Absolutely terrible. I would give this place less than one star if I could. My entire family--except for one person--ate this Chinese food, and every single one of us who did got sick. Had high hopes for this place. We were disappointed. The food tasted off and just plain gross. We hoped this would be the go to for Chinese food but we will not be returning. We're unsure if the meat was old or bad but it definitely tasted gross neither of us finished our food and we ended up tossing it out. Also the inside isn't for dining at all. Visiting family in the area and had no choice, but to order from this Chinese restaurant. BIG REGRET! .. reviewers stating the food is excellent is beyond me!!! I asked for broccoli and garlic sauce and they gave me some type of orange sweet sauce drenched over garlic! I called to ask if I had gotten the right order and she proceeded to try and convinced me that garlic sauce is sweet! HOW??? Garlic and sugar two different flavors! Clearly it was some type of sweet dipping sauce with tons of food coloring in it because it stained my counter top! Service was rather quick because they don't put any thought or care into making food. I can't imagine what other dishes taste like. Absolutely disgusting. Which around our area is the best Lo mein ( full of flavor, and just the right amount of sauce, not salty at all) Since the pandemic, only aloud two people inside to pick up Togo orders, masks must be worn, all guidelines of CDC are followed. read more

Best Chinese Restaurant in Mt.Effort, PA. I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

I have not been here in 9 or 10 years. But the past few days I felt like having Chinese food. I ordered BBQ SpareRibs with Pork Fried Rice and also ordered Chicken Chow Main with Pork Fried rice. Well I started with the Chicken Chow Main and there was little or NO Chicken in it and there was NO pork in the Pork Fried rice. Then I went to the BBQ spare ribs and the ribs were OK but there were NO Pork in the Pork Fried rice........ It cost me $22 butttt I know everyone has been raising their price with Covid. Butttt I know many other Chinese Restaurants at the same price will give you more Pork in their Porkfried rice and Lots more Chicken in the Chicken chow main.......I am glad I stopped by and it will be my last time since I know they are on the Lower end of the Chinese restaurants in the area............ read more

Since my previous review 7 years ago, Happy Family was sold. At that point the food quality has slowly but consistently gone downhill. It's never been bad, but surely hasn't deserved the 5 stars that the old owners had earned in my eyes. Today this became even more apparent when I found a inch piece of metal in my rice. We returned the $60 or so order that my family made since we can no longer feel safe eating the food. I'm not sure if/when I'll ever go back. read more

First time I've eaten, but my girlfriends family are(were) regulars. From other Chinese take out places I've been to this place is most certainly on the bottom end of things. Prices are high and the food is lacking in flavor and in content. The chicken on a stick particularly costs 7 dollars but you only get about 8 sticks with one little piece of chicken that is quite fatty and may contain bones. It's nothing like its past where the chicken on the stick was loaded one end to the other. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Happy family is tucked away in a small plaza and not identifiable from the road due to an unassuming front.The interior of the restaurant is very small, with four tables for anyone who decides to dine-in. The decor is not particularly comfortable, and sometimes employees personal effects are strewn about a table, suggesting the long hours put in by staff. Given the outdated and often cluttered interior, i remain undeterred as the staff and food outweigh the negatives. With that said, the staff is extremely friendly and more than willing to suggest items from their large, albeit standard American-Chinese menu. Prices are reasonable and sit average with the area. Tiny restaurant in a strip mall on rt115. Don't be fooled by the location though! The Chinese-American food is great, fresh, and made quickly. It's family owned and they are super friendly. A solid 3-3.5, considering the area is lacking options. We pit stopped here on a road trip, you will only find dingy pizza places and a deli within 5mi of this place. Since this was sold, the quality of the food has gone terribly wrong! Each time we order from there, I feel sick after eating. We order occasionally hoping something will change but this past week was the final chance. We understand they cannot do anything to improve the eyesore of the exterior of the building but I question the inside. There seems to be no heat, I stopped by to pick up my dinner a few cold nights ago and it was colder inside than it was outside. Again, the food has slid way down the scale of quality. Each order seems to worse than the last. We brought our order home last week, my husband pulled the egg rolls from the bag and they were dripping with grease... not a little...A LOT! We wrapped them in handfuls of napkins to attempt to dry them up... we thought we did ok. Went into the living room to eat and relax... put a stack of napkins on the arm of my couch, laid the egg roll on that and when I picked it up, the napkins were soaked in grease and the arm of the couch soaked in grease! I threw my food away. I cannot get that grease stain off my couch...not even Dawn dish soap works. It is about 4 days after and my house stinks like grease. Please don't waste your money. read more

Don't be fooled by the location! This place has great food!! I usually order about once a month or so. The food is very fresh and the taste is even better. I love the boneless ribs with shrimp fried rice. It is owned by one family and they are very nice people. The prices are not bad either.
