I took my orange shorthair tabby cat (who has never gotten a professional groom) to Happy Tails when I see they offered cat grooming in my neighborhood of Greenpoint. The website has price listings, and their pricing seemed really reasonable. The process was so seamless. They're quite booked up so definitely book in advance, and they have a cats only grooming day on Tuesdays. I took my cat in at the scheduled time and they were ready for him on the dot. Easy paperwork, and they told me it'd be about an hour before I get a callback when he'd be ready. My cat doesn't even like it when I pick him up, but the team knew exactly what their doing and I can tell my cat was so happy and chill after getting a bath, brush, and nail clipped. He also smelled so good! Was very happy for my first ever experience taking my cat to a groomer, so I would definitely come back here in the future and recommend this place to my friends in the area. read more

I have a toy poodle and I booked my first appointment 6 weeks ago with Catherine. I explained the cut I wanted and I told her to try to keep his hair texture as curly as posible and to not go too short. When I went to pick him up I was disappointed to find that my dog was butchered and was left looking like a rat with mullet. I expressed my thoughts about the cut and how it was too short and not what I wanted at all. She told me she noted my concerns in my account for the next appointment. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I booked my second appointment with Catherine again. When I got there I repeated what not to do and she said she could do it no problem. Hours go by and I went to pick him up. At first glance everything seemed fine and his cut was much better. After I get home I started to run my fingers through his hair and realized he had knots in his hair all over his body. He definitely was not brushed at all. I called the very next day as soon as they opened and no one answered I called and called and kept getting sent to voicemail. I finally got a hold of someone after days and I expressed what I notice In his hair and to see if someone could fix it. That's when Catherine said she was the one on the phone and told me she didn't brush my dog at all just did the cut because that's what she thought I wanted. I told her I never said to not brush him just try and maintain his hair texture as much as posible. She then said to bring him in the next day but I work so I asked if I could bring him the following day and to that she said no. Then she proceeded to say that she didn't even want to do the it and that I should find another groomer. I was shocked and didn't understand where that came from. I told her that I sent her various pictures of my dog after grooming so that she knew exactly what I wanted. She proceeded to say the pictures I sent were of an ungroomed dog and that replicating that was imposible. I then told her that she was being very rude and that if she had communicated that she couldn't do what I wanted we could have avoided this uncomfortable situation. She then continued to yell at me over the phone to say that she didn't want or need my business and to go back to whatever groomer I had before and hung up the phone on me. Due to this experience I will not be going back and I do not recommend anyone going to this business, especially if you have a poodle like dog. Just an (late, late) addition to my prior review. My Spruce Wayne now has a little brother, who is quite the terror. He's about 9lbs of fur and fury and thinking about getting him groomed had me in fear for the groomers life. Per my vets suggestion, I gave him s but of a sedative and took him and Spruce over to Kristi at Happy Tails. I was expecting to get a phone call (and later a lawsuit) about how the little guy tried to assassinate Kristi, but my fiancé returned with them later that day and they were clean, cuddly, fluffy and in cute little bow ties. Although my cats aren't "my cat from hell" worthy, the little guy is quite troublesome and if Happy Tails was able to tame the little beast I'm quite confident they can handle your pets with ease. read more

Brought my dog here for the last time! I don't know if they cut my dog's butt or what happened but he was bleeding like crazy couldn't walk or sit or go outside. Had to spend hundreds of dollars on medicine and when I called to ask them what happened they said it's because I mistreat my dog and it's my fault. You're the one that mistreated my dog and had to spend more money on medicine than I did on the haircut. Will never come back. read more

We have been taking our three cats here for a few years now, and every time we are impressed with 1) how great the cats look (and two of them are Persians with LOTS of hair) 2) the amazing service and 3) how good the whole staff is with animals. Our one cat is older as well, and they are very accommodating in taking care of her right away while we wait. They also have a great selection of pet care products and toys. Highly recommend! Absolutely AMAZING! I rescued a cat on the street, and she's the sweetest cat ever. However she had SO MANY fleas and knots, and tried to wash her by myself, but she got freaked out. I ended up giving up, and I took her to this groomer that I found on yelp to get her a flea bath. They did a really wonderful job. They gave her flea shampoo and regular shampoo first, then shaved her body so that we could see if there were no more fleas. Then they gave her another flea shampoo plus ear cleaning / nail cut at last, and she became a completely clean kitty. After I took her home I applied front-line treatment, and I haven't seen any fleas since then. She stopped itching in a couple of days, and looks so much happier and cute in her stylish lion cut! In addition they gave me a huge discount and lots of good medical advice for what I should do for the next step. I honestly was a little bit scared of how much they would end up charging me, because she had much more fleas than I expected, so they had to shampoo her a multiple times and shave her body completely. People at Happy Tails are absolutely thoughtful about animal rescue, and made me feel so happy that I rescued her. i had just adopted Poufie. when he showed up at my house, he was this mangy crappy looking cat. he meowed and whined constantly. it was so pathetic. i fed him, i petted him, i scooped his poop. i gave him everything he wanted. he still whined. his long hair was all matted down and in dreads, when you tried petting him around his bum, it felt like 5 layers of cancer or something. but he had the biggest and saddest eyes i had ever seen and i knew i HAD TO make him happy. and shut the hell up. besides buying him the best cat food money could buy, i knew i had to make him feel better about himself. he didn't even pose well, everytime i went to take a picture of him to show him off, he'd look down, as if in shame or embarrassment. it was so annoying. so i got a recommendation from my equally crazy-cat parent friend to take Poufie to Happy Tails. You have to buzz and they come let you in. This is great if you get paranoid about some weirdo going in there to steal your precious pet. The owner asked me the cat's name, and what he needed. I told her, "give him everything. shave, bath, everything." There was 2 other ladies helping out. I was there to make sure he stayed calm. We discovered he had fleas right away. Soooo sooo many fleas. So many, that they had to give him TWO flea baths. We were there for almost 3 hours. The whole time, the ladies were very sweet to the cat, and gave me great advice. They were very easy to talk to. I had a great time there. She charged me $85 for everything. I tipped her $15. It was the best 100bucks i've spent in years. When Poufie got home, he couldn't stop licking himself for hours! he was finally able to clean himself well. and was no longer so miserable and hot. i watched him make biscuits for the first time. he even played with his annoying bird toy for a bit. and best of all, he became photogenic. I highly recommend Happy Tails on Driggs Ave. The groomers were so gentle with my cat. He had lots of tough mats in his fur and they took the time to carefully remove each one. It's clearly challenging to handle animals so safely and delicately; I was enormously impressed by their skill. My cat is happy and rolling around now and I know he feels so much better after getting the mats removed. I'm so grateful to Happy Tails for making this as painless an experience as possible for him. We took our 2 cats there, only one managed to get groomed. The other is still mad and on edge from the experience. The place was very stressful with loud phones and barking dogs. Only one of our cats calmed down enough to get a full grooming and shave. They did a pretty nice job on him, and did not charge us for the other one which was nice. My baby, Riley, is an 85 pound, black Labrador and English bulldog mix, and we'd always stop by after a run at McGolrick. This location is also perfect as I'd drop off Riley with Happy Tails and would then go on to shop at the Met right around the corner or pick up some takeout from Dokebi right next door. THE AMAZING HAPPY TAILS TEAM Riley is QUITE the mischievous rascal but Donna, her daughter and the rest of the ladies were always incredibly caring, skilled, and treated Riley as their own. Riley would always come back fully washed and dried from head to toe, with trimmed nails and an extra sleek coat. THE EXTRA MILE What really made me come back to Happy Tails again and again was the extra thought and care that went into Riley. - They would always provide Riley with this great doggy cologne. It made my pup irristible to squeezing - They'd provide Riley with treats and water - They also GENUINELY cared about Riley. Donna would always give Riley hugs and welcome his doggy kisses. - Donna recently called me to ask how Riley's been doing. I unfortunately had moved out of state and never got a chance to tell the ladies at Happy Tails. It was incredibly sweet to hear from Donna again. SERVICE TIME Additionally, the service time was always incredibly efficient, with no wait time. They would also provide you with a courtesy call to pick up Riley in 10-15 minutes from the call, which made it easy to schedule pick ups. It's been unfortunate that I had to move back to California - I wish I had service here like Happy Tails. We were sincerely treated like family. The groomers at this salon did a great job on our poodle mix. Me and my boyfriend were completely happy with the haircut. That being said, the two stars does not reflect on the quality of the work, but the way we were spoken to and treated. Our dog is a rescue and is a little fearful. This was our first time taking him to be groomed and he was apparently a very difficult client. This didn't surprise us and we were very sorry. Because of how stressed he was, they left his back legs uncut, which we did not mind at all. We thought it looked cute! We apologized, said thank you, and that we are happy with what they did. They said that next time we should ask our vet for a sedative. We said "ok, good idea!" This really could have been the end of it, but no. The woman checking us out went on and on about how badly behaved our dog was and how hard it was to groom him. This made me think he was a little too much for them, which I would have accepted and understood, and I was feeling guilty for everyone having such a hard time.... but she then said: "You can take him somewhere else, but good luck finding another groomer that can deal with him". I was completely shocked by this remark and thought it was incredibly tasteless and disrespectful, especially because we didn't say one negative thing about them or the way our dog looked! I don't know if this came from a place of insecurity/defensiveness or what, but these parting words left a horrible taste in my mouth. read more

Ive been bringing my 2 long haired cats and 2 pitbull mixes to Kristys for almost 2 years. She does an amazing job with them all. My cats, can be a huge pain in the butt, but she seems to have a lot of experience because they come back silky soft and clean, not to mention, they aren't traumatized!!!!!! Everywhere else I took my cats, the cuts were crooked and uneven, and theyd forget to clean their ears and theyd come home and theyd hide for days!! I recently brought my dog to get groomed at Happy Tails after a near disaster with the groomer at District Dog. We had scheduled an appointment at District Dog, and when we got there, we were greeted with a nasty woman, who had not the slightest idea how to cut our dog's breed. She wanted me to show her exactly how I wanted him cut (as opposed to simply giving him the standard cut for the breed.) Above all, she was aggressive and rude. The pet grooming area was not on view, but we could hear several animals barking. After she practically ripped the dog away from us, we asked the owner how much the cut would be and when we should come get our dog. He said $65 and to get him "whenever." My boyfriend and I walked outside, looked at each other without saying a word, and promptly walked back inside to get the dog back. We got bad vibes, and it didn't feel right-- the lady was not even slightly nice to our dog, and in this economy, you don't pay top dollar to be treated that way. So on the way home, we decided to stop into Happy Tails to see if they could offer better services. After reading the horriffic yelp reviews, I had my doubts, but a neighbor recommended the groomer, who she has been taking her dog to for years. We got there, and the dogs were being groomed in plain sight of the customers, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the cut cost $35. We were also able to drop him off right then, and pick him up 2 hours later. My dog had some bad dreads and a curled nail, and they took care of it without issue. A friend recommended this place to me. When you first walk in, it doesn't look to clean..and abit of a loud unorganized environment., but since my friend recommended it, I left my dog to be groomed. Unfortunately that was the worst thing I ever did!!..I picked up neyo he looked great...I paid the lady and headed to the car...while driving home...I was petting him and noticed a weird bug on him...so of course I freaked out and took it off and threw it out the window. Turned the car around and headed back to Happy Tails. I told the lady what had just happened and that the bug was brown...and looked like a tick. She told me that there was no way he could have gotten that from her place. I had left literally 5 min ago...She told me "Why didn't you keep the bug?" Now really who would keep the bug!!....She offered no type of help or medicine to prevent my dog from getting sick. So i did what i had to and bought a flea and tick shampoo.After the bath..i checked him and no trace of any ticks. Here I am 1 month later...just paid a huge vet bill...my dog was infested with ticks...I had to pay an exterminator to come to my home. So with all that said....Happy Tails!! Sucks!! I've taken my cat all over Brooklyn to get shaved for the hot weather. Years ago, in 2006 I took her to Happy Tails and it was only a so-so experience. But, in May of this year we returned, after hearing on yelp that ownership had changed and service was better. My cat was a fluffy natty mess and they took good care of her. They washed her, clipped her nails, and shaved her into a cute little lioness. The two women working that day were very friendly. I took my cat to get his Spring grooming and shave and the owner did a great job. She was really nice and professional, the cut looked great and it was done in a reasonable amount of time. I have been to every groomer in the Greenpoint/Williamburg area and Happy Tails is by far up on the top of the list of competent groomers.
