Been meaning to write a review for Happy Paws Pet Spa for a while now. By far, they are the best in Yuma. I've taken my two poodles here for about three appointments and they always do such a good job with them! One of my poodles is very sensitive and usually gets matted quickly, and in the past the old groomers we went to would just shave her hair without even trying, but Happy Paws Pet Spa made sure she was well taken care of while still looking cute! Have been going here for years (even before Mom left) and loved them. Called and made an 8:30 appt for this morning, she was the 2nd one checked in. Went back at 11:00 to find her in a pen and nothing had been done. They said she snapped at another dog so they put her in the pen for timeout. 2 1/2 hour timeout! She should have been groomed and home by then! Another family business taken over by a family member that is screwing it up! We will never go there or recommend it again!! read more

I just picked up my maltese mix dog from Happy Paws. He looks adorable . Desiree does a fantastic job. He is not always easy to handle, but she seems to have no difficulty with him. The other staff is friendly and watching them grooming their animals they seem to provide excellent service as well. We have been taking our Shiba Inu here for a bath and de-furring for at least 5 years now. It may not be the cheapest but they do a good job, he looks good every time he comes back and he does not struggle when we take him in as he does when going to the vet's so although he doesn't like being groomed by us he must not mind them doing it. read more

Beware!! Boarded our two dogs for 7 days. When we picked them up one dog had an injured back leg and was not walking on it. Was told that they had no idea how it happened and charged us $280 dollars. Told us they would call the next day to see how he was doing and they didn't, no surprise. Well it's 9 days later and still no call, not even an offer to help pay for a vet visit. We have used Happy Paws for grooming and have been happy for the most part but now they will never touch our dogs again. We trusted them to care for our dogs. read more

Hmmm... this place was recommended to me by a co-worker. I have tried almost all the other grooming placed in town and I am trying to find that one perfect place. I don't think this will be it. The staff a very nice and they did an OK job on my dogs but what got me was the price. It MUCH more expensive than any other place I've been too. read more

Staying in Yuma & our dog needed a bath & haircut. They were very nice to worked him in on short notice. They did cut him shorter than we asked but was a nice cut anyway. We appreciated them raking him as. Use as they were! We would go there again--on a less busy day & make sure they know how we want him trimmed!!! read more

I'll be the first to admit I hate making appointments with my somewhat busy schedule! I just recently moved down here from the valley and had appointments to take my 4 dogs 3 hours up north to Scottsdale where they have been groomed the last 3 years. 1 week before Christmas I called at 1 in the afternoon to see if they could get my 13 year old standard poodle in. She is old and didn't want her to have to take the 3 hour trip in the car. I thought for sure they'd laugh at me and tell me I'm crazy! Haha. Nope they said sure bring her in. They did a great job. They were all so nice and can tell they love the pups. Well New Year's Eve on my way home from work I found a dog in the desert skinny looks to have been out there for a while and of coarse with my heart for animals brought her home. Today I call and see if they can get her in for a bath and once again. Absolutely bring her in! They are well staffed and very nice and I will be bringing all my pups here for grooming now instead of making the 3 hour trip up north ugh!! So relieved thank you all for your kindness and convenience!! read more

Took my mastiff puppy in today for her first grooming experience. They were so sweet and she was so loved. She came out squeaky clean.

My dog is a Lab -- 11 years old and very well mannered. He has stayed in many kennels state wide and has never had a problem. He is also trained to open doors because he has been a service dog - and staff was advised of that. Unfortunately, I had to leave him there three times. The first time, he opened his kennel door and and was found in the shop next morning. Staff said he had damaged the wall in his kennel (it was plasterboard.) Second time, he was waiting at the front door for staff - having opened his kennel door, the kennel room door and the swinging gate at the front. Staff said they chose to move to the back door to enter 'so he wouldn't run away" -- and found it open also (!!). Staff assured me they 'loved" him. An emergency occurred and he had to stay there again for 2 days -- this time he has damage to his tail as if it had been scraped ( 2 months later it has not recovered -- no fur grows there for about 2 inches on the top.) Staff said he again damaged the plasterboard wall and required payment of $40 extra to repair it. His medication for thyroid was still in the bottle - I had left only enough for the 2 days and it was not given. Most of his food was still in the bag. ... Yes --- my fault as my poor dog should never have stayed a second time, let alone a third. BUT -- please note: This establishment caters primarily to small dogs -- there are really no facilities for large dogs. The "lawn" in the photo is plastic and the actual area is about 10 ft by 3 ft. Dogs are not walked or exercised - altho some are allowed to run free in the grooming shop. There is NO ONE there on Sunday at all -- a staff is said to come in to feed and water. .. So now I drive him to El Cajon, Ca where he stays at 4 Paws Flying and is treated well. read more

I took my old and sick Shitzu in for grooming and asked to stay by her side because she gets so anxious and has pain. They were very accommodating and treated my baby with gentleness and caring. I have tried several groomers in Yuma over the years and Happy Paws is by far the best. Not only did they do a fantastic job, it's a place that immediately makes one feel comfortable that their pet will be treated with love. I really like the open layout, can see everything that is happening from t h e lobby. My Shitzu has now passed on but I have another adopted dog and will only use Happy Paws from now on. I used to love bringing my dog to happy paws but unfortunately the last few times I brought her for the kennel service has been terrible. The first problem I ever came across happy paws was the TICKS. My dog came home with 26 ticks after coming back from happy paws. They gave her a tick bath for free the next day, which was really nice of them. The last time I brought my dog to happy paws was the last straw. My dog was attacked and bite by another dog and they did not let us know until we went to go pick her up. She got bite so bad they needed to give medical attention and stitch her up. They also lied and said a random dog came out to attack the owner of happy paw and my dog jumped in to protect the owner and the other dog ended up attacking and biting my dog. First of all, my dog is not that heroic, cute story but not true. She claimed not knowing the dog who attacked my dog or the owner of the dog. I called a few days later to get more information about what happened and which vet she took my dog to because they did a horrible job stitching my dog up (the "vet" didn't shave the area and could of gave my dog an infection) I let her know that if I didn't get the information I needed I might press charges for not letting me know then she confessed that she knew the owner of the dog that attacked my dog, she also told us her FRIEND the "vet" was just "passing through town" stitch her up. SHE DIDNT TELL US WHICH VETERINARIAN CLINIC HER FRIEND WORKS AT AND FOR ALL I KNOW SOME RANDOM STRANGER JUST STITCHED HER UP WITHOUT ANY GIVING MY DOG ANY NUMBING. Took my dog to the vet for a check up and asked happy paws to pay for her vet bill and they did (appreciate it but we shouldn't even be at the vet if her "friend" shaved the area). I will never come here again and I hope they learned their lesson from this. I hate writing bad reviews about places I used to love but I just want to warn people. They're good people but I will never trust them again. Be cautious where you bring your dogs. read more

This place is the best. I can't say enough about the ladies here. My brittany always looks great after she is groomed and she loves coming for daycare playtime. The prices are reasonable too. I had to go out of town for 9 days and she was very well taken care of and was not stressed out whatsoever. I highly recommend this place. So you had my last review removed somehow.. My dogs are still suffering from the treatment they received at your so called groomers hands. Zoe got an infection in the wound your groomer inflicted on her back. Question, Why don't you sterilize your clipper blades after each grooming. Suki is almost back to normal no thanks to the treatment she received at your so called grooming salon. I would not recommend these people to anyone who loves their dog.. As for Yelp, They should not be allowed to remove negative recommendations. I will repost my original post as soon as I copy it from my facebook page. Took my two little Shih Tzu's for a bath and trim. Before I continue with this review I have to say I used Happy Paws last year and they did a great job. Dogs looked good and happy when I picked them up. Naturally with good results from last year I took them back when I got back to Yuma. This time my two babies looked like hell, My older dog was trimmed so close her back was bare and they had even cut into her. My younger one is in pain with burns to her back legs and underbelly. Evidently dull blades. Both dogs have been traumatized by this visit. I normally trim them myself with professional equipment but I thought a professional cut and pampering would be good for them this time. Boy was I wrong, I have been treating them both with coconut oil for the burns and a special spray for any infection they might get. Looks like a real novice went to work on them with no training or idea how to use clippers. Cost me $110.00 to put my babies through this awful ordeal. Needless to say I will never take them back there and I will not recommend to anyone to take their dogs there. Back to doing my own grooming, Nobody ever again is working on my two babies but me. Reply to Desiree. Regarding my Island Dogs remark. The comment I made was not when I picked them up as you stated, It was made when I was asked how I wanted them trimming before they got butchered. The comment Island Dogs was not so your employee could butcher my babies. The comment meant we were not too fussy what style to cut them in. Normally I do the puppy cut for Summer. I do not use a knife and fork like your employee did, I use an Oster or Andis clippers with very sharp blades. Last year your groomer did a fantastic job. This year absolutely horrible. Although I give you credit for standing up for your employee I do not like you lying about my dogs. Suki had a few clumps which would in fact have brushed out. Zoe had already had her undercoat reduced and was mostly guard hairs. No reason she should have been shaved almost bald with gouges to her back. I saw Your employee drag my poor little Suki with the leash. Why if she is a dog lover didn't she pick her up? I should have pulled them out when I saw this action.. Not the action of a dog lover. Time to hire someone who knows how to trim dogs like the young lady you had last year. You charge top dollar so you should have top people who know what they are doing. read more

I had high hopes for Happy Paws, but my sweetie got the worst grooming ever. I took a picture of how I wanted my little dog to be trimmed - it was a picture of her perfectly groomed by a groomer in another town, and a list with everything written out. I specifically went over what was written down and pointed out what I liked about the grooming on her face from the picture. She doesn't look anything like the picture - she looks like Neanderthal Dog and has long tufts of hair left all over. The only thing they did that I asked was not drench her in perfume. They told me 2 or 2 1/2 hours. I went back to pick her up after 2 hours. I was there waiting outside for 4 hours. They took 6 hours to groom her. I even called after she had been there for 4 hours and asked how much longer, and told them I was outside waiting. They said 45 minutes. She had only been washed! It took them another TWO hours. My dog and I are both exhausted. She is normally bouncy when I pick her up. This time she was stressed and drained. We won't be back. I am so upset with them! They charged me for a medium-sized dog. My dog weighs 5 lbs. She's tiny. read more
