Most attentive, pleasant and professional vet experience. My dog visits this clinic for his annual wellness check every year and over the last couple of years, we have seen Dr. Vinitsky for these visits and she usually spends a great deal of time with our dog, giving him a thorough checkup and a lovely amount of time to cover his health history, risks, medical recommendations and any of our questions. Not to mention the stellar aftercare this clinic provided after my dog experienced a couple of serious health issues which resulted in surgeries at at an emergency hospital. The experience is always lovely at Greenpoint and I've always been able to schedule semi-last-min (within 24-48hr) visits to address acute concerns. Highly recommend. Only con: not cheap, but understandable and worthwhile for the quality of care while I can afford it. read more

I loved going here but all they are good for is regular checkups. They are always booked several weeks in advance so if your pet has an issue that needs somewhat immediate attention then you are completely SOL. Also they are almost as expensive as Blue Pearl so you might as well cut your losses and go someplace that's open 24 hours and doesn't require an appointment. read more

Greenpoint Vet's advice was to get an over the counter dewormer, which did not work after 2 weeks. I spent an arm and a leg ($160 to be exact) and 2 weeks later my cat still isn't cured from worms. They charged $90 for the exam and $70 for a useless parasite lab test that is not related to the type of worms he has, which of course came back negative. I tried following up about the issue for advice but the vet tech was very rude to me over the phone and gave me the option to be seen that day for an additional $150, or wait a few days for an additional $90 exam. I made an appointment somewhere else and am very happy with their advice, price, and prescription. If you could get refunds from vets, I would be doing that now. Rude, expensive, and ineffective. read more

Scheduling appointments and general inquiry at this hospital is the worst! They hire these rude and incompetent receptionists. They have no idea what they are doing. I've spoken to an aggressive and rude female to just recently a condescending and arrogant flamboyant guy. He must be new as I think there was another guy there (technician?) who is always pleasant to speak to. Always had great experiences with rest of the staff including the doctors, but I will no longer bring my pets here. You can thank the receptionists for that. read more

Pretty solid care. Convenient location. Prices consistently 200 to 800% more expensive than they should be. Example: cat tooth cleaning, anesthesia, antibiotics, tooth extraction estimate was $1,800 to $2,500. Previous NYC vet did same for $400. Our neighbor had same done locally for $600. They default to filling your treatment schedule with as many add-ons, medications, and services as they can and you will have to argue with them to take off the unnecessary ones. We have received multiple thousand dollar bills and have negotiated them down to 1/3 the original cost. Why run your business like that? It's crazy stressful. I have no problem with their care or attention to detail but I'm looking elsewhere for more reasonable prices. Tired of it. ---- We now going to Prospect Heights Animal Hospital and paid $750ish for a cleaning and extraction. Prospect is great and worth the car ride from Greenpoint. read more

Tons of people in the neighborhood have told me to check out other vets, but I have always had such great experiences here with both my dog and cat. Unfortunately I had to put down my 16 year old cat who I had for almost half of my life. I got him when I was 17- but he had recently been diagnosed with leukemia. He went downhill very fast and I had to take him in- it was a very, very hard day. I cannot express the kindness and comfort and patience, and just general caring attitude I experienced that day. Everyone there was so great. I came home yesterday to a card and a little gift that made me cry and melted my heart all at once. Even if I hadn't had nothing but good experiences before, I would forever be their customer after this. She talked a lot about doing diagnostics and pursuing testing that definitely are not anything I would consider for my pet at this time. I was also very concerned when the receptionist doled out medical advise that very much contradicted what had been discussed in the consultation. Multiple phone calls followed to apologize for the mess up. Ugh! Especially after having spent several hundred dollars just for a conversation on how to be a good pet owner. Thanks, No thanks. I never thought I'd be the kind of dog owner that shells out for a premium vet. While I adore my dorky morkie Wookie, my general attitude towards pets is succinct: "It's. An. Animal." Turns out I'm higher maintenance than I thought. Budget clinic Williamsburg Animal's low-tech, high-turnover operations weren't really doing it for me anymore, so I made a quicker and easier appointment with GVH. And am never turning back. First, there are cookies. Free cookies, and coffee, so the inevitable waiting room game doesn't seem quite so offensive. Second, the employees here are professional pet handlers. Dr. Suza - gentle, assertive pack leader - made both Wookie and his mama feel at at ease, with her intelligent pleasantries, and informed recommendations. I felt better educated, and more equipped to care for my dog. (I'd received little-to-no new information from WAC.) The conscientious follow-up calls and e-mails have inspired me toward better client services at work. The loaner DVD and sample meds have helped me to become a superior home healthcare provider to my pet. And the cookies and coffee. . . haven't really helped me, but are pretty rad nonetheless! read more

I've been going through a really tough time with my 13 year old cat and I really appreciate all of the help that I received here with Dr. Brad Seaman. I couldn't have asked for a more compassionate vet who took the time to explain things to me as they were without being preachy. I never felt as if it were a "money mill," was never spoken at, or treated like an uninformed idiot, and I always felt as if he genuinely cared about the welfare of my cat, Daisy. She received top notch care and attention. He's straight forward, kind and informative, leaving no unanswered questions hanging in my mind. I even received a followup call and care from Brad during off hours which speaks volumes. Thankfully, it looks like my kitty will be ok, and I certainly have signed him up to be my new vet. The comfortable office is welcoming, has freshly baked cookies, kitty treats and doggy snacks. The staff were just as calm and caring. In the past, Daisy has really hurt a vet tech, or two, so to see her completely chilled out in their care is as great a testimonial as one could give. I had to drop her off for a few hours one day to go through a series of tests and ultrasound and I was completely at ease, never worrying about her for a minute. A welcome addition to the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area. Oh, they accept CareCredit, too! read more

We lost two dogs in one two week period. Greenpoint Vet assisted with both losses and I cannot recommend them highly enough when it comes to these types of matters. Our Greyhound was so old, she could not get off the sofa anymore and it was clear her time had come. She was terribly afraid of going to the vet, and we did not want her last memory of earth to be of a scary vet office, with her shaking in fear. Greenpoint Vet sent a lovely female vet (I regret I did not get her name, but we were in kind of a rough place mentally) to euthanize her in our home. She was gentle with both the dog and my husband (I was unfortunately out of town when this took place). She was very sensitive to how upsetting this was. A week later, we received a lovely card and a little plaster imprint of our dog's foot. A mere two weeks later, it was time for our beloved Italian Greyhound to go. My husband had had her his entire adult life, I had known her for about 14 years, and we were both complete wrecks, but we knew the time had come. The same vet came with a female assistant. I will admit, I was pretty hysterical. The vet's assistant calmed me down, they were both very reassuring that we were doing the right thing. The vet discussed every bit of the process with me (since I had not been home the last time), and she was very gentle with us and our dog. I was able to hold our beloved dog in my arms as she went to sleep. This was the hardest thing I've ever had to do and Greenpoint Vet was sensitive the entire way through. I guess since we had already paid for our Greyhound, they knew we were reliable. They waited almost a week to call us regarding payment which seemed like such a nice gesture on their part (we had thought that since they already had our payment information from the previous time, they would just run the charge through on that, but they called to verify). A week later, a card with a very nice note inside, referencing our dog by name, assuring us we had done the right thing, and a plaster imprint of our dog's foot arrived. It's inevitable that we're going to outlive our beloved companions, but saying goodbye is never easy. Greenpoint Vet made it a little less rough and for that, we are eternally grateful. read more

My dog was attacked in McCarren dog run by a pitbull and this was the only place open at the time, which I discovered thanks to yelp's 'open now', as it happens. I called and when they answered said something like 'great, just making sure the yelp hours were correct, I'm coming right in for a consult with my poor dog that just got attacked'. She had a couple of punctures and a gash on her nose, she wasn't about to drop dead but she needed treatment. I was a little surprised when the lady asked me to hold and after about 2 minutes, came back on and said that that I should go to an emergency vet instead because they wouldn't have the time to see me. I said I was only 5 mins from them and over an hour from any of the emergency places and surely they could help but she said they wouldn't have time. I should add that they were open for another 90 minutes or more. The thing I take from that is that they're much more interested in their own convenience as opposed to compassion for animals and for that, they can go F themselves. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's clean, the staff is nice enough, and the vet was very knowledgeable. That said, it is extremely expensive. I am aware that having an animal is not cheap, but upon leaving our first check up, we walked out with paying $400, which is fine because she needed a couple of vaccinations. But when I needed to take my dog back to have another shot as part of her vaccination, I walked out paying another $100 and they proceeded to try and sell me some sort of tick vaccination in the middle of winter?!! Needless to say, I passed on that. A few months later, my dog needed to have 2 baby teeth pulled. We went back to Greenpoint Veterinary Hospital who gave us a quote of $1500, which is a bit much. (Mind you I just had 2 wisdom teeth pulled for less than that). We looked around at other vets in the area and opted to have her teeth taken out at Williamsburg Animal Clinic for $300. $1200 is a huge price difference. While I think Greenpoint Veterinary is clean, good with follow up, my dog is relaxed in the waiting room, etc... I just can't help feeling like they I am being taken advantage of. read more

I brought my healthy 8 month old cat to get neutered and unfortunately he did not make it which is extremely bizarre to me that such a common procedure resulted as a perfectly healthy cat not making it out alive. All the employee said was his heart stopped during the surgery, horrible please do not take your healthy animals here to perform any surgeries they may not make it alive so imagine if they aren't healthy it's a definite death. Walking into Dr. Seaman's office feels like walking into a modern Little House on the Prairie. That's a good thing. There are old-timey things in glass cases and a wooden table and even a painting done by a Thai elephant. The Thai elephant thing isn't really very Little House on the Prairie. I just liked that too. I am a new dog owner with a pretty moody dog and I usually need to be pretty wary with new people around him. While he can get aggressive with people on the street, he's NEVER had any issues with any of the vet techs or Dr. Seaman. In fact, I've never seen my dog so comfortable and happy with people. Dr. Seaman is attentive and calm and, so far, has really offered great service for the pupster. While we've only been into the office for simple allergies and itching, I'm much more comfortable with the idea of bringing him for bigger issues now that I've seen how great he is. At the very least, go in and read the framed letter that his grandparents wrote to him when he graduated from vet school. You can tell that this guy is a good egg. And his cookies are good. read more

Underwhelmed by the level of care. That being said, I have not had any serious pet health emergencies. The services are overcharged by 40-50% compared to other vets in the area. The clinicians and staff also tend to guilt their customers into unnecessary and overpriced tests and medications. I was given an estimate for $1400-2500 for a routine doggie dental plus an additional $600+ for mandatory lab work.... overpriced by well over a thousand dollars. This is a trend amongst veterinarians in the NYC area. read more

Furiosa and Gizmo have been treated here multiple times. All the vets we have seen are thorough, take time to explain and diligent in their care. It can be a wait to get an appointment, so difficult if you have a more urgent need for a vet but they will try and slot you in if they can, and sometimes let you drop off early in the morning in those scenarios and they fit the animal in in between appointments. The reception staff are also fantastic and always helpful especially when I call for updated meds, or help with sending forms for insurance etc. read more

So glad we found this vet! After a terrible experience with another vet closer to our apt we were so relieved when we went to Greenpoint and how friendly they were. Price was always in the air at the other place... I would walk in hoping not to spend 500-600 dollars! But also not having a clue on price, I would ask and they would play dumb and not really give me an estimate, which led to me to feel uncomfortable. At Greenpoint all prices are up front! And they don't push for your dog to get unnecessary stuff. I'm able to space out certain things which also means I'm not coughing up 100s of dollars at once! They let me know all the cost before and I agree to it or decided to only to half and come back for tech visits or "bring back his poop" before a certain date! I also love that their reminders are cards with my dogs picture in it. He does look a little scared because it was right before he got neutered but it's still cute!!! My Mini Aussie, boyfriend and I are very happy with this vet office! It's a little pricier but so worth it because they are up front and not pushy! This is how every vet clinic should be ran! Do not trust your pet with this place. My cat has special needs that they wouldn't accomodate so I went and paid for a high priced special home veterinarian to come give him an exam and do his bloodwork last week. I was told I could then submit the results to them so that they could continue supplying his medicine like they have been doing. Now they are refusing to acknowledge or even look at his lab results and are attempting to force my cat to go without unless I bring him in (and pay them) for an unnecessary second round of examination and bloodwork - even though they were the ones that said they wouldn't accomodate his needs in the first place! Just unbelievable and cruel and this honestly feels like extortion. We'll gladly be taking our business elsewhere read more

Called them desperate asking for kidney support food cause my dog is not doing well and had not eat in 2 days , had my vet prescription on hand. My vet only had one flavor and chewy.com and others take long to arrive . They didn't care , said that they only will sell it if the dogs becomes their "client ". Brought my puppy Brie for a check up last week and couldn't be more pleased. Brie had a minor eye infection and needed her yearly vaccinations and the entire appointment was a great experience. I called a day prior and thankfully they had a cancellation the next morning. The staff was kind and caring and on time and everything was clean and cozy. The doctor seemed like she truly cared about the animals and was super helpful with answering any questions I had. Her assistant walked me through the prices of everything we had talked about during the appointment which I found extremely helpful - the vets I previously visited never told me the rates unless I asked. While Brie probably won't be too excited for her next vet visit, I'll be happy to make a return next time! PS they have treats for both animals and humans at the front desk. read more

I had a kitty emergency in late July in which I decided to try Greenpoint Vet Hospital since it had great reviews, was just a few blocks away and they had an appointment available the following day. The reviews are correct in that this office is clean, the staff is nice and helpful and its super cute. The doctor saw my cat on time and was as gentle as possible. I was told that my cat had a serious dental issue that needed attention right away. My cat was then given his immunizations to make sure he was up to date, a blood test that made him scream bloody murder (not the vet's fault, he's a big scardy cat) and all of this left me with a $375 bill. I can't believe everything was so expensive. Then they printed out the estimate for the procedure he needed, this long list of medical jargon and equipment details with the hefty price tag of $890 - $1100. I almost had a heart attack. What exactly did all this stuff mean? My cat needed his teeth cleaned and 1 tooth to be extracted. I used to go to a vet long ago for another cat and a cleaning never cost this much. I felt defeated and booked an appointment for a few weeks later. Being smart, I priced around the same procedure to other reputable veterinaries in the neighborhood. After discussing the issue with another vet at a competitor, my cat received the same procedure for $260. Yes - that's right, $630 cheaper than the lowest figure I was quoted. My cat is doing great and I'm happy to have saved so much money. I really like Greenpoint Vet Hospital, I just can't afford it. Perhaps they're catering to a wealthier clientele that needs fancier equipment and fresh baked cookies? I don't know what the deal is, perhaps high rent therefore more expensive vet bills. I guess if I had more of a disposable income, I would go here since its far more convenient than taking car service to the other place - but is that really worth $630 more?? Just be smart and make sure you price around for procedures and get a second opinion - your pet should be no different than a person w/out insurance. read more

I had my first experience here with my senior cat yesterday, and I can't say enough nice things. My cat has kidney issues and recently had a spell that I thought might warrant an emergency vet visit. While he's completely worth it and I'd do it if necessary, emergency vet visits are extremely costly. I tried calling my previous vet's office during normal business hours, but could neither get an answer nor a return phone call, so I decided to try Greenpoint Veterinary as they are right down the street. The person with whom I spoke on the phone was smart, helpful, and listened to me ramble on and on. She helped me make an appointment very quickly and gave great advice on things to look out for. When we arrived at the office, they saw us on time. (Another plus in my book!) They performed a thorough examination of my cat and prescribed a new diet to help with his kidney issues. They answered all of my questions, were kind, respectful, and I did not feel they nickel and dimed me. (Having lived in this neighborhood for so long, I'm used to the higher cost of veterinary services.) I will gladly pay it for the care that was provided at Greenpoint Veterinary Hospital, and will bring all my animals here going forward. Other positives: -the office both looks and smells clean -they have the ability to do feline dental work on the premises. (Being sent to specialists for this in the past has cost me a fortune, not to mention the commute.) -they create a personalized website for your pets to keep your appointments in order and provide additional information Dr. Seaman and his staff are a wonderful addition to this neighborhood and I'm so glad they're here. I've lived in Greenpoint for several years and when Greenpoint Vet opened, I began going for convenience as I had been taking my cats to the ASPCA clinic in the Upper East. First thing I noticed was the tray of warm cookies and hot coffee that made the waiting room smell more like a bakery than disinfectant and dog. It's cozy and pleasant. LadyDay was about 17 when I started coming to the clinic, and her renal system was on a slow decline. I knew her days were numbered. Dr. Zelman and Dr. Tan took time to answer my questions and explain what I should expect. When, about a year later, her health went rapidly downhill, Dr. Seaman spent a good half hour on the phone with me, explaining all the options and he provided some resources so I could determine the best way to care for her. In the end, the kindest thing to do was euthanize, and the vets were supportive and didn't push treatments that may or may not work, but would be extremely expensive. Throughout this difficult and painful situation, the vets treated me like a responsible, informed pet owner who will do what's best for her cat -- this is what differentiates this clinic from others. Dr. Tan continues to take fantastic care of my other cat, and my new kitten also goes there for her exams. Yes, it's expensive, but I'll argue that the prices are comparable to other quality clinics. It makes sense to get pet insurance, especially as pets get older and need more frequent veterinary care, medications, etc. Point is, I love my critters dearly, and Greenpoint Vet understands that and treats them with the respect and love that they deserve. read more

When our other very elderly cat was sick with cancer, they were so caring and made sure we had all the information and resources we needed. I have recently transferred my 3 cats and my new puppy into the care of the Greenpoint Veterinary Hospital (I guess that in and of itself is a good testament). What I appreciate most is their responsiveness. Via phone, in person, via email - you name the media, they will get back to you with copious information and tips. Especially as a first time dog owner, I've had my fair share of "dumb questions" which were all answered respectfully with extra info & reading suggestions to boot. Like most vet's they require an appointment for everything. They will "absolutely" not recommend anything to help your pet without a doctors visit beforehand so they can snatch some money. The surgeries cost 10+ times more then other vets I've found around the city. They couldn't handle my dogs Hernia 4 years ago and said there's nothing I can do unless I give him a $2500.00 surgery which I got for $220.00 (Painkillers included) somewhere else. They made me lose hope and my dog is doing well today. They talk you into checking for ringworms and thicks(lime disease shots) like they even exist in Greenpoint for more money. I don't really want to drive around in the snow so I thought I'd ask for some advice for something little and of course I got turned down over the phone. I understand becoming a vet is a long road and having a business in Williamsburg is pricy, but have some conscience. The office IS very clean though and there's almost never a wait time. The atmosphere is nice with the water bowl outside and the jokes on the chalkboard. I can't recommend this to anyone though unless you have a serious income. read more

My cat developed a minor UTI about 4 months back, so I took her to Greenpoint Vet because it is in the neighborhood and could see her the very next day. The doctors and staff are great and the place is super clean and sees you right on time. However, the exam fee is quite hefty and I was told that if antibiotics didn't work, we'd have to do an x-ray and possibly surgery. Thankfully, two rounds of antibiotics did the trick! Now we are seeing signs that an infection might be flaring up again and called Greenpoint Vet to get another round of antibiotics. They are refusing to refill the meds and insist on seeing her again. I completely understand this thinking, however I told them that if anything further were required, I would not be able to afford it and would like to try antibiotics first. They still will not refill the prescription and I cannot afford to take her in to them. They referred me to Bidawee, saying that they do lower cost exams, but I called them and their exam fee is only $3 less than Greenpoint's! I ended up getting an appointment at Williamsburg Animal Clinic for almost half the price of Greenpoint. Their reviews aren't as good, but, for what is such a routine, non life threatening issue with female cats, I'm not worried. I really like Greenpoint Vet and so wish I could afford them, but I cannot. I also wish they had been a bit more understanding and refilled the antibiotics after I explained my situation. read more

This is the place to go if you really care about your pet. Dr. Tan in particular is amazing. Here's an anecdote that sums things up...We brought my cat in for a checkup and they found a tumor growing on her lip, we scheduled surgery to remove it because there's a chance it could have been cancerous. A few weeks later when I dropped her off for the surgery, I left and then got a call from Dr. Tan 15 minutes later. She looked in my cat's mouth and the tumor had disappeared! She was very excited, and let me know it's extremely rare for this to happen. They didn't charge me anything, and they were genuinely thrilled she didn't need surgery, even though it was money out of their pocket, and the receptionist was yelling, "It's a Christmas miracle!" Thanks so much, Greenpoint Vet! You have a customer for life. read more

They do this thing where they take a pic of your pet when you come in and put in on a postcard that you'll get in the mail for vaccination reminders, etc. Cute idea except the last time we were there it was because my dog had a HUGE wart on her face. Not only did they not help her wart (gave her antibiotics which did no good. I ended up getting rid of it on my own with vitamin E oil) but I just got a postcard in the mail from them with her WART FACE picture on it. Which they did not cure. Also they are ridiculously expensive. It'll cost you $75 just to walk in the door. And then they'll charge you for god knows what on top of that. I always walk away from this place feeling like I was robbed. I'm finding a new vet ASAP. read more

In our most vulnerable moment, Greenpoint Animal Hospital was there for us. Our cat Pandora had lived a long happy healthy life with us, but after 16.5 years my wife & I had to make the agonizing decision to put her down. Of course this was on a Sunday, when our regular Vet was not around and I had to find a vet that was close to us. I can't illustrate enough how sweet & thoughtful everybody was when we arrived with our fur-baby Pandora. Dr. Tan spoke to us softly with care during our visit to the Vet, which we deeply dreaded this day would come. She explained the euthanasia process clearly to us and was so nice when discussing our options. It was our most vulnerable moment when we had no where to turn, and Greenpoint Hospital & Dr. Tan stepped up to assist us when we needed help. They also gave us a paw print to help remember our baby.
