I was not sure what to make of Happy Feet Spa, having passed it a zillion times over the years. I received a gift certificate last Christmas and finally made an appointment recently. I think you can just walk in, but I don't know if there's a guarantee you'll see someone right away if you do. I made my appointment for 6pm on a Friday for the 1 hour foot massage. The lighting is low and the atmosphere quiet except for some noise of massages taking place. I saw all ages and genders of people walking in and out. The masseuse put a towel over my shoulders and did some light massage there. Then I was instructed to lie back in a recliner and put my feet up on an ottoman. I was given a blanket to cover up with, and I must have been warm and relaxed enough to fall asleep (I woke myself up by snoring - so embarassing). I felt GREAT after 60 minutes of feet/leg massage and it definitely alleviated some recent foot pain I've had. I tipped in cash and was on my way. I would 100% do this again! read more

This is definitely my favorite self-care activity in Rochester. My wife and I go regularly for feet massages and the quality of the massages are unmatched! I've had MANY different masseuse over the years and each has been well trained in their craft and it shows. There's generally same day availability first thing in the morning which is helpful when life throws you lemons. There's two reasons for four stars and not five: The folks working can become chatty which briefly distracts the relaxing vibe of the massage and the place itself could use a bit of an update with clean linen/massage chairs/pillows. Bit of a mysterious place. Not your upscale spa but seems to always be very busy and popular. Although I had an appointment (as most seemed to have) it kind of felt like first come, first served. At what seemed to be a predictable time, a fair number of attendants came to the front to bid their clients goodbye with a glass of water. Everyone seemed happy and relaxed after their service. When prompted you are sent down a dim walkway past rooms with beaded doorways. Most workers seemed not to speak English or maybe understood and only communication seemed to happen with motion directives rather than words. The vibrating/massage chair and ottoman in my room was probably one of the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in but did seem to be a bit old and worn and not the cleanest. I would recommend a fresh sheet covering between guests. I was there for a foot reflexology session (first timer) which involved more than my feet which was fine. It was quite relaxing and I was very satisfied with the service and would more than likely return (maybe bring my own sheet) and would recommend for anyone. Can't comment on the massage service but I did notice as I walked through that they had couples massage rooms. I do have to wonder about the licensure of the workers as I did not see anything displayed like I have at other spas. Joined a friend here for the first time today - she is a regular but I tried out their deal on Groupon. I am not a fan of pedicures so I was a bit worried I might not enjoy this experience but it was fabulous. Kristi, The young woman who took care of me, was small but mighty! Great neck and shoulder massage followed by wonderful lower leg and foot massage. I think if you become a regular and buy their punchcard the pricing is even better than Groupon. I have been to this establishment multiple times. I've had the best foot massage ever, and I've had many before. I've also had the full body massage many times. I've had 3 different men giving me a massage this year and all 3 gave me an excellent massage. Things to understand before you go: The person giving you a massage probably doesn't speak English. If you have instructions you need to convey, the lady at the front can translate Tips need to be given directly to the masseuse. Bring cash for that. This establishment is VERY POPULAR. It is best to make a reservation. If you walk in, it is a crap shoot as to whether or not you can get in. Please don't blame them. They are doing the best they can. You need to tell the wonderful lady at the front desk where you parked. She will make sure your parking is validated. I highly recommend this business. Had a good experience here for a 60 min foot massage. I was able to book a spot a day ahead no problem. People were trying to book same day and they were all booked, so I suggest making a reservation if you can. They bring you back into a dimly lit hallway with music playing. The space is very quiet and peaceful. First you get a shoulder/neck massage while you soak your feet. Then you go into a recliner and they use a warming lotion on your feet and lower legs while they massage your feet for ~30-40 minutes. Then there is a hot stone massage on your feet and lower legs. Afterward, they put warm towels on your legs and feet and you are finished. It was $45 for a 60 minute service which is very affordable. Don't forget to bring cash for the tip! I had been going here for years but wont anymore: The only good thing is that the massages are strong and good. The bad- The rooms are unclean, you can see it for yourself when you are sitting for a foot massage and the body massage rooms across are not cleaned/ sheet are unchanged and just rearranged between customers. The therapists don't wear masks or are using it as chincups , they have strong body odor in spite of me wearing a mask and the place is crammed up with people closely. So in a pandemic, and for skin infections related to used sheets while getting body massages enter at your own risk. read more

I visit Happy feet every three or four months, usually with a friend, for a little relaxation and they have never disappointed... At least with the foot massage. I haven't tried the full body and probably won't as I already have a place that I'm happy with. To start, there may be a little language barrier with making a reservation but I have never had a problem. Also, there is a line of about 8 chairs that are in a semi-public hallway. I don't mind this area as it is dimly lit, warm and comfortable with chairs grouped in pairs. There is plenty of privacy for this type of massage. Please, turn off the cell phone (it's only for an hour) so as not to disturb the other patrons... and save the gossip for one of the fine eating establishments in the neighborhood... Again, only an hour. If you prefer, you can request one of the two chair rooms for a little more privacy. They will accommodate that if they can. Wear shorts or pants with legs that can be rolled up to your knees. It will make everything go much smoother. Also, they will try to upsell you for $2 for the lotion. I think that it's worth it, especially with the reasonable cost of the reflexology service. You start off with a five minute foot soak and shoulder massage. There are a lot of people on the staff so the intensity has ranged from a little too gentle to, well, pretty intense. I personally like deep tissue so the harder the better... But let them know if it's a little too hard for you. They dry your feet with a towel and lay you back in a comfy reclining chair with nice blanket... And then the magic begins! About 20 minutes per foot (with the other foot wrapped in a towel so it won't get chilly) followed by hot rocks and hot towels. Amazing! It usually even lulls me into a little nap. I will say again that, while all of the staff follow the same series of massage techniques, they do it with varying intensity. Let them know if it's too much. Also, if you already have foot or ankle pain I would suggest holding off on Happy Feet until you get that taken care of. This is a relaxing massage and, while it soothes the feet and the soul, it is not designed to accommodate heal spurs, plantar fasciitis, bad arches or any other foot issue... In other words, it will hurt... a lot! Don't do it! I always leave floating on a cloud. You can try them out at a reasonable cost on Groupon and, if you like it as much as I do, buy the punch card. Great value and it reminds you to do something awesome for yourself from time to time. Don't forget to tip... They just spent an hour massaging your feet for goodness sake... They deserve it! A friend referred us to this place because she loves it and comes all the time. There was a groupon for a one hour foot massage so we jumped on the opportunity to go. They are very flexible with the times they can see you. We called the same day we bought the groupon and they told us they could accommodate both of us at 130. We were able to sit next to each other. The rooms are set up to where There are 2 chairs in a room and the rooms are separated by walls and the doors are beads. I read the reviews before we came and a lot of them mentioned $2 extra for lotion. When the person who was giving us the massage asked us if we wanted it we just said yes. I'm not sure if they use lotion if you don't buy this $2 lotion, But I would think getting a massage without it would be pretty difficult and uncomfortable. I'm still confused about this. I'm now on my third Happy Feet spa, buy-four-get-one-free foot-massage cards, so I think it's time for a review. I love this place! First, yes, you can walk in and get a foot massage, but be prepared to wait. Better that you make a reservation, even if you stop in casually, make it, go grab a coffee or snack, and then come back. Second, wear loose fitting pants. You will have to roll up your pant legs to soak/wash your feet, and the massage also includes your ankles and calves. Third, splurge the $2 for the massage cream. Who wants to be massaged with petroleum jelly?? Not me. Fourth, make sure you put your phone on vibrate and lean back and relax. You might fall asleep. That's OK. I hear snoring in there all the time. Finally, the experience is very touchy-feely. While your feet are soaking in a tub of warm water lined with a plastic bag, your shoulders and neck will be massaged by the person assigned to you. I was not expecting this the first time I went in, but now I love it. After the soak, they will dry your feet and transfer you the reclining chair - replete with pillows and blanket! Then the foot massage begins. After they have done both feet, all your pressure points and all your toes, your ankles and calves, they will also massage up your legs to your thighs. First time this happened I laughed out loud because I am ticklish - and because they go pretty high up your thighs....but by the end, you are totally relaxed and feel like jelly. I highly recommend getting the card. After one massage you will definitely want to go back. And, don't forget to bring some cash to tip the person massaging you! read more

I purchased a Groupon a few months ago for an hour long reflexology treatment. I'd never done one before and I thought that a Groupon would be a cost effective way to try it out. The spa itself is lovely. The waiting area is beautiful, it's got a very nice, peaceful vibe going on inside. When I arrived, there wasn't anyone else in the lobby, but within 5 minutes of me getting there, there were 6 other people crowding in behind me. The one woman who was at the desk seemed a bit overwhelmed trying to check in the appointments, the walk-ins, and also handling the phone. But she was nice enough and I was checked in pretty quickly. I told her from the beginning that I had a Groupon, and she wrote down the code on my voucher before I sat down. The main thing that people have to remember with a place like this is that it's an Asian style massage. I say that because in my experience, they're more for deep tissue work and more intense pressure to encourage increased blood flow. If you're not used to it, or are more sensitive, I would probably not recommend this experience for you. That being said, I didn't feel like my masseur (I think her name was Nina, but I'm not sure, she was never introduced to me.) really spent much time actually doing the reflexology part. I had a friend who literally only massages when I ask him to give me a massage that was probably equitable to what I received here. There was a lot of time spent just rolling my ankles around. But she was nice and attentive, so I still tipped her well. The biggest issue I had though came several hours later. My appointment was at 11am, and I received a phone call around 6:30 or 7pm telling me that there was something wrong with my Groupon code and that I needed to give them the number again. When I started giving it to her, I was immediately interrupted and told that the code I was giving her (which was the only code on my voucher) were not numbers, like she needed, but letters. I then spent 15 minutes explaining to her that yes, I knew they were letters, but that was also the only code I had to give her. She kept insisting that there was a barcode number that I had to give her (which there wasn't) and that I must have been wrong because I kept giving her the wrong code. Normally, I understand how businesses work and that she was just trying to make sure that she was getting paid for the services I'd received. But I think calling me 8 hours later several times was a bit much. I'm also not really sure why they didn't try to run that code sometime during my hour long session so they could talk to me in person if there was an issue. So while my appointment was yesterday, I'll be going back again today to try to sort out the Groupon situation. Overall, I may try reflexology again, but I probably won't be going to this spa to do it. read more

I wouldn't call this a massage at all. It was more like 45 minutes of light up and down strokes on my legs. I don't know if it was because I was all the way in the back but it seemed like workers hung out and talked, not whispered, right next to me the whole hour. As a mom to an infant, the time I find to have to myself is very precious and this was definitely a waste. I went in with sore feet and left with sore feet and moisturized calves. When life gives you lemons... Say f**k it and go get a foot massage. This place is my jam. Who knew this could be a weird, but miraculous experience? The atmosphere is very zen - light music in the background, beaded curtains, and dim lighting. On my first visit, I was obviously new to the experience and it was dead quiet in there. Can I talk to my friend? Do we sit in silence? What is happening? Why is it so quiet? They sit you down on the foot stool so you can soak your feet for a few minutes meanwhile they give you a neck and shoulder massage (bonus!), then you get to lay back in the recliner and they massage your feet, ankles, and calves for an hour (!!!!!!!). It was magical. Reflexology techniques that I've never felt in any other massage-like situation. I felt like a new woman. Surprisingly refreshed and reinvigorated afterward, but I suppose that's the point of reflexology - to help with circulation and detox & destress the body. So the less than stellar side of things is that they try to upsell you on everything - a special lotion for additional $2, buy a package, follow your foot massage with a full body massage... Just say no and you're good. I personally would love it to be a little bit more intimate, meaning a wall and doors between me and the ladies getting massaged next to me, but it's ok, it's $30 and you deal with it because it's amazing. I might recommend bringing head phones or a magazine if you want to zone out and have some "me time". The massage is intense and at a few points I thought she was going to set fire to my calves with the amount of friction between her hands and my skin. But I didn't hate it. I have been to Happy Feet for full body massages and the foot reflexology. Mostly, I go for the massages. I am on my 4th package. I love how you can get an appointment on the same day you call for the most part. I find the price very affordable, especially with the package. I have seen several comments about women feeling uncomfortable here as they have a tendency to massage the buttocks and just dig right in. Initially, I found it a bit uncomfortable at first but then got used to the style of massage which is a lot different than a spa experience. I wear my panties which helps me to feel more covered and comfortable. I work out a lot and my muscles get tight; especially in the summer when I spend lots of time on my bike. The relief I feel after a massage is huge. The massage can be painful at times but the relief I feel for tight stiff muscles is awesome. It is kind of like a no nonsense massage experience. If I do recommend it to others (especially for the full body massage), I make sure they know of the "no bells and whistles" experience, language barrier, the possible pain, and the possibility of discomfort to female guests who may be more modest. If you are okay with all of that; you will love it!! And I also saw people complaining about the tipping practices (cash only, waiting for the tip). This is a service industry people and they work hard. I don't think they are able to afford new SUV vehicles on their salary; tip them the standard 15-20% and have cash. If you can afford to have your feet and/or body rubbed, you can afford to provide a tip. I find it disrespectful to complain about that. read more

Background: I was in need of some pampering and was grateful to schedule an appointment within an hour of calling. My roommate recommended this place to me and it was a convenient walk away living in the Park Ave neighborhood. It was annoying to be asked to pay extra in the middle of the session but I said okay, cause I wasn't about to be dry rubbed... The guy who gave me a massage used too intense pressure on my calves at some points. He was also intense in the way he stared up at me?? Made me feel really awkward. I closed my eyes most of the rest of the time because of this...! Also, I'm not sure how cleanly they are? My pants/clothing areas which were rubbed smelled the rest of the day. And I can guarantee it was not an au natural scent from yours truly. I put those clothes in the laundry and took a shower ASAP. Sorry, gross, but hey I want to give an accurate review. After my massage was done the lady at the desk kept badgering me about their deals and packages. In all fairness I understand she's trying to promote the business, but jeez, tell me once and then let me make my own decision. Atmosphere: There are no walls between clients. Chairs are spaced out along a wall and everyone is pretty much right next to each other. Props to them for making use of the space... but as a patron I know I would've been able to relax more if given some solitude. I really enjoyed my foot massage here and would recommend it to most everyone! The foot massage actually started with a quick neck and back massage while my feet soaked in water. I then was reclined in my chair and given a blanket...believe me, I almost fell asleep. The foot massage was very thorough and relaxing. It ended with hot stones and then a quick leg massage. The two negatives were 1) you have to pay for the lotion (the other option I think is petroleum jelly...I think. It was very unclear) and 2) we kind of sat in the hallway so hearing and seeing the other massages can be somewhat distracting. It's very dark and the ambience is great...but it's still the hallway.
