This seems to be the place to be in Orinda!! It wasn't overly crowded when I was here, but with all the places to eat, you can tell this place gets plenty busy!! Along with dining, they also have some retail businesses here, small stores all around. That theater sign is very visible from the freeway, it's a good way to draw you in. I came here kind of after Covid, but people here were still really masked up and the area didn't seem to be fully open yet. Orinda theatre square doesn't get the praise it deserves. it's a "shopping" space hiding in plain sight. no ugly shopping space dinosaur, the units can evolve to the commercial needs of Orinda. a garage is attached. no doubt tenants will turnover. of course, the theatre is the main attraction. tenants: eats shopping services -starbucks toy store offices -subway travel -cine cuvee jewelry -petra cafe -serika -fourth bore -lava hawaiian -pizza -republic of cake -shelby's -saffron indian eateries and offices have been the commercial tenants of choice thruout the years. read more

Love this theatre! It's a step back in time. I never get tired of the small stylish Art Deco theatres. Events happen there frequently. Customer Service is easy & friendly. A glass of wine etc is available. A small bag of popcorn is plenty & $5. I really enjoy myself every time... read more

I really enjoy hanging in the Orinda Theatre Square! Ya know, people always say that there isn't anything to do in Orinda, but this area is always bustling when I visit. Parking is a breeze and there are a good grip of restaurants in this square. In the winter time, they put up the most beautiful holiday decorations, and they often have family events and events for kids during the summertime. Who can forget about the movie theater? It's what everyone sees when they drive down highway 24. You can't miss that beautiful vintage movie theater sign! I tend to stop here the most when I'm coming from Oakland. It's the perfect spot for me to get away from sitting in traffic for a while. Sometimes I'll hit up a happy hour or have dinner here and just chill out until the traffic dies down. Speaking of which, I do have a couple of favorite places that I love to go to when I'm here: *Lava Pit Hawaiian Grill: I just love the food and service here! I come here more than any other spot in the square. Plus, it's a great affordable option for dinner compared to the pricier alternatives. *Republic of Cake: One of my favorite Bay Area bake shops! I'm obsessed with their cupcakes and I usually can't resist a visit when I'm in the square. *Cine Cuvée: Such an adorable wine bar! I've come here mainly for the happy hour, but after dinner too. Great wine and awesome service. It located right next to the movie theater. *Taverna Pellegrini: Excellent Italian food! They also have a great happy hour. Wonderful ambience and the service is incredible. *Fourth Bore Tap Room & Grill: Great selection of beer and an awesome happy hour! If you're into sports, this is a great spot to catch a game. They have a beautiful outdoor patio with a fire pit and heat lamps. This place is always busy but very fun! I haven't visited all of the businesses in the square, but they have a few other shops and restaurants there too. I always love exploring the area when I'm in Orinda. Parking! Nightmare. Men that work in the parking booth are the most unhelpful people I've ever encountered. They don't monitor the exit. Cars having trouble with tickets they won't help. You have to either beg someone to go tell them to help you or back up to walk to him who lol old miserable and hates his job to open the gate. Never again will I park there. Why do you make us pay and then give us unhelpful people to let us out? Do better Orinda Theater Square. read more

Review #163 - 2017 No matter how many cities/places I may venture off to, I still come back home and appreciate all the little things that Orinda has to offer. I don't really spend as much time in my own city as I should, but I'm getting better at it. This was my first year attending the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Orinda & I have to admit that I was not disappointed at all. We have a small & pretty close knit community. Almost every parent knows each other when bumping into another person out in public since most of us moved here specifically for the schools. There wasn't too much going on during the lighting ceremony, but it was very cozy and family-oriented. Of course, we got to take our photos with Santa because the line was super short. They had Christmas carolers and horse carriage rides, which we didn't get a chance to go on, but they will return next Saturday so we might show up. I liked that it wasn't crazy and hectic like most places that we recently visited. read more

The opening of Table 24 and Barbados have really revitalized this old square. The historic Orinda Theatre is... well, historic, so don't expect too much out of it, but the modern shops and restaurants add a little more zip to the plaza making it ideal for a dinner-and-a-movie date or a nice night out on the "town" (I live in San Jose now. Quaint little square with shops and restaurants and a theatre located in the small downtown area of Orinda. The tenants in this square tend to cycle in and out of business -- but what shopping area doesn't have this phenomenon? The constants here seem to be the movie theatre, the toy store (Sweet Dreams), and the coffee shop (Starbucks). This is a needed center in Orinda, as it is such a small town, and it ties together the rest of the "downtown" area on this side. For my son, this place is awesome. He just loves the chance to walk/run/dart back and forth through the corridors. I guess I can't complain because he's completely contained. He also enjoys window gazing. There's plenty of interesting shops he can run up to and look at all the stuff. We come here on the occasional Sunday. We usually eat at Table 24 or Barbacoa. Both of which have out door seating for you to watch my son whip past you on his exploration. There is one little thing that I need to complain about. I went alone for lunch the other day. I walked past the fountain and sitting there with his bare feet up on was a man in only a pair of khaki shorts. He also had two dogs, one of which wasn't leashed and he kept having to jump up to make sure it stayed near him. I could have lived my entire life without seeing his gray haired tits in the light of day. What posses people to think that treating a public place like their private back yard is ok? Public smoking doesn't bother me but no shoes and shirt with shitty dogs just really makes me hate humans. Other than that, enjoy! read more

This is Orinda's focal point. Sadly Orinda's focal point is generally devoid of life. I love Orinda. I lived there for 8 years and still go back all the time because that's where my parents live. But no amount of love will keep me from saying the truth...Orinda kind of sucks and there is nothing to do there. Orinda Theatre Square is no exception. There are a few restaurants here, non of them very good (for good restaurants go to the other side of Orinda by the Safeway). There is a Starbucks which as you might expect is the real winner of all of the foot traffic. There are random offices. And there is a theater. The theater is fun and old time-y but only has three screens. There is also a Sweet Dreams toy store. I moved to Orinda as a kid from the Oakland hills. So I would often go to Berkeley as a kid and would inevitably go to the Sweet Dreams there. I loved that store. I moved to Orinda when I was 10 and was delighted to learn that my own city had a Sweet Dreams. But oh was I disappointed when I walked in and the store was awful. I have not been inside in many years but have walked by, and from the windows I can tell that not much has changed. The best part of the square is the fountain. But there is only so much joy that can be derived from a fountain. So all in all you might be best if you avoided this place. I don't really know any people who live in Orinda and actually go here. If you live somewhere else then you have absolutely no reason to go here. read more

The word 'Theater' here makes all the difference - this is a great place to come to catch an independent movie, and have a yummy bite before or after. There is some shopping to be found in the square but it's pretty minimal. Having said that, I love this square! A large dedicated parking structure connects you via an easy stroll to the many restaurants, with every imaginable price point and cuisine to suit your need to feed! No matter what, a pop into Republic of Cake for a sweet treat is basically a requirement, and highly recommended. A personal highlight for me is the Sweet Dreams toy store - my BF and I spent a good hour exploring that shop and walked out with a couple amazing puzzles to try, and also wind-up toys of some beloved horror movie characters. Yes, at a toy store!! Among many other treasures, they also have a fun collection of beautiful crafted and detailed animal puppets. Endless amusement while in the store, and I bet they make a great gift for an imaginative child that loves to show off and entertain. The gem of the square is of course the Orinda Theater, which has its own separate page. A GORGEOUS art deco theater, with screen and sound quality updated to keep the theater current and relevant, but still glammed up with everything wonderful about the old-time movies houses of the 50's and 60's. It truly is a trip to another time to see a film in that theater. If you want to get away from the cookie-cutter strip mall experience for a movie and dinner date night, I highly recommend visiting Orinda Theater Square! read more

Japanese food, Hawaiian BBQ, a toy store, Starbucks, Subway, Greek food, a movie theatre, hot dogs!, Real Estate offices, Law Offices, Art Galleries... underground parking (free if you leave after 8p and all day Sat + Sun!) The guy who works the parking lot cashier station sings, loudly, 70's hits. Always. It used to be annoying, but now, well, I've grown to find it endearing. Teens skateboard in the parking garage after hours, so don't rip around the corners too fast in your fancy euro-mobile. read more

Orinda Theatre Square is right off Highway 24 not too far from the Caldecott Tunnel. A pretty nice small business district that is also historic in some ways. Plenty of shops and restaurants, so you can't go wrong! Good place to stop and hang out or rest at. read more

I love historic movie theaters. Because it's in Orinda near the great shops and because the actual seating area of the theater is pretty cool I give it 3 starts. Beyond that I can't give any outstanding or even mediocre review. The carpet is disgusting, the bathrooms are horribly maintained and need some serious TLC. I wouldn't go out of my way to attend this theater. The Hoffbrau down the street is a must and so is the cupcake shop around the corner. read more

Classy Theatre, the owners are very professional individuals yet they have a demeanor that is very welcoming. This theater feels like a home to me, every time I visit, the staff treats me like family. The only thing average about this place is the prices, I would recommend this theatre to anyone that is in town visiting or currently living here. read more
