chicken teriyaki is the bomb. It's all white breast meat. In FL the chicken is made with a red sauce so it makes the chicken red and the meat is fed on the stick as a ribbon. I very much dislike FL Chinese and it's the same everywhere down there. One of my favs is the seafood hot and sour soup. Can't find it in florida anywhere. I've tried for years! I miss having good food. So when I visit. Stopped by last weekend with a party of 8 and they are always accommodating to large groups, the restaurant is outdated but still cute in its own way. The service is fast. Happy Dragon has been there seemingly forever. It looks a bit cheesy from the outside and it's not upscale inside. It's not even the best Chinese that you'll find in Biddeford. But there's plenty to like about the Happy Dragon. First, it's got the advantage of being like a real restaurant inside. You won't think you're eating in a take-out place when you're in the dining room. Second, there's the service. It's friendly and communication is great. They talk, they smile, and they understand. It's nice. Third, it's a local hangout. People go there and find their friends or neighbors eating a few tables over. There are a ton of regulars in the dining room. Finally, there's the price. If there are two of you eating dinner at the Happy Dragon, look for the "for 2" entrees. We split the Marco Polo and some tea for dinner. We left full, took home enough for another meal, and paid about $17.50 including tax and tip. If we had gotten the more expensive Seafood Lo Mein, it would have been about $21. We'll spend more than that having breakfast at the Palace Diner. Oh, and the lunch menu shows a bunch of choices for about $5. If you think you're going to do better than this, you're probably on your way over to Mulligan's. It's not amazing food but it's a good deal and it's consistent enough that it keeps the locals coming back. Don't be afraid. Go to the Happy Dragon expecting a decent cheap meal and you won't be disappointed. Just don't think you're going someplace fancy and don't expect to close your eyes and think you've been magically transported to Beijing or Shanghai. It's a reasonable Chinese restaurant in Biddeford and here on Yelp it meets the official definition of 3 stars, which is A-OK. read more

Happy Dragon is good but not great. I have had their General Tso's chicken here (one of my favorite Chinamerican dishes) and didn't like it. The breading was to heavy and doughy and the sauce was too sour and not sweet enough. It was probably one of the worse Gen. Tso's I've had. That being said I don't think that it speaks for the rest of the menu as a whole. I've had their Broccoli in Brown Sauce (yes, I had a hankerin' for just broccoli one night) which was excellent and the portion was huge. The dinner menu is around $8-$10 and comes with the usual soup and app. The egg roll was good, the hot and sour, so-so. I know I've had something else there too but can't remember. Since I live 2 blocks away I always just get take-out but the interior looks nice. In fact it seems well visited around dinner time and is definitely a place I'd bring family if they wanted to sit down and have Chinese. I didn't know there was anything else until I moved into an area that had a Chinatown community. Anyway, I always like eating at the Happy Dragon because it is a good value for what you spend. Also they have a full bar and can mix up some awesome scorpion bowls. And since it is located right in the heart of downtown it's easy to get takeout or you can sit in the restaurant which is always clean. The waitstaff are friendly and service is quick. We came to Happy Dragon because Jewel of India (down the street) was closed for vacation. What a nice surprise - this is the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. I typically don't go for Chinese food at all given how it makes me feel afterwards. None of their dishes here did that. I really enjoyed the Szechuan chicken (but felt it could have been spicier) and General Tso's chicken. Their sauces in the dishes are really good. Even the egg roll was chock full and tasty. I would happily come back here, since the service was friendly, or order take out. The BEST Chinese food we have ever had. Tons of local folks were telling me to try this one. We recently bought a home in Sanford from Westbrook. We went on a Friday night around 8:30, we ate in. We both were seated fast, and greeted by our waitress who was very nice. 2 meals with 2 sodas (even tho they had a full bar, but we had to drive home after) came to 23.00. the food was absolutely amazing.
