We were looking to do something different on our day off and found Harbor Breeze Harbor Tour on Groupon so we thought it would be a good idea to check out. We're very glad we did, the entire family enjoyed the tour and time on the boat. It was a beautiful day and therefore the perfect day to be out on the water. We want to try the whale watching cruise, but were worried about everyone being on a boat for that long. Took my son on a MLK field trip WHALE WAtching! The boat is spacious and clean and feels safe. The staff is friendly and helpful (except for the guy at the check in window) maybe he wasn't having a good day. He looked bugged when people would stop by to ask questions. I signed up for a dolphin and whale watching cruise for me and the Mrs. The cruise took off from the harbor and lasted about 2 1/2 hours. The boat was very large and spacious. The crew was very friendly and throughout the cruise. The announcer on board was giving us information about the Wales, the dolphins and just general knowledge about things in the area. I had a really good experience on this cruise another thing you definitely want to bring a sweater and preferably a hat because it gets really windy and cold as we got further out into the open water. The views of the sunset and the birds and the dolphins was amazing. This definitely was a great experience. I recommend recommended to anyone bring a camera and dress warm. We got to see plenty of dolphins and we even got to see some whales as well. I would absolutely come back when I am back in California again this was a fun experience and definitely a must try for anyone interested in being out in the open water. read more

I've been on this whale watching cruise several times, and it's always a great outing. The day we went out last week was a bit foggy come 3:00 pm, but they took the boat out far enough to where the weather broke and we saw hundreds of dolphins and some California sea lions. Lots of seabirds as well. It's a lovely trip. I recommend bringing layers because it does get quite cool. Especially in the winter time. But the crew could not be nicer, and they bring educators from the Aquarium of the Pacific on board to talk about what you're seeing. Got to ride for free with the annual free Harbor Rides through the Port of LA! It was great. We had an hour tour roundtrip which took us past the USS Iowa to the entry point of the San Pedro port. It was a smooth ride, very informative, and very cool to see the cargo ships up close from the water's level - really demonstrates just how massive they are. Our boat left from the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade, which is a nice clean park with lots of fun swings, clean bathrooms, and a private parking lot. The boat itself was full of comfortable seating for views all around, both indoors and outside. The front features stadium style seating. Our boat trip also allowed dogs, so there were plenty on board. The staff were all very friendly and professional. read more

A friend and I bought tickets on the Harbor Breeze West Harbor Cruise, thinking that it would be mildly entertaining. Instead, we loved it! The crew were efficient and friendly, and the person explaining the things we were seeing did a great job! Even though I've lived in the area for 25 years, I learned things and got to see things I hadn't before, like seeing cranes load containers on ships up close, going by the prison on Terminal Island, seeing sites that were used for different movies scenes like an abandoned shipyard, getting a view of the new LA Waterfront shopping/dining area, seeing the tugboats, Coast Guard boats, pilot boat, and firefighting boats. Nice narrated tour around the long beach harbor. Learned some neat tidbits about the oil tankers and the use of the islands around the harbor along with how they got their names. Went on the 12:30 whale watching trip and we had a fantastic day. A dolphin stampede of over a thousand dolphins and three humpbacks whales. I was so excited to take my daughter on this harbor cruise for her birthday. She is in a wheelchair. I read on their website and even called to verify that this cruise was wheelchair accessible. That was so fantastic. So we got there on Saturday afternoon, sunny, perfect temperature, light breeze. We were able to easily navigate the ramp up and onto the lower deck of the vessel. Great! Accessible! That's where the accessibility ended. ALL the other passengers went directly to the stairs and up to the upper open-air observation deck. I asked one of the crew how to get to the upper deck, and they responded, "You can't get up there unless you can walk!" Yes, that is a direct quote. So I followed up by asking if there was any other way up to the upper deck where we could fully enjoy the harbor cruise. The answer was no. So we were left with only one option, to sit in the lower, fully enclosed deck and look through huge, blurry windows. You literally could not take a decent photograph through the windows (see attached photos), and the view with the naked eye was not pleasant. The windows were mostly clean, but covered with some kind of protective film. Once the boat started moving, the sound of the engine was almost deafening. The captain gave a great verbal tour over the speaker system. We couldn't understand any of it over the sound of the engine, which I measured at a constant 100-110 decibels. Since it was sunny, the sun shone in through the windows, raising the temperature of the lower cabin to an uncomfortable level, I estimate 85º. So everything we saw on the entire trip was blurry, the sound was unbearable, the temperature was uncomfortably warm, the narration was unintelligible, and we had no ability to rectify our situation. This vessel is DEFINITELY NOT ACCESSIBLE! I briefly left my daughter down below to go and check out the upper deck. It was amazing, cool, breezy, and much quieter; you could easily understand the tour narration and what a view! I felt really cheated, misled, and embarrassed. This was part of my birthday gift to my daughter. I spent the rest of my daughter's birthday apologizing for the cruise. She said she really enjoyed it. I know she was just saying that so I wouldn't feel bad. She explained she is used to places saying they're accessible, but only making a token effort to accommodate those with disabilities. Unfortunately, she's gotten used to this treatment. Here are my final thoughts. Firstly, I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND this cruise for anyone with a disability, especially if you're in a wheelchair. Secondly, I implore Harbor Breeze Cruises to amend their website to be very specific and accurate about the "accessibility" features offered and an honest description of the experience that someone in a wheelchair can reasonably expect. Thirdly, I highly suggest Harbor Breeze Cruises retrain their employees to be more sensitive to people with disabilities. Fourthly, I will request a full refund for our cruise so that I can take my daughter on a harbor cruise with a different company that offers better accommodations for the disabled. Well worth it! Ticketing was easy; time on the ticket is actually the time they start boarding, not the time they shove off. If you want to sit at the front, I suggest lining up at least a half hour earlier. But if you get seasick like me, don't stress, take a Dramamine and stay in the back. As far as getting seasick, I didn't have a problem - I even started to get hungry and bought some snacks. Dress in layers, wear a hat & sunscreen, and bring some water. In addition to snacks they also sell drinks (including alcohol) on board. And thank the lord they have clean restrooms! The knowledgeable tour guide from the nearby aquarium was very fun & informative. They also had aquarium volunteers floating around to answer questions and show samples of whale teeth & baleen. It's mid January at the writing of this review, so whale migration is underway and we saw a grey whale & a humpback on our 12pm tour--and loads of dolphin pods, who often swim alongside the boat. We'll try a 2pm tour and compare if there's more dolphin/whale activity. But we were able to get amazing pictures this trip. The crew knew all the signs for finding sea life and we were fortunate enough to see two very active humpback whales, a gray whale, and lots of dolphins. We followed the humpback whales for a while and saw lots of tail and even a breach. Boat was very clean and everyone on board was having a lovely time. This rating is based on my experience and may vary from person to person and depending on the season. Whale watching is a beautiful short excursion that allows you to see the animals uncaged and roaming freely in the ocean. Before purchasing the tickets at the booth, check out the calendar with animal counts and sightings of the month. My "whale watching experience" differed when I chose to come on the UNLUCKIEST DAY of the week. I realized this experience was a CRAP SHOOT where we saw ZERO WHALES but several dolphins and sea lions, which are common species in the Pacific Ocean. Also, the choppy ocean experience didn't help, as my stomach felt unsettling from motion sickness. When experiencing such sickness, I realized it's better to sit outside on top of the boat than to rest indoors by the table. For a ride that lasted 2.5 to 3 hours and cost $110 for two, I didn't get to immerse myself in the "whale experience." I hoped for a better outcome, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. read more

I love harbor breeze cruises and I wish that I can give them five stars but I had a bad experience yesterday. Let me preface this by saying that I've gone on their harbor Cruise countless times. I have even booked them for a private charter. Staff is usually friendly and very cool. Yesterday for the first time I got to go on their 4th of July cruise (The July 3rd boom on the bay cruise) and the customer service was pretty bad. The first thing is that I saw a promo code online for $15 off. When I tried to book my ticket it would not allow me To use the promo code. I walked over to the ticket booth and explained my dilemma. There were two young ladies in the ticket booth and the one that was assisting me sounded like she didn't know too much. She wasn't even aware that a promo code existed. I guess she was looking it up and conversing with the other co-worker and not directly to me. I heard the other young lady tell her something about needing to book 3 days in advance. The young lady helping me never said that to me. Also for the record, the promo code did not say that it needed to be booked in advance. The girl helping me .ended up saying I can just offer you the online price of $75. I didn't have my debit card with me. So I told her No Thank you. ..I will just book it online. So I literally booked it online while I waited in line to board the ship. I arrived to be in line early so that I was able to pick a good seat. After standing in line for about 15 minutes, I hear an announcement on the loudspeaker that if you booked online you need to get a printed ticket. Even when I got a text confirmation. It didn't let me know that I would need a physical ticket. At that point. I had to get out of line to return to the ticket booth for a printed ticket. I go back to the girl who assisted me the first time after having to wait in line again. And I say to her, I I told you I was purchasing the ticket online and you didn't let me know that I would have to get a physical ticket" I told her that I was attending the event alone and now had lost my spot in line. She just stared at me. She didn't apologize. She didn't say anything. When I returned back to my spot in line, there were about 20 people who had arrived in the line ahead of me now.. That was very disappointing. I had never experienced anything like that. Other than the poor customer service at the ticket window. It was a really amazing Cruise. The music was great. The onboard staff was great. read more
