A few of my friends said this is their favorite Chinese takeout so I finally made it up to give it a shot. I got the shrimp with garlic sauce combo and an order of Szechuan wontons. The woman was friendly and spoke solid English. The establishment was downright greasy...but honestly what Chinese place isn't? The wontons themselves had very little filling in them. It was all crunch and no body. The sauce was also just ... not good. Tasted closer to American bbq sauce than it did any spicy Szechuan sauce I've ever had. Also zero spice to the sauce. There were also peas and carrots in the container. Like ... what? This was a huge letdown. I ate 2. The shrimp with garlic sauce had 4 shrimp in the container. The shrimp tasted great, and their garlic sauce was solid, but 4 shrimp. I should have gotten the chicken. I normally order chicken with broccoli and have them sub garlic sauce when I get Chinese takeout. I should have done that. There was also a plethora of vegetables in this that were just taking up the space the shrimp were missing from. Baby corn, water chestnuts, large chunks of mushroom/onion/pepper, snowpeas...you name it. The one highlight of the food here was the fried rice wasn't just generic yellowish rice in a container. I realize this is a strong statement, but in the two days we have been in Pennsylvania, this was the greatest Chinese food I have had. We are only staying for three days. Even though there was only takeout available and the restaurant was rather small, the dish had an incredible flavor. It was well worth the effort. The cuisine is served in a very large portion, and the staff is genuinely kind. The service was also excellent. We were craving for Chinese food while we were at Great Wolf Lodge. Words cannot express how quickly we devoured the dish because it was really that delicious. We've been going there for years. A couple years ago the food got so consistently bad, we quit for a couple years. Recently we started again, and while it was far from the best, it was still ok. Now, after giving them another shot, I got something that was horrid. I called them and after some discussion, they told me I had to bring my food back to get my $4.00 credit. Obviously it is not the money. It is the combination of their total lack of customer appreciation, poor quality food and miserliness. I ordered food here on my lunch break because of the many positive reviews. Upon arrival at Five Star I was a bit concerned, as their restaurant was downright filthy. The front area of the restaurant had accumulated grease and grime on their pictorial menus, the counter, the wall, etc. I'm not a prude, and I get that some of the best food in the world comes out of street vendors and places that don't meet US standards of food service cleanliness, but this was shocking primarily because it was so visible to the customer and so built up. Afterwards, I went onto the state's Food Safety Inspector webpage and saw that this restaurant has been cited multiple times for cleanliness issues, including leaving rags out, not properly using their sink to wash their hands, and the built up grease and grime I discussed (amongst other things). The food was good -- not great, but definitely good. I'm giving them 3 stars because, again, I'm not a prude about cleanliness and the food was actually good. I watched them make my food, so I was certain it wasn't done poorly or contaminated in any way, but had I not seen them make my food I may have hesitated to eat it based on the condition of the customer-area in their restaurant. If I needed a quick bite to eat I might consider them again, but I do hope they clean up. read more

This restaurant is definitely one of, if not the best Chinese restaurant in the area. I grew up eating authentic Chinese food in the restaurants Chinese people frequented in Chinatown NYC, whose best friend's mother taught Chinese cooking in Queens, in addition to traveling to China, and this restaurant come closest to the real thing as I've encountered in my 20+ years in the area. My least favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Their prices are good don't get me wrong, they have the most affordable Singapore mei fun in the area as far as I've discovered, but they don't do good business. I ordered a lunch special chicken and broccoli once (like $5-$6) And was charged nearly $9 because they put it down as a combo and threw in an egg roll. Another time they charged me for a tip I didn't approve. I noticed. I told myself I wouldn't order from them again but I did once more out of convenience and was not thrilled. I waited 20 minutes of my husbands 30 minute break waiting for a single egg roll. I absolutely love this Chinese place! As a vegetarian they offer a lot of veggie loving options and also will accommodate you if you'd like to alter certain dishes! I usually get either the veggie lo mein or fried rice and then get extra veggies and fried tofu! I have been going to this take out Restaurant since right after they opened in this location. It was convenient, prices fair..and portions reasonable. They are usually busy which is a good indicator of how others feel about this Chinese spot. However, the last two times I have ordered for pick up.... the food has been below the quality I have come to expect. The first time I attributed it to the newish staff and counter guy. I was used to the lady manning the front and doing the fry and it was always spot on. Tonight after a lull, we opted to try again. I should have realized a problem could be forthcoming as they gave me a ten minute turn around, which is not normal, as I was told that they were not busy. Unusual for a Saturday at 6 pm. I ordered by phone and my food was waiting when I got there. Not only was an item missing which I did pay for, but the food was lacking the quality I have come to expect. It was cold and my shrimp dishes were lacking the usual amount of shrimp I had always had before. In fact one was missing the shrimp entirely. Now I could have gone back and had them redo the order while I waited, but instead of driving back over, waiting, and driving back ... we ate so as not to have a late dinner. I'm not sure I will be going back but I do plan on returning with my menu/ receipt and my complaint. ' I really can't recommend this spot any longer until either the original staff is back. The last time I went there, January of 2016, the normal front counter guy was not there. The place was a little slow and the cooks were not busy. Both cooks were playing with their mobile phones, then put the phones away and started to handle the food with their bare hands - no washing, Someone was in the back, behind the large chiller, smoking cigarette. The place wreaked of smoke. hen after the food was cooked they spilled some onto the prep area while pouring the food into the takeout tray. The VERY VERY Chinese food in the Pocono's! I go so many times, they just start cooking when the see me. Also when I call, they know me by voice and call me by name.
