Well, they went and did it. They overhauled the gaming area, and they wrecked it. Gone are the physical tokens used to play games. In their place is a cheap, plastic card - like a credit card - which kids are supposed to load with funds and they tap against the machines to play. This is not an intuitive setup, and the youngest of kids will never understand how this works; previously, even the youngest of kids understood how many tokens they still had remaining to spend based upon what was in their hand. Gone is skeeball. Gaming prices have increased, too. Caveman Clobber previously cost $0.25 to play; now it costs $0.40 to play. Gone also are the physical tickets. No more kids being excited watching a machine spit out hundreds of tickets. Nope. Now the kids get a digital credit on their cheap, plastic card. Lame. The pizza hasn't changed. It's still lackluster. Now, there is no reason to ever return to Happy Joe's. Thanks for the memories, and best of luck! read more

Happy Joe's is always consistent, with attentive wait staff, a fun game room for the kids, ice cream and of course, delicious pizza. We love Happy Joe's and we have been going there my whole life. I have no idea why I have never reviewed it before. We love their garlic cheese bread - it melts in your mouth...served as slices of french bread and cut in half, these are making my mouth water as I am typing it. Hot, cheesy, crunchy, garlicy - so good! Our favorite pizza is a unique blend of canadian bacon and sauerkraut - which i know sounds awful - but it is the flavors together that make it delicious. They call it the Happy Joe's Special and we love to order it in a Monster size...which has more middle pieces and of course more crust pieces, because of the size. In addition, we love the pepperoni pizza, whether it is the normal pepperoni or their special pepperoni with three different kinds of pepperoni on it - it is amazing! Happy Joe's also has an assortment of taco pizzas - with my favorite being the Taco Joe (refried bean sauce, taco-seasoned beef and sausage, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and taco chips). When possible again, the salad bar is one of my favorite things, with the pizza buffet you have a chance to sample different kinds of their specialty pizzas, breadsticks, garlic breads, and pastas. Happy Joe's is all nostalgia for me. When I was growing up as a youth (40 years ago) my parents would take me and a few friends for 1 or 2 of my birthday parties to a HappyJoe's in Appleton. I remember there being steps up to a small platform where you could watch through a window while the pizzas are being made. I also recall the gaming area which in the early 80's I remember as definitely being "all that". The birthday boy always received a small ice cream sundae and your own personal junior pizza. Oh those were simpler times and fond distant memories of years past. I was aware there are still a few Happy Joe's in our state, but haven't had the chance to visit one until remembering there was this one in Green Bay. This location seemed similar to what I remember of the Appleton location. The same window to watch your pie being made. My teenage son even humored his dad by standing on the viewing platform just long enough for me to take a picture. There was a gaming area albeit not quite what I remember. The pizza has a crunchy crust. I remember Happy Joe's pizza having small pieces of Italian sausage and this seems not to have changed. I remember the meat having a little more spice, but likely that's just an inaccurate recollection. Our pizza was solid but nothing spectacular. I've been to Happy Joe's with the kids many times (and even had a few of their birthday parties there) but my review is for just last night. We ordered a large pepperoni and sausage and I always get the little Joe chicken bacon and ranch (I'm not a fan of the minuscule sausage balls). The soda is never good there, it's always flat, so I got a spotted cow. That tasted old but I didn't expect it to be any better than that. Out of the few games they have there, two of them were broken but the kids didn't mind. They really liked the merry go round and it's disappointing that it's gone and wasn't replaced with a new one. For some reason it REALLY bothered my husband that a server did not come to the table to take our drink order. I told them we have to go up and order it ourselves. I asked the server who bought our pizza to the table about it and she said that they'll take drink orders for larger parties. It wasn't a big deal to me. We were extremely disappointed with our visit. I called ahead to make a reservation, because it was restaurant week. We got to Happy Joe's a few minutes early (all 3 of us) and waited for somebody to seat us. After 10 minutes, the hostess approached us, but a guy cut in front of us to ask how long the wait would be for a group of 20 with no reservation. She told him it would be awhile, but then sat his group at a table anyway. I'm okay with that, as long as they can still serve those who did have reservations. After a few more minutes, the hostess returned and told us it would be a few minutes because they were cleaning our table. She did eventually tell us we could go back and choose a table, so we did. But nobody ever came to take our orders. Meanwhile, the group of 20 placed their orders and got their drinks. A half hour after our reservation time, we still had not seen a server. We walked up to the registers and asked for a manager. A manager did come speak with us and apologized. He said he was frustrated with his staff tonight, but he did not offer to fix anything...he just said he hoped we would come back sometime. Not too likely, pal. We went to Cranky Pat's instead. Their taco pizza is pretty amazing, salad bar is standard pizza restaurant, but who doesn't love a good standard salad bar?! It even has chocolate pudding (probably from a can, but honestly, I find it delicious... its a childhood nostalgia thing for me). Pathetic, pre-packaged, small pieces of chicken when the menu reads "grilled chicken" For a price of $7.25, I would have expected something of much better quality. The salad bar was literally of better quality and value at $2.99 with lots of fresh veggies and many other ingredients. I love the taco pizza! Both hand tossed and pan crusts are great. They have a bunch of different variations of their taco pizza. My other half loves the nacho joe. The gluten free pizza crust is also very tasty, and it is nice to have that as an option. We have tried other gluten free crusts around town and this one is the best! read more
