The current anchor tenant is Whole Foods, which brings in a LOT of traffic and customers, making parking a bit more difficult than before. On the other end of the shopping center is the other anchor tenant, Safeway. With two grocery stores in this plaza, you can stock up! McCaulou's is mid-way between the two grocery stores and is a popular local department store. Broadway Plaza

While there's no longer music that plays in the morning and the main street is now closed to…read moretraffic, Broadway Plaza is still one of my favorite places to be in Walnut Creek. There's a good mix of restaurants, clothing, and jewelry shops, most of which are high quality brands and the mall constantly stays fresh and vibrant although I do wish they had more restrooms outside of the ones below Industrious. Some weekends they have a maker fare or live music, but most of the time the fountain is just central to the comfortable seating area, that during the winter gets some decor for the holidays. All in all, I really do love this area and still find myself coming back year after year.

I noticed many more jewelry related stores are open. Old Navy is gone. Gap was gone first and then Banana Republic. Now no more Old Navy. Athleta is still around and I notice many other fitness clothing stores. I remember Louis Vitton store open, now is gone. Hope more new stores will come.

Or was it because my old Toyota wasn't fancy enough? I grew up in Orinda 68 years ago when people were just discovering what it meant to be a snob . Today this Orinda representative proved to have reached Olympic levels. It's always disappointing to see people behave this way, Possessions and status over people. Ironically, this is a store where my mom used to buy me my back to school clothes. Clearly I'm no longer welcome.

But I usually go here to go to the store on the way to Walnut Creek or on my way back home. I have walked around this spot, hoping to find another there, there, but there isn't one. I don't know what an update would look like, because it's so old and past it's time. And some of the places that I'd go to - there was a health store - gone, a burger joint - gone, the fancy, healthy food spot - gone, the cupcake spot - gone. You do have to pay for parking, but it's been safe. But still, metered parking in a "dying" shopping center? I'd think that they'd love to have people park. I've been to other places up and down the street and this is the only one where you have to pay! And they have one store, so I only pay for 15 minutes or so. But what a waste! I'd pay for a couple of hours and spend time bouncing from shop to shop, but that won't happen beecause everytime they get another shop of note, it closes down. This is an old school plaza and I want to like it more than I do. I wish they updated themselves, like El Cerrito Plaza. They have some of the same buildings, but built others. they have also updated their offerings and when something closes, another quality store joins them.

Over the Summer has the best festivals, concert at the lake, wine and beer, Blues and Brews festival and so forth. Restaurants are reasonably priced, however housing in PH can be expensive. The city always looks clean and pristine. My favorite sit and people watch right in the heart of town. Come check it out.

The staff is always very helpful and nice. Nice jewelry, too. A real bonus is that they GIFT WRAP. Not just a bow on a box, but you choose from nice wrapping paper, and it comes with ribbon and a beautiful, curly bow. It's my go- to place for gift buying. And it's super convenient. I really appreciate this store.

I purchased a shirt at McCaulou's in Lafayette, and a week later attempted to return it at…read moreMcCaulou's in Orinda. The shirt was never worn, tags still attached, receipt in hand. The salesperson would not accept the return or exchange because the shirt "didn't look familiar" to her. Umm, excuse me...? I returned the shirt in the Lafayette store and the salesperson said that what I was told in the Orinda store was completely untrue and inappropriate. All returns are accepted within 30 days with a receipt. Would that have happened to someone of a "lighter hue"? I doubt it... Yes, I'm a Black woman. Needless to say I will never frequent McCaulou's again.

Beautiful birthday flowers ... delivered a day late. When my relatives asked if I liked the…read moreflowers, I had to reply, "What flowers?" Delivery had been promised so it meant a hassle for relatives living 1,800 miles away. Jory's is closed on Mondays. Maybe that was the hang-up, but delivery had been promised. When they finally arrived, I was greeted with a "Sorry." The flowers were beautiful and so was the amber tone mosaic vase. (I am still enjoying the vase now filled with some dried fall flowers.) But here is where things get a bit strange. When I was rinsing out the vase, I noticed two stickers on the bottom. One said Mervyn's $39.99 and the other said Goodwill $8.99. Mervyn's closed many years ago so today's retail value of the vase would be much more. Who knows how it ended up at Goodwill and then made its way to Jory's. I don't have an issue with recycling from thrift stores. I do it myself. What was very odd to me was Jory's did not take a minute or two to remove the stickers. Very tacky. This would have been a five-star review if the flowers had arrived on time and in a vase that did not show its thrift store origins.

I usually just go to Trader Joe's for flowers because they're more affordable but didn't want to make an extra stop. The woman who greeted me asked for a price I was looking to spend. Told her $20 and she said she'd be able to do something for $25, then whipped up a beautifully wrapped bouquet in minutes. I'm pleased with my purchase and this experience encourages me to buy flowers at florists in the future. Thank you!

So, Countrywood Shopping Center is just the quintessential suburban shopping plaza, with ample parking and shops that focus more on needs than wants. In my opinion, it houses the best Safeway, CVS and Starbucks ( omg the fountains and deck outside that location pretty much makes it the best Starbucks of all time!) As far as places to eat, the focus is on "family casual" with joints like Black Bear diner and Panera. I like this particular Jamba Juice since it has a better parking situation than the downtown location, although its nearly always super busy! Overall, decent parking and a convenient place to stop for my weekly errands.
