Harbor was recommended to me by my roommate, so my girlfriend and I stopped in on a hot day. It was good, but not out of this world. We both opted for the key lime pie flavor which could have used a little more tang, it tasted more like vanilla with a hint of lime. It could also use more seating in or around the area, we ended up having to stand at the end of the block to eat. The portion sizes too, were overwhelmingly large. While I'm a sucker for ice cream, they accidentally scooped us one size higher than we paid for which normally I wouldn't complain about, but it was WAY too much food. After exploring the NH/MA coastline on a hot summer day, my family and I decided to stop by Newburyport for some ice cream. We researched on Google and found that Harbor Creamery is among the top rated ice cream shops in the downtown area. We decided to stop by and get some ice cream to cool off. My girlfriend and I wanted to try their unique Key Lime Pie flavor, I've never had key lime ice cream before. We ordered smalls and the worker accidentally misheard us and scooped a medium sized portion for us- the ice creams were too huge so we asked them to rescoop it, this wasn't a problem! The flavor itself was decent, personally I would've preferred it to be more tart/limey, it was more like a plain vanilla ice cream with a hint of lime. There unfortunately isn't anywhere to sit in the cafe so we sat outside, but it was too hot to sit outside in the summer. Such a decadent treat! The ice cream here is handmade and they have plenty of rich flavors. I opted for the campfire- sweet cream with chocolate chips, crushed graham crackers and marshmallow. It was absolutely heavenly. My arteries clogged immediately, but it was 100% worth ever spoonful. They have some really great seasonal flavors too, like pumpkin Oreo. Just happened to stroll by right before they closed so I got lucky! The staff member was helpful and friendly! I must mention the shop was especially immaculate wow - definitely stood out. They had a decent amount of flavors of ice cream to choose from - I opted for some cultural to New England (from what I gathered lol) - the spiced "whoopie pie". The server told me it was a spiced ice cream with pumpkin whoopie pie bits mixed in...Now, I've never had a whoopie pie and really had no idea what to expect - but this was probably one of the best ice creams I've ever had! The ice cream itself was decadently creamy with just the right amount of spice flavor - and the whoopie pie bits were soft and mellow...it was awesome! I cannot say enough good things about Harbor Creamery and the owner, Merri-Lee. I worked here for about 4.5 years before and after college. I have worked in 5 other restaurants and none of them even come close to how pristine Harbor Creamery is. From first glance you can tell how clean it is but, as a longtime employee I know how clean the entire place REALLY is! The ice cream production process is organized to avoid cross contamination and all tools are thoroughly sanitized before, during and after the process. The aesthetic in the shop is also gorgeous... white trim, wooden floors, and granite countertops, colorful accessories. The attention to detail is not overlooked. Oh! and the ice cream is incredible. I have family and friends begging me STILL to pick up some ice cream for them. As I used to say to customers.... "we don't make anything bad so and flavor will be a good choice!" Most importantly, you want to feel good about where you shop, especially in a small town. I can confidently tell you that Merri-Lee is an honorable business owner, boss, and person. Heavy on the chocolate ones but chocolate is good always so I understand that. Some had kind of iffy names that made it hard to know what the ice cream really was like Sea Salt. I assume caramel but why not have that in the name or Rip Tide which looked to be a mixture of items - would be smart to have descriptions with the names. At any rate, prices were good so we got 2 scoops. Went with the chocolate. Chocolate milk and cookies (loved it) and chocolate peanut butter (also tasty). We really liked the ice cream. They also have pints for sale and a lot of cool art on the walls for sale. I especially liked the horse canvasses, although a bit pricey. Not much of a wait despite a line. While in a new area i was looking for a place that sold both ice cream and frozen yogurt. I came across Harbor Creamery on Yelp. First..... the price can't be beat!!!!! Even the kid size was HUGE!!!! Sad though that there wasn't any frozen yogurt or other options. The ice cream is hard. I'm just more used to creamy ice cream. This did not taste like the creamery I have at home where the ice cream is "hard" ice cream but softer texture. They did have other chocolate options that were just ok.
