The wonderful lady who works there is just fantastic. She showed us around was telling us all about the native plants. Cats chickens and other animals roam the place as well. I saw one plant (which as a rarer plant collector I've seen some pretty ones online only) that I know I couldn't take home, but it had lots of babies that I asked if I could buy one off. She was a little hesitant but with reason. I have to fly it back to my home and she was worried it wouldn't survive. After talking some more she surprised me with a little baby to take back. I will now care for this like my own child. She gave me some nodes of another native plant and chatted us up some more and told us of some other nurseries. You were wonderful and Cooper was just so cute! Thank you so much, we will definitely be back!

Visited this little nursery a while back plant-shopping in Waimanalo. If you are a plant lover, you need to make a stop here! I actually drove right by this nursery but the sign beckoned me to turn around as I was in need of a passion fruit plant. I recently learned some species of passion fruit need two plants to make any kind of fruit. I was wondering why my large passion fruit vine loaded with flowers had no fruit! Well if I had known that, I would have purchased two plants a year ago! The drive on the rocky dirt road felt like an adventure! I was hoping no other cars were coming my way because I'd probably have to reverse to a clearing if that was the case, but there were no other people. I was the only one there that day and it was like driving onto a little magical oasis of plants and pets. I was greeted by a really cute rooster that looked like it was wearing a vest. Too bad I didn't get a picture of him. He was cute. I loved watching him walk up and down the driveway. He didn't strut like a regular rooster, he kind of teetered on either leg, like a penguin. The owner of the nursery, Lena, came out to greet me with her pretty smile and hospitality. There were all kinds of citrus trees, plain and fancy. She had gorgeous hibiscus for sale too! As for the passion fruit, she only had one plant that was pretty small, but she just gave it to me after she told me it was a bit too small to sell. That was super nice of her! I purchased a red habanero pepper from Lena as I'm a lover of hot stuff. Aside from lovingly tending to her many fruit trees, plants, flowers and shrubs, she also tends to one of her many rescue pets, from dogs to cats to roosters, so drive super slowly if you come to visit. I believe her days of operation were Thurs - Sun, but I am not sure if I remembered correctly as it's been a while since I visited. Call ahead. Bring cash. Close your doors, trunks and roll up your windows so the cat doesn't hitch a ride with you (he jumped into my trunk). Don't forget the bug spray for the mosquitos....and drive slowly!

    Fig tree and monstera

Lena (owner) is the best! Happy Plants was our last stop and we literally made it there at 3:48 pm with the wife and kid saying, "it's too late they're going to be closed." Glad I didn't listen to them! Lena is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and the epitome of 'down to earth'. She walked us through her separate nursery areas. She specializes in hibiscus but I was able to find a real fig tree for my MIL (not FLF, although I did end up buying one too!), alocasias, and a nice monstera. She's got some amazing unique plants that were unfortunately not for sale, but still very cool to see. Not to mention the most friendliest cat Cooper, a huge but fast tortoise, and a dancing parrot. People like Lena are why I'm becoming more and more obsessed with plants. She truly shares the aloha and is not about the "commercial" make every penny off of the customer type of nursery. She shared a special inset eating plant (serasenia?) with my son and she even let him feed her tortoise some hibiscus flowers/leaves. Can't recommend a visit to Happy Plants any more. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Love this place, They are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays (sat. By appointment).

Tucked away in Waimanalo this wonderful plant nursery is the perfect place to spend the afternoon. Auntie Lena is the most gracious host and it is very obvious that she truly LOVES what she does. Before my visit I could not have imagined spending more than a few minutes at a plant nursery. Auntie Lena is such a wealth of warm aloha and knowledge. I dare not say how long we spent talking story and discussing the many varieties of beautiful hibiscus. You can feel all of Hawaii as it once was and truly is on this property with all its greenery and loving little kittens that patrol their lovely garden. There are chairs, hammocks and a picnic table. Pack a snack or a picnic lunch and a definitely a cool drink while you browse the plants at your leisure. Best afternoon I've had in a long while. *Be careful up the driveway it's a bit narrow and long but it opens up to the nursery with more than enough parking for several vehicles. You may drive past the sign so go easy and enjoy the fresh country air. Hope you all enjoy Auntie Lena as much as we did.

Very nice service. The owner Lean is cheerful and helpful. She brought in a Pulasan fruit tree from the Big Island for me.

And never ever having been to the other side of the island for really much... I heard about this place from a friend of mines. And he needed to purchase some beautiful greenery for a side wall. AJ Bonner is the owner of Super Value Nurseries. And much of his planets are in the young range. It might be necessary to cultivate into the ground for preparation of needed growth. You won't find many fruit plants or any at all (perhaps that might change) but make sure to ask AJ and he will tell you who might have certain planets at other nurseries in Waimanalo. I was wondering about lemon trees, but he explained he doesn't have any fruit and entailed of nurseries that are nearby Waimanalo and that's helpful. I love this Nursery because while we spoke to AJ he had wildlife that he attracted. The fascination was that there was a Shama bird little purple black sheen with a tan orange belly that fluttered to him cause it knew he would have food. And AJ simply opened a container that was in his pocket and dumped out a few little worm grubs. It was fascinating... And I got to see a Native Bird land near where I was standing... a "Puuwilo" from the Elepio bird family... they would be in an area, an isolated from crowds area. I would make another visit soon not just for AJ's expertises in the plants but at least the fascination of seeing a few birds flutter close by. It's a lovely part of Waimanalo. And visit with AJ to get him to share these fascinations in his awesome plant nursery.

They answer calls and have what I need. Going there tomorrow. Will write more of a review later.read more
