She also has arthritis that causes weak knees and had falls. It took some time to convince her to move to an assisted living facility. With the recommendation from my mom's social worker, we toured East Bay Assisted Living. Alice gave us a very detailed tour and chatted with my mom. We felt she understood my mom very well, and she let my mom decide if this is the right place for her. My mom moved in May. Andre helped us with all the paperwork so it went very smoothly. During the first month, there were quite some challenges for my mom to adjust to the new living environment as a dementia patient. All staffs were extremely helpful on day to day interactions with my mom to ease the transition and also communicated frequently with us that reassured my mom is happy there. The communications are very efficient, including phone calls, group chat/texting and zoom meetings. Doesn't matter geographic location, we can do video call with my mom. Helen and Bobo are extremely helpful for that. They observe and pay attention to my mom's behavior and communicate with us promptly. It has been half a year now, my mom is much happier and more active than ever. She actively joins group exercises, drawing classes, games and holiday parties, and made friends with other residents. She feels all the staffs respect her and treat her like family member. She likes the meals and enjoys the snacks very much. We are so grateful to all the help and services that East Bay Assisted Living provides. I highly recommend it to people who are searching for a great assisted living facility for loved ones.

My mom immigrated to the U.S. with her husband in 1959 and lived 60 years in the San Francisco Peninsula. She spoke English and Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese & Shanghai dialect) fluently. Prior to moving into EBAL ~6 months ago, she lived at Bridgepoint at Los Altos Senior Assisted Living for nearly 10 years. They asked her to move when her cognitive abilities reached a point when they could no longer take care of her. Luckily, I found EBAL because she really enjoyed her time there until her health took a turn for the worse about 2 weeks before her passing. At first, I was a little worried because I live in Palo Alto and Oakland is quite a distance away. I could no longer visit her regularly, take her to her doctor appointments, pick up her medications, etc. Alice (owner) offered me many solutions that solved all these issues. Alice and her team gave me regular status updates on my mom; she got my mom a local physician that would do onsite medical visits; she signed me up with a pharmacy that would deliver medications at no additional charge. I found that the team at EBAL (led by Andre) to be very professional and compassionate. The team works hard and really cares about the well being of their residents. During the last weeks of my mom's life, they moved her into a larger room with a large window as she had become bedridden. She ended up passing away there peacefully and pain free. I'd like to pass along a BIG "Thank You!" to Alice, Andre and the team at EBAL for taking such good care of my mom in her final months and days. I just wish that I'd been able to move her into EBAL a couple years earlier.

A lot of the workers are bilingual in English and Chinese. They are welcoming to any one. The advantage here is there is American type meals but people can also have Chinese food as a lot of their patients are Chinese. Having taking care of my sister for years and seeing her go from place to place I wished I had known about this place. She was at one horror house to another until I moved her in with me until her death. There are places with people in wheelchairs left in hallways for hours or people ringing for help and staff at these places are overworked the they ignore ignore people who don't need medical help right away. We went on a tour there on Friday, June 27, 2025. We are looking for somewhere for a family member…read more The facility is very nice. It's clean and smells pleasant. There were a lot of people milling around in the TV lounge area when we were there. It was around 1:30 p.m. The rooms for the independent and assistant living are not shared. They are spacious and come with a bar area, meaning there is a sink in most of them and a mini fridge. One of them didn't have a sink, but had a mini fridge and freezer. It was pretty tall. All have step up showers meaning there is a lip you have to step into. I was surprised they didn't have roll in showers. The bathrooms are spacious. It looked like there was enough room to wheel in with a wheelchair or walker. The rooms have large closets with built in shelves. The rooms we looked at were not on the first floor and we took an elevator to them. I was told there is a lounge on every floor, at least that's what I think I was told, we did not tour the lounge. The independent and assisted living share a outdoor space. It was nice. It had a community garden, lots of sitting areas, a place to golf and a dog waste disposal system. The outdoors was verynice. The memory care unit also has an outdoor space. It's less then half the size of the other outdoor space, but it's still nice and spacious. It also has a garden in it and they had a bunch of green tomatoes growing that I could see. There was a sign on the door warning of the excess heat outside. It also had plenty of seating areas. The independent and assisted living share a dining area. It looks like a restaurant and they have a menu of what is being served. The same food is served to the Memory Care Unit. All units have activities directors and a whole calendar of activities. The Memory Care Unit has Zumba in the mornings. I think that is nice. It will get them moving. The independent and assisted living have 3 exits to the building and they are free to come and go at any time. They also have an acute care area for those that need additional care, but don't need to be in the memory care unit. We visited the locked down memory care unit. It was very pleasant. It was right after lunch when we arrived and everyone was waiting for ice cream to be served out. They looked like a lively group. One of the women even said hi to us and talked to us. It's the best Memory Care Center that we've visited.
